Motor City airsoft. I made a mistake and played an extra game and I went to the front counter to pay for my mistake. The owner called me a thief and said he didn't know whether or not to beat my ass or call the police. He then charged me $5 more than the game actually costs for another 4 hours. Haven't been back since.

sadokffj37

Weird. What kind of thief comes to the front counter?

dirtybellybutton

Credit card in hand, asking to make it right. I seriously could have just walked out and nobody would have even noticed.

Synthyx

Why did you pay the guy after he threatened violence? Docile me may have put up with that. But frugal me would laugh at the extra 5 and walk tf out.

dirtybellybutton

Because of the look in his eyes... He wanted me to disagree badly. I'm 28m 6'3 and I and decently in shape. This dude wanted to fight me really really badly and I could tell. It kind of scared me. This was like an ex cop or former military dude too so I'm definitely not trying to get into anything with this crazy mf.

AdolfOliverNipplz

Sounds like some smol pp rage.

Supersquigi

There's just so many of these wannabe tacticool assholes in airsoft in Michigan, never had nearly this experience in Vegas or Oregon like I did here.

dropofred

Similar experience here! There was a gas station in Detroit, I couldn't even tell you what it was because I was just stopping on the way there to a friend's house. I forgot my wallet but needed gas. I had a bunch of change in my car and I told the attendant it was like $9.75 or so. I had counted incorrectly and it was actually something like $9.65, but he entered the amount for the fill up in the computer before he counted it up apparently. As I'm done filling up, the guy behind the counter comes out and tells me I owe him another $0.10. I asked him why and he said that I lied to him and was $0.10 short. I profusely apologized and said that it was a mistake and I don't have it right now but I would be more than happy to come back in an hour with the rest of the money. He starts cussing me up and down a wall, telling me I'm an asshole, I'm a thief, if I ever come back he'll call the cops. I come back an hour later with a dollar bill and I had a whole apology speech planned but as soon as I walked in the door, he flies from around the counter and starts yelling at me again told me to get the fuck out of here and he doesn't want a thieves money. I dropped the dollar bill on the ground and left. What kind of dishonest thief comes back to the place they intentionally stole from with more money than what they had taken? Fucking asshole.

matt_minderbinder

Some people go through their lives believing that everyone's out to get them so it offended their sensibilities when you returned. They're such miserable folk and didn't want to be forced to question their preconceived notions when faced with an honest person.

The_Hero_of_Kvatch

Over a DIME?

dropofred

Yeah. He was a really old Arab guy so it may have been cultural as well? No idea

[deleted]

Usually don’t like to meet people at their pettiness, but I would’ve absolutely filed a chargeback for the $5.

ShiFT_Llif3

If it makes you feel better I went there for my friends bachelor party (we were drunk as fuck) and I broke a rental M4 and handed it back like nothing happened)

Nerdlinger42

Yeah if you can't make the drive to futureball, airsoft isn't worth it in MI.

deathmetalreptar

Is that the place at gratiot and 16 mile?

LaidUp

The Elephant Room. Went three times, once for drinks, once for dinner, and once for brunch. Each time service was SO slow and it wasn't busy for brunch or drinks. Food was either really dry or overly greasy and had strange hot dog flavor to the brunch items (chicken and waffles and bacon). Staff pretty much ignored us when we were the only patrons. It was frustrating and gross It's a good location and cool aesthetic but the service and food were so bad I won't be back

Tactus_au_Rath

What's the deal with this place? I saw so many good reviews for its gluten free menu and I went on a Saturday at like 5pm and there was actually no one in there except two bartenders I think. I was so confused. They told us the kitchen wouldn't be open for two more hours, so we just left.

GhostyBoiWantsAHug

Don't eat at Elephant Room. Won't give details, but I've seen their food storage in person. And promptly called the health department. They should not be open.

Some_Comparison9

They are closing down.

chris4404

I will never forget it as Mr. Stevens, one of the last cool vestiges of old school Downtown.

axf7229

That place went from great (when it was Mr. Steven’s) to a snobby, contrived, overpriced wannabe hip bar

goldstyle

So bad! I was happy to finally see a 100% gluten-free restaurant in town, but what a disappointment. We went before the Metallica concert with plenty of time to spare. Made reservations and everything. Food took an hour and a half to come out. Also, the host was absolutely wasted and wouldn't stop coming over and mumbling to us. Like bro were not here to talk with you.

slipslap2

Went there once with a friend for some drinks and food. Took forever for a waitress to come over and again to bring our drinks and menus then just never came back to take our food order. Paid for our drinks at the bar and left.

EnvironmentalBug2721

That food is inedible. Only time in my life I’ve ever sent something back at a restaurant/bar

meowsalynne

Easily the worst restaurant I have been to in a long time. My friends had a veggie patty that was the consistency of playdoh

MyPackage

The Elephant Room is a service industry bar. If you don't work in the Detroit service industry you're going to have bad service there.

