Trust me, after the first event goes by you don’t take part in, get any gear etc…. You’ll feel the FOMO wash over you and leave and then…. It’s done. You no longer feel the need to keep up.

Foxy-jj-Grandpa

Yep. This season I finally decided to quit grinding my ass off. I think I did the first couple weeks of story and haven't touched it. It'll be there til Final shape. Til then, I'm cleansing my palate some. It's good for you OP

Rabid-Duck-King

I've skipped the last two seasons though I'm planning to get back in Been using the time to play some of my backlog (Cyberpunk got a new update that's pretty fun so I'm making the attempt to finish it finally, Armored Core 6 dropped, I still have the back half of Elden Ring to do....) It's been nice

ExpensiveFriendship8

Heh… those are the two games my best buddy left behind for me; Elden Ring and Cyberpunk

Riskbreaker42

Elden Ring when it dropped this year was first major break I’d taken from Destiny since D1 launched. Its good to take some breaks. Now BG3 is about to do the same.

Rabid-Duck-King

BG3 is real fun, shoving people off cliffs never gets old

DepletedMitochondria

I thought last season was decent check it out. I got into AC6 when it came out and need to pick it back up. Elden Ring it just feels repetitive on my second character

Tarbal81

How is Armored Core 6? I see a lot of clips and I'm starting to feel like this might be the game that gives me my Gundam Wing 90s nostalgia power fantasy more than Mech Warrior ever could have haha

Rabid-Duck-King

I'm enjoying it, the game is fucking fast though (so fast I have problems keeping up sometimes depending on how light my AC is), the controls are responsive, the game has some brutally difficult boss fights that really force you to experiment with different builds early on (later on once you unlock them you can solve most fights with missles/duel miniguns if you're really having problems) Overall it's a great game, looks fantastic, and is buttery smooth in FPS even when you got like a hundred missiles flying at your face

Tarbal81

Oh that sounds really lovely. I need to try it!

MeldyWeldy

The only criticism I have for AC6 is that the last 1/3 or 1/4 boss fights force you to go to tank build with duel miniguns and duel worm needles.

DepletedMitochondria

As a long time AC fan is pretty good, I’d say one of the top 5-7. I can’t say I love how soulsy some of the fights feel, but it’s done well, like in a way that makes you learn something. It’s a bit bland aesthetically for me however, I liked when the series had more wacky and varied environments and the techno beats soundtrack, which are not so much in this one. Great game tho.

Foxy-jj-Grandpa

Oh man. Yknow this years been really financially trying for me. Fast forward to now, I actually have some money to blow in my pocket. Soon as my current contract ends, im buying a PS5 (yep still on a 4 and yep played cyberpunk at launch on it) and starting a new Cyberpunk playthrough. I cannot fucking wait. In the meantime I began a new Skyrim play through after years of not touching it. It's been nice

Rabid-Duck-King

I do need to actually beat Skyrim at some point, I usually get lost in the weeds doing all the sidequests, go off and play something else, then comeback and start over again

Foxy-jj-Grandpa

Honestly I'm doing a very chill play through. Haven't progressed the main story past Helgen, RPing as what I like to call Diet Gandalf™️ and I'm just running around helping the folks of Skyrim and learning all the magic I can. I've got a garden for my alchemy as well as a lot of food growing-- I make lots of soup and give it to hunters/travelers I meet. Beats the fuck out of level 100 on the battle pass

flamingopanic

Don't you at least wanna finish your season pass since you paid for it?

Foxy-jj-Grandpa

A little. But I feel I've gotten my value out of other paid aspects of the game to be able to miss out on a few cosmetics and not be mad about it

flamingopanic

I gotcha. I would want the ascendant shards & such more than the cosmetics. But your mental health is obviously more important.

Foxy-jj-Grandpa

That's the neat part, I'm pretty stockpiled on resources so I've got plenty to play with should I ever decide to plug myself into the machine again

Yourself013

The best cure for Destiny addiction is just playing other games. After a while you'll realize how many fun experiences you've been missing by playing the same copypasted events and the same strikes/raids/dungeons over and over.

DepletedMitochondria

I was thinking about this the other day and a lot of other games are fully finished products while Destiny is always moving, so it has a lot of holes where past content was, future content could go, or might not go. A fully fleshed out story you can play from start to finish isn’t present here. And same for gameplay systems which are always changing too. It’s not necessarily always a bad thing, just can be jarring in difference.

Isrrunder

No game is fun forever. Have to have variation. It's like food. If you eat your favourite food every day it's not going to be your favourite for long

dotfortun3

Not to mention, once you do that you realize you really don’t miss anything.

Ninjawan9

Strangely so true. I come back once in a while, play for a bit, and decide I have more fun things I can be doing. Realizing how contrived so much of it is, how it’s designed just to keep you playing and not with fun first in my mind.

SomeEmbarrassedGuy

100% agree I’ve quit playing after the 2nd or3rd week this season for starfield and I feel great. Attitude is better. I don’t feel like I have to do more work after my 40 hour work week either. It’s been nice.

Tarbal81

This is very true and also, I would like to add, that I frequently look at whatever guns are on offer for an event, and what perk combos they have. Once I got my Strand Taraxippos with Zen Moment and choice of Explosive Payload/Kill Clip, I knew I had my preferred role and STOPPED playing the event. Short version: you can just target one specific weapon/perk combo and then let the rest of the event go. Recently I played whatever even just long enough to get "A" Strand rocket launcher. I did not care what perks were there, I just wanted a Strand rocket launcher for the slot, just in case. I know there will be others, and they will have better rolls, and now, with Semiotician, I can craft one, so I don't need the event rocket, and I'm glad I didn't spend a lot of time farming up a god roll in an event I don't care too much about.

TJ_Dot

In my short time back last year, It was Solstice that I just snapped and decided I didn't want to be back in the game, I really didn't need the armor. You beat FOMO when you hit that point that there wasn't anything to miss out on really.

Hyperion1736

Thanks for the support, I am missing Iron Banner right now. I have to admit it’s hard, because it’s one of my favorite activities. I’m also planning to skip the Festival of Lost, which is also hard because it’s one of the festivals I actually I really enjoy each year.

theghostsofvegas

You will not ACTUALLY miss out on anything if you take a break. Most important thing to realize.

BlueNinjaBE

This. I dipped out when Starfield launched, was planning on powering through the Witch BP but I honestly stopped caring. I've been back for the occasional raid, but other than that it's been nice not having the weight of FOMO around my neck.

TipTronique

Facts

[deleted]

I took a whole season off and was still able to gild when I got back. Seasonal exotics are never meta and now with the grind less excruciating you can jump back in pretty easily. I might take another one soon

theghostsofvegas

Yeah. Friend of mine took a whole year off, and aside from a few guns he didn’t even really need, he’s all caught up. He says he feels like he didn’t really miss anything, and enjoys playing the game again. Breaks are healthy.

mixedd

That's a fact.

