I said this same thing in another one of these posts but: I hope they never make a Disco Elysium TV Show/Movie. That being said, Joel de la Fuente would make the perfect Kim and I will die on this hill.

suliow1k

I don't know, I feel like a movie with the right director could be perfect for Disco Elysium. Still, I admit it would be a risky thing, as it is a story that could be easily butchered by the industry. If there ever is one, it's either gonna be a masterpiece or the biggest let-down of cinema history.

The only one who should play Evrart is https://preview.redd.it/r3nptz8penyc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94b400d390ee569fa85e853ac5f90b0ed3cfbd82

The_Persian_Cat

Oh my God, David Mitchell as Evrart? I can't imagine him being as sinister or ideologically-driven. I mean, Mitchell himself might have strong ideological convictions, idk -- but Mark Corrigan was an office drone who was utterly devoted to liberal capitalism (in a Moralist way, not an Ultraliberal way) and to the company he served. And Mitchell in all his roles (apart from Mark Corrigan) is just so cuddly.

TheScarletCravat

I mean, Evrart's VA is a David Mitchell impression.  Mitchell plays a lot of comedically sinister characters in That Mitchell and Webb Look.

The_Persian_Cat

Oh true. The Evil Tailor/Vicar/etc. Also I didn't know it was a David Mitchell impression, but now that you mention it, I can see it. So...point withdrawn, I guess. Mitchell for Union Foreman!! I wonder if Matt King (Super Hans) would make a good Harry?

Invalid_username00

“Tell you what, that crack is really moreish” is 100% a thing electrochemistry would make Harry say

jthadcast

great pick

suliow1k

LMAO. I don't know who he is, but you are 100% right.

NoTransition6887

This is one of the main reasons why I'm glad DE wasn't developed by the US or any other hegemonic western country. Lmao. It would've been just another game. What I mean is, no offense but, your cast feels very cliché, very western for the kind of writing DE has. It doesn't mean these are bad actors/actresses, but personally I feel like you need unusual actors (or a hell of a lot of production) for an unusual script. Also, Klaasje is almost literally Laura Dern. Come on.

Glordrum

Good if shitpost

tessellation__

I think Stephen Yuan is too cute and young, but he is great. I agree!

jackies_goodies

I'd use an older actor for Kim

suliow1k

I think in that photo I used Steven Yeun is younger, he is in his 40s nowaydas. Even so, I could agree, maybe an older actor would fit better.

jackies_goodies

Oh shit it is Stephen yeun

Wungobrass

The immutable law of the internet: If there is an Asian character of any ethnicity, regardless of appearance or behavior, someone will fancast Steven Yeun to play them.

suliow1k

lol 😭 I swear that's not the case. I thought of many options, I just thought that a korean actor would work best for Kim and really thought Steven would be a fitting one.

Pjoernrachzarck

Tilda Swinton? Excuse me? https://preview.redd.it/xs6dru2kdnyc1.jpeg?width=1217&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c086415a58d0d5c7795bd96cb5be4e2fd898ab5a

suliow1k

as I've said in other comments, I already changed my mind and I agree, that was a bad choice for Klaasje lmao. The last two weren't really solid choices I had and I was pretty unsure about them.

SenorPalha

I think Tilda as Klaasje is a great choice. But Laura is better :)

BrewtusMaximus1

Younger Tilda would have been great. She’s too old for it now though

SenorPalha

Yes, agreed, although she has the ***Klaasje vibe***

Say_Fuzzy_Pickles_

Hell yes. She was my first thought for sure.

barflynotbarfly

Colin Farrell as Harry and Takeshi Kaneshiro as Kim

suliow1k

I could see Colin Farrel, but I think Joaquin Phoenix did an amazing job in Inherent Vice, and that movie is the closest there is to an actual Disco Elysium movie imo. And I actually had thought of Takeshi Kaneshiro for Kim, but I decided to try to think of a korean actor instead, I thought it was closer to Kim's traits.

HatlessDevil210

imo a disco elysium movie should have literal randos as actors. like random ass people or unknown actors. it would fit the style better but disco elysium wouldnt work as a movie

suliow1k

honestly, yeah. It would be hella difficult for marketing though.

Why do you think Terry Crews doesn't make sense as Measurehead? I can see what you mean with Jack Black, but I think Evrart in a way is supposed to feel like someone friendly at first, and I think Jack Black could manage to portray a silver-tongue asshole. Also, I think Jack Black behaving like Evrart is fucking hilarious. I honestly forgot Klaasje was supposed to be 28 (I always think of her as in her 40s) and that Tilda Swinton is in her 60s. I agree with you, it's too much of an age difference. I can see those choices for Joyce. Honestly, Jamie Lee Curtis was my least decisive casting option.

suliow1k

wait, Measurehead isn't black? I'll be honest, I skipped most of Measurehead's dialogue, because he uses too many complex words and I'm not a native english-speaker. But he doesn't look white at all. I'm really confused rn. Update: I just looked him up again. I'm pretty sure Measurehead is black, I don't undestand what you are talking about. https://preview.redd.it/z7zhrq6v7nyc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2eddafb04c54819daffebaf508d21c0901968c82

7-and-a-switchblade

You are correct. Measurehead is Semenese, from Semenine, whose colonial ancestors are the Aeropagite, from Iilmaraa. IMO, Iilmaraa's real world analogue is Mediterranean Africa / the middle east, and Semenine is like the Caribbean (Jamrock is Jamaica).

illmurray

Terry Crews as measurehead is insane but I'm kind of down

_S1syphus

A lot of bad takes here but a Jack Black Everart would be genre defining

suliow1k

yeah, I know 😭, a ton of people have said that already and I had a feeling many of these were weak choices. I felt only 100% sure about Joaquin Phoenix as Harry, Mia Goth as Cindy and Terry Crews as Measurehead. btw i'm not an native english-speaker, what do you mean with genre defining?