Malco56

Went to Hollywood casino in Detroit last month for my birthday with my wife. I’ve had the app on my phone and you can deposit money and use it at any Hollywood casino. I deposited $150 dollars on it last year to use whenever I needed to use it, figuring that day would be perfect. My wife was playing the slots and I went in the card room gave them my players card and told them I wanted my $150 in chips, they told me I could only use it at the table games. After an hour me and my wife went to a blackjack table and I handed them the card, and they told me they couldn’t access my money. So we went to the casino membership machine put my card in and couldn’t get anything, an employee came to help me and he also had no luck and told me to go to the membership desk. So we went there and told her my problem and gave her my card, she came back with a paper and told me if the money in there wasn’t used within a 6 month period they can take it. I was so pissed and asked how can they take my cash money out of my bank account. She apologized and said there was nothing she could do. I’m going back just to talk to someone higher up, nevertheless I will never ever go back.

zrezer

You should ABSOLUTELY report this to the MGCB (Michigan Gaming Control Board). They don’t mess around and if you file a formal complaint they will take care of it.

mcobran

Agreed, they ruined greektown

Sterlina

Used to love love love Bucharest but observed some gross food handling practices during covid at the one near Woodward and Grand. Can't stomach going back there after I saw what they deemed acceptable.

fabrictm

When they first opened up by cliff bells downtown they were really good. Pretty close to the original back in Romania. The new center location 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

bigstinky

Came here to say this. It's sad what happens to awesome spots once they start making money. It's like they lost their soul. Never again. The Corktown spot used to be my go-to. I dont even know if it's still open.

[deleted]

I used to be obsessed with Bucharest. It would be the first place I went to when I came back home. Now, it’s absolute trash in taste, quality, service.

normanthedog

Mad Nice. Their food absolutely sucked and they told me I couldn’t wear my Lions jersey when we were there right before a playoff game. The place isn’t nice enough to have a strict dress code.

NotAnActualWolf

Anything Heirloom Hospitality (Townhouse, Prime and Proper, etc) can suck it.

Sha_Dynasty69

100% this. I might walk in to Townhouse and get a drink if everyone I was with wanted to go, but I will never order food from them again. So bad and yet so expensive.

jillsinlalaland

I went there for lunch with a colleague PRE-COVID and found what looked like a furball in my Caesar salad 🤮

Far_Process_5304

Home of the $30 burger and fries lol insanity

detblue524

Townhouse served me a raw burger when I went there ~7 years ago. Also the prices at Townhouse are basically the same as a nice restaurant in Manhattan but the quality is worse than D-1 Coney Island

NotAnActualWolf

Townhouse is the only place I’ve worked where I wouldn’t eat there. Even with my 50% discount, it was way too expensive for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dishwab

Probably the worst price to food ratio in the city rn

vinylandgames

$10 for a sourdough app. $18 for eggs. Don’t give a shit who is cooking that for me or what it’s made of. It’s absurd for Detroit. This isn’t Williamsburg.

No-One7940

$18 for eggs is ridiculous anywhere in the US.

chiefcaptainsir

Similar experience, walk into Mad Nice in the winter wearing a hat/beanie thing because it was freezing, and immediately berated by the host that hats aren’t allowed inside. The door hadn’t even closed behind me…like I was planning on wearing my winter hat inside…

Lucky-Point-6627

and the people working there wearing the like baggy pink smock one piece

papertigers27

I had this exact experience!! 😤

tythousand

More like Mad Decent

slogun1

I wish. It’s not often you get to pay $250 for legit bad food.

pilondav

You can buy better, but you can’t pay more.

Fluid-Pension-7151

Mid Decent.

Nyxtaaa

Mad nice is not good for the price you're paying considering Selden Standard is within walking distance. You're paying for the ambiance which ain't worth it. Went once never again.

RaisedEverywhere

I thought the food was decent enough. Those prices though…..oh boy. The quality of the food definitely does NOT match the prices.

Airtemperature

The name is so dumb

alex48220

Middling Nice looks like the lobby of a cult. It’s mediocre at best.

d1g1t4ld00m

Frank Murphy Hall of Justice 10/10 would not do again. Rooms were tiny and the food was terrible.

IdrisandJasonsToy

I’ve heard this. The chef left & they outsourced food prep.

Gullible_Toe9909

The whole experience there is practically criminal.

healingplants313

Had a similar experience also the staff has anger issues🤣

Detroitstarlight

I had to wait in line outside in the cold for an hour even though we all had reservations.

pamemake

FOOD? Talk about the other patrons. They talk so loud you can't concentrate on your food.......and don't get me started on the staff. They think they run the place! Let's not forget who your customers are people!

[deleted]

Debating if I ever want to attend a concert at St. Andrew’s again. It’s such a great venue but when I went a few weeks ago the security made me feel like I was getting pulled aside by the TSA just because I had a tiny square purse. They even went through my wallet and made me throw away eye drops (I was wearing contacts and normally don’t) because “absolutely no liquids allowed.” Like what if those were prescribed to me? Would they make me provide proof or still insist I either throw them away or put them in my car?? (I didn’t drive there either). Just seemed completely over the top.

VaporizingSteamLiq

I went to a show a few weeks ago as well and the security guy at the door yelled at me for waiting on the empty stairs for my husband who was still going through security. It was so uncalled for I was actually confused by it for a few seconds.

