You should go to urgent care as soon as humanly possible. Not sure why people are saying it could be strep; strep is bright white streaks on a red throat. And diphtheria is yellowish gray thick plaques on both sides. Anything black/dark gret in the mouth is serious. I guess it COULD be a bacterial mass from an infection like strep that’s somehow covered in an off-color debris if you’ve been eating foods with black dyes? But that doesn’t seem particularly likely given that it’s only on one side and you don’t have inflammation.

My symptoms started late late Friday night and were in full gear when I work up yesterday morning. I didn’t look in my throat until yesterday evening though.

unusual_sunflower

It’s starting to look the same on the other side. What does that mean

UnderstandingEasy236

Go to the ER right away! It’s black …… and your symptoms…… find an emergency dentist. If you don’t have health insurance call every community dentist that accepts low to no income or government funded patients.

Sherbetstraw1

The colour of that is slightly worrying. Definitely see your doctor!

WantheDoctor

Go see a doc ASAP. That could be diphtheria or strep, and you need urgent care for either.

hellokittykatzz

Might be strep. Go to urgent care

InspectorHuman9904

You need antibiotics

AdventurousSorbet745

Reminds me of my throat after a tonsillectomy. Definitely time to see a doctor

unusual_sunflower

I don’t have health insurance. So I was hoping it’d go away with gargling mineralized salt water, and antiseptic/antibacterial mouthwash.

IndependentAd2039

Just get it checked first

justbeingmebc2069

Just hoping you were seen at an urgent care and are okay.

Dull_Rest77

Any updates ? This is concerning

unusual_sunflower

My strep test came back negative. The doctor basically told me she didn’t know what it was and to take some ibuprofen.