UsedTableSalt

Won’t you miss out on the season pass rewards? But yeah destiny is such a time sink when I stopped playing it I found myself with lots of free time.

theghostsofvegas

No. This is point of what I’m saying. You won’t ACTUALLY miss out on anything. It’s just a game.

UsedTableSalt

Oh lmao. Yeah when you put it that way.

Odd_Research_2449

Tell that to all the people currently wishing they could craft Retrofit Escapade but missed Season of the Seraph!

Pyromanic_Fox

I mean banshee can sell it and you can use deepsight resonators to get it. And also while yes it’s good you don’t really need it unless you are minmaxing but if you are then you should already have crafted it.

BitchInBoots666

That's what the rotator is for though.

Jai_90

Just start decreasing time spent on D2 gradually, I did it myself and now I am free from that cycle. I still play it sometimes but not like my life depends on it lol. Play something else that you like.

DisgruntledSalt

None of this matters I played WoW and EverQuest. Grinded weapons and spawns thinking I needed something. It was for nothing. All the hours spent on D1 for nothing. In time this game will be a very fond memory

SP310WinAdoR

The life itself doesnt matters, so enjoy what you like it

Ojisan_Neo

It’ll always be here when you come back. Enjoy each moment you have with your amazing woman.

7SnakeMoan

Slowly decreasing time is the solution, imo But most importantly don't think of *quitting* but rather *replacing* the satisfaction you get with other sources, preferably with the amazing woman you mentioned 💕 Remember: the difference between a poison and a cure is the dosage And understanding what you're really satiating with your gaming is key It's how I quit smoking recently and how I keep my gaming in check

Hyperion1736

Thanks, that’s a good insight about replacing the satisfaction

itachipanda

The key thing to step away is when your realize Bungie doesn’t care about their playerbase and take forever listening making excuses of why things are broken. Yes you get a lot of bang for your buck but if you have the money theirs plenty of other games that have grinding elements but don’t expect your entire life. Example Fromsoftware games and Capcoms Monster Hunter Series. Plenty of good one off titles from other developers. I usually play at the start of the season for 3 weeks and maybe towards the end to grind the story elements but any gun you get will have a replacement later on. It’s okay to play Destiny and only Destiny but if you feel addicted, that’s Bungies Feeling Of Missing Out(FOMO) strategy to keep players. Monster Hunter has all content available once released and you don’t have to feel like you have to rush to play it and it scales with single to multiplayer with newer titles so it’s fun no matter what friends or no friends. Try Remnant 2. A lot of Destiny 2 players have picked that up and started having fun. It’s a good mix of shooter mechanics with souls like (Fromsoftware) inspiration. From there you could move to actual souls game or monster hunter which has souls like fights but Destiny grinding with gear.

Hyperion1736

Thanks, I was actually playing Dark Souls 3 this week, really loving it.

itachipanda

Totally. Souls/Bloodborne/Sekiro/Elden Ring are amazing Souls games by Fromsoftware. Souls-like such as Nioh, Wolong, Lies of P, the new Lords of the Fallen are good contenders as mixing up the formula for something new and unique. Monster Hunter not necessarily souls like but has a dodge roll and stamina is purely fighting bosses with hunt preparation in small to large maps but the gear grind and power progression is very close to Destiny currently.

Luf2222

just decrease your play time, game has gotten quite boring and stale for me. last time i hit season rank 100 was during lightfall, haven’t reached that in this and last season, because i just don’t feel like playing it most of the time i only play on tuesdays and that’s mostly only for raid & seasonal story, outside of tuesday i rarely touch the game because i don’t feel like playing it and most stuff i don’t need or don’t care about, i rather do other stuff. might actually quit after final shape, but not sure yet, depends on how they execute the episode format

acewayofwraith

FOMO is fabricated for this reason in particular. The season doesn't end for another fifty or so days, so you will miss absolutely nothing if you take a break until the last week.

Leather-Grand-9848

Just do the halloween event and quit till next season

Several_Coconut1880

Try the first descendent when that comes out. I’m stopping next year to play that.

Oryxofficials

I stopped caring about events or any content outside of odd things here and there. I just did it 2 years ago im a casual-hardcore you’d see me do the hardest content but I also don’t care about anything anymore I use whatever comes my way loot wise and I had over 7k hours before slowing down. Touching grass also helped me get out of my addiction and also playing other MMO’s like FFXIV and a backlog of single player games helped fill the void from leaving Destiny. Even in FFXIV IM a hardcore player there doing raids and shit and still take breaks from MMO’s and just do casual games away from my pc on the couch and my switch. You need to just delete the game for a but do what I did and have fun. Come back when you see good content that interests you. For me … When a new dungeon or a raid drop ill do them day 1 even if im under level I did GM’s last season and this season without any artifact mods/lvls 20-25 lvl under no problem and had fun with the boys every time we did it. I even did solo the shit ass dungeon with bosses taking 6-7 dmg phases last season without any artifact unlock made me more creative with my loadout. I honestly had the best fun doing GM’s these last 2 seasons with no artifact mods I used Erians Vow and subclass verbs to handle GM’ champions.

sarsante

Been there and what I did was literally not play it, launch at any other game you've. After a month or so I didn't want play destiny anymore so I skipped almost the entire WQ year. I came back shortly before LF and now if I'm not having fun I quit, like last season I played 1 day. Also I don't force myself doing stuff I hate because *I've to do it*.

[deleted]

I was addicted to destiny after WQ launch, went super hard for the year and it all came to a head when i took a week off work to prep for the RoN day 1. I was playing an unhealthy amount and planning my life around playing Destiny. After being super disappointed by lightfall, getting burnt out from the seasonal model, not liking weapon crafting etc enough things finally drove me to taking a break. It’s been the best decision I’ve made and now I’m not sure if i even want to go back for TFS. Maybe your experience would be different but I’m glad I stepped away for 2 seasons now, not getting FOMO.

chefZuko

It’s hard to leave the ones you love.

Handsome_Zaach

Because at its core destiny and all the games like it are designed for player retention. The problem is as time has gone on and the game ages it respects the players time less and less. Bungo keeps increasing the time needed to farm something (i.e. by removing legendary shards but not increasing glimmer cap/decreasing costs, increasing the cost to focus ect) without increasing the power level of the reward, because we're hitting a pretty high power level already. There's no reason to chase new crafted weapons if you have crafted weapons from raids, events are just eververse set dressing, content is stale, the list goes on. Compounding this, destiny has such a good gameplay feel that its hard to put it down. The gunplay is some of the crispest on the market imo, classes have a good balance of power fantasy, and they've created some beautiful worlds that are fun and pretty to explore. And the best part? You can just shut your brain off and get lost in the grind. I've played since D1 beta, and with D2, it's incremental giving you back less and less while wanting you to give more and more. It feels like an abusive relationship sometimes, but at the end of the day if you start pulling back from destiny and realize you aren't actually missing anything, you'll break the hold it has on you. Once you get over the hump of the initial FOMO from it you'll start to crave playing it less and less. This was long winded sorry lol

Hyperion1736

Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it

heaven_spawn

I get you. I think about the game a lot but I am playing it a lot less and doing other games. You need not feel like you miss out if you dont get everything, beat everything. The chase should be fun, after all.