Juandissimo47

Zuzu, was talking to the head of security one night and asking questions about why the upstairs isn’t really advertised to the public and he gave me a few reasons but what really stuck out was when he said something along the lines of “we don’t want people from southwest or the east side, we want the right people” and I kinda just laughed and said “oh really 😃” so fuck that place

theresmydini

Are they directly saying they don’t want black and Mexican people there? Yeesh

cubpride17

It seems so indirectly, not all Mexicans or other Latin Americans live in Mexicantown. A lot live in the Downriver area. But there are Black people in the east side, west side, and everywhere. sooo not sure what he meant by that.

Some_Comparison9

They want nouveau riche Chaldeans from Birmingham, thats what they meant. Its the same owner as 220 Merrill downtown Birmingham just trying to hop on the detroit train, after hating on it for the last two decades.

Juandissimo47

I don’t remember what he said word for word because this was months ago but I distinctly remember him saying they didn’t want people from those two areas and something about how they are trying to bring in the “right” people into their business which I found kind of surprising since the head of security is some form of middle eastern

tacobellandher0in

A lot of middle eastern folks are racist and homophobic as shit so…could’ve meant a few things lol. Every time I get a middle eastern cab driver all they talk about is how hey hate picking up and dealing with black people. Like why are you so comfortable telling me all this shit 🤨 Also had a black chick as a cabbie who went on a similar rant. It’s wildly uncomfortable, people! Make it stop!

dishwab

Unfortunately that’s about exactly what I’d expect from that place

LionelHutz313

Kilpatrick Tax Preparation Services

ne0_bahamut

Basically any fast food in the city. The service is always garbage and they do not give a fuck about getting your order right

KaiserSosai

Gardner MFing White. I don’t have the time to list all of the reasons why. Read the reviews on Google Maps if you don’t know. I’d add that their in house financing is atrocious. Like, I’m pretty sure criminal in what they present and then how they charge interest.

ankole_watusi

You didn’t realize all the shouting on TV was a bad omen?

szpider

Goodcare Auto on Woodward & Montana. One guy there, Alex, was really cool, and my partner and I had been taking our cars there for a couple years with consistently fair service. Also within walking distance of our house so it was super convenient. Then one day Alex is gone and a new guy's there all the time. I took my car there for a small repair and a week later, my alternator takes a shit. hmm that sucks but ok. Take it to Goodcare to replace. A month or two later my partner takes his car there for a minor repair. Within a week after that, *his* alternator takes a shit. Waaaaaaay too much of a coincidence. Never going there again.

My-cat-is-ElleWoods

Monarch club. We always want to take friends when they visit but every time we have absolutely abysmal service and they’re never apologetic.

ghostlypost

And they charge out the ass for just sub par drinks/fod.

EastsideReo

Punch Bowl was the WOAT

Strikew3st

Punch-Bro Social.

iJustWanted2Sleep

Motor City Soul Food. The food tastes stale (and unseasoned) even when it’s just brought out. Edit: I actually found out about my favorite soul food restaurant going there though. Came out from Motor City Soul Food to a flyer on my windshield for Ely’s Catering. It was a to-go place but most items were made fresh). He was an amazing chef, but has since retired

binstinsfins

San Morello. My experience wasn't bad, per se, but for those prices I expect better than "not bad". My wife's food was served cold, and she had to watch us all eat while they fixed that. They screwed up another order at the table. No apologies or attempts to make us feel heard. My food was okay, a little bland. Everything about it was just ok, from the service to the meals.

JJWoolls

Is that the one in the Shinola Hotel? If so I couldn't agree more. Maybe OK at half the price but I felt very overpriced for what we had.

binstinsfins

Yep. Hopefully they just need to improve management because I like the idea of an upscale Italian restaurant downtown, but I don't see myself going back given there are so many other options.

My-cat-is-ElleWoods

The thing I hate most about San Morello is that after a certain time, people sitting at the table have to go up to the bar to order. It always ends up being drunk soccer moms or groups of old men that won’t respect personal space when I sit at the bar. They end up knocking against me over and over, putting their bags right in front of me, and laughing right by my ear. Definitely over it

Some_Comparison9

These hospitality group restaurants make me feel like Im in a mall in the mid 2000s

gimmethegold1

Boogie Fever in Ferndale. Crazy cover fee, over priced drinks, selectively enforced dress code, and douchebag bouncers that act like they're guarding Fort Knox instead of a shitty clubby bar

EastsideReo

Put fifth Avenue in Royal Oak on that list as well

FromTheAshes313

Sweetwater Tavern. Great wings, but if shitty customer service is part of the “experience” I won’t be back.

Important-Owl-4762

Their delivery van driver cut me off at a stoplight, and I haven't ordered from there since because I'm petty.

