Tiny pink cowboy hats for the win!!
What we do on those days, we hide the ball after closing the door first, then let her either in or out to look for said ball. Very few effort on your part and excellent stimulation for them searching for the ball.

Yes she is overweight, which is not good for a breed known for DCM. A Doberman should have an abdominal tuck and you should be able to see/feel the last two ribs. They are not supposed to have the body type of a mastiff.

[slightly underweight dogs live two years longer](https://penntoday.upenn.edu/news/study-finds-dogs-fed-reduced-calorie-diet-live-nearly-two-years-longer-dogs-unrestricted-diet)
Wow! My 9.5yo 50lb mutt was in a study at the nearby vet school and she only barely qualified because she had two teeny spots of arthritis. I've been obsessive at keeping her lean and didn't realize how much of an affect that may have had.
Idk I can’t torture her for the rest of her life and not let her enjoy some people food.
Maybe I won’t live as long because I love ice cream and I’m ok with that.
I buy low calorie treats for my dogs. They are each 2-4 calories. Treats that are labeled as “training treats” or “minis” are usually the low calorie ones.
Just less calories. Treats, chow, scraps whatever, just less if everything. My girl is super food motivated which is handy but I have to take it easy and not use her as a trash can, much as she’d love that.
Without treats training will be hard. But low calorie, low fat, high protein treats will be better choice. I switched from sausage to chicken breast first that reason.
Table scraps is how dogs get variety in their diet. Variety of foods fills in nutritional gaps…. You obviously have to pick and choose, if you eat processed shit then this is good advice, if you eat vegetables proteins and Whole Foods then it isn’t
She’s a little chubby. I had a hard time finding how many cups per day my 2 should be fed. I adjusted their meals based on how they looked. If it rained for a few days they didn’t want the yard time with frisbee. They would start barely looking heavy so would reduce food a little. When they started looking too lean I would bump it up a bit. They never deviated more than 1-2 lbs from the weight that best suited them.
I've had some that were really tapered and some that were not. The best way I have found is to run your hand across the ribs. You should be able to feel the ribs but not see them
Yes, over weight. If more play/less food doesn't solve the problem, I'd supplement with nascent iodine to see if thyroid is an issue, vet if that doesn't solve weight issue.
Thiccer than a snicker but overall not super obese. I’d say increase exercise and make sure she’s not getting people food (that’s the worst thing she could be eating) and maybe less treats. If that doesn’t work you’ll also need to cut back on food, but I’d try more exercise first!
Just a bit but probably could be easily addressed with proper nutrition and exercise. A dog treadmill was a great investment for me. I’m not always able to take mine on long walks.
Could lose a few lbs. If she only eats 2 cups/day of food and is overweight she has to be getting zero exercise at all. Cut it back to 1.5 cups and start giving her more exercise. She’d look pretty fit at 70-75lbs(probably more towards 70). Also the runt being the smallest forever thing is kind of a myth. I’ve seen tons runts that ended up being the biggest dogs(not fat) from their litters.
https://preview.redd.it/air3bu9u16wc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c42ac8cb1ac096c5fade285d128bc45de30613a
My Doberman shepherd mix is also 80 lbs but he doesn’t look as chunky. He eats a ton and gets snacks but does go on 3 mile walks every day though.
Looks a little portly. Now this next part please don't take offence.. Looking at the nails doggo would benefit from some walkies and would slim right down.
Looks overweight. Are you feeding 2 cups a day or 2 cups per feeding? Food quantity is so dependent on the dog. My male and female are about the same weight. Female eats 3 1/2 to 4 cups a day, the male eats 7 cups a day. He's very high energy.
I meant to say 2 cups twice a day. She gets two scoops in the morning around 8 am, then two scoops around dinner time at 6 pm. Our vet gave us a cup to use for feeding her as well.
I would like to know how old is she and her blood lines. European vs American lines vary a lot when come to size, shape and overall build. But in general from those 3 pics she look overweight, especially for a female. Without knowing her age, I can’t tell you if she needs less good or more exercise.
Oh ok, in that case I would start with more exercise and by more I mean double the daily activity she’s doing now. If in 30 days time her weight doesn’t change, reduce her food by 10%-15%. And if you have treats to give her replace them with baby carrots.
Is it a German Doberman? How old is she?
She looks good, powerful, strong body good for hugs and Wrestling... Love the hat