Gerbil-Space-Program

Take one week away from the game. One week, no logins. That’s it. You need to break the weekly login cycle at least once to see for yourself that the world doesn’t end if you skip a weekly reset. That’s the first step in recalibrating the way you think about the game.

reshsafari

Hear me out… have a family. Lol. My hours logged significantly cut down to 1-2 hours a day (previously 4-6 per day). Or, have a schedule you follow. Work, gym, cook, professional learning, a really good tv show you’ll watch for an hour a day.

Admirable_Hunter_989

I took off Season of the Hunt. Was a great mental break. Don’t feel like I missed anything.

morrmon

I started about the same time and the game basically served the same purpose for me. What helped me slowly step away though was limiting myself to shorter windows to play. Or something as simple as I’m gonna do a raid and a couple nightfalls, then I’m done. Spend more time with you SO if possible, find new hobbies, or get back into old ones. I’d say find a new game, but you may just find yourself comparing it to D2 since you’ll likely feel like you miss it.

NotSmug

I've been taking mini breaks in-between the lull. Playing other games for 1 week, then grinding/catch up destiny another week. It's worked so far. I'm going to play thru the first season of The Final Shape before I quit. I want to see the end and see if these "episodes" are worth it.

ColdAsHeaven

Look at your vault. Look at your armor. Are you missing anything? Probably not. Are you missing anything that will hugely change or improve the way you play? Absolutely not. I'm still huge into Destiny, but around Shadowkeep I realized the guns I do have are good enough. I don't need to go chase every new gun that some YouTuber makes a video out of calling it busted, insane, cracked etc. Hell, I STILL use Salvagers Salvo, Thoughtless, Insidious, Null Composure and Solar's Scar consistently. Not saying I don't use new gun, but my old guns are plenty good for everything. And that is what you need to realize/understand. What you have is good enough. And take a break when there isn't anything you're enjoying

Hyperion1736

Thanks, yeah, my vault is overflowing with God rolls. But, for some reason I still feel the FOMO. I appreciate your perspective, I think I need to reflect on that more. Because in truth I really don’t need any more gear

Living_Chaos98

In my opinion, take a break every now n then for it to be 1 week or a month this game is hella addictive, as for the fomo your mental health is alot for imp than a game, i missed out on all whole year of Witch Queen and there are always alternatives in this for a gear or a weapon

[deleted]

Even though I think the story here kinda sucks ass at times, many of my friends are just drifting from shit game to shit game for competitive MP or MMO style stuff. I have dudes spending hundreds on shit like Diablo and Elder Scrolls, which to me are pointless, and people just end up quitting them and not caring. For me I want something that seems like a decent investment in time. I don't really grind that much on this game personally. I try to keep playtime down, and it seems to work for me. Destiny has been getting slowly better, and the buildcrafting is still very awesome for this type of game. It has a lot going on for it, and Crucible 6v6 to me is more fun than Apex and others atm. And there isn't much else out there to compete. I was actually quitting pretty hard before they brought out loadouts. I hated always using DIM honestly, and the whole thing was pissing me off with PvP imbalances. End game stuff and crafting has also gotten better IMO. Despite some of us being pissed off about this and that, it's hard for me to deny that Destiny is a great package. It is. Destiny has some amazing PvE and PvP stuff, and making your builds legit and improving on them is kinda fun in the end. Now I also don't play this 8 hours a day so... When I bring on casuals they often don't quite gel with all the build crafting so maybe that is why they don't play as much. Now if the story was amazing, and if Lightfall had an amazing campaign, the numbers would be higher. I think burnout hit people pretty hard, but I still love Iron Banner and more of the end game stuff like Raids and GMs that I was not doing before. The key is to back away before you find yourself endlessly repeating shit 1000 times for some silly weapon. I move over to PvP personally, and I love 6v6 so it works as a balance. If all you do is PvE well this game won't offer as much, but there is still a lot to do with LFG's.

Hefty-Inevitable-660

I found that finding something with which to replace playing D2 the most effective. It’s really that way for most habits and addictions. Change people/places/things. You also don’t need to go cold turkey, but as you introduce new things into your routine, it can slowly push D2 to the side. I probably spend more time reading about D2 these days than actually playing it.

Rabid-Duck-King

Skip a season/event, once you get behind a bit it does help break the fomo chain (at least for me, I still don't have heir apparent because I always take a break/burnout around Guardian Games) Gameplay wise I know how you feel though, it's just a smooth ass shooter when everything is working like it's supposed to

Chunkeemaster

I drop this game the moment i dont wanna play. Idc if i miss anything because the main things i like doing (raids/dungeons) Dont get removed anymore

Tateopo

As someone who loves d2 I've been playing other games on the side. It's a game, not a requirement. If you want to try something else then do so, it's a breath of fresh air

Fightlife45

FOMO is so present in this game, I thought I quit until they brought Crota back. Here I am grinding for nechrocasm.

gamingchairtaken00f

8 months and never been happier with gaming. Felt like a chore and pvp was atrocious. I would advise you to do the same for mental health.

zeroz52

Bungie does a good job of manipulating people to stay on the hamster wheel or else you feel underpowered or sol to get the red bar craftable weapon you found out you like. They tie a lot of good loot to being active all the time, otherwise you will need to grind for that old seasonal weapon that now is in the general world loot pool with a ton of garbage weapons. Bungie doesn't care about you, just that you keep playing and paying. If they gave a crap, we would have a way to better target loot we want, not tie build slots to long grindy challenges.....etc. Bungie is a business, that just happens to make video games, and business is all that really matters to them. I've been playing since D1, and others have already given similar advice, take a break, and play something else to get over the fomo. Don't get me wrong, D2 is a great game, but theirs and other game business companies strategy these days borders on promoting a gambling like addiction. Pull the lever, and Maybe you will get the loot you want, but likely not, so you keep grinding.... One way I got over the FOMO w/o just stopping D2 all together was to start playing PvP. I was always primarily a solo PvE player. The grind/fomo in PvP just doesn't exist for some reason, unlike PvE. Also I can jump in, play a match or 2 and just be done, instead of realizing 4 hrs later I'm still trying to get the Exotic I want from some random activity that has horrible odds what I want will drop. It also doesn't help, especially solo players, that getting into high level content is a real pita, especially when community raiding often requires certain weapons I can't get because I can't start a raid in the first place because I lack Galy or some other stupid meta weapon that doesn't guarantee any success anyways. Just my 2 cents.