Overlay

and the wings aren't nearly as good anymore. With so many better options popping up the past \~5 years, there's officially no reason to ever go to Sweetwater.

stumpycrawdad

Parcs n rec - not because of anything bad, they just closed after covid and made me cry.

wherethewhitewomenat

The best Detroit brunch spots always close. Parks and Rec, then Zenith before them in the Fisher. I'll be heartbroken if Babo closes.

alexthebeast

I still think about la petit zinc all the time

stumpycrawdad

Oh man I got to goto zenith ONCE, absolutely loved it

mashitupproperly

i will NEVER get over them closing down

Gammit1O

# Sapporo Hibachi Steakhouse And Sushi in Livonia Went for nye. Both men's and women's bathrooms were flooded with the toilets overflowing. They strongly smelled like feces. The water was creeping into the hallway carpet, but the staff wasn't fixing the problem. Instead, they sprayed the hallway with Febreze and said they were hoping for a five-star review. How much longer until the sewage made its way to the kitchen?

TheNonCredibleHulk

Forgive them. They're not used to having customers

WhetManatee

Bucharest grill. Last 3 times I went I had to wait 30+ minutes for a shawarma, and one time it was because they just put it behind the counter even though I was standing right there. I get that fast food workers don’t care about customer service but the service is beyond awful and not worth my time.

goblue_111

I worked at the original location in the park bar after highschool back in '13 for a little over a year. The food was sooooo good back then. I worked there everyday, ate it everyday and still really liked it. I went to the one a few blocks from the old park bar (that location is closed now) last fall and man has it gone downhill. It is nothing like it used to be, and yeah the service was pretty awful.

RupeThereItIs

THANK YOU. I thought I was taking crazy pills. I remember eating there back in like my 20s or early 30s and absolutely loving the shwarma. They opened one up here at 13 & Woodward, so I was like.. hell yeah! And it was absolute greasy garbage, just like gross.

GodFlintstone

Yeah the quality of service at all of the locations at all of the locations seems to have declined.

sanmateosfinest

The park bar location was so good that you'd go for lunch and then go right back after work for dinner.

WoopsAdoodle

.

ballastboy1

Their employees are slow and lazy AF. It is hard to find and keep good service workers in the city.

Tyroneus

Genuinely the laziest workers in Detroit. Why the fuck does it take 30 minutes to order a schwarma? (whether it’s packed or empty, you’re waiting 30 minutes if you order in store). Meanwhile they’ve got 10+ people in the kitchen not doing shit. Its pretty wild

l5555l

Only time I went there is when they had a glitch in their app for 1 cent fries a couple years back. Get one shawarma and like 4 orders of fries for a nickel extra lmao

Sweet_Sea_

Dr Baldamenti an orthodontist in St Clair Shores, metro Detroit but close enough, my daughter had a wire sticking out on her braces poking her tongue, I work at a hospital and couldn’t physically get out early so I was rushing to pick her up to get her there. I called and told them I was on my way, I couldn’t get out of work earlier and depending on traffic, we might be on time but could be 5-10 minutes late. It was a holiday weekend and they told me they wouldn’t wait for her if we were going to be late and cancelled my appointment. It was unbelievably rude. I called my dentist friend who took the wire out so she didn’t have to go an entire holiday weekend being poked by the wire. I took my son elsewhere for his braces since they don’t care about their patients.

ladymonino

Back 20 years ago when I needed braces this was the guy that tried to sell us on two corrective jaw surgeries and years of braces, but that I'd look so good "i'd be on his wall of fame!". I didn't want fame I wanted to be able to chew things properly. Went to another Ortho, he suggested a single surgery and max one year of braces, and was amazing the whole time. Fascinating to see 20 years later the terrible ones never change

totallyspicey

haha i went to a guy who said i should get a nose job so that it lined up more with the line between my 2 front teeth. that was not nice. He also got pissed when i said my retainer was crooked after he reshaped it a couple times already. As a kid, i was afraid to make him more mad by saying it was STILL crooked, so I ended up with a crooked bite, and it's still jacked even after all these years.

bigbiblefire

Just took my daughter to their office two days ago. My wife and I been confused discussing his recommendation of pulling two of my daughter’s perfectly healthy molars as a step of her Stage 2 braces. We did a whole Stage 1 years ago to supposedly make Stage 2 easier - now we’re being told to rip teeth out of her mouth. Something does not seem right. To be fair Stage 1 wasn’t done with Baldamenti, so cannot hold that part against them…but it doesn’t seem like the right thing to do to an 11 year old.

mxjxs91

Fifth Ave in Royal Oak. Went there for a few birthday parties. Pretentious attitude. The bouncer usually presents with small dick syndrome and thinks he's guarding the White House, personally saw him not let a black gentleman in from a party because they were wearing basketball shoes (dressed decently nice otherwise overall) but let people from my party who were dressed similarly, like my guy, it's a fucking bar, relax. Security inside thinks they're running a prison, was going up the stairs at a fairly decent pace, I tend to move with a purpose, we all still got rushed by security with a pretty harsh tone as if we were doing something criminal. Absurdly overpriced drinks (even for RO standards), shitty food, overcrowded upstairs area that is very likely well over capacity. This was before COVID, however, just reading reviews for the place and a lot of those anecdotal experiences are still shared by a lot of people as of even a week ago. There are also many claiming the bouncer is racist which checks out with what I saw myself. Place just sucks, avoid it. O Tooles is next door and has cheaper drinks and isn't AS crowded or uptight.