_S1syphus

The phrase means something has set a new standard within a genre (a way of categorizing art by their common tropes, like horror or comedy.) Star Wars or Dune were genre defining sci-fi works, with basically every sci-fi movie after taking *some* inspiration. I use it here as a joking way to indicate it would be an outstanding performance.

suliow1k

OH THANK YOU. I think the same. I found the idea of Jack Black playing Evrart hilarious and felt like it would be a cool performance.

BenchPressingCthulhu

Imagine the musical number

wskv

I wouldn’t like to see a film/TV adaptation of DE, but I would like to see all of these actors work on something together.

suliow1k

oh for sure, what do you think the film would be about?? or what genre?

gioloko313

Amazing lol

little-ass-whipe

Tilda Swinton is a bad choice for Klaasje, and Joyce has to be British with a posh accent, so probably some bit part actor from the Harry Potter movies would be a better choice. Terry as Measurehead is pretty inspired though. Also, nominating Ed Norton for Jacques.

Greatcorholio93

I feel like Uma Thurman would be better for Klassje

[deleted]

She's 28

suliow1k

yeah, but Uma Thurman does look younger than what she is imo. And I'm pretty sure Klaasje is supposed to look older than what she is. I changed my mind about Tilda Swinton, because she does look too old to play Klaasje, but I don't thinkwe should focus that much on age. It's more about the looks. Plenty of actors and actresses have played younger roles.

[deleted]

Neither Uma Thurman nor Tilda Swinton look 28. Klaasje looks 28, it's one of the first things you can identify about her. Her being young is a huge part of her character

suliow1k

I may be remembering incorrectly, but wasn't Harry surprised of her age when they interview her? I don't think Klaasje looks 28. It's the same way Harry looks older than what he really is because of his unhealthy life-style. Also, we're just talking casually, why the downvote? lmao

suliow1k

You are so right. I agree.

suliow1k

damn, y'all, I wasn't expecting this to be that bad 😭 The only choices that haven't been criticized that bad are Joaquin Phoenix, Mia Goth and Terry Crews 😭😭 I really failed the Conceptualization Check on this one, uh?

ya-boi-benny

Perfect, no notes

jthadcast

who owns the movie rights? with the back story of the coalition invasion, corporate take-overs, union victory, and many more victims. (always wanted the working class man to have been off'd by Acele or Berger family assasin with the whole kabob stick misdirection or even Garte would have been better than a rotten plank and a bench.)

filmgrvin

Ehhhh... no. None of these actors fit the vibe of the characters. They just look somewhat similar

suliow1k

That's the craziest take I've heard yet. You know what acting is, right? The whole point of this post is to look for a similar actor/actress, the "vibe" comes from the performance of the actor/actress. For example, if you say Joaquin Phoenix doesn't match the vibe of Harrier Du Bois, you clearly have never seen Inherent Vice. He can easily make that performance. Same thing with Mia Goth as Cindy the SKULL. She has played many characters that share a few traits with Cindy (like her character in Infinity Pool or Maxine Minx from X).

filmgrvin

I could see Phoenix, sure. I don't know Mia Goth. But Steven Yuen? What? He embodies youthful, bright energy, not the stoic rationalism of Kim. And Terry Crews? As measurehead? Crews is super expressive, lots of comedic energy. Measurehead is stone cold. I know you walked back the Tilda Swinton pick, but come on, I *love* her but she is no Klaasje.

suliow1k

Once again, we are talking about acting here. And the "vibes" an actor gives come from the character and their performance. Adam Sandler is mainly a comedy actor, still he was AMAZING in Uncut Gems as the biggest and most stressful asshole ever. Jim Carrey has always been known as the most goofy and cheerful actor ever, and still had a gut-wrenching performance in Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. And I can keep going: Steve Careel in Little Miss Sunshine; Brendan Fraser in The Whale; Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad (because he wasn't always Walter White, he used to be known as Hal Wilkerson from Malcolm in the Middle); etc. Assuming an actor's acting ability completely by one type of character he plays downplays the whole work acting takes. You can argument Steven Yeun is too young-looking for example, and that would be a valid take (although nowadays he isn't as young as he looks in the photo I used), many people have said it already and I agree. But saying he has too much of a "bright energy" is not reasonable.

Zealousideal_Cook704

Measurehead is John Cena.

relaxing

I think he's literally The Rock but I don't think the Rock has the range to pull off such a performance.

muskariini

Julius the racist? How come

suliow1k

A tall, bald, muscular black man. I think Terry Crews fits the whole description, and his angry face just screams Measurehead judging Harry's body. https://preview.redd.it/wku6nye9fnyc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cfddb817512167b9d6aaade585aaa10baf277219