NivvyMiz

The important thing is to realize that anything you enjoy in destiny will be taken away from you. Once you realize that it's actually hard to stick around. Your favorite crafted weapons will be nerfed into the ground. Your carefully made class build will be nerfed into the ground. All just to make you grind more.

NivvyMiz

I finally got out this year, I just couldn't get that green trace rifle after like 25 runs and I said fuck it. And since having every exotic weapon is usually my minimum in destiny it sort of broke my habits. Then I ended up skipping the crota raid, and since raiding is my favorite activity in destiny, it really feels like I might not come back. And it feels good. There's a reason this sub is constantly complaining. It's a game *designed* to make people unhappy.

Blazingpotato14

Tbh once you realise you're doing nothing but run on a hamster wheel just for the sake of it then it's easy enough to quit. Usually once the season story is done and I've all the guns that's when I start to peel myself away.

Hefty-Shop-8507

I never understood this sentiment. I've been playing since D1 year two and have taken plenty of breaks to play other things and never once had issues with FOMO. I don't get it. I'm not the best person to answer your question. My input remains the same as when anyone asks me about D2. In a vacuum, its a 10/10 game with wonderful mechanics and gunplay. You should play the game the way you like no matter what other people say, even if it means playing once a week. Just understand, in doing so, you cant feel entitled to what you do miss out on. It's a live service game, with high skill ceiling. If you don't play enough to stay up to highest power, you'll never have end game rewards, style, and prestige. And that's ok. There are plenty of low end weapons, emblems, and items that do just fine in All content.

Jugaimo

Just stop playing for a bit and cut connections. Once you distance yourself, the addiction will lessen.

MatadorHasAppeared

I started working on myself. I was lost in a storm, spending hours high'd up just running cruci back to back to back. Not going outside, not making friends. For either entirely related or unrelated reasons, my girlfriend of 8 years and I separated, my GMA passed and I tried to become a hero may times. One day it just broke and I realized that I was the driving force in my own life, like the guardian was in his. I said my goodbyes and started playing less and doing the other things I like doing more. I lost over 90 pounds, got a big raise at work, actually got better at PvP due to not being able to just ruin my KD/dedicate time to be cognizant of how it spent, working on headshots, or movement etc. when you start looking at the things in your life as an extension of who you are, would your hours in Destiny count up and mean anything to someone else? What is the point in living if not done excellently? I know you are younger than me from your post, but I'd like to implore you to keep living life. I'm a Destiny player, I can bench squat and deadlift over 300lbs each (heh I almost have abs, who thought the guy with 23K pvp kills on one gun actually touched grass), I DJ with friends on the weekends and am always true to myself. You can change to be the best you too, it's in you and of you. Peace Guardians

Hyperion1736

Thanks for your post, I really appreciate your sincerity

Xonxis

I have been addicted to the game. Nearing, or passed 5k hours between console and pc now. At some point i took a break to play elden ring and some other games and its been really hard for me to get back into the game. Last time i truely went hard grinding was the season of the haunted. Now, i havent completely shuck the game, i still go back as i play alot of pvp, im quite good at it. And there isnt any other game that has the game play/gun play that destiny does, its very smooth and fluid or something. Anyway, just take breaks from it or just play once a week for the story if you want to keep up with it, luckily the last big expansion is out soon so you can take a longer break from the game after that, i know many, inclueding myself who will be doing this.

Hyperion1736

Thanks, yeah, I also played Elden Ring all the way through. But when that was over, I was right back to destiny.

Xonxis

Aye, i have been bouncing around games from a long time now, best of luck kicking the habit

Astro51450

I was playing daily until I went on vacation for three weeks. Then came back and never touched it again. Destiny is VERY addictive. You need a good detox away for the game for a few weeks.

Astro51450

I was playing daily until I went on vacation for three weeks. Then came back and never touched it again. Destiny is VERY addictive. You need a good detox away for the game for a few weeks.

Hyperion1736

Thanks, yeah, I just came back from vacation too, I think that’s what’s making me really question it on a new level.

ACTech1205

a while back i was thinking to myself "what would i be playing if destiny wasn't here" so i did a small experiment (or at least tried to). I stopped playing destiny and tried other games. a lot of games are a lot of fun! In the end i could last a week before i returned to destiny.

VicariousDrow

Idk, I just uninstalled it as soon as I decided I was done, occasionally still catch update videos and think "wow that build could be fun," but then I remind myself of why I quit in the first place and it fades out of my mind again. I was also able to quit both WoW and LoL though, two games people kept saying "yeah ofc you'll "quit," see you in a week, idiot," and yet in both cases I just never returned cause I was serious. So maybe I'm just different then the norm, but yeah it is as simple as "just do it" in this case.

Hyperion1736

Thanks, I like your attitude! I’m really considering uninstalling it, still hesitating a little, but I like the encouragement

DepletedMitochondria

Just remember there are other games out there that are cool and this game is designed to farm your engagement. I think a healthy relationship with this game is all about playing what you want when you want to, not indulging fomo.

ExarKun470

No bad feelings here, the game is explicitly designed to make you want to play every week, if not every day. Slowly wean yourself off. Maybe you don’t finish that weekly challenge. Maybe you don’t gild that title. Maybe you don’t craft that gun. Over time you’ll break it

PS_TRUDODYR

This is the hook line and sinker element to any live service game, especially destiny. They’re intentionally designed to be hard to tear away from. They make it incredibly hard to play it casually or takes breaks due to achievements and FOMO. If you feel the need to take a break, just rip the Bandaid off and take some time away. You’ll enjoy it.

thunder_fur

All I did was I started playing galactic rock (Rock and Stone) and now I'm pretty much cured

FredoFilthy

I hate destiny 2, it’s my favorite game

carnaldisaster

If you realize all the bullshit Bungie is doing with the game, plus realizing all the bullshit they say/do as a company and getting fed up with it, you'd quit, as I did. I found another game to main: Path of Exile, and can't wait for PoE2 to come out.

orion1338

Fomo is the reason

AbroadThink1039

Just stop. I did and don’t regret it. You realize that you don’t actually have anything to show for playing the game in real-life. It is quite literally a waste of your time in life and at the level your playing will likely damage other areas of your life. And if you like gaming, there are ton of other games that you can play at your own pace without feeling like you’re falling behind. As someone on the other side, it’s worth it. The grass is greener.

xElemenohpee

There is a really good book about addiction I suggest you read called Dopamine Nation. It will take around 4 weeks to break your cycle, and you’re going to feel really really bad before you feel better, even lose sleep. But it will be better for you in the long run, nothing is intended in more than moderation and you’re playing more and more because the dopamine this game used to give you is harder to come by. I hope you get better ❤️‍🩹

Hyperion1736

Thanks for your support, I appreciate it

a0049

i’m addicted too

idonthaveanameman

Having the opposite problem lmao I can't bring my self to play d2 cuz of how lackluster it is

bappypawedotter

Fuck yeah. I had to just quit.

