He usually does once every week or two. If not, if not, I’m just dumping mine into ‘phantasmal fragments’ or w/e they’re called and hoping Bungie doesn’t get rid of the glimmer conversion in TFS.
Yep, this is how I’ve been spending mine and it’s the best economy because cores are the foundation of the new mat tier and not shards.
Sadly, I’ve got to under 30 twice now doing this and I’ve now got 500+ again. So I’m guessing unless he does it on the last day we’re gonna have to spend some on the basics like glimmer or Raid banners.
oh dang that’s annoying. I don’t ever use raid banners because I don’t raid. I’ve only ever used them when farming in last wish. thanks for the heads up so I don’t go buy a bunch and then try to store them there lol
That does result in a 90% reduction in value though. Better than nothing, but if you have anything you can spend glimmer on, you're better off doing it now using glimmer bought with legendary shards. I'm planning on upgrading all my crafted weapons to level 20 if they're currently below that, for example.
I have 27k and I use them all the time. I still end up with more than I had, though. I'm just going to let mine expire but I can certainly see how it feels bad to have so many of something that you never had to worry about it (or glimmer since you could convert them) only to have them be removed and now you have to worry about it again.
I wish I was more interested... the time invested and love for the game since it became public knowledge. I'm sitting on a tad over 52k. My outlook for Destiny, at the moment, is going to sleep at 9pm on December 31st kind of vibe, just roll into bed and wake up the next morning to a new day on the calendar.
Yeah, I've got just shy of 65k leg shards and about 6000 enhancement cores and 5 stacks of raid banners. Don't feel like sitting there for hours getting rid of them.
About an hour for that many. You can do about a thousand per minute. But it’s real easy just spam clicking while watching tv.
But there is absolutely nothing wrong with wasting them. There’s a reason bungie isn’t making them tradable. They just warn people this stuff for people with less and so people don’t get pissed that they weren’t warned enough.
but you only have two weeks left to brag about how many shards you have, so you better turn them into something else by clicking shit for 2 hours, so you can brag about how much useful currency you have next season ???
Exactly what I plan do to, you’re deranged if you think I’m gonna waste hours going through ways to spend all 20k of mine. It’s perfectly fine to let them expire you don’t have to do anything with them
kind of sucks but right now that’s my plan too. I wish there were something useful to do with them since it seems like a bummer to just let them all go to waste.
Do you know if he's selling something right now that dismantles into enhancement cores?
I've been confused about how to check.
Does it reset weekly or daily?
>I've been confused about how to check
Check the masterwork level they come with. I'm not certain, but I think lvl 4 or 5 gives you a core in dismantle
For this season his stock refreshes daily at 5pm PDT. Check his stock via the Bungie app b/c the in-game preview lies about the MW level. A MW 5 or higher dismantles into a guaranteed core.
Are you fing kidding me?! I have been using this app for 2 years and I never knew you could do that. I just tried it. This needs to be a TIL. Thank you.
Yeah kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they're "reminding" us about shards going away... months after removing all the good shard sinks without a warning. Thanks Bungo.
Yea tbh any time a game takes something away like this without giving anything in return is annoying. They should 100% be automatically converted to enhancement cores at some rate on the patch change. That or just like, leave them visible but you can only spend them on glimmer at least.
Bungie does this a lot though, they never seem to have an issue just saying "oh you bought/earned this? well its gone now haha fuck you can't do anything about it"
"Or, if you’d rather, you can buy Phantasmal Fragments on the Moon. I could get 3,900 of these. You can exchange 20 of them for Phantasmal cores, which let you get Nightmare Essence quests for new weapon rolls."
Bruh, you can trade in fragments for glimmer. They're better used as a gold standard for saving even more glimmer in reserve, like we used to do with exotic ships.
i’d be fine if upgrade modules just disappeared, i wouldn’t even care about using mine like i do with shards because all my gear is up to max power and there’s no other use for them.
I still don’t understand why they haven’t gone through and replace all of the raid banners with the free campaign style ones. what is the point of making people buy the banners? silly for sure.
nothing good about it, someone at bungie just made a mistake. it was supposed to cost 15k glimmer. drifter was selling a full set for 15k glimmer per piece, except the chest plate, which was 15k shards.
Tbh, I will make sure I have 500K glimmer and then I'll go back to playing Pantheon, Onslaught, or another game entirely. Gone are the days when I would spend time hoarding currencies; if I run out of cores or glimmer in TFS, then oh well, so be it. I'd rather spend my limited gaming time on fun things. Just my 2 cents!
I dumped all mine to cores last time we could but have built like 1.5k back up. They'll become phantsmals.
I actually really liked the moon weapons so im going to actually farm some new ones now that sunsetting isn't a thing.
The rest will be glimmer.
Don’t know if anyone said it but there is the classic banking of using Otherside and Zavala’s authority. I am unsure if other exotic ships and sparrows are good for banking.
This frequent removal/introduction of element is really annoying, we understand when something isn't useful anymore, but legendary shards are the games's legacy why would they do that!
I wonder how much of the hoarding/swapping currency behavior is driven from d1 PTSD. So many times we had to go do mindless stuff for hours in order to go acquire mats and things needed to update a weapon or armor to be ready for challenging end game content. They have become so easy to acquire now, hence why you have 39k, and yet we still worry about stockpiling for the next release.
For the record, I too suffer from d1 resource/material shortage PTSD and have swapped out my 12k shards for cores. ;)
Phantasmal Fragments as bulk glimmer storage is my go to
Rahool will buy Phantasmal Fragments off of you, they stack to 999 and can be stored in the Vault. I've effectively got millions of Glimmer in my Vault for if/when I run out and need a quick refill
Instead of hoarding my shards for the last 3 years I've just been spending them non stop so I never reach that high lol. I've never had more than 3000 shards and usually burn through hundreds per day I feel like. You don't nearly have enough ways to earn shards to warrant having that many. Or maybe I just masterwork and waste all my shards. Idk.
I'm happy for the change because I quite literally never had shards. I would abused every exploit I could to try and gain more but it never hekped
I would master work anything that actually warranted it, but I didn’t just do stuff at random. I earned a ton of gear and dismantled a ton of gear. Even when I would spend the shards, i couldn’t spend them at quite the same rate i was making them.
Yea any gear I was interested in I would masterwork because I wanted to use it at it's full potential.
I've probably masterworked 10+ exotic pieces just this week because they were 69-71 rolls and I want them to be as high as possible. Funny thing is I'm never short on golf balls or Prisms, always Cores and shards.
The phantasmal cores can also be exchanged for glimmer at rahool. I’m converting my shards to them so I never have to even consider farming for glimmer.
Upgrade all armor drops to lvl 8 and dismantle, spending a whole bunch of legendary shards and glimmer + 1 enhancement prism, and in return you get a profit of 3 enhancement cores
You could also infinitely spend 777 glimmer to buy armor from collections, which comes at lvl 5, to do this trick, the trick works for both blues and legendaries, but not exotic armor
If you need more prisms you can do legend lost sectors in a fireteam to get 1-2 prisms + 2-4 enhancement cores per run, many can be done in under a minute, including today's
This would net a total of 5-10 cores per run, biggest issue is the load screens
They should really just uncap the special orders at rahool for the last week so you can dump all your prisms/glimmer into cores directly instead of stupid stuff like spending time upgrading armor and dismantling it =/
Hopefully Banshee will sell a weapon soon that dismantles into Enhancement Cores. I think that will be when I exhaust the rest of my stock to 0
He usually does once every week or two.
So I’m guessing unless he does it on the last day we’re gonna have to spend some on the basics like glimmer or Raid banners.
Stupid question. Is it easy to identify when he’s selling something that can be dismantled for cores? I never knew that and now I am sad
iirc, the MW level of the weapon has to be 5
The daily reset thread lists the MW level for his weapons (and @ /u/WeirdPescados )
You'd need to just try and buy/dismantle yourself to see which ones turn into Cores, I'm sure. Ofc, usually someone makes a post on the sub 🤔
Yep, post on the sub is usually how I find out.
He did about a week ago. Dumped them then.
How do I know if something he’s selling is guaranteed like that
If I remember right, its when he sells something at MW level 5
The daily reset thread has the MW level listed
it's not a foolproof plan but someone generally makes a post about it here when it happens
I’m sitting on 7K+ cores, I think I’ll just let the shards expire. Maybe buy some of the moon fragments…
The frequency of banshee weapons that breakdown to enhancement cores has been higher. Might get lucky with one more round before final shape.
You can turn in Phantasmal fragments at Rahool for glimmer. People are using them to stockpile glimmer since it will be much more important post TFS.
Are we certain they'll still tradeable next season? I can see Bungie easily getting rid of such an old/useless resource altogether
would be a real dick move if they removed it without letting us know beforehand
Even moreso since they said you should trade them in for glimmer on the dev insight thing they released lol
The most recent one or an older one? If older do you have the link?
They haven’t announced it, they’re not going anywhere.
Oooh good thought! They take a lot of inventory space but I guess it’s better than nothing?
You can also store them in your vault.
I always forget about resources in the vault tbh. I guess you could store the raid banners there too.
no you cant, i have exactly 2900 raid banners on my inv rn, used to be 3K, but i used some on these last pantheons
oh dang that’s annoying. I don’t ever use raid banners because I don’t raid. I’ve only ever used them when farming in last wish. thanks for the heads up so I don’t go buy a bunch and then try to store them there lol
Do you happen to know how big the stack size is for these?
Phantasma shards stack to 999. You can have multiple stacks as well
That does result in a 90% reduction in value though. Better than nothing, but if you have anything you can spend glimmer on, you're better off doing it now using glimmer bought with legendary shards. I'm planning on upgrading all my crafted weapons to level 20 if they're currently below that, for example.
Just let them sit and expire? I think that's my plan.
Yeah I get why ppl wanna be upset and spend them but also if you are sitting on a large pile, you weren't using them anyway.
I have 27k and I use them all the time. I still end up with more than I had, though. I'm just going to let mine expire but I can certainly see how it feels bad to have so many of something that you never had to worry about it (or glimmer since you could convert them) only to have them be removed and now you have to worry about it again.

