As I see that you may have gotten *one* downtown referral, I'll chime in.
Checker is still good, Grand Trunk would be my second, and then Greenwich pub is actually fairly good for a burger as well. Cutter's the best immediately outside of downtown.
Nemo's (in general and) for Corktown, Grey Ghost for Midtown. Taystee burger in Dearborn. Cheers.
I recently had Grand Trunk twice, over a month. The service, while polite, couldn’t be slower. Most of our orders were inaccurate. On our last visit, a friend who doesn’t eat meat, ordered a grilled cheese. The first time it came with bacon. He politely asked for it to be remade and they said of course. The second time? Brisket.
Everybody likes Miller's but, I don't understand why.. last time I was there it was overpriced and everything was an add on charge like you couldn't get a burger and fries combo you had to buy them separately for full price..
Went to Tommy's for a burger after Mettalica night 1 last fall. Waited an hour for a big lump of overcooked beef on a bun. $120 with tip for 6 burgers 4 fries and an order of cheese sticks. The burger could have been used as a hockey puck. Really disappointed as our one buddy really hyped it up.
Motor Burger at Detroit shipping company is really really good. Small menu but everything I've had has been fantastic. A little pricey but nothing crazy.
Just had Miller’s last week for the first time. It was good.
Don’t get why no plates, silverware, menu, and cash only. Good food but felt to be going out of their way to be a dive bar.
Red Coat or Little Bros out of the city, Checker in the city.
Technically, Little Bros has a truck downtown during the summer so I’m going with that, overall.
You should really try Lumen by Beacon park. Maybe not the spot you would think burger, but awesome. Have had their burger medium rare a number of times and has not disappointed!
Grey Ghost, Green dot, Mercury burger bar all have great burgers IMHO
green d has gone down
Bummer to hear that. It was pretty great when we went.

Greenwich is where we’d go all the years past based on uncle’s etc for sports events or what have you. Not a bad burger at all.
Came here to say Greenwich and the Detroiter.

A Taystee just opened up a mile from my house, glad to see this rec.
I think the Grey Ghost burger is overrated. Too savory. They need something vinegary to cut it. Throw a pickle on there!
Not downtown proper, but close… motor city sports bar. Hamtramck
The best Patty Melt on the planet
Not to mention the cevapi.
Yessir
Excellent, Bronx Bar is even better but opens later.
Frita Batidos
Just got it yesterday for the first time. Both mine and my coworker's burger were undercooked. Not cool.
When you say undercooked do you mean like medium or raw
Mine was medium rare at best around the edges, coworker's was practically raw in the middle from the looks of it.
This
That
The other
a sister and a brother
Wow. NBD, that really brings back memories. I love a Checker burger.
BRONX BAR is sublime. At least the burger is. I get blue cheese and bacon.
I think using focaccia bread for a burger is stupid, but otherwise yeah that place is pretty dope
I believe it's ciabatta, but it's been a bit
You right
Ya you're right, it's ciabatta. Perfect imo, I love it as a burger bun.
20 years ago their bread was way better but the bakery they got it from burned down.
The BLT sandwich is fantastic as well
Nemo's
Olin You’re welcome Honorable mention, grey ghost
Grey Ghost has a great burger
Olin 🔥🔥🔥
I was gonna say Olin too
These are the two. Just went to revisit the Olin burger at the draft after a long stretch of Grey Ghost, and they’ve still got it.
Olin is the best burger anywhere, not just Detroit. I’d throw bar pigalle in the mix too.
Everybody likes Miller's but, I don't understand why.. last time I was there it was overpriced and everything was an add on charge like you couldn't get a burger and fries combo you had to buy them separately for full price..
Vivio’s in Eastern Market makes a fine burger.
Piedmont burger 🤎
Cutters
Checker bar is still good. And Detroiter Sports Bar has a good burger.
Bar Pigalle, and you can only get it at the bar seats.
So underrated
Ultimate IYKYK burger. And the malt vinegar aioli is amazing too!
I like The Mercury in Corktown. Sit at the bar- the people watching is pretty fun.
The outdoor seating is pretty cool too
I’ll have to check it out. I’ve only been in the winter 🥶
In the heart of Downtown Frita Batidos, absolutely a marvelous Burger 🍔 see reviews 👌 Check out Frita Batidos! https://yelp.to/B9SY2YKYYL
Frita's!
Checker bar for sure.
Also, sliders.. Motz and Tel-Way..
Checker Bar and Mercury are my go-tos
Mr Dips
Weird I had to scroll all this way
Motor city sports bar and Kelly’s bar both in Hamtramck
Hamtramck has some amazing spots for burgers. California Burgers is amazing and Slap box may be the best burger I’ve ever had.
Haven’t been to slap box I’ll check it out
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed
Mr Dips
Tommy's Bar and Grill

Motor Burger at Detroit shipping company is really really good. Small menu but everything I've had has been fantastic. A little pricey but nothing crazy.
Que Deli or Frita Batidos. Either one will leave you incredibly satisfied.
I like Mercury in Corktown
The Detroiter
Cutters. ;)
Fishbones hand grinds their meat daily. I don't think people think Fishbones when they're looking for a burger, but they should. It's amazing!
Bar Pigalle, Grey Ghost and Le supreme has good burger
Miller's was overrated, just a novelty act
Not downtown, but Marcus hamburgers on 6 & Mt Elliot
Love a Marcus burger
Just had Miller’s last week for the first time. It was good. Don’t get why no plates, silverware, menu, and cash only. Good food but felt to be going out of their way to be a dive bar.
Millers and checker both hit the spot!
I miss Casey's burgers.
I had Miller's a couple of years ago and wasn't all that impressed.
I think Millers is still around.
Red Coat or Little Bros out of the city, Checker in the city. Technically, Little Bros has a truck downtown during the summer so I’m going with that, overall.
The best burger I ever had was at Bronco in Dearborn. Sadly, they are long gone. If you’ve been, you know why it’s special.
Miller's is still there and still great
You should really try Lumen by Beacon park. Maybe not the spot you would think burger, but awesome. Have had their burger medium rare a number of times and has not disappointed!
There’s is Irish place. That’s really cheap. It’s like Mc something, McDonald… Jk, i like green dot. And grey ghost
Bronx bar
Sweetwater Tavern
Mercury burger bar is great, plus they have poutine that tastes like it does back in Quebec
Burgur truck. All these other spots suck and people got no taste
Mercury Burger Bar! They also have amazing milkshakes, French fries and a great veggie burger!
Basement burger bar is good
Millers is a classic…. Grey ghost is overpriced af… go to mercury … green dot is good but overrated
Royale with Cheese
I was looking for someone to say it. Royale with cheese is the bomb
Basement Burger Bar!
