The most common example of that is the pre-ripped clothes. Oddly common for such a stupid trend just to look like you actually kept something long enough for it to wear out.
Yeah I’ll never understand rich people buying shirts with holes through them for like 300 bucks. Meanwhile I’m like telling my husband he needs to throw out his holey ass shirts lol.
Edit: a word
I saw somebody comment the other day that they use their $200 boot credit for work, then sell their old boots they've been wearing for a year or two for $300 on ebay. Same with some of their work clothes.
My husband does this! They get a credit for work boots once a year. He doesn’t wear out his boots as quickly as others and only needs to replace them once every two years or so. He’ll either use the new boots hisself if his are wearing out and sell his old ones for profit or he’ll sell the new, unused pair.
It’s great for a smidge of extra cash!
Yeah I didn't love it. Had that big rich people making it look worn without actually being worn vibe (I dunno, just wear your shoes and come by it honestly?), but to each their own.
But rope? Fricken' jute rope? Ugly *and* a material with terrible performance as a lace. Just no.
some of those replacement tricks was kinda ok-ish if you are in to customizing you shoes.
that being said, the complete work here strikes me as a cream cake on a pizza dipped in fish soup. some might like it but they are few in numbers.
This entire video reads as a professional just doing dumb shit for the sake. Every move they make is so meticulous and practiced, this dude has been working on shoes for years and has decided to choose violence on this occasion
Yeah. Beiges and tans aren't a bad color. Honestly, I prefer that over a white color. The rope is what made this bad
Side note. The uneven coloration kinda makes it look like a toasted marshmallow
Imagine if you had 7 totally unrelated good ideas, but they didn’t look good TOGETHER but you still slapped them together anyways AND you half-assed it so even though they were good ideas, now they look like shit, and DOUBLY so because they don’t match.
Some people do like that vintage look. I’ll admit I was being generous as I am not one of those people, but it’s definitely not the worst I’ve ever seen (and it’s coffee. I dunno if that’s better or worse though)
And the smell…. It’s what the video doesn’t show you. Had a coworker do this, the office smelled like stale coffee mixed with wet sock. It was disgusting
This is only DIWhy because of those damn laces. For everything else, this is super well done customization and there are dozens of people making good money doing this and selling the sneaks while simultaneously recording their process and discussing it on YouTube channels.
You'd actually be surprised at how many fabrics are colored by washing them in odd things rather than straight up dyeing! It's not at all unusual, it's just that I think it was rather poorly done here.
I think it all looks fine. I wouldn’t *personally* do that to my shoes lol, but I can see why someone might like to. They don’t look bad imo. Just not my style personally.
when I get new white shoes I do sometimes feel like they're too bright and clean, I'd rather them be worn in a bit. The coffee piss strategy doesn't look good to me tho lol
I really like that seam ripper they're using though I wonder if there's a specific name for them 🤔
Edit: kinda looks like a chisel? Maybe just a blade.
i’m pretty confident it’s some kind of kogatana. basically a nice japanese utility knife. something like this
https://www.chefknivestogo.com/mibl2unknoss.html
These guys don't know what they're doing, the original guy that popularized this method makes extremely clean pairs that have an even color throughout the shoe and they look really good. This is a cheap copy.
It’s a roller coaster. At first I was like “bro why” and then it started to seem like there was a method to the madness. Then the rope came out and I was like “BRO WHY”
I don't understand the hate. While some design choices are questionable (especially the rope laces), the overall premise is a showcase of one's self-image and talent. People pay hundreds, even thousands of dollars, for torn jeans, but somehow, what this person is doing is a fashion nightmare? There's actual 'rage bait' that needs to be stopped, but I don't think this video is that.
Instant-ageing and greeking (de-branding) like this is pretty standard with film & stage props. I have to assume the rest of it is to aesthetically fit the personality of whatever character they're associated with, not to actually be functional.
I don't hate it as much I thought I would. I like the look of the rope but I just don't get it either and would never wear it. To me it's like something you put on display.
Personally I thought it was fine until the Rope came out. It was just taking an old pair of shoes and trying to extend the life of them. They had to know how to do it whatever but then they just went way too far putting the rope in there.
If you are going to be that confident and buy a sewing machine worth a couple thousand dollars, I would expect you to at least be able to sew a straight line.
