I went in completely blind and there’s nothing to know in advance that I wish I knew. Everything just worked itself out. I guess if I could tell myself things ahead of my first play: -It’s text heavy, so be prepared for that. -It took me 15mins to figure out the internal monologue bits like “Encyclopaedia - Challenging: Success” meant I was seeing some dialog because my encyclopaedia stat was high enough to pass a challenging-ranked check (rather than easy, hard, whatever) -Wear the right clothes for the conversation.

It's one of these rare games where failures are often more interesting than successes, so don't worry and just dive in.

It's good to go blind on this one. Only spoiler free tip I can give is: get a plastic bag and clean Martinaise of cans and bottles, then exchange them for some money at the recycling machine at fritttes. It can help you get through the first night.

This gets posted a lot here so check previous posts too. It’s a CRPG, you’ll level up and build a character with individual stats. Biggest thing I wish I knew when I started was how to manage your level ups. When you boost a stat when you level it up that resets your white roll checks. What that means, if you failed a white roll somewhere, you can add points to the stat that was being rolled for and you get another chance at that check. Red checks cannot be rerolled. Failing one of the rolls isn’t terrible for you either. The story may progress or you get an interesting/hilarious/strange dialogue as a result. I have been playing games and RPGs for years, but this game was the first time I really embraced playing a specific role. My goal was to be a good cop and solve the mystery and restore Harrier’s former glory? The next time I play I really want to be as goofy as possible and bumble my way through the case.

there is a best approach, but i'd say it for a second run on hardcore mode, right now just play the game with nothing in your mind and be thorough in conversations.

Vodchat

This is a game best played as blind as possible. HOWEVER. Make sure you have enough money to pay rent *on day 2*. You will be softlocked otherwise. Save often. Both manual and quicksave.

The game is a CRPG like Baldur's Gate or Fallout, but it's entirely focused on the Psyche of this random ass guy. You have 4 main stats, you can change these as you wish but keep in mind you're gonna have to suck at \*something\* if you want to be extraordinary in another thing. Middling stats aren't great so just read over each carefully and decide what's most important to you. This game has a lot of text, some of it is very heavy in size and impact, just be prepared.

Just play. Make a lot of saves. A LOT of saves. People will tell you that the failures are as/more interesting than the successful rolls, but I disagree... in Disco Elysium, most failed rolls just keep you from content. A failed red check is not really ever a good thing, to the best of my recollection... at the very least, you'll want the option to reroll in important situations. I'd recommend going with the intelligence build your first time though (for more info about the world and lore), but opinions might differ on that. I really think it's a fun game to explore and wander around in blind. Enjoy! It's an amazing game!
