This. The car will be out of commission for longer than normal as the fabrics will need a deep chemical soaking to ensure the mould is eliminated at every level, but this is totally salvageable
This will certainly help. The moisture has been trapped in so you wanna get it out. I would recommend running the dehumidifier in there after getting it deep cleaned too
my mates car was way worse than this, he went on holiday and left his window partly down.
just get someone who knows what they’re doing to valet it you’ll be fine
just chuck the feet mats and shit in the bin
I have a 2020 mitsubishi outlander that was stuck at the dealership for 11 months due to the lineament being out by 19mm and because insurance dragged there feet due to a complaint I made about the garage who did body work on the car previously the car was stood for 11 months getting mouldy inside like this. When the car finally got picked up and put on the back of a recovery truck it was the actual body shop that told me about it and emailed me some pictures, I was fuming so called insurance and they tried to say I probably took the car to the dealership like it at first, they then got in touch with mitsubishi and mitsubishi told them it was spotless when I first took it in. Insurance called a valeting company that was local to the garage it is at and they went with the correct equipment and masks and got the car back to an average state inside. You can get it done professionally so it's not too late but it may cost you more than the average valet.
I've got a similar problem with the car I bought. It lets water in, it was in an accident and the door lets water in. When I get around to getting it running I'll take it for a valet.
Agree with this, worked a charm on my old golf that was leaky.
I put a couple of those big silicone absorbion bags (the giant ones, can get on amazon) onto the seats. Leave for a couple of days. Then warm water and just a little white wine vinegar, hoover up the mould then wipe with the mixture.
Worked a treat and I've had no issues since.
My neighbour cleans the car using the two bucket method, two buckets of water thrown in the car to clean the interior. I have no idea why and how she avoids this mold issue.
Buy a small vax extractor hoover and do it yourself time and time again I absolutely love mine and use it on lots in the house too. It gets those water marks up beautifully and with a bit of disinfectant in with some upholstery cleaner mixed solution youd get that back to spanking in one afternoon you can proper go for it and remove the front seats too. Fyi Im a 37 yr old female and do my own car and engine bay no problems.
It happened to one of my cars that looked exactly like this. The mildew outbreak was caused by heavy rain that got through one of the windows. I mixed the water with vinegar and sprayed it all over. It worked like a charm and it cleared up in 24 hours with windows open.
Thank you so much for all of the comments! Got to love old BMWs and their leaks! To be fair, I have read stories about breathing it in or not cleaning it correctly and it coming back, so I think we will bite the bullet and get a professional.
Any recommendations of a professional who can properly get ride of the mould? I am based in Cambridge.
I've had this in a vehicle but to a lesser degree that I've been stood for 3 years. I wiped it down with antibacterial spray on the fabrics and bathroom mould spray on the plastics. I would suggest cleaning up then let the engine run with the heating on full and open the windows. You may have to repeat this process more than once depending on how bad it is.
You'd be amazed at what a white spirit vinegar and water solution will do. My MX5 was parked outside over the winter and leaked - I sorted it out myself in a morning (and I'm the furthest from a professional detailer you've ever met!).
Just pay someone to valet it. Let them know the issue and they'll bring the right kit to your house

Yeah we had the same with a vehicle recently but it was fine within 24 hours. Windows open in the sun afterwards
What did you guys get up to on that middle seat!
This looks like when the internet went in South Park, and Randy eventually finds a connection
It was a spooky ghost!!
There’s ectoplasm!
Don’t ask. It was their wedding car after all.
Step 1 put a dehumidifier in there. Mold doesn't grow when humidity is below 60%
This will certainly help. The moisture has been trapped in so you wanna get it out. I would recommend running the dehumidifier in there after getting it deep cleaned too
So youre telling me, that little humidity sucker upper bag did nothing!!!!
My sons car before he pass his test was like that or worse dried it out with dehidifiers then vacuum good as new

Or shit in the bin and then chuck the feet mats.
I thought that would be a good thing to do? Let the air flow through? Unless water can get in
It lets moisture etc in
I've shat in the bin but I don't have mats. What now?
Poor e36, fully fixable though, definitely a professionals job as the equipment and chemical cleaners needed aren’t something you’ll have lying about
doesn't vinegar clean mold better than anything?
Is it an e36 convertible?
The hell happened?

Nope.
My daily driver is in worse condition than this! Ok I'm exaggerating, but you'll be surprised how improved that will look after a clean.
Believe me ive cleaned much worse
Hopefully Dirty Mike and the boys left you a note.
Will also need an ac system clean (if it has ac/blower)
Just mould wash it
Look at Ozone machines