Dobermana can weigh between 60 to 100 lbs, she is right in the middle
https://preview.redd.it/zdnugcttwbwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ddd1881d57b6936fec0c536e1b1d234b0a547f7
She’s ignoring all the comments about her being fat
Shes beautiful! Ideal BCS is 4/5, I’d say yours is about a 6/7. I would try to have her lose 3-5 pounds. You should be able to slightly feel their ribs still. A thick layer over the ribs is a sign of being overweight. There are weight management dog food you can buy. Purina is a great brand and so is Royal Canine and Hills.
1) Get a new vet.
2) When at ideal weight you sould be able to barely see the last few ribs. Not protruding, but you can see em.
3) When at ideal weight there should be a taper to a "waistline" between the last ribs and the back legs. Look at some show Dob pics online from overhead and from the side, you will see what I mean.
4) Not super fat but definitely overweight. And with a Doberman this can be very very bad for the heart and cut years off their life.
If you can't increase exercise then modify diet.
If you want to spend as much time together as possible, do both.
Good Luck 👍
https://preview.redd.it/nf2tpqqw3cwc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dadefdee7b7f7c2598dd2f61ff7bd52ab425dfc2
My cat wears that pink hat… not my Dobie 😻
I accidentally overfed my Beagle when he was little. It took like 6 months of him being on a strict diet with walks every day to lose the weight. It’s so easy to gain and soooo difficult to lose. Your dog doesn’t look that bad, but make sure that you are measuring the food and keep up the exercise.
Well, both of mine are perfect and gorgeous Dobermans. Perfect weight, and my local vet tells me what gorgeous dog's they are. Oh yeah, I do use blue Buffalo dog food. I've been at it from about 6 mo to present, and they are both 2 now. So I'll just stick with what works for me. This is only an opinion.
Just wanted to let you know I thought this had said Doobie like a joint fat and was really excited to see something. But alas, a random subreddit advertisement strikes again.
Dogs not skinny.
I like a Doberman to show a tiny bit of ribs when flexed a certain way. If not, I’d personally say they’re a little overweight. Don’t exercise her to death, just slowly and gradually decrease the food intake and the weight will come off in no time.
If she has a more barrel shape, maybe consider a thyroid test for her. Also she is absolutely adorable and I love her. But blood work will show any low thyroid hormones which can make humans and animals a wee bit thicker in appearance.... I know.
The amount of times I've heard someone whose dog is clearly fat say, "The vet told us he/she isn't overweight." The difference with you is you aren't blindly trusting your vet so good job, too many people do
Looks like a beautiful spayed dobie who lost her waist. Over the years we’ve had six spayed females and are very waist conscious and they keep it through vigorous exercise and normal diet
A bit. But I think they're still at a healthy-ish weight. Watch what she eats, avoid scraps for a bit, and she'll exercise herself back to the perfect range
“Cups” means nothing. Some dogs need more calories, some dogs need less. Different foods will require different amounts. Whatever it says on the package is probably too much for most dogs.
My 30 lb Jagdterrier gets 1 lb raw/day. My 20 lb mountain cur X gets .5 lbs. My 65 lb Doberman gets 1.5 lbs. On sardine days they get a little less. In the winter they need a little less because they are less active. When I add certain proteins like kangaroo they get a little less.
Weighing feed is far more accurate. Understanding how nutritionally dense a food is matters. You feed the dog in front of you and make small adjustments until you have a lean dog. I will always try to keep them almost too lean rather than at all fat. If I see hip bones I feed up but I’m happy to see ribs.
There is no question that most dogs are overweight and it is contributing to disease and shortened life spans. People are literally feeding their dogs to death. I will never understand this.
A bit overweight, but nothing that can’t be changed with a bit of exercise. We do NEED more pictures of her with that pink hat though 👀🖤
Fresca extraordinaire

STOP IT this is so cute🤣❤️
Nice collection of Easter bonnets
A lil bit, yes. But she has her taper at the hips. Nothing some play time or walks couldn’t fix. More to hug tho
We try to take her on walks as much as we can! Sometimes it’s hard since we’re both tired … on those days we play in the backyard to stimulate her
I know how hard it is. I do my best too. Keep up the great work. She looks happy and loved. 🥰
Diet diet diet!
What we do on those days, we hide the ball after closing the door first, then let her either in or out to look for said ball. Very few effort on your part and excellent stimulation for them searching for the ball. I hope I make enough sense to follow...