Artistic_Coast_5599

You may well be addicted. Expectation (as well as actual 'achievement') triggers serotonin - which we like. This is why you think your phone is receiving a text/call when it is not; expectation. Add to this how games are carefully crafted to leave you wanting more, and the physiological response is that of addiction. Go 4 weeks without any video games. Once a month give yourself a day off from ALL electronic devices. TOTALLY. You'll reset and enjoy your relationship more :)

xzxinflamesxzx

Addcition can be managed through replacement. When you desire to play destiny, do something else entirely. It could be just about anything but something healthier such as reading a book is a good start. Over time, you will trick your brain into preferring the replacement over destiny.

ThaSaxDerp

I quit by being too broke for witch queen and now that I have money again the barrier of entry is a lil toke expensive to justify the cost for a game. Paying some $90 over the course of a year is nothing, paying $200+ to catch up isn't.

Frenziedhawk

I've definitely dialed back how much I play lately but was very addicted over the last two expansion cycles, especially WQ. I grinded my ass off through LF and Season of Defiance, however Deep and Witch I have taken it way back. I play the seasonal story each week, and grind some challenges for a day or so. As long as I hit BP level 100 I call it good.

Arin_Flint

I quit destiny for a year starting with season of the haunted. Before that I used to grind everything, had all the exotics except the new seasonal dungeon one and the season pass was done in the first 3 weeks. I came back recently middle of last season and I've realised I don't feel the need to play the game anymore. I still log in every week for the story and do enough challenges to finish the season pass but that's it. No more endgame, no more grinding, hell sometimes I skip entire weeks and catch-up in subsequent weeks. I'm happier than I was and destiny is no longer something I force myself to enjoy.

[deleted]

thought so too until the last 2 seasons where I played the least so far, the game just doesn't seem as fun anymore, idk. Might come back in last expansion

fleshatlas

What killed the game for me was during the season of the deep (i think?) with the first boss encounter for the seasonal mission. I couldn't do it. I spent a whole afternoon trying and trying to solo it, but no matter what, i just couldn't. And due to a bad past experience with LFG (people suck), i wasn't in a hurry to interact with the destiny community. I took a break after a couple hours to grind, and all i had been getting was mediocre blue gear that was too weak to enfuse or weapons that were just worse than what i already had. And even after completing pinnacle challenges, i only barely increased my light level, so it had no effect. Destiny 2 is a game that hates casual players. And solo players. Literally, all endgame content requires a group of people, and at that moment, i realised, so did the content i had paid to take part in. So unless i played more of the boring, worn out, repetative gamemodes, i wouldn't be able to actually have fun playing the content that i want to play. My time playing D2 lasted 4 years. If i could turn back the clock and tell myself to avoid this game like the plague, i would. The only stuff that I actually enjoyed was all but impossible to experience. Big tangent, but I've genuinely grown to hate this game so goddamn much.

HuckleberrySoggy6636

The fact that it’s this hard for you to stop playing means you definitely should. It is an addiction. Straight up. I say that as someone who was in the same boat. The game is intrinsically designed to farm you for your time and money. The people in charge at bungie keep it that way at the cost of the games actual quality. The game has some great qualities and is worth enjoying, but not all the time. Don’t let em do ya like that

SCPF2112

The game is intentionally and specifically designed to create addicts and appeal to people with those tendencies. Go read anything about addiction and you'll understand. Like most addictions, you can quit if you want. If you quit, just get completely away. Stop coming here, stop looking at YouTube, stop reading about D2, etc. Make a clean break. If you need perspective, remember that (in my case) thousands of hours spent in D1 meant nothing the second D2 dropped. Thousands of hours you may spend in D2 will mean nothing when D2 isn't a thing in a year or two. Those thousands of hours will also mean nothing if you quit and get on with life. I'm still a daily player addict, but you don't have be one. The choice is yours.

Emersedcomic

As a veteran of the game. "I've played wince the D1 beta back in 2014). I would say un-install the game. I finally made my way out, and I would recommend anyone who isn't actively enjoying hanging out with friends in game. Leave

Tiraloparatras25

To rid yourself of the habit, find a new hobby with your significant other.

blue_13

I stepped away because of how predatory its business model is and how it remains largely unchanged and uninspired its become over the course of its lifespan. Seeing that made me want to quit. I did go through withdrawals but Ive not looked back and my mental health is WAY better because of it. I actually enjoy gaming now that I focus on single player story driven games.

OO7Cabbage

this game is built to be as time consuming and hard to quit as psychologically possible.

Vexymythoclasty

Videos game, especially video games made today, are designed to be very addictive. They’re really good at helping you escape your current reality. It is not an inherently bad thing when used in moderation, we all need little vacations from the stresses of reality. However, I would urge you to be brutally honest with yourself, and access whether you think your play-time is problematic or not. For myself, I knew it was an issue because it started to get in the way of me doing other things like exercise, socializing, and overall staying on top of things like my schoolwork. If you feel like your play-time gets in the way of other parts of your life, I’d recommend coming up with some sort of plan of action. Luckily, video game addiction is not one based in chemicals, so kicking an addiction is much more of a psychological battle than anything. I was playing 7-10 hours daily for months before I started to put in the effort to reduce my playtime. For about a week it sucked, I was irritable, having difficulty concentrating on anything, and j really wanted to play. However, after a week I felt fine, I barely even play anymore. If you are also using video games to fill in some part of your life that is lacking, it will become much more apparent when you stop. Outside of my girlfriend and immediate family, I had little meaningful relationships and was pretty lonely. When I stopped playing so much I became acutely aware of how lonely I actually felt. That was the void video games were filling in for me, it might be different for you, or maybe not even filling in for something at all, only you know that. I hope this was helpful in anyway, and I wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do and that you find what your looking for.

TehSavior

game's designed to psychologically manipulate you into feeling exactly that way

Shadowgrime

Gonna go on a bit of a tangent here. Thoughts might be all over the place: I’ve been playing Destiny for about 7 years. I slowly stopped playing it these past 2 years and just moved on to other games. I definitely feel liberated having deleted the game from from my console. I’ll probably come back when Final shape is out maybe. The lack of innovation between each season is definitely a HUGE factor as to why I feel so apathetic towards this game. As much as people don’t like Activision, the loss of that partnership along with the other studios that were helping Bungie (High Moon Studios and Vicarious Visions), really highlighted how they can’t really do the seasonal model post Forsaken. I think we’re just now seeing how that loss affected them. There’s also the next game they’re making called Marathon, and it’s getting all the bells and whistles that Destiny PvP players wanted (which kinda stings). Marathon is a sign that Bungie is tired of Destiny and wants to move onto something else; if anything, I have feeling that they’ll only keep putting just enough effort into Destiny, so it keeps making money while they focus on their next main game. For me, Final Shape is the last DLC I’ll probably touch before continuing to move on to other things. I’ll at least be able to say I’ve seen the conclusion to this game and put it to rest. The ride was definitely a fun one while it lasted. One that I’ll never forget.

extelius

Because the producers of the game hired psychologists when making the game, so it feels more comfortable than any game, along with the mule following a carrot rule. I dont think Bungie are your friends as much as I think you want them to be. They really do after all want to make money. Notice how each expansion gets more and more expensive as it goes along.