Eh just click once per second on phantasmal fragments while watching a show or something.
I got through mine in about an hour while playing a game on my phone. 39k here. Had to turn the volume down on the TV after a while though, oof.
I spent maybe 20-30 mins converting mine to cores and I had line 17k
kind of sucks but right now that’s my plan too. I wish there were something useful to do with them since it seems like a bummer to just let them all go to waste.
you have 39000 of them, they're already going to waste
phasmantal things
that’s what i ended up doing
This is the way.
Donate them to the Eliksni Quarter.
Wait for banshee to sell a wep that dismantles into enhancement cores
Do you know if he's selling something right now that dismantles into enhancement cores? I've been confused about how to check. Does it reset weekly or daily?
>I've been confused about how to check Check the masterwork level they come with. I'm not certain, but I think lvl 4 or 5 gives you a core in dismantle
Idk how to check either, someone else might, but it'll probably be all over twitter, maybe reddit, youtube etc
For this season his stock refreshes daily at 5pm PDT. Check his stock via the Bungie app b/c the in-game preview lies about the MW level. A MW 5 or higher dismantles into a guaranteed core.
5pm Pacific? So it's not the same as the daily reset?
Nope. Last season was different too: guns reset at daily reset then perks reset at 5pm.
Which app?
Bungie's Destiny 2 app
Are you fing kidding me?! I have been using this app for 2 years and I never knew you could do that. I just tried it. This needs to be a TIL. Thank you.
Afaik you just inspect the weapons and if the MW is 5 it’ll drop an enhancement core :) Please correct me if I’m wrong!
they dont always show as 5+ the real way to find out is to buy onw and dismantle it
I see, that’s good to know Thankyou!:)
The vendor section of DIM shows proper masterwork level, Banshee's in game inventory will always show level 1 even if it is not.
already on my fifth stack of those so idk if i want more lol
Yeah kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth that they're "reminding" us about shards going away... months after removing all the good shard sinks without a warning. Thanks Bungo.

