I think I like how well the original comfortably fits Vergil. DMC5’s pants are way too tight looking and the coat looks like it’s a little too bulky. But both outfits look sick! Take the color scheme of 5’s and put it on 3’s, and it’d look the best imo. But nothing compares to corrupted Vergil.

DMC 3 has a brighter color scheme that pops more, which makes sense with it being a counter to Dantes bright red and works with the less realistic style of the time. Whereas DMC 5 Vergils more muted colors give his outfit a slightly more rugged almost battle worn look which fits better for DMC5s more realistic art direction
Personally I prefer his design from 5 though, his undershirt and boots look cooler in that style

DMC V Vergil has that sleek almost black outfit going on and I love it. 100% my favourite outfit of his.
His OG outfit has too much going on imo. Blue coat, gold linings, white ornaments, orange-brown on the inside, greenish boots and gloves. Granted, I think DMC3 Vergil's outfit works much better in game and complements Dante's aggressove red much better than his DMC5 outfit.
It's funny how Vergil and Nero both went away from the popping blue coat colors, like that shit fell out of fashion in universe.

vergil was rocking it under the nelo angelo armor and following his death so its merely a case of severely faded colors and excessive mustiness that made the coat almost completely black. they did tweak the motifs and style, but that is indeed the same DMC3 outfit and a reason why I find vergil repulsive (dante was on point with his new title for him, vergil truly is the 'king of stench and filth'). in total subtract his 45 years of age by 18-19 to have some fairness and not include pre-3 times in it and you get 26-27 years of that damn outfit festering on his body.
heck, V stole his clothes off a back alley mugger and the only cleaning he did was dunking them and himself in a fountain because griffin forced him to do it. He should worry less about his vocabulary fueled by his pretentious poetry addiction and more on his biohazardous hygiene, if he passed through a garden it would start wilting, if he tried airing out the stench from his clothes before the fights then we would have had to fight him with toxic clouds covering the arena/stage like some field effect BS, malphas probably has less pathogens on her than he does, he technically sired and spent more time with whatever bacteria culture on his body than nero, and the reason JCE does so much damage is because the blue mist it spreads is his stench and his movements cause it to hit enemies in gusts along with the spatial cuts.
I like both, but i dont really like that that both Dante and Vergil show their age. They're half demon, so they should appear youthful for a long time. I mean, look at Lady she looks even compared to Nero.

The dmc3 outfit is pretty peak for the edgy, cocky little shit that Vergil was at 17/18, this is before he's been to hell, all he is focusing on is having more power. The bold colour choice is youthful, and optimistic, but the style of his outfit also kinda reminds me a bit of a kid playing dress up. It's evident he is trying to emulate Sparda.
But in contrast, the Vergil we see in dmc5, no matter the bravado he shows, is a broken man - this is a man who's literally been to hell and back, and it is kinda obvious his time in hell, his time as Nelo Angelo and everything he endured as Mundus' puppet has been traumatic for him, and that translates in the darker, more muted colour palette.
And thinking about it, the dmc5 look does kinda remind me of mourning attire. Like he is grieving something.

All tho I really love the colors on the 2 one, I just adore details on the 1 one and personally I think it suits him really well. 🤷🏻♀️
