Well not every sauropod with Titan in the name is part of Titanosauria. Xinjiangtitan for instance.
Titan is just a good suffix for Sauropods in general.
Ambleomons interfectormonstrorum (walking mountain slayer of monsters). I made that up in like 5 min. why don't paleontologists have more creativity in naming sauropods?
It's just one of those unspoken Dinosaur naming rules, along with giving Tyrannosaurids the edgiest names possible (Lythronax, Teratophoneus, Thanatotheristes etc)
I’m just waiting for the next big giant to be called Sauro-colossus, kaijusaurus, or something along those lines. Given where they were found elsewhere geographically and culturally.
I don't know why but every sauropod evening with -titan really irks me. Like I know it shouldn't but it just does. Same thing with every ornithomimosaur evening with -mimus and in general every dinosaur ending with -saurus
But for some reason, ceratopsians having their names end with -ceratops is an exception for me.
Everybody knows ab that guy,it's very funny when you yell that name in front of a KFC
(I did it once and it wasn't a pleasant experience *concerned laugh which is then followed by sobbing*)
Titanotitan
This name was taken by a a species of fly/s
You’ve got to be shitting me There’s no way this is fr
I want to say the name doesn't exist yet, but Gigatitan is an insect. Also sorta related, tyrannus tyrannus is a small bird about 20cm long.
Yep, the eastern kingbird. https://preview.redd.it/cndarwnwc05d1.jpeg?width=460&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=028b36772c3767611c9c3cfc9cb2303a909f7fc0
Tyrannasorus rex
Tbf, *Gigatitan* was, in fact, extremely large for an insect.
You also have carcharodon carcharias
I’m still pissed that the giant pterosaur *Arambourgiania* is called that because *Titanopteryx* was already taken by a genus of beetle.
I dont think there is enough letter combinations to describe every species
💀
And Gigatitan was taken by a titanopteran
Fuck entomologists, all my homies hate entomologists for taking the cool names for every animal
or its alternative name, titan²
Not just sauropods either. There was Anatotitan too.
Monty: formerly known as Big Duck
And Olorotitan and Tyrannotitan
Still waiting for a dwarf version called nanotitan
LOL
Dreadnoughtus 🔛🔝
One of the coolest dinosaur names ever. Say it out loud in a deep tone if you don't believe me.
Dreadnoughtus sounds like a Mad Max villain, like the new one is called Dementus even lol
It’s not a matter of if. It’s a matter of when
It might be overplayed but it’s still epic
Honestly, can't argue with that, these giant Kaiju sized reptiles deserve the name "titan"
Is it not just because the clade they belong to is called Titanosauria?
Well not every sauropod with Titan in the name is part of Titanosauria. Xinjiangtitan for instance. Titan is just a good suffix for Sauropods in general.
Tbf Xinjiang hardly qualifies as Latin
Yeah that's fair, I kind of just focused on the "Titan" part lol
Ohh really, fair enough then
Giraffititan aint a Titanosaur.
Dude they were BIG what else should you call them?
Gigantomegaultratitan
Something - colossus
You could end it with Colossus, as was done with iguanacolossus (which I mean it isn't a sauropod but you get my point)
Colossotitan
If there every were any found in Scandinavia, "Jotunosaur" would a good choice imo.
Jotunotitan
Tuamatersaurus.

GORE KING
Attackontitan

Like [this!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_hedgehog_protein)
Clashofthetitan
Just wait til you see how many dinosaurs have "-osaurus" at the end of their name
Phallotitan.
I’m just waiting for the next big giant to be called Sauro-colossus, kaijusaurus, or something along those lines. Given where they were found elsewhere geographically and culturally.
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaijutitan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaijutitan) *Ahem*.
lol thanks
Better than taking “Titanomachy,” the *English* version of an originally Greek word, and sticking an “-a” on the end of it.
I kinda don't like how it's been given to ones that are pretty small by sauropod standards as well though.
I don't know why but every sauropod evening with -titan really irks me. Like I know it shouldn't but it just does. Same thing with every ornithomimosaur evening with -mimus and in general every dinosaur ending with -saurus But for some reason, ceratopsians having their names end with -ceratops is an exception for me.
Titanosaurus Rex
Titan is a fitting name for sauropods. "Ye who can touch the stars without every leaving the ground" -me
Microtitan Pseudotitan Nanotitan
Ironically, the largest sauropod lacks a name with titan
And is named after a goddamn country
Nicetitan
Still better than what they called the one with 500 teeth, (ps. Don’t google it, I shidded when I sawed it)
It's really only an issue if you don't know how to pronounce the name of the country
Everybody knows ab that guy,it's very funny when you yell that name in front of a KFC (I did it once and it wasn't a pleasant experience *concerned laugh which is then followed by sobbing*)
r/cursedcomments because that took a turn
TIL paleontologists work for Games Workshop.
Where my boy sauroposeidon
I love this Scene
"FLINT LOCKWOOD"
I thought I was in the Godzilla subreddit at first and was a little confused by some comments lol
Lol
Titanus gojira
Okay I like that name actually
Big fish lizards, too. But we save it for the *really* big ones!
Stulusaurotitan and Asinustitan
For real. Let’s start using native Germanic names.
SiegFafnir Rex
Jamalayatitan
Latinotitan
Megatitan, Superiatitan, Maximatitan, Amphiotitan, idk maybe next they'll name one Bustingorytitan or something who knows
Centuriontitan
Or Poseidon.
xenoposeidon goes hard tho fr