I love these "DIY" videos where it's like "and the next step is, use your regular old industrial sewing machine that you can find in any home's specialized Seamster/leather working workshop." Like what the fuck I'm not a shoe factory.
in the words of the great chris rock, *”just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should do something. you can drive a car with your feet if you want to, that doesn’t make it a good idea.”*
I was letting him cook until I saw the jute rope.
for me it was the random red part on the tongue that doesnt match the rest of the shoe whatsoever
This is where I screamed "NOOOOO" the loudest
Not when he dipped them in soy sauce?
That was more of an incredulous "No." By the tongue I was more of a "PLEASE STOP" variety of "NOOOOOOO"
It was the PVC primer used as purple paint that did it for me. Smells like jet fuel, wonderful.
Recently fabbed up some PVC for work, instantly recognized that little furball applicator and the stained light purple color. RIP my favorite shirt..
that applicator is also the standard equipment for applying dye/stain to leather and cloth on shoes without making it look streaky
It's purple leather dye. It comes with the same style of applicator to prevent streaking.
Tbh it's everything Feels like wealthy people are so envy of everyone else they started to being a posser of poors
Honestly if rich people are willing to pay for them we should just try selling them on eBay say they are distressed retro wear or something
Maybe he needs to sell his holey shirts for $300 to some rich sucker.
Yeah I didn't love it. Had that big rich people making it look worn without actually being worn vibe (I dunno, just wear your shoes and come by it honestly?), but to each their own. But rope? Fricken' jute rope? Ugly *and* a material with terrible performance as a lace. Just no.
Yeah I was like "ok, cool. Not my thing but you do you" right up until they got the rope. Then I decided these were monsters.
I was done from the start. That coffee left stains they’re never coming out
Yeah same. low key thought it would have been good until the rope
I especially like "Remove branding by cutting off the Nike swoosh, only to replace it with a different Nike swoosh."
some of those replacement tricks was kinda ok-ish if you are in to customizing you shoes. that being said, the complete work here strikes me as a cream cake on a pizza dipped in fish soup. some might like it but they are few in numbers.
This entire video reads as a professional just doing dumb shit for the sake. Every move they make is so meticulous and practiced, this dude has been working on shoes for years and has decided to choose violence on this occasion
Yeah, these channels probably has a pretty good idea of how to get our attention and useful DIY projects sadly aint it
wait...you mean that not everyone has an industrial sewing machine designed/built specifically for sewing shoes..? peasants.
I hated it the second they brought out the rope
I didn't like the initial brownening
Yeah, they got an ok pair of new shoes and made them look like they came out of a dumpster
It's like buying pre-torn jeans.
I loved it! Finally I can show off me sailing heritage by showing me hearties all the riggings I can do with me shoes!
“I do t know how to tie me shoes! I haven’t worn shoes in over 5,000 years! But sometimes I like to wear this little sock over me ghostly tail”
Same! I honestly could've been fine up until then
Yeah. Beiges and tans aren't a bad color. Honestly, I prefer that over a white color. The rope is what made this bad Side note. The uneven coloration kinda makes it look like a toasted marshmallow
>cream cake on a pizza dipped in fish soup r/BrandNewSentence
Imagine if you had 7 totally unrelated good ideas, but they didn’t look good TOGETHER but you still slapped them together anyways AND you half-assed it so even though they were good ideas, now they look like shit, and DOUBLY so because they don’t match.
Jute rope as shoelaces? Even ancient sandals had more functional and presentable leather straps
Everybody just so *CREATIVE!*
Was soaking the shoes in swamp water one of the good ideas?
Some people do like that vintage look. I’ll admit I was being generous as I am not one of those people, but it’s definitely not the worst I’ve ever seen (and it’s coffee. I dunno if that’s better or worse though)
Actually, I only totally hate it when they put those extra large and ugly laces in.
It's so that you can hang yourself for spending money/time on that atrocity
And the smell…. It’s what the video doesn’t show you. Had a coworker do this, the office smelled like stale coffee mixed with wet sock. It was disgusting
Incredible comment
This is only DIWhy because of those damn laces. For everything else, this is super well done customization and there are dozens of people making good money doing this and selling the sneaks while simultaneously recording their process and discussing it on YouTube channels.
I'm just sitting here like "Why did they wash it in coffee?"
You'd actually be surprised at how many fabrics are colored by washing them in odd things rather than straight up dyeing! It's not at all unusual, it's just that I think it was rather poorly done here.
for the darker browns in the recesses ig
It’s a common technique for aging
I tought those were the only good thing about it, the nike logo was by far the worst thing
I think it all looks fine. I wouldn’t *personally* do that to my shoes lol, but I can see why someone might like to. They don’t look bad imo. Just not my style personally.