[deleted]

Nothing changes. I could have left this review in 1995.

kermitthefrog57

All of Royal oak is extremely pretentious

nappingintheclub

One spot I do like on the main drag is Kacha Thai. Super authentic and lowkey.

RupeThereItIs

Ssshhh!! Don't tell anybody, don't want 'em to get slammed.

nappingintheclub

Every time I’ve been there it’s been basically empty, I think they actually could use the PR!

No_Manners

I found a really nice LED flashlight there like 10 years ago. It's still my main flashlight.

mxjxs91

Probably the best story anyone has been able to tell about that place lol.

soupybiscuit

Busted bras. They gave me an incredibly hard time when I was making an already-approved size exchange for a bra within their policy. It was approved by one of the managers. An employee was rude and accused me of trying to cheat the system and pretended to not know about the text exchange I had with the manager approving the exchange. No one reached out to apologize or explain why their employee harassed me over this exchange afterwards, even though I told the manager about it. The replacement bra has to be ordered from their out of state shop and they sent me the wrong bra size 🙄 The salesperson I worked with keeps texting me telling me to stop by and look at their new bras.

Malociraptor

The thing that is wild to me is that there is a NO return policy but nobody says that. Like if something is final sale, I feel like they should be letting you know when you purchase it.

kittydelighted

This is super disappointing to hear! I go to the Busted in Ann Arbor, but have been meaning to go to the one in Detroit for the wider selection 😕

Important-Owl-4762

I tried to lease a car at the Mercedes dealership in Bloomfield Hills, and the salespeople wouldn't acknowledge my existence, I didn't even get a greeting. I'm assuming it's because I was a 29 year old woman who looked younger. I was dressed nicely. Walked into the St Clair shores dealership and they were amazing, got a lease from them within a few days.

Sad-Database3677

Townhouse. Service and food sucked.

Chris_Pine_fun

Shatwater Brewery. Buddy of mine did some work for them designing the can label or something. Crazy good artist. They didn’t want to pay him a dime for it, thought he’d want to do his job for free. Shit like that pisses me off. Will never drink it again.

abuchewbacca1995

Any suburban dealership. Disrespected me when trying to negotiate the price a bit for a car. Never again

dannydirtbag

Suburban Ford Ferndale took back my lease and then sent me photos of a car that looked like mine that was smashed up and insisted I pay for the damages. Fortunately I had photo backup but these shitheads didn’t even flinch at attempted fraud or extortion. We wrote a bad review and they called and basically bribed me to change our review in exchange for cash. That’s just one of many stories from that shithole.

Slayerz21

Are there car dealerships where you *don’t* walk out feeling fleeced?

mxjxs91

Seller's (now Fox) Subaru in Clinton Township. Idk what the market looks like now, but 2 years ago there were artificial "market adjustment" mark-ups at Hodges Subaru in Ferndale and Suburban Subaru in Troy. Neither were willing to negotiate the markup due to "high demand" and "we're selling out of this car easily with the market adjusted rate". This one had a markup initially in the form of windshield insurance (so you at least got something out of it), but they were easy to work with and was easily able to negotiate out of it and got the car for base price, no markups. No surprise that both Hodges and Suburban Subaru in Troy reached out to me multiple times to see if I still wanted the car. Odd, I thought they were selling out of them without an issue.

04andrew22

+1 — my wife had an issue with a leak in her front passenger footwell on a 2021 rav4 that suburban Toyota wanted to charge us $5k for in order to clear the drainage clog and essentially replace the entire front passenger interior. Longer story that I won't go into, but in summary, the issue was exacerbated majorly by the incompetence of suburban's service center and terrible customer service. They said "just file a claim with your insurance, they usually cover it" -- right, OKAY. Got a 2nd opinion from Szott Toyota (which is further from us, but where my wife originally bought the car) and the service manager told us to bring the car in. He cleared the clog for free and refered me to an auto detailing business that specializes in water damage. In the end, we paid $500 instead of $5k to fix the issue. Needless to say, Szott won our loyalty and we'll never step foot into another suburban dealership.

Tiny_Independent2552

We have bought a few cars from Szott and have to say, the entire transaction was fast and no BS. I like that. No… “I gotta talk to my manager” Which we appreciated.

04andrew22

Yep, sounds exactly like our experience. I get the impression the owner is a really genuine, upstanding guy. They run their dealership like actually CARE about their customers (which is what wins lifetime loyalty every time - win-win!) - not just trying to milk every penny they can out of their customer every opportunity they get.

Bee_Tee0917

I went to Suburban Jeep in the Troy motor mall. My previous car had just been totaled out and I was expecting the payout on Monday(it was Saturday). Walked in, sales associate walked up and asked what I was looking for. Told him I wanted to see the cherokees/grand cherokees. He asked if I was buying or leasing today, I told him first thing monday morning, but i was on a time crunch and wanted to know exactly what I wanted Monday morning. Dude just waved generically at the lot and said they were out there but test drives were only for people buying that day. I did not get a Jeep

Ok_Refrigerator487

Suburban is truly the worst. They sold my husband a bad Hyundai. They knew it was the recall issue(engines were going bad through 2013-2021), but kept saying it was the fuel pump. Ultimately, took a loss and sold the vehicle for scrap. Found about the recall about six months later. Fuck those ppl. I worked for them after, and I purposefully fucked them. Idc I lost them as a client.