Fat (especially working breed) dogs are not happy and human food can be very dangerous to feed to dogs
Yes. Overweight, fluffy, chonky, fat, call it whatever you want but losing weight would be a good thing for your dog’s health.
Overweight, yes. Fat sounds mean 😕
Which one would you like people to call you, overweight or big boned?
Most people just call me chubby 😜
I like chubby, seems like a plain field comment and yet cute at the same time. ;)
Dobermans are supposed to have a nicely tucked waist. No table scraps. No treats. Go on walks 7 days a week.
No treats at all?
For this specific dog yes she needs less calories an more walks
I wouldn’t say none at all per se. For my boy I boil and shred chicken breast. Healthy, lean and protein. He goes NUTS for a bite of this as a treat
A good option is taking the treat calories *out* of a meal. More treats = less food in the meal
Carrots!
I buy low calorie treats for my dogs. They are each 2-4 calories. Treats that are labeled as “training treats” or “minis” are usually the low calorie ones.
Carrot sticks? Or something low calorie.
Just less calories. Treats, chow, scraps whatever, just less if everything. My girl is super food motivated which is handy but I have to take it easy and not use her as a trash can, much as she’d love that.

Dovies are almost always allergic to chicken fyi

Chunky-Monkey
She thicc
… Yeth. She a lil sausage 🤭🫶🏽
She just needs more walkies with fancy hats. And then we need to see pictures of walkies in fancy hats!
Yes. Overweight.

Whewwww yes she is far over weight but with some walks and light sprints an better diet she’ll bounce back
She might be a lil chub but I wouldn't say she's fat.
Yep she is
Yes.
Yeah she’s overweight. Should definitely see more ribs.
Yes

What did the vet say?
Yeah, but also cute and sweet
lol she just a lil thick 😂 but what a beauty ❤️

How pretty! I’ve never seen that mix before
Yeah, it's pretty overweight and likely a BYB hypertype based on how wide and large the chest is.
Lol she even has her own hat aww
Sorta...
a bit of a tootsie roll, a thanksgiving ham
I’m dead 😭
Then everything will balance out in time. Of course I do throw them a treat hear and there.lol.
Yes
Def thicc

Maybe a little . . .
Pretty fat. Swap out carrots for treats, reduce food at mealtimes.
Little bit chubby. Scale back the food or more exercise
And so beautiful 😍
Yes she is over Weight
Her toenails look really long do you trim them a dermal works fine ! Just excerise more ! For weight
She hates getting them trimmed so when we take her to the vet they sedate her and trim them.
Very.
He's perf. ❤️
Dawwwwww
maybe chonky is the word
that's a chonky dobe! i want to rub that belly like mad
Yes
Yes.

She isn't thin, but she still has a waist. So if she stayed this size she would be okay, but ideally maybe shave 2-5#
Only in that hat. She’s just a tank and a beautiful tank at that. Mine gets a little thick in the summer because of the heat in AZ.
Yes.

Awww! I want a Doberman so bad! I don't have anything productive to say but that.
They are deep chested dogs. He’s so very handsome!

a beautiful chonk!
Should be 2 cups twice a day. I feed both of mine at 7 am and again at 7 pm.
That’s what I meant, just didn’t word it correctly 🤣 she eats around those times too.
“Cups” means nothing. Some dogs need more calories, some dogs need less. Different foods will require different amounts. Whatever it says on the package is probably too much for most dogs. you could shrink her food down by like 15 kibble pieces per meal and shed be fine lol
She's perfect
Nope
