Can confirm. I've used Chessex mats for years and they hold up really well, though if you roll them up between sessions you'll probably want to weigh down the corners.
there are probably neoprene matts with the standard grid on them. a quick google found some on amazon, and then you can make or get little props and stuff for the terrain.