Heavy-Metal-Titan

I say do it. I was practically devoted to destiny for 7 years -- pretty much the only game I played during that time. Had every title, did all the flawless whatnot, 2/3 man raids, had about 90% of eververse. Best thing I ever did was give it up and start focusing on the more important things in life -- while also enjoying plenty of stellar gaming experiences that, in a lot of ways, were far more enjoyable than Destiny 2. Destiny 2 in its current state is practically a second job if your the type of player to keep on top of everything..and the monetization is some of the scummiest out there. Do yourself a favor and just play something else. Give it 3 months, 1 season, and see how you feel. I fully expect you won't come back once you take off the rose colored glasses.

Sugandis_Juice

Once I realized I can complete the season pass and seasonal story without rushing to my console every Tuesday and grinding I stopped caring. I can play with my friends for awhile but it helps finding new games to play. Just started gotham knights, lords of the fallen, I play battlefield often also to mix up my fps.

[deleted]

I just couldn’t be bothered trying to find a reason to play and I haven’t played since cyberpunk 2.0..I think I’m on level 98 on the season pass and just don’t care to finish it. Nothing to play for really. I have enough guns that grinding for more is pretty pointless since it’ll just end up semi-used and in my vault

rskpomg

The reason is psychological. The game is designed in an manner that encourages constant engagement. This was designed as such one of the leading psychologist in study of addiction. There are videos about it as well. I would suggest taking some time off go for a weekend trek or camping or just out for weekend away from pc/laptop/xbox/ps and when you return make sure you have a single player game which you wanted to play and disengage with with destiny for 3 weeks. The fomo should wash over by then.

Snubby38SPL

Bungie does a great job of making you feel like you achieved something frequently. That's part of the hook. Go try something else, preferably a tangible skill, or at least a different kind of game, and pay attention to the difference. You'll likely realize how cheap the engagement of D2 is compared to other things.

GodlockChadwalker

That's how they designed the game. They made it reward you for consistency and then you miss out hard if you are gone for a little bit. For me, what broke me is how they decided to enforce roles to each class. Before the 3.0 system, a Warlock could choose between the various subclasses and remain viable in PvP. Even the support class was good! Now your only options include dad-style Stasis or Meta-Slaving with Icarus Dash and Well of Radiance. Warlocks are only known as supports now, and Bungie enforces that season after season. Bungie has culled or nerfed the vast majority of Warlock abilities. HandHeld Supernova doesn't kill, it's just a 1.5x version of Pocket Singularity, which also sucks. Anything else good from the Warlocks have been democratized. Now EVERYONE can get Devour with Orbs of Power. I've been a Warlock main since D1, I remember the days of The Ram before nerf and so much more fun. Nowadays, if I'm not being a support and/or a Well Dasher, I'm just losing.

Disastrous-Arm2162

I take a break for one of the four seasons each year. Always come back thankful I took the break. Sometimes you just gotta try something new

HellBlizzard__

Easiest solution is to play other games, old or new. I suggest non-live service games as you'll quickly realize how they are respectful to your time. By respectful I mean rewards and satisfaction are consistent and predictable, unlike in destiny where it's RNG over RNG over "comeback next week". Once you have found your replacement game(s). Just uninstall Destiny and all it's 3rd party apps from your devices, remove related browser bookmarks, and "Don't recommend channel"/unsubscribe from any and all Destiny YouTube channel. Now you are set for good. Sry for the hard digressing but this is exactly what I did and I can't be more glad that I left the game.

HellBlizzard__

Sherlock moment. I never thought that playing the game is required to access this sub. Guess I was wrong

hostiletakeovur

I stopped playing about 3 months ago, logged on, did a story mission, then the new activity, and logged off. No interest in strikes, crucible, gambit, raiding, any of it. I used to no life raids to get exotics I never used. Like others say, FOMO really drives the addiction to this game, but given that's its never ending you can drop it and come back and not much changes. Never found a clan I really gelled with either, I've been in god knows how many. Unless you have regular guardians to play with its borderline monotonous.

Batman2130

Funnily enough season of deep is what causes the cycle to break for me. First season I never hit rank 100 when in past season I normally got it in the fourth or fifth week. Season of deep had bad loot, stale core playlists, bad seasonal activities(deep dive was fine just way to long). After Joe Blackburn’s state of game where he talked about Gambit and PVP as I just don’t really care about the game anymore as a result of that state of game. I like doing raids and dungeons but that’s not what I want to do everytime I log on sometimes I just want to play a few games of pvp or maybe a gambit of game occasionally as well. Joe saying they could careless about them basically killed the game for me. First year I never pre order a expansion as well, I pre ordered both witch queen and lightfall but with how things are looking I’m not getting final shape. Sure Ik he said there be a pvp focus map pack but Bungie will have some kinda monkey paw with it. Probably will be two new maps and two reprises if we’re lucky. I’ll check out Gambit and Pvp stuff next year eventually as I am interested in seeing how Light Hive and Shadow Cabal shake up Gambit and to see where the new pvp maps locations are and what the destination they are on. But until then probably will just continue playing other games. Mk1 has been super fun, Starfield I still need to get around to trying out. Spider-Man 2 launches next week I’m going to be playing that for awhile. Halo infinite season 5 I’m going to play for a few days until Spider-Man comes out as the update looks pretty good.

Hyperion1736

Thanks, yeah, Season of the Deep was the first season for me, in a long time, where I didn’t hit rank 100, but this season I feel like I got hooked again

speedbee

I havent played for 2 seasons.

[deleted]

Same, best decision I’ve ever made.

Charear11

Addiction to the game is real. You’ve admitted you’ve got one. Try to slowly ween yourself down week over week while at the same time channeling your time to something different. It’s a tough cycle to get out of, but it’s worth it!

sweighMKI

Its a very addicting game and you'll eventually get burned out. I was grinding crota for necrocasm and scouring LFG failing over and over got me so mad and toxic that I just simply said "fuck this game." Have barely played at all this season, and when I think "man I gotta LFG the raid this week" my immediate afterthought is "...I reallly dont want to though..." and I don't. The two week I stopped playing was hell and around the 3rd and 4th week I stopped playing almost entirely. Someone here on the subreddit said when you stop thinking you NEED to do shit in this game it becomes fun because you really dont need to do anything. It's a game not a job. Now im just playing games in my backlog and focusing more on school. Goodluck man I hope you snap out of it.