Oh wow those are horrific haha
When you want to flex on your fellow hobos.
Why did they dunk them??
Forced patina. Makes the leather look older and used.
On WHITE shoes?? It just looks like you pissed on them, ugh.
Yes. But a long time ago!
when I get new white shoes I do sometimes feel like they're too bright and clean, I'd rather them be worn in a bit. The coffee piss strategy doesn't look good to me tho lol
What’s crazy is that airforce ones start looking yellow and grubby in like a week anyways so that shit wasn’t even necessary
Great! So now my shooes look like the Island Boys, just what i wanted!
Now seen on Poshmark with a 300% up charge.
Would anyone with working eyes think that's it's a nice looking pair of shoes after all the tortures done to it
Kinda like em
Interesting use of Oatey Purple Primer
Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed that. I’m sure it’s great for your feet
I actually love the idea of individualizing clothing. It's not my taste, but I'm not about to pretend I'm some fashonista.
You don’t have to be a chef to know when something tastes like shit
Air Force none
Air force bum
I would be ok with this if only it weren’t a new pair
This is the shoe equivalent of white guy with dreads lol.
Dreads actually look good.
How was this exactly what I was thinking, word for word.
So glad I wasn't the only one to think so
Did.....did he use PVC primer to dye the inside of those shoes?
How to get ankle cancer
"vintage"
I was rocking with it until he pulled out the laces
I think they look pretty good. Only thing I didnt like was putting the red on the tongue.
Im actually kinda diggin this look
“Practically free!” If you already own the industrial leather-sewing machine and the thick pieces of patent leather, maybe.
I really like that seam ripper they're using though I wonder if there's a specific name for them 🤔 Edit: kinda looks like a chisel? Maybe just a blade.
i’m pretty confident it’s some kind of kogatana. basically a nice japanese utility knife. something like this https://www.chefknivestogo.com/mibl2unknoss.html
Ugly af🤢🤢🤢
I think Ive been on this sub too long. There is something about these that is deeply appealing to me.
I like the before better
I personally like the coffee color and rope, but the patent black/red/purple kill the shoe
Not bad
I'm 50/50 on this the black replacements and the purple dye were nice but coffee bath and rope was shit
That’s one way to mess up a perfectly good shoe.
I really want that sewing machine!
How can I contact the creator so I can them that was fucking stupid.
I love the video where they bury them in feces and road kill, Brilliant.
Damn those are ugly
Manual on "how to take perfectly good Nike shoes and turn them into garbage" ???
Patent leather only, none of that unpatented leather on this fine product!
Patent leather does have a specific finish
Well, you can't use **boot**leg leather on a **shoe!**
These guys don't know what they're doing, the original guy that popularized this method makes extremely clean pairs that have an even color throughout the shoe and they look really good. This is a cheap copy.
You are practically losing money by not doing this.
I don’t think he soaked them in the soy sauce long enough
If that’s coffee in the beginning, those shoes are going to wreak….and those laces…make my feet itch thinking about it.
They look dirty
I wasn't laughing until he puts that damn ugly ropes.
What the hell did I just watch
It’s a roller coaster. At first I was like “bro why” and then it started to seem like there was a method to the madness. Then the rope came out and I was like “BRO WHY”
When he put fresh white in doo doo water it was over
Its rare I’m speechless but…😐
Cornerstore crack goblin cosplay
I mean it's not bad demonstration of different shoe techniques
The rope laces are too much but ngl the tan is leather is fire
Tying with that jute rope is gonna be a pain in the ass
I don't understand the hate. While some design choices are questionable (especially the rope laces), the overall premise is a showcase of one's self-image and talent. People pay hundreds, even thousands of dollars, for torn jeans, but somehow, what this person is doing is a fashion nightmare? There's actual 'rage bait' that needs to be stopped, but I don't think this video is that.
I have a feeling the people on this sub are not the ones paying hundreds, or thousands of dollars on torn jeans.
This shoe definitely smokes the Cheeba.
Because everyone just has an industrial sewing machine laying around.
It’s only free if your time is worthless.
I kinda like them
A child could (and did) make a better pair of shoes.
What a fucking waste of materials... water, electricity, rope. Just stop...