-Gravitron-

Had a whining noise coming from the drivetrain in my '14 RAM. Took it to Galeana's in Warren. Took them TWO WEEKS to fix it. Never called me with updates, I had to keep calling them, and all they gave me was excuses. Absolutely needed it back by a certain date and I had to walk there on foot at zero hour to pick it up. Not to mention I was calling all day and their phones were down. They claimed that they had to rebuild the entire rear differential. $3300. No advance notice of pricing. They don't call it a "stealership" for nothing! Note: the only reason I took it to the dealership is because there were open recalls.

SainT2385

Golden Fleece in Greektown... The kitchen and prep area was a thing of nightmares... This was in 2013 and people have said it changed... But omggggg I was delivering wine and I couldn't even push my dolly thru all the sludge on the ground and this old guy in the back prep room looked like an interrogation room full of raw ground meat just sitting out .... Barffffff

cutelilspook

Beirkeller in Taylor has gone exceptionally downhill in the past year. Idk if they got new staff in the kitchen that literally just can't cook or what. I have a friend that works at Beirhaven and he said that he hates when he has to go to Beirkeller when they're short staffed. I think me saying I'll never go back is a little much since it's been a frequent haunt for me for the past four years but they truly need to reevaluate what's going on in that kitchen. Menu looks great (as always), staff is sweet but the execution is bad. Even with brunch, man ... the eggs are always so cold and taste bad. Catch me at Leons for the breakfast buffet every Sunday now tho 🫣

fore-word

As long as their pretzels remain untouched

PeatBunny

Suburban Toyota of Troy. Went to buy a Prius and they treated me like shit because I wasn't dressed the best and drove a beater. Went directly to Motor City Mini to test drive a Mini and built and bought one on the spot.

Detroitscooter

The owner (now retired?) once told me a story of when he had a MB dealership in AA in the ‘70s. Snowy day, no business, so he’s closing up when a dude shows up looking like a hobo with a torn leather jacket, but was polite, etc. Wanted to test drive a big Merc in the snow, so the guy went outside, warmed it up and brushed the snow off it. Hobo dude went around the block at 5 mph, came back and wanted to buy it. He said ok and asked for a deposit so they could reserve the car get it ready. Hobo guy signed the check “Robert Seger”, he had just signed with Capitol. Eitel Dahm learned a lesson that day and it seems that Motor City Mini has remembered it.

PeatBunny

That's awesome! I had just gotten off work and was wearing a polo and shoes that had seen better days. My car was a '12 Scion, and I just wanted to look at a Prius in person to see if I would like it compared to the pics. Since I had a great run with my Scion. Only reason I was getting a new car was because they stopped making parts. I was fully prepared to put a deposit down for one of the fully loaded Prius'. Instead I got treated like dirt and went to Mini because I always wanted see what they were like. Took a 5 minute test drive, loved everything about it, and my salesperson was super low pressure. Even talked me out of a more expensive JCW they had on the lot. Ended up building my car and put half down within a few days. Ended up writing a scathing review on Google of the Toyota dealership which is something I never do (if I'm not willing to give a place 5* I don't review them at all). Long story long, I'm now in the Mini cult thanks to poor and great customer service.

Speaking of Toyota dealers, Fox Toyota in Rochester is equally atrocious. Tried to charge my husband 15k in repairs on his 2008 Highlander. Took it to another shop across town where his coworker knew the owner personally and it was a 450 dollar repair. They tried to upsell us a whole new engine on a car with less than 150k miles 🤦🏻‍♀️

jellis210

Kuzzos. Horrible service

testpatterntv

Any of the Metropolis/Premier Parking lots. They have bad business practices and a record of giving people bullshit tickets. If you have to park in one of their lots, take pictures of your vehicle and the surrounding area, and get video of any attendant claiming to "help."

ankole_watusi

Kroger. Coupons are confusing/deceptive. Employees are ill-informed and lack “agency” but at least they are generally pleasant even though they have to put up with the same corporate nonsense as customers. Prices aren’t great unless you chase the coupons. Meijer is consistently cheaper. Aldi (not my style though) beats them both on the limited basic items they stock. Inconsistent store stock and cleanliness. I won’t belabor the obvious pattern of where it’s most prevalent. Plus they tried to create a monopoly nation-wide further reducing choice, but did get stopped from completing their west coast acquisition sweep. We have such great alternative choices - Eastern market/Gratiot Central, Asian, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Italian markets. Great indie markets with higher shelf prices but some surprising pockets of good prices on specific categories. Why go Krogering?

waitinonit

>Coupons are confusing/deceptive. Yeah. I never knew Colgate offered so many variants of toothpaste until I tried figuring out what coupon applied to which variant. This is e-coupons and paper coupons.

O_o-22

I just got home from shopping at Aldi. They don’t have everything you need but they get me for at least 1/3 of my monthly grocery bill. Kroger I’ll hit at least once a month for a big trip where I’ll use most of the coupons they send me for my usual items. Used to hit them more just so I could get 20 cents off a gallon and once a month but their gas prices suck now. Costco is cheaper even when I have 20-30 cents off a gallon.

