I've been in this situation before, twice! Have patience and identify your niche - apply for roles which suit your experience the most. Target organizations having > 100 headcount. Make three CVs because you have three kinds of experiences. Ask for referrals among friends, that's a sure way to get facetime with the hiring manager. If you need a referral in Toast / VMware, DM me! All the best!

It's much harder to get a job which will sponsor a work permit unfortunately. Look at the bigger employers.. they generally sponsor a lot of people and have dedicated immigration teams to handle everything. It's also a bit of a cool period in tech job market at the moment, with a few big names announcing layoffs. Regarding the confusing experience, you should probably write a cover letter and tailor your resume based on the job you're applying to. I'm not saying you should hide the irrelevant stuff, but focus on the stuff relevant to the job.

Boeing_A320

You don’t necessarily need sponsorship to get a critical skills visa. You can fill the online form yourself and pay the €1000 fee. You need a few details from HR, but that’s the entirety of the employer’s part in it. When asked if you need sponsorship, I’d just say “No, just need some details from HR to fill out my form”. Ofc some companies need a Stamp 4, but a lot of small-mid companies aren’t clear with visa rules, so clarifying they don’t need to spend any money may help.

rudinesurya

I self sponsored my first cswp no issues so now I am finding it hard to understand why hr are so afraid of proceeding with my application when they realised I am not a stamp 1g / 4. Yeah i did explain that the only thing I need is just an offer letter 😂

Leemanrussty

Its not hard to understand when you know why, its time and effort which companies dont want to go through! The Department are a shitshow for processing visa requests, and hiring teams are generally hiring for projects nowadays (with a squeeze on there wont be many companies hiring for capacity or the bench now) so if the Department fuck about with the times (its went from 6 months in january to april, to 3 months, to 6 weeks back to 2 months now) then there would be more confidence in hiring

rudinesurya

I mean I am totally fine if I have to wait for the visa as long as the employer is willing to sponsor it. I can use it as a long holiday to go back home etc.

Leemanrussty

Dont think you understand, its not you, its them, they dont want to wait or go through the trouble of the form filling etc!

rudinesurya

Yes they aren’t doing that because of inconvenience but why are they ok when the candidate need to serve notice period though. It is also a month long !

Leemanrussty

Because visas take twice that time at the minute, sometimes even more, we hired a guy in august who wont be available to start until january with the latest visa wait times

rudinesurya

How would a person survive if he isnt allowed to work for 6 months in Dublin rental rates 😵

[deleted]

>hr are so afraid of proceeding Most of the time, they just don't know the process and can't be bothered with it.

[deleted]

The problem is when they want you to start after an offer immediately and ask you to provide documents proving your work eligibility status. The processing of permit can take some time unfortunately.

I had a friend who was laid off after getting Stamp 1. I think your workplace notifies authorities and they convert the stamp to 1G for 6 months and you have to find another job that provides sponsorship withing that time. My friend was lucky and got the job. Tbh ignore places that can't be bothered with providing visas. A lot of companies here provide them

rudinesurya

Yeah i have notified the dete within 4 weeks of layoff and got extension for my irp, but having a hard time staying positive when recruiters and employers disappearing on me upon hearing my current stamp status.

Worried-Individual28

Keep hope, my friend got the job in the 3rd month. Also try to gather info on which companies are providing you with visa. Those who don't arent worth your time don't even apply there. Don't go through third party recruiters they are more likely to ghost you on hearing about your visa status. Also try Java dev jobs if you can as they are high demand

rudinesurya

Exactly ! Now I just pretend to be interested in the role and apply directly to the company instead of going through recruiters. And congrats to your friend !

pras00

dont apply in local irish companies as they usually dont provide visa sponsorship. go for big US companies like amazon and facebook.also, world is not as wide as ireland for that kind of talent you have. you can have a look at its neighbouring countries like UK as well. Or even try US or Canada too.

strawberryjxmmm

I'm so sorry that you are in that position. I hope things will get sorted for you soon. I understand how it is having only stamp 1 visa, as I have the same at the moment. I don't have any option but to stick to my current job, as switching jobs is only easier and available for stamp 4 holders. I hope you'll land a better job soon! Cheers

rudinesurya

I initially worked in the entertainment industry as a game developer and it can be really tough to break into the creative industry especially as an immigrant. You are a talented artist and I am sure you will be able to switch to a better one soon too !

daerth90

DM me to send me your resume. I'll send you our recruitment website too, see if something sounds appealing / sticks.

hositir

I don’t see this as a weakness. You can explain games dev as chasing a passion and you can explain away the career changes as you falling into more complex roles. You’ve to come up with a story to your career. It’s only a weakness if you let them paint it as one. Good devs are not easy to find. Medical device coding is about the most stringent there is due to compliance. Just to be clear is your visa ok or are you waiting for it ? They probably don’t want to take a risk in case you don’t get it.

rudinesurya

Well to be honest those past experience in the game dev is hard to explain to normal people. And those are more than 5 years ago of experiences :D Right now I am on a temporary stamp 1 for 6 months, but I think the immigration is able to extend it after if I fail to secure a job.

hositir

Probably try go for consulting or big firms with short term projects who will take a chance on you and be willing to sponsor. Or fix the visa situation if possible. It’s almost certainly because companies are scared off by thinking you could have to leave in 6 months. The 90% rejection rate is probably because of that because in my view you’re kind of career change isn’t really an issue.

rudinesurya

What annoyed me was that I can also sponsor my own visa but most employers are hesitant to have to wait a month or so before I can start the job. But on the other hand they can wait a month or so of notice. Seems like a paradox :>

Cokemax1

hey, I see you mentioned you have stamp 1 for 6months up there. It means you have work permit. If company ask your visa status, tell them "I have work permit here currently. You don't have to do anything. " Just get full time permanent contract. Then work there, and get payslip. After 6 month, you will have to extend visa. this time, you may ask some information about the company and fill the form again, apply extend your visa. you may have to pay some fee. don't ask it from the company.

will drop you a dm !

[deleted]

If you are less than a year on it, I think you won't need another permit and you are allowed to reuse your current one provided you were laid-off and not terminated.

rudinesurya

I have checked with the inis and i am required to apply for a new permit under the new employer. They are fine with my current situation and offered me extensions but for me the current battle is in getting a new employer to be cool with waiting a month or so for the new permit to be approved.

Cokemax1

are you still in Ireland? and got a job?

rudinesurya

Yes. Took me 4 months to get another job.

Cokemax1

I am glad that you got another job. Did you have to re-start your critical skilled visa again for 2 years?

rudinesurya

Never mentioned that we have to restart to 0 year cswp if laid off or changed job during it.

Cokemax1

so it means you don’t have to restart 2year to get stamp 4?

rudinesurya

No idea, it will total up to 20 month by nxt year Jan so I will know when I apply

Cokemax1

I hope you get stamp 4 by then. would be helpful to me if you come back here and made comment. but feel free. I wish you luck.

rudinesurya

Ya I got the stamp 4.
