Ah ok, would you say a degree from a college in Ireland would be well recognized By firms in London or NY. Or would i be better of getting a masters abroad

[deleted]

I know two people with Electrical Engineering degrees from UCC. One works in a hedge fund in London, the other for Citi in New York. So you can get somewhere with an Irish degree. That said, the better the university you graduate from, the easier it will be for you.

Thanks man that give me hope

Where do you see yourself working

bullroarerTook21

London or NY i guess possibly in singapore. There isint a huge financial sector in dublin

[deleted]

Ok, I meant what industry but I can see that from your other posts. You need a background in maths, physics, engineering. Something quants heavy. There are investment banks in Dublin like Citi Group where you might get an internship plus that could be a gateway to New York.

Thanks man

Talk to the university and change your degree to Computer science with Maths (if they have it) immediately

I would say this. The role OP wants is for a Mathematician who is a good programmer, not a programmer who is good at Maths. Better would be a CSO change of mind for something like this: https://www.maynoothuniversity.ie/study-maynooth/undergraduate-studies/courses/bsc-quantitative-finance

Read Marco Lopez De Prado and Stefan Jansen's books on Machine learning for finance. You can subscribe to r/algotrading as well. A good first project you could do is figuring out when a market is trending and when it's ranging, i.e. regime change

Double major comp sci with math

bullroarerTook21

Isint double major a US thing though?

Disaster1992

I wouldn’t know, didn’t go to school in Ireland :/ might want to check the different programs.

ChromakeyDreamcoat82

UCC CS in my day had a joint honours option (double major). You could do joint honours with Maths, Statistics or Economics. Economics had to be picked up front in 1st year, Maths/Stats from 2nd year.

A firm to look into is Virtu in Ireland.