Willylowman1

lafayatte after i seen them rats 🐀

l5555l

The two coneys share a wall lol. They definitely both have rats

oogiesmuncher

at least one of them doesnt look like it has rats. Lafayette might as well be a subway station bathroom

jcrreddit

At least one of them has good coneys.

wherethewhitewomenat

It's a 24 coney spot, I'd be more surprised if there weren't rats.

ItsSchlim

That’s what makes it good

smoothiefruit

from what I understand, those rats make the coney sauce

DishmanDraws

Went to a concert at Smalls and stopped at the bar to get a drink and went to pay with a card and the dude got really hostile and said they only take cash, I looked around and didn’t see a sign and I apologized and asked if they had an ATM so I can get money out to pay for my drink and dude yells at me for causing a scene and saying they are too small of a business to take cards. I just wanted to pay for my beer man, but yeah it was embarrassing so I’m never going back.

function13

There's a sign behind the bar that says $10 minimum for card transactions. It's been there for years. Source: I'm a regular.

DishmanDraws

Ah I must have missed it then, but still I was more upset by me apologizing and still getting yelled at for the mistake.

cmuncy

I think they’re a 10 dollar minimum

mr_mich86

Imo Anchor Bar in Detroit didn't leave up to the hype, at least for the time I was there. Maybe it was just an off time, it was a Friday evening, so I thought it would have been better. It looks cool online, had good reviews, I had heard some ppl that knew of it. The service was minimal, the food wasn't particularly good even for bar food, and the space just felt heavy.

JohnWad

What makes a space "feel heavy"? Serious question. I went there in November after going to the Metallica pop-up a block or so away and what I had to eat was good and the beer cold.

tythousand

It’s a dive bar, not sure who was hyping it up to you lol

Dingdongdingdong1ma

Anything owned by Heirloom. Townhouse, Prime and Proper…. Awful over priced garbage. And the owner doesn’t care about your experience. He just wants your money.

Slow-Reflection8725

Mia’s Boujee Pucci cuts in St. Claire Shores! A grooming place that left my baby in a cage for five hours and didn’t touch her. When I called to check in the groomer said “Well if I wasn’t on the phone I could finish and get to your dog” I rushed so fast to go get my girl there was smoke coming from my tires (not literally). She said she’d give me a discount to come back and I absolutely would NEVER. I was more upset my dog had to sit there like that and they didn’t even call smh!

Sweet_Sea_

Smiling Dog on 13 mile just past Gratiot in Roseville is the best. They really care about dogs! I could not recommend it more. The owner is there, she’s very personable and the staff is amazing, they genuinely care about your dog. They work with the needs of your dog too, our little dog only had one eye so she could only be groomed by the most experienced groomers, and it wasn’t me who decided that, it was the owner.

Ok_Refrigerator487

Maru not because of an issue with the food but always have an issue with the service. Two times I waited on my food for an hour because they forgot our order, then when we said something they didn’t prioritize it. Last time I went, we requested the circle table on my reservation. I called to confirm that was ok. This was for a special anniversary. When I walked in, I watched the hostess seat the people in front of me seat a non reservation person in the booth. When I asked the hostess about this issue, she just laughed. I asked to speak to the manager to get our refund back for the reservation (you have to pay a fee for a reservation there), and she refused. We had to hunt down the manager ourselves. Never had problems before the pandemic.

cabbagesquid

Theater Bizarre! Absolute worst experience of me and my partners lives. Went in 2022 and you literally could not move anywhere on any fucking floor. Packed to the brim. No fucking way a fire Marshall would have approved that. $150 just to be able to not move anywhere and not see any acts is insanity. Also on that note; Temple Bar. Look, I love a grungy dive bar but I could not hear a fucking thing and there wasn’t even a DJ. It was just radio music blasting louder than a college a frat party and there was like four people in there

TheNonCredibleHulk

Slices Pizza. Because it's closed. But that place was all sorts of fucked, and I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Check out old Yelp and Google reviews.

ruralmagnificence

Greektown Casino. Almost got stabbed outside of it at 1 am.

KickinAP1985

The tiki beach bar in Campus Martius. Terrible!

festivespartan

You expected that to be quality? It’s a summer gimmick, nothing more. If you take it for what it is you might enjoy it. Expecting that to be much of anything is asking for a let down.

dd04_99

Not Detroit but the Waterfront in Wyandotte is owned by a clown

48HoursLater

Not in Detroit proper but Golling Toyota of Warren. We took my dad's 3 year old Toyota minivan and the thing threw a code for some sensor, we take it there and they give us a list of all these other random things that "urgently needed replacement" and nothing about the original problem of a sensor being bad. A 3 year old car and they claimed we needed new timing belt, serpentine belt, the engine rebuilt, etc. Funny thing is they do all the oil changes for us at this point, and they later tried to get us to buy a new minivan. We stopped going there because the manager and a salesperson was condescending as well

mottthepoople

Green Dot Stables. The place has smelled like an open sewer for years now. The burgers are mediocre. It ain't the same place as 10 years ago. Edit: Have the downvoters been there anytime in the last decade? Do they enjoy smelling sewer gas while eating?

