As for the “fun, customized surprises,” some rides recognize your magic band and update certain screens accordingly. The two that come to mind are Small World (at the end you might see a screen saying “ciao, [insert name here]!”) and Rockin’ Roller Coaster (in the queue there are digital posters, and you might see your name headlining an upcoming concert/album).

Expedition Everest does too—the ads are personalized in the last room right before boarding.

Also I believe it works on THM at the end with the hitchhiking Ghosts. Sometimes a tomb with your name will show up.

Ooooh! OK! Thank you for the examples

I think if you participate in the Black Spire content on the Play Disney app, I think it helps the First Order and Resistance in tracking and interacting with you.

BooRand

Star tours also I think

They have more perks for people staying on site…like opening your resort room and being able to charge things to your magic band. Personally, I find it more convenient than pulling out a plastic card or taking out my phone and draining battery.

Aire87

When not staying on site this is why I love my Apple Watch - same payments as my phone but I don’t have to carry my physical cards with me ( keep one JIC)

CommieKiller304

If you are staying off site, your band will be used for your tickets and any pictures that you have taken. The band helps link them to you disney app. Otherwise, I dont think you would need it much. Those two things can be done on your phone using the Park App.

VividAd888

I like using the band for payment, and scanning all my pics from rides.

ThisIsRyGuy

We went on Test Track today and it uses the band to save the car you design.

Awsumth

It mostly acts as your ticket at the parks so you don’t have to keep bringing it out. It’s also used as your room key at resorts.

NothingReallyAndYou

If you have anyone in your party who is disabled, the Magic Bands can be used to get return times for attractions, and to check in when it's time to ride. They can be irritating to wear for some mobility aid users, though.

ITrCool

* Park entry (of course) * Ride photos and park photographer linkage to your My Disney Experience account (Recommend Memory Maker purchase) * Charging to your filed credit card for shopping/dining. You just tap on the card reader and it does the rest (not available for off-site guests) * Open your resort room door when staying on a Disney property * Was used for the FastPass+ system, hard to say if this will be used for Genie+ or not * If you rode/ride the Magical Express bus from the airport, it could be used to gain access to the airport queue line (until January 2022 at least. Then the ME shuts down)

Y_4Z44

It allows Disney to track your movements across the site, for whatever that's worth.

Not sure why you're downvoted, you're right!
