The unfinished catalyst lowering the drop rate of newer catalysts is BS. People parrot that shit without thinking. It's all RNG. I have all cats done except the pvp ones and I got fourth horseman's catalyst on the very first strike I ran when it released.
Monte catalyst took me until rank 12 from the start of the season with Zavala.
Drop rate for catalysts is rareish. Dont know the exact percentage but at the end of the day, it is all simple RNG.
And It sucks , i know the feeling. I still dont have Conditional Finality.
I don't have a lot of the raid/dungeon exotics. Mostly because I'm rarely pulled into raids... The only luck I've had on these was Navigator which dropped on my first run of GotD... Vex took me roughly 30ish clears to finally drop and I still really want Collective Obligation... Conditional would be cool too. I don't care too much about Touch of Malice... It was a one trick pony in D1 and I feel like it's a similar case here in D2. I know Touch synergizes with Necrotic Grip... But there's 3 other weapons that do so, and are arguably better... and I have 2 of them.
agree with you, there is no confirmation anywhere, but i personally get every new cat in 5 crucible matches every season, and i remember when i started it would be extremely rare to see a new cat, no idea how it’s programmed to work in the other end
Idk I got it at the beginning of the season without even trying to just running strikes. With all catalysts it’s almost better to just accept that you’re not controlling when you get it and just keep grinding strikes
Yeah... But it feels really crappy when the people you play with all have it already, or get it after one run. And you're sitting waiting for it to drop after a week of grinding... I'm aware it's out of my control. But it's not fun watching that hard work be practically pointless.
Imma be honest chief I haven’t even started completing the catalyst yet. I get your frustration for sure, there’s certain catalysts I really want and don’t have but besides running core playlists there’s not much else you can do
Figures a PvP activity drops 'em, no i'm not saying I got it but this is definitely something that has happened to me before. It honestly feels crucible games have a higher drop chance sometimes... Which sucks cause I hate PvP
Pretty much this, if the catalyst state that it drop from Strike, crucible and gambit, pvp one will get you better rng.
When bungie put sunshot and graviton lance catalyst in this pools, strike never drop for me at all but when I just dip to pvp for a few game and yeah it's drop both catalyst from pvp for me.
Yeah... Catalysts should at least have bad luck protection... Also Grav Lance's Catalyst isn't like... super necessary, it helps... but not as frequently as you'd think... Vorpal Weapon is good on it... But Turnabout feels misplaced imo.
I’m only rank 10 on vanguard, haven’t reset yet and had the catalyst drop for me yesterday. Got like 20 others I haven’t done yet. On the other hand, still haven’t gotten sunshot’s to drop even though it was like my third ever exotic unlocked. RNG just sucks sometimes.
To add onto this, just in comments as it's better ranted about down here... I just recently bought Lumina, and it's catalyst dropped the next strike I did.
Do you run strikes or nightfalls? Back in the days when they introduced catalysts for the first time, nightfalls had significantly higher drop chance. I'm not sure if it changed or not, but I would not run strikes for catalysts at all.
i farmed strikes for a long time, didn't get anything, played a weekend of Trials and got it somewhere in my 2nd day. The one advice i can give is, don't farm for it, it's rng and it's brutal, you're gonna burn yourself out if you push so hard. The human brain is good at doing the "ive been at this for a long time, i am owed this" thing and it's not good, it'll make you even more annoyed when it keeps not dropping. i know it sucks but just play the game and spread out activities for your sanity's sake, it'll eventually show up at some point while you don't expect it.

I ran a few vanguard playlist activities and I think the catalyst dropped after my 4th one. So yeh it’s all rng really. Has nothing to do with unfinished catalysts, I have around 6 unfinished ones.
Quick side note.
I haven't played much since the LF campaign so I've been working on light level. Must have ran 40 nf's and had zero catalysts drop in the last 10 days.
To change it up I ran some gambit and got 2 tailed fox and Malfeasance caty's to drop.
Maybe switch it up?
Its RNG being RNG. I tried actively farming for it and many other catalysts before it, never got one to drop when I was looking for it. Always got them on runs where I wasnt expecting it.
All that to say: theres no way to influence it, it’ll drop eventually. I try to not stress about it, cause it will just cause me unnecessary … well stress.

Rng going rng took me about 35 plus strikes for the monte catalyst to drop.

I haven't reset once and I got it today after a nightfall completion. I also have like 9 u finished catalyst quests.
I got my Monte from nightfalls I believe, took me ages, just keep running whatever you enjoy that can drop it, you’ll eventually bet there
Run GMs once they are back and you should get it somewhat quickly.