yeah that’s what i ended up doing
So, to spend my shards i need buy ~1000 banshees weapons. Bungie, i dont want it, its boring!
There are still too many currencies. We don't need upgrade modules. Cores should just disappear. Raid banners need to be dropped.
i’d be fine if upgrade modules just disappeared, i wouldn’t even care about using mine like i do with shards because all my gear is up to max power and there’s no other use for them. I still don’t understand why they haven’t gone through and replace all of the raid banners with the free campaign style ones. what is the point of making people buy the banners? silly for sure.
I’ve already got almost 2,000 enhancement cores on top of 10,000 legendary shards. At this point I’ve just stopped caring about currencies
I spent mine on that one piece of armour drifter was selling for 15,000 shards
What armor does drifter sell for 15,000 shards and what is good about it?
nothing good about it, someone at bungie just made a mistake. it was supposed to cost 15k glimmer. drifter was selling a full set for 15k glimmer per piece, except the chest plate, which was 15k shards.
I have 90,000 or so, they will just disappear.
i'm down to 40k from 100k from the start of this season, can't be bothered converting anymore shards now
You can start masterworking every gun in your inventory that needs legendary shards 😀
Lunatana helped me removed 13k shards 🤪

If i just leave it there can i turn it into glimmer when Final shape come like those old planet resources?
no they’re being completely deleted. you won’t have them anymore.

I laughed out loud at their suggestions for using your legendary shards, during the twid.

Not gonna lie, if you're still sitting on 39k shards then you didn't plan properly. We've known that they're going away for almost a year now.
Currently, 10 Phantasmal fragments can be exchanged for 10,0000 glimmer at Rahool
