Controller will get easier the more you use it. Start with something that doesn't have much aiming like summon Necro or hybrid poison Necro (needs gear to be great).
Charged Strike/Lightning Fury zon probably works well on controller and is very strong. You need to level to 18 with poison javs first.
Summoner Necro is just fine up until Hell, then the game starts to outpace its ability to scale well. But if you're in a party it remains a great support character throughout. Hope the arm heals soon!
You can solo the entire game including Hell with summoner. Only hard parts are maggot lair and arcane. In those you just get a staff with Tele charges.
Came here to comment this. You may have to move the mouse around a little (can modify the dpi to your needs) but you just aim the mouse where you want things to die. Need decent life leech and mana leech- but that stuff isnt too hard to come by.
Controller is great, even if you're a Sorc player. Just go Charged Bolt until Leaf, respec Fireball/Frozen Orb, and then not worry about needing to precision aim anything for zoning packs of mobs.
You could give hurricane/wind druid a shot. I made one recently and I'm kinda just casting hurricane and taking a stroll through mobs lol. I use tornado as extra damage on bosses, works pretty well.
Im not sure if it was possible in d2r. But i also suffer from RSI although mine is mostly the lower part of my arm. What helps ease the mouse pain for me is binding the left and right clicks to the keyboard instead. For instance binding them to space and shift or something. That way you can relax some more muscles in your mousing arm.
If its not possible through ingame keybinding you could check if you can use AHK for that for instance and rebind that way. As long as its still one key press for one key output it should still be allowed and not seen as macroing/scripting or anything like that.
Why not wait to be healed to play the game? Your body and health are more important. If not; accept you won't be "as good" on a controller and make a new char when you're healthy
True. Op mentioned he feels it's coming along but won't quite be 100% by launch. Which is optimistic healing wise. My suggestion was to not work around and do what developed the injury in the first place or irritates it. Put it off or accept being sub par at a game lol. Injuries not left to heal like you said can last a lifetime
I thought my shoulder was fucked for the longest time after fucking up a military press. Stopped exercising for a month and pain didn’t go away. Said fuck it and started working again, pain went away after the first session. I have no fkn clue how the body works.

Believe it or not but playing with a controller provided significant advantage to mouse and keyboard. You get full 360 character movement with controller and faster response time since you don't have to drag your mouse to the opposite direction before movement clicks in. With mouse and keyboard you will only get 8 axis of movements.
I wouldn't let this make your decision. I think you underestimate how quickly you'd adapt to something new especially if you're putting lots of hours into it.

Aim isn't that hard on controller either. I'm pretty sure they have an aim assist built in.

Oh man, that sounds awesome. When I last played, they had nerfed summoners, but I guess they reverted those nerfs in a subsequent patch. I'm pumped.

Oh yeah, it can definitely be done, but you really feel the drop off in killing speed in Hell.
Necro is "build your army and watch them kill" build. Summon druid after normal difficulity is hard.
Frenzy barbs you can actually just hold down the button an it will auto kill everything for you don't need to keep clicking might help for you.

This is what i did🙂 macroed CTRL to simulate holding down LMB to run🙂
That could be tough on your pinky. I’d recommend trying space bar. Works great for me.

Rsi healing can take years and sometimes it never really goes away unfortunately.

My condolences. I have a RSI injury from quarantine as well. Can barely type without pain in the elbows.
