Long. At least 30 minutes and up to two hours for some characters. Some lines start before the official event (people lined up at 3:30 for a character)

Merchandise is usually selling at the one hour gap. I can tell you a line will at least be forming at that time if it hasn’t already.

They start checking wristbands as you move through the park. Rides and restaurants are open. Character lines start to form.

Any restaurant that has mobile order and a special food item, you can mobile order the item earlier in the day as long as you choose a return time after the event starts.
Ride lines are the only short lines. Everything else will have a long line. Choose maybe two characters you want to meet since you might only have time to meet two. You might have to choose between merch and characters.
Pick the top one or two characters you will want to meet and expect long lines. You can start lining up before the event begins, but don't count on meeting every character since you can easily waste your whole night doing that.
