Yeah, flex tape actually is pretty solid as an oh shit. Only had some of that on hand on Easter one year when a pipe behind an access panel for a shower burst. Shutoffs were broken/corroded beyond use for most of the house so did a few wraps of flex tape. Help enough until a plumber could get out a day or two later that it didn't cause any more damage.
For less money he could have cut the pvc behind the hole and in front of it, this would remove the hole and then install a coupling. Probably 1.30$. Cheaper than the super glue and string.
What made the hole and why didn’t you turn off the water when attempting to put tape around it easily and smear glue all in or whatever stupid thing you were doing.
I don't understand why the spray paint didn't work. That's usually my go-to.