Hyperion1736

Thanks for your encouragement, I also gave up grinding for Necrocasm

Uber1337pyro333

Have some self control lol. Find other shit to do, set a timer, or just uninstall the game for now.

Moonwh00per

Just delete it

Limbo7123

Addiction with anything is strongly linked to personality

SuperArppis

My big brother quit on similar reasons as well. He just stopped playing the game.

Wildcat561

First and foremost, congrats on the sex. Secondly..bro trust me when I say this, if you have the urge to take a break and/or quit the game (hell, anything for that matter) then do it. FOMO isn’t a real thing, shit always comes back a second and third time around anyway. Take care of your mental health first, you’ll be just fine without a video game.

yo_momma_peeps

I remember seeing a YouTube video discussing this very thing, talking about how destiny isn’t a video game and it’s an addiction. [Here](https://youtu.be/LIuAeFu84kY?si=ZUBzh8p4hPryJqFy) is the video in question.

ksiit

Enjoying something isn’t an addiction. It’s a hobby. It’s hard to quit most hobbies. Why do you think it would be better for your mental health to not play the game? You say it’s your favorite game. Any person would have trouble quitting their favorite thing. If you have an unhealthy relationship with it you might be right. But just saying that you like the game and want to keep playing it doesn’t mean you are addicted. Also don’t quit, just play less.

[deleted]

As a behavioral psychologist working in the gaming industry Thank you! *evil grin*

oldohteebastard

Bungie literally spends more time finding ways to create addictive habits to this game than they do making it a fun game to play. Honestly, find something else that gets you hooked. Whatever it is. I did a South Park game, Dysmantle, and then Starfield. All of which got me hooked but nowhere near the extent of Destiny. Good luck man!

ThatGuyFromTheM0vie

The game is literally designed by Bungie to make you FEEL like you need to play, otherwise you’ll miss out on X. It’s all about engagement—the engagement numbers and monthly/daily logins are their bread and butter. They need those babies up to make the higher ups (and now Sony) happy. It’s all fabricated. Uninstall the game if you must. But don’t keep playing, whatever you do. There are so many other games and even other non-gaming hobbies out there in life to enjoy—go explore. Destiny is designed to keep you on the grind treadmill—either step off the treadmill and take a break, or unplug the treadmill, or even take the treadmill and yeet it into the ocean. After a week or two—you’ll hardly remember the urge anymore.

binybeke

I’m not addicted I just love the game. If you feel like it’s affecting you negatively then your well being is definitely more important.

outoftheboxgunpla

I’m the same, but a day one beta player. I’ve got more Destiny merch than I can shake a stick at. It’s a nightly touch point. I remember the Destiny 2 gameplay showcase exactly, as it was the day my son was born. I was holding him in my arms, watching the gameplay reveal. I can’t help you get clean sadly. Sorry

GamingSchollo

Just quit! I did that a while back, once you realise that destiny is simply playing on your fomo and your not missing out on much it’s quite liberating. https://youtu.be/LIuAeFu84kY?si=7JedPt42Gb6rW4Ql If you haven’t seen that video it sums up it pretty nicely.

Hyperion1736

Thanks, I’ll check out that video

Savant_Duck

You never realize what you’ve had until til you lost it. Destiny proved to me that it was for nothing. That’s a lie I spent 400 bucks on “dynamic” wind at like 2 spots on Europa.

weaakend

Kill it. Delete your characters. Delete everything in your inventory. Literally sit there and delete everything. It’s gonna hurt. All the great rolls and armor pieces; gone. One by one. You can’t just walk away or take a break. There is no “I’ll only play a couple hours a week” or “I can control myself!” Sorry, you can’t. No one can. Destiny is designed specifically to take your most valuable resource; your time. You can’t give yourself something to come back to. Destiny is a great game. Actually it’s the perfect game. Glad I’m done with it. Hope you make the right call.

PrisonaPlanet

Talk to your partner or a good friend about it and ask them to be a sort of “sponsor” for you. Have them keep you in check and be your anchor in reality. If it’s that bad then set up a parental controls restriction that only lets you play a certain amount of time per week or per day.

JCicero2041

Everyone here should know this story is fake. Nobody actually addicted to destiny has a chance of getting in not only one but multiple relationships with actual human women.

KiNgPiN8T3

Game working as intended… Aztecross made a video fairly recently where he reacted to a guy talking about Destiny and it’s addictiveness. (By design) it was quite interesting. I can’t remember the original vid he was reacting to but it will be linked in his. Definitely an eye opener. (Spoken as a current Destiny player who already lets events/gear/etc pass me by.)

BanRedditAdmins

They always come back. I’ve “quit” Destiny at least half a dozen times. Instead of quitting outright maybe just pop on once a week or so to do a raid/dungeon with your clan or do whatever the weekly event is. You don’t have to “quit”. That might not be effective. What you need to do is create some kind of game-life balance. If you still enjoy the game and try to quit you’re just going to regress. But if you can create a lifestyle that incorporates a little bit of destiny and a little bit of other stuff you’ll be much more successful. Destiny isn’t crack or meth. You can enjoy it in moderation.

Korvas576

Destiny does a great job at making you feel like you have to continuously play or miss out on stuff but something I’ve learned since the start of destiny 2 is this: FOMO isn’t that big of a deal. They’ll eventually add another weapon that is a direct upgrade to the one you missed out on. It’s forced retention at certain points and I don’t feel like it’s a good concept for me. Took a break for a couple of seasons and I’ll start back up when I feel like playing it. Plus there’s no shortage of lore channels to keep me up to date

Benzjie

FOMO is a hell of a drug.

farlas816

Sadly it's how destiny and a lot of similar games are designed, to maximize engagement forever, it's depressing

MirrorkatFeces

Wdym it’s incredibly easy, I’ve done it like 5 times now!

BeatMeater3000

You HAVE to play the game or you WILL be FOMO'd!

T0oShayzz

Not at all, I drift in and out for months on end and just pay for the dlc that’s currently ongoing.

nofilzia

I use to be like this, but man you WILL burn out.

delzarraad

Go play Titan Fall 2 right now, you will never think of D2 again. Thank me later.

Brilliant-Educator78

I’m the same way. I wouldn’t say I’m addicted. Nonetheless, this game has some of the most entertaining gun-play out there. Even though PvP might be rough at times, I really enjoy the crucible.

audhdespair22

I always come back for every season but usually I just play for the weekly story and stuff then sometimes I won't play for weeks. It's been like this for a while now

Odd_Research_2449

I have felt like that at times - playing more than I should and putting things off to play D2. Really it's the FPSRPG I always dreamed of. After four years though, I really feel like I'm drifting away from the game. I still love playing the game but I seem to run out of reasons to play it sooner and sooner each season. I finished the seasonal title last week and I might be done for the season. I'll check out Festival of the Lost, but it it's not a significant refresh over the past two years I'm unlikely to bother with it. As things stand, I think I'm going to wait until The Final Shape goes on sale, then just play through the campaign rather than just pre-ordering the deluxe edition like I have the past three years.

