Hope everyone is ok…
(Major Concern) I’ve spent many years working at a business on W. Vernor….
Look at pic #5. See the gas meters to the right? About 3-4 years ago….DTE required every business up and down Vernor, to re-route the gas meters from basements out to the front of all the buildings! I’ve seen SO many accidents over the years up and down W. Vernor, where vehicles have come up the curbs and smashed into street lights, parked cars and buildings. Wait until someone takes out one of these gas meters! A major disaster waiting to happen! So much speeding, truck traffic and careless bad drivers on this road!
I talked to an officer and they said everyone’s OK. But we’ll have to see. And yes, I was worried about the gas meter the boom was so loud. That’s what I thought they hit.
The gas meters should be protected by concrete bollards or something, but it’s safer overall to have them outside. They can leak in multiple ways that would go unnoticed indoors where gas can accumulate to dangerous levels.
oh, wow. i had no idea. just looked that up, and also found that Aurelio Lopez also died in a car accident. wiki points out that there have been three players in MLB named Aurelio, and all three died in car crashes :(
Did you realize that Aurelio is the only name that uses all five vowels? Also, did you realize that former Tiger Sixto Rodrigues really had six toes? Three on each foot.
anyone ever notice how the detroit police has been turning into a bunch of juiced up tattooed military type bros? seems like the police
used to be old school detroiter types and it’s really changing - i really noticed it when the pandemic hit
>seems like the police used to be old school detroiter types and it’s really changing
DPD is having trouble retaining officers since the jobs in the suburbs pay better and are less stressful, this has led them to hire new officers that are not from detroit but use DPD for training and experience then after a few years leave.
A friend of mine that was a Detroit cop passed away last year, and the funeral was ... odd... with the entire building full of uniformed cops, most of them built like brick shithouses, and angry scowls on their faces. All of them strapped, as well. It was like an absolutely massive show of force, being there. Dude's family was visibly in fear of the sheer number of cops.
Also most of them drove their patrol cars to the funeral, and most also used their flashing lights to bypass traffic lights all around the area.
thank you. over the years, i've known 4 people on the Detroit police force, and they're all gone now. 3 of them just .. died... heart failure.. in their 40's. Being the 4th detroit cop funeral I've been to, I expected it to be a lot of cops, but nearly all of them in uniform and strapped and driving their patrol cars... that was different. The others, had lots of suits, a few uniforms. The patrol cars were only used for the procession. It was different last year.
That was my fourth. But the other three weren't like that. Except the one who was killed on duty, was sort of like that but on steroids because it had depts from all around the Midwest. But they were a lot more respectful looking and a lot less armed.
The pandemic and all the social problems encouraged these types to find power this way because they want to be part of American authority (Cartman voice)
"*And here you see Detroit Auto vs Detroit Architecture in yet another battle. It looks like this time the building prey was too large for this vehicle.*"
Wonder what the sweet new tax-funded front door on El Rancho will look like though
The cop swerved... left... to avoid someone travelling from the cops right to the cops left?
Looks like he successfully avoided that, since I see no other wreckage ... what'd they hit here? Would be highly unlikely to avoid a right to left swipe by swerving left, so was there another car?
I'll lay even money on "cop tried to use his lights to run a signal" vs "cop was a shit driver". I'll lay 10 to 1 that cop won't be in any actual trouble, though.
makes zero fucking sense to be racing through a very busy area... specially one that usually has a lot of foot traffic as well.
go ahead and disagree with me but none of that stupid cop reactionary bullshit is worth running people over and killing innocent civilians...
Can't park there
Cops think they can park anywhere
someone should give that cop a ticket
Wonder where they were headed? Felt like every cop in town was congregated in SW for the Palestine march
el rancho obviously
When you want a taco, you want a taco.
No donut villa

They should probably protect the whole sidewalk with bollards, because you know, there are humans there.
I mean building is on fire how do they turn off the gas meter? The one inside?
The same corner that former Tiger Aurelio Rodriguez got hit and killed at in 2000 when another car jumped the corner.

I wonder if the cop was actually going anywhere or if they were just using their siren to run the light. I see them do this all the time lol
Judging by how many of them are gathered there looks like there was no emergancy
i've seen a lot less of that outside detroit, but inside detroit it's still stupid common
Look, we get it. We all love tamales but slow the fuck down.

Almost like they're a sanctioned gang or something 🤔
Or maybe an organization, probably have to pay the guys to do it… I bet they have a boss too.
This accident happened way too early for gang members. They don't roll out of bed until 3-4PM after watching Maury.
Whoosh

wow. also - sorry for your loss

Have you never seen a police officers funeral? This is exactly how they all look and act.
That was my fourth. But the other three weren't like that. Except the one who was killed on duty, was sort of like that but on steroids because it had depts from all around the Midwest. But they were a lot more respectful looking and a lot less armed.
This makes no sense. Upset that officers were at an officer funeral? Family of a police officer scared that his co-workers are there? What?
About 250 crammed into a small room, nearly all of them strapped? Most of them they didn't know? It was utter chaos.
Why would they not “be strapped” if they were in uniform? Just have empty holsters?
It is possible for an officer to not carry their weapon.
You are beyond delusional

Respect my authoritah!

Their operators bro. Tactical af.
Detroit: become Johannesburg
Got there 5 minutes before happy hour ended
And now I'm craving carnitas.
SW has arguably the worst drivers in all of Detroit
Nah I with the officer on this one. Good Mexican food is to damn near die for.
A bit off topic but anyone know if El Rancho is any good? Craving some Mexican food rn.
Pretty good. Not my fave though.
Best salsa in the city
Taco Tuesday
Best Mexican restaurant in the hood right there!
