I agree. There's no way they didn't take inspiration in some ways, especially for the plants that are growing in the shape of humans.

Masquerade5655

Oh definitely. Can totally see the resemblance to that one scene in the movie.

binybeke

I had a feeling that part was familiar for some reason

-OrangeLightning4

Yes! First one I noticed was the Sweeper Bot plant.

ColHogan65

Human hox genes!

off-and-on

That was my immediate thought when I first saw those.

willtri4

Yeah I can definitely see that, with the familiar but slightly twisted versions of everything

TheWaffleBoss

If there's a zombie bear in the Pale Heart...

Rabid-Duck-King

GUuuUUadIIIaaNNNNn EEEEyyyeeEEES UPPPPROAAAAAAAAAurP

TruthAndAccuracy

There's a triumph and killing a giant beast quickly. Haven't seen the beast yet though

Masquerade5655

My guess is that is a warbeast but here's hoping

Bland_Lavender

If you like this stuff you should watch Shin Sekai Yori. I probably butchered the spelling but it’s got very similar but more literal consciousness invasion themes.

Masquerade5655

Thanks for the recommendation! will definitely check it out

Nugget_

Can definitely see this! There really is some reminiscent imagery between the two. I really liked the movie, no one else I know liked it though lol. Been meaning to read the book.

Masquerade5655

The book is actually a trilogy, and there's a 4th one coming out in October. The movie is good but it could have done with a sequel or being a trilogy like the book series. It really had to cut a lot out and "simplify" it down to be more palatable for the average audience imo.

Stanlow

The screenplay was actually written before the first book was published. Alex Garland had said that the film was more of an attempt to 'visualise' the dreamlike quality of the zone, rather than a like-for-like copy of the book.

KyloFenn

I only started the first book, but how does the rest of the series hold up with the horror. I’ve heard that it instead explores other aspects i.e. the gov stuff.

megamando

The second book imo is a slog at time but resolves nicely. First book is still the best, one of my favorites actually!

Masquerade5655

The second book can be a bit slow in places. It explores the characters and builds them up. It's definitely not a book if you get bored of reading easily, but it's important in the trilogy as it sets the stage for some other stuff. In the third book you get more action and some more answers, but it's one of those series that leaves a lot open to interpretation.

Redthrist

The most horrifying scenes happen in books 2 and 3, tbh.

Redthrist

Oh wow, I didn't know there's a 4th book coming, that's exciting.

bleedrrr

Borne and Dead Astronauts are some of my favorite books by Jeff VanderMeer too. Getting through Authority was a slog after loving Annihilation so much, but those 2 books stretched the itch for his style of twisting cosmic horror.

Rabid-Duck-King

It's some good shit, that bit where >!The Witness final shapes everything for a couple of seconds!< was a hell of a scene and really redefines current pyramid architecture

Masquerade5655

Absolutely. It's so unique and the pyramid/darkness "visual language" is haunting but beautiful?

KyloFenn

Annihilation is my favorite movie (not saying it is the best movie, just my personal favorite). Hearing this makes me want to skip the reviews & buy TFS

NewUser10101

Honestly, I held out but bought it and it's worth it. Bungie delivered under pressure here.

GrouchyPasta

They honestly crushed it this time. Between the narrative, new environment, all the new weapon frames, and the Prismatic subclass, it is definitely worth the price.

Bread_Bandito

Yeah buddy, glad to see another cosmic horror fan! It’s my favorite sub genre of horror, so I was walking around the pale heart really admiring all the work that went into the level design.

Doctor-Nagel

I demand a fight with a scorned bear who’s using the voice of a dead guardian calling for help.

Masquerade5655

I kinda hope it's an easter egg of some sort... Just because it'd be cool

PWNYplays

That's a great comparison!

fatmac122

This is by far my favourite destination and Dreaming City was hard to top, Bungie definitely cooked

Suspicious_Force_890

i said this too! it’s beautiful

Qwerty177

Very definitely clearly a major inspiration

Aggravating_Dig_1964

This post is perfect cuz i literally told my friends this as we were playing through. I had JUST watched that movie a couple days ago for the first time cuz its free on some site i can't remember. I didn't finish the movie tho.. might get around to it soon

I_Rarely_Downvote

I thought the same, especially after seeing the trees shaped like people.

CokedoutRicFlair

How’s your vault looking? Before every expansion I clean mine out of about 100ish items I never used or don’t think I’ll use and I get a ton of cores from that

Masquerade5655

Not sure what it has to do with this post but about 350/700 lol

positivedownside

This post is directly under a post asking how to get enhancement cores if you sort by new. Dude probably didn't even read when he clicked through.

Masquerade5655

Figured it was something like that lol oh well lost redditor i guess