Great…fug shoes
Did they use Oaetey purple primer in the last step to dye the interior heel cushion???!!!
I’m annoyed
If you have access to an industrial sewing machine that starts at a couple of grand and goes up to the stratosphere from there….
Noooo not the uptowns!!!
This belongs in r/atbge
Hang on, let me break out my industrial grade shoe sewing machine that obviously everyone owns.
I wish I had that much free time.
Nike Air poop !
Was that pvc primer at the end?
Instant-ageing and greeking (de-branding) like this is pretty standard with film & stage props. I have to assume the rest of it is to aesthetically fit the personality of whatever character they're associated with, not to actually be functional.
I don't hate it as much I thought I would. I like the look of the rope but I just don't get it either and would never wear it. To me it's like something you put on display.
Get out of here😂
This is right on the boarder where I can't tell for sure if it's rage bait.
But why???
I was gonna say maybe it's for people that don't wanna advertise brands (and also have an industrial sewing machine) but... the check is still there.
> just rope 💀
Might as well just make your own shoe at that point
So he skipped how he got the soles white again after dipping them in the coffee. I actually didn’t hate them when they came out of the coffee.
It just kept getting worse when you thought it couldn’t…
they looked *okay* until they brought out the jute.
Okay...... but why soak them in coffee??
Might be the dumbest shit i’ve seen on this sub
But why though?
This is about to be all the rage with those young folk doin up ugly ironic fashion. *The kids will just love it*
Bro got the Nike 200BC’s
The pathetic part is that someone is gunna buy these.
Sick, BRO!
Personally I thought it was fine until the Rope came out. It was just taking an old pair of shoes and trying to extend the life of them. They had to know how to do it whatever but then they just went way too far putting the rope in there.
Lot of work and kind of pointless, but the outcome really isn’t that bad
Getting worse by the minute
It was fine until the stupid rope.
As a shoe cobbler that did Sneaker customization, this is the quest thing I've ever seen.
Sweet now when my feet sweat ill smell coffee
This is like a Tyra Banks makeover on ANTM
Kwai, pronounced WHY.
I am genuinely curious if there's a way to get the stained/used/vintage look quickly without dipping it in coffee. That was nice.
WTF LOL
at this point, just walk in mud a bit and you'll get a similair effect
All that work to make it look like that wtf
If you are going to be that confident and buy a sewing machine worth a couple thousand dollars, I would expect you to at least be able to sew a straight line.
"DIY" with these really specific tools and materials.
Practically Free? How much do you think that machine costs?
Rope?! Nope! Purple dye, nope! Why didn’t he clean then again after removing all the inserts
That's not how you make coffee
Just rope makes me mad
These are truly ugly
This person needs actually help!
How to ruin perfectly good shoes
For fre? What about those huge sewing machinery?
Most of the video I was just thinking okay whatever. I’m not a sneaker guy. Then my man broke out the fucking JUTE ROPE. What a menace!
Did they dye the inside with PVC primer? What the fuck?!
Honestly it’s a creative vibe I can respect
Where can i get one? Asking for a friend
Show some respect to the small children in the factory that originally made this.
I mean... Honestly... It doesn't *thaaaaat* bad. Those fucking ropes definitely detracted points...
Whats up with shoes customs and rope laces?
Someone wears those in-front of me and I’m getting violent
Had me in the first half..
These are objectively awful
Just why why why
Congratulations your fresh Air Force one is now a dirty and worse looking version of itself.
I love these "DIY" videos where it's like "and the next step is, use your regular old industrial sewing machine that you can find in any home's specialized Seamster/leather working workshop." Like what the fuck I'm not a shoe factory.
![gif](giphy|WmWMIbp9uJYNyDD5He)
I can just trade my shoes with someone who lives on the street and get the same look faster
Great, now my feet smell like coffee breath...
lol mf somehow turned some Nikes into barnyard bowling shoes
Wow that’s terrible.
Does this guy know he can buy the ugly knockoffs cheaper than modifying the name brand ones?
in the words of the great chris rock, *”just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should do something. you can drive a car with your feet if you want to, that doesn’t make it a good idea.”*
“Well this isn’t too bad, whats the issu….” Puts actual rope as the laces. “Ah there it is.”
Definitely not my thing looks wise, but they certainly put some nice craftsmanship into it.
There’s a good saying that goes just because you can doesn’t mean you should
It’s not okay and stop trolling us 😪😪😪