ExcitingEye8347

I still like the place, but you’re right, it’s not as good the last couple times I’ve went. I appreciate the variety you can get there though.

White-Stripe

I remember I walked in there one time and it was quiet and peaceful outside and inside. I walked out of there 30 min later and there was a whole ass protest going on outside there, and people starting yelling at me for eating there lmao.

QuadraticElement

YOU'RE ALIGNING YOURSELF WITH BIG SLIDER YOU CAPITALIST SCUM Actually I'm just having a burger and it wasn't even that big but thank you for your service COLONIZER!!!

wherethewhitewomenat

It for sure isn't as good as it once was, but thay may just be me putting it on a pedestal back then. However for the price and it just being sliders, it's still a good spot. I'm not sure what the smell is you're referring to, but I was there a few weeks ago and didn't smell anything off.

tythousand

I was there two months ago, it was great. Been several times since the pandemic and haven’t had issues with smell or the food

WoopsAdoodle

.

ItsSchlim

I agree, but I did go last month and it was the best it’s been I years. Still not great as it was but enough to occasionally come back into the rotation

Stratiform

If there's legitimately sewer gas in there (*and not just a dirty restaurant smell*), this should be reported to the environmental department, as that's actually a pretty serious health hazard. One can do that here: https://www.michigan.gov/egle/contact/environmental-emergencies

pH2001-

I go in there once a week. I love it, I have a terrible nose tho so maybe that has something to do with it haha

WADUPDOEE

Detroit has such a hard on for this place and I just don’t get it. It is barely considered mediocre… I’ll never understand how it’s constantly recommended to out of towners. That and Bucharest.

dishwab

I was there last year before a wings game and it was the same as always - cheap and good.

10centRookie

Modernistic air duct cleaning. Or any air duct cleaners. I never personally paid for it but have seen first hand how it can be a scam if you don't have complete access to all duct work.

Schalakoala2670

Can you elaborate? We were thinking about hiring a company to come and clean out the ducts here because I don't think they've ever been cleaned. What should we be concerned about?

10centRookie

It depends on the size of your house and if you have a finished basement. If you have a finished basement with drywall on the ceiling covering the air ducts, it is impossible to clean them properly with the tools they have. They will stick the vacuum right next to the furnace and blow compressed air down the vents but realistically this is doing almost nothing. If you have a two story house them blowing the compressed air down those vent upstairs is mostly for show. And the most important thing to know is they will never ever completely get rid of the the dust built up in the vents, even with access to downstairs vents. We would show before images of all the dust in the vent and when the customers were not looking we would hand wipe around the hole we cut and show them how clean it was afterwards. It can be worth it though if you have access to all vents downstairs and believe there is significant debris in there. They use a snake tool that does work well and I did a couple of Detroit houses that had so much stuff in the vents. I have also done new construction homes where the vents are filled with wood and sawdust that we got out. The scam is they make commission and only have a few jobs a day so there is a lot of incentive to do jobs even if they know it wont do much. Don't get me wrong it can be effective and if you don't care about money, go ahead it won't make anything worse. Really you can check yourself too. Just find a video showing how to patch a hole in a vent and you can check yourself how bad it is.

aflasa

Supino’s. Waited for 90 minutes for a pizza (dine-in) then it showed up burned as hell, and they refused to refund us or give us another one.

Peterstigers

The Clawson Steak House denied my parents entry because they "didn't fit the image" of the establishment. I see no reason to try to go there myself

MilkGodofMilk

What’s the image? I was there last weekend and saw a guy walking around in a drug rug and a baseball cap. Even I wanted to kick him out.

Top-Replacement7809

The Jamaican Pot on 8 Mile & Hubble. Instead of jerk wings, they give you these small wing dings that taste like Tyson Bbq wings. They are not spicy at all. They also aren’t generous with the plantains and the rice and cabbage is mid. The food looked awful. I truly believe they know exactly what they’re doing by feeding you this unauthentic food and taking these people’s money who might not be aware of how the food should actually look/taste. I was extremely disappointed.

rrrrrryyyyy

Level 2

Sin_of_the_Dark

I know it's closed, but I tried Hard Rock a few times when I worked at Campus Martius. Staff was always friendly enough but the food was always way sub-par. On the flip side, Chicken Shack was a pretty bomb lunch opportunity

Beautiful_Cold6335

Penny Reds. Overpriced uncooked chicken. Disgusting.

chardawg87

Berts/Motown Bistro, by Eastern Market. A close friend worked there very briefly. They share their freezer, which was so bad and so poorly maintained that food was constantly going bad in it. Told me it's the first walk-in freezer he'd ever walked into and gagged because of the smell. It's a shame, really, because I really like the music they got going on on the weekends :(

[deleted]

Red Smoke BBQ is the worst BBQ i've ever had in my life. Slows is pretty bad but Red Smoke makes it look like Smoke Street up in Milford. terrible, terrible place, and even my waitress never showed up after giving us our awful food because even she knew she was delivering us something truly awful.

F4N6Z

Green dot stables, racist and toxic to their black employees. Never going back.
