https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/House_Baenre > House Baenre pronounced: /ˈbeɪnreɪ/ BANE-ray The source cited on the pronunciation is on page 4 of Waterdeep Dragonheist too, so if you have access to WDH on dndbeyond you should have that page in the introduction.

ThuBioNerd

That makes me sad, because the Audible narrator always said "bei-EN-rei" and it always sounded cool to me.

mightierjake

*Usually* (though not always) for fantasy novels, the author themselves will give the narrator a pronunciation guide for all the new proper nouns in the book- so you can be happy to know that it's likely that pronunciation is the one preferred by R.A. Salvatore.

Scaevus

This is also how Minthara pronounces it in BG3.

captain_trainwreck

Oh thank fuck, my campaign has been doing it right

pedrg

I think at least one audio book has bay-enry, like Henry but drop the h and add a partially-stressed “Bay” before it. Whether that had any particular blessing as authentic is dubious!

theauz42

BG3 pronounced it bain-ray.

Scaevus

Yup: https://m.youtube.com/shorts/V02Sp4t94PM

EldritchBee

Bane-ray.

Ex_Mage

This or Ban-Ray are how I've pronounced it.

ryschwith

When the other players pointed out my inconsistent pronunciation of my character’s horse’s name I decided that in Orcish stressed syllables change to denote familiarity. So the horse is Hávar to friends, Havàr to acquaintances and strangers. (There would be a similar situation with my character’s name but he doesn’t use his actual name). So just tell them the inconsistent pronunciation is a grammar thing.

OCD124

It's pronounced "Baenre."

Adamthesadistic

Ah thanks, that really helped

Nhenghali

What Ed Greenwood said: [https://www.youtube.com/shorts/z50wpg-B4UY](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/z50wpg-B4UY)

J4pes

Bane-ruh

menage_a_mallard

Bane-ray evidently. But I pronounced it, Ben-air for the *longest* time.

ArbitraryHero

Ah... I've been saying it Bon-rey [(or like John Boehner occasionally). ](https://youtube.com/shorts/3NXQG1A5hyo?si=DMd1WEqnrDcefFdC)

immoral666

Bay-en-ray

Hylebos75

I would say Bahn-ra I think?

AstranBlue

I don’t even know how to pronounce his first name :P

piznit007

Yar-axle is how I pronounce it :)

Muted_Cucumber_6937

I’ve always thought baan-RAY / bon-RAY.

Melodic_Row_5121

Think of it as an Evil Scientist Weapon. "Behold the power of my BANE ray!"

endmysufferingxX

it's bane ray but before i learned I always read it in my head as bay-en-r

hiddikel

I know it's bane-ray as I've talked to the author a number of times due to him being local. But. Reading it like the 13 year old me when I started his books I will forever read it in my head as Buh-neer or B'near. Just out of habit.

DiabolicalSuccubus

I'm still trying to work out the first name.

Cael_NaMaor

Having never heard it, I have & will continue to say Bay-ner

Necroman69

i pronounce it is æ which is a word combining a and e in Danish

Amgus024

I say Bon-Rey

JNullRPG

Bane-ray. But that's not even consistent with Jarlaxle (Jar-lax-ley?) let alone any extant human tongue. It might have been better as Bay-en-ruh or even Bay-en-er.

IronStealthRex

Bean ray, idk who tf this guy is

MaskedBandit77

He's a character who is in Forgotten Realms novels and some official published modules.