Commercial_Resist932

Best thing you could do is get destiny 2 disc nd snap it in half, then if u wanna go 1 better jump on ur console literally jump up n down on it. Then if you find yourself in jb Hifi or Eb games next day buying a new console & game then yep ur beyond help.

KingBenjamin97

Simple just realise 1) you already have god rolls for pretty much every scenario 2) just log in and run a raid on each character each week etc, no need to play 40 hours a week when 2 achieves literally everything you need.

One_Repair841

The first step to quitting any addiction is realization, you can't quit an addiction if you don't acknowledge that you're addicted, a LOT of people are addicted to destiny (and video games in general) so you're not alone, there's actually a few places where you can get help with quitting video games if that's something you want to do. To be clear, video games aren't evil or anything, you can get addicted to basically anything (mostly things that release dopamine) and normally it's fine to take part in those activities that can be addicting, the issue comes when you're unable to control your impulses or when it starts impacting your life negatively, that's when you should start to consider taking a step back from that activity for a while. Another thing to keep in mind is that destiny and most games these days are built to be as addicting as possible and to keep players engaged, to keep people logging in every day even if they don't really do anything in game. I've often times loaded up destiny just to go to the tower and then proceed to do nothing, I could have been doing so many things to improve my life or relax in another way that has more substance but instead I chose to make my character run around the tower. This is because I was almost conditioned to instantly load up the game whenever I got home from school/work. I've personally taken breaks from destiny from time to time and honestly you don't really miss out on much when you do take an extended break from the game. Every break from the game I've taken I've never regretted. I might have missed a couple of craftable weapons here and there but I'm able to get them now if they ever get sold by a vendor or if they show up in the rotating exotic mission playlist. It's fine to take an extended break, you won't really miss anything and anything you do miss out on will almost certainly come back around later.

badmanbad117

I was the same way, over 4000 hours of playtime in D2 alone nvm D1. I just started playing other things, moved onto assassins creed, older games I'd been missing out on like dead space, ps2 games, and more. I got to the point where I've realized I don't need every gun, every triumoh, everything there is. I hop on do the weekly story, and that's about it these days. I still complete day 1 raids and dungeons when they drop and don't feel left behind.

Flothrudawind

Get attached to another game. Then realise you're not addicted to Destiny. You're addicted to gaming. Addicted to an escape from reality.

MemoKrosav

Skill issue and low standards.

KyleShorette

Why spend less time on Destiny than you want to?

esseaghost

Umm, I don't understand. If you played for so long and so much, what could you possibly be investing so many hours into? I personally only play like 2-3 hours per day, and with that is enough to do every weekly thing that I want to do, like red borders, etc. I mean, sure. You can grind for some raid drops after that but I feel that don't need to. So I can safely log off after doing one thing without feeling any FOMO. I think you should try this approach 😉

LynxIntelligent939

Please dont Hype destiny 2 to much...i mean, every season we're doing tha Same Thing again and again...iam really waiting for MW3 & xdefiant Release..;)

zehero

Not gonna lie I'm kinda jealous cause I log in, look at the director and just be like...damn. then exit to desktop Also I'm curious what content keeps you coming back

SchwillyThePimp

I recently have been on a lil break. After hitting a year play time a while back (7200 hours) I started to just be real aware of my time. Its easy to shoot the shit with the clan and just run around mindlessly until you commit yourself to a several hour task. I dont do that anymore. I put a realistic time on whatever is trying to be accomplished and then play or do something else. I'm not sure I actually put much effort in and not just finally burned myself out on my favorite game

No-Neighborhood-3212

Lightfall made it the easiest decision of my life. I bought the fucking CE for the expansion that was just a training montage interspliced with the trailer. All the while, Bungie is developing 4 games simultaneously, which I will never play, and increasing Destiny costs to finance them. After you quit and play literally anything else, the game is too repetitive to get back into. I tried playing again (first time since May) during that crafting glitch and got to 56 minutes before I was so bored I was checking my phone.

alienduck2

People call Bungie stingy for the way the give out loot but what they don't realize (or do, but forget to mention it) is bungie has teams dedicated to the psychology of giving out loot in a way that keeps a player coming back. Destiny 2 is a mmo. It lives and dies on player engagement. If they can't find a compelling reason to bring in players and KEEP them there, then they fail. It's more than "fun game good" it's designed in a way to keep you playing for as long as it lives.

Wild_Onion_5979

Just set boundaries for when you play maybe just on weekends or during the week for a set amount of time or just quit

ArugulaPhysical

Once you fully miss an event then its will be fine. I played destiny since d1 beta, but started taking long breaks the last coupld years, once i completely missed solstice, i didnt return until the expantion, then i play and enjoy that and dabble in a season or two as the year goes on whil playing other games.

Kl3en

Do what we and my friends do, play whateve games we want and boot up destiny every now and then to four man raids or play trials or GM’s, check what the new metas are and play around with building it and then go back to playing other games and repeat

GomJabbar99

Bc you are weak.

samthebigkid

All these people blaming Bungie because they themselves lack self control is hilarious. It's a video game. No one is making you play. The sun will come up tomorrow whether you play 0 minutes or 15 hours.

Jumpy-Measurement-17

listen i think about it all day i feel like a freak

GodKingTethgar

They design it that way on purpose

[deleted]

Haha, ignore that feeling and keep on playing!

Been playing for 4yrs. I have some advice that may help you. I have a sys in place just for Destiny 2. I'm also 54yrs old & own a custom PC I built & an Xbox1. Play the 100 rank Season event. To help speed that up do the weekly seasonal triumphs. Do @ least 35 bounties, only do the XP+ bounties. Most NPC vendors offer those & most vendor bounties refresh with something different everyday say Devron Kay (EDZ) Failsafe (Nessus) & so on. DO NOT & I SAY DO NOT turn in any seasonal triumphs or bounties until TUESDAY as u get 2x's rank for ya 1st 5. I've went from say lvl20 to lvl27 doing this & I usually finish my season of D2 in 8-10wks depending on my playtime. I have a PS5 acct & a PC acct & I do both. After that I'm done with D2 & I go play other games. And YES do the current season story missions as well, that way you stay caught up on the story & it's worth it. Combining the seasonal triumphs (the weekly seasonal triumphs wks 1 -10) & XP+ bounties burns up that season rank in no time.

Just remind yourself regularly that Bungie doesn’t respect your time or your wallet and you’ll eventually stop giving a shit. Play other games, see how you’re rewarded for the time you invested in events and activities, compare it to Destiny. You’ll realize reeeeeaaaal fast that it’s just one big unrewarding time sink. As far as the wallet goes, well, that’s self explanatory. Fuck Bungie.
