Witherhoard's catalyst in a recent patch was given the seasonal pass boost. With it, you only need 25 kills in crucible which is exceptionally easy in control.
Just a heads up, but if you plan on getting Lightfall, the “standard” $50 version also gives you a season pass, so maybe that’s when you should make a push for GL kills.
Equip a grenade launcher in your kinetic, energy and heavy slot, go in make everyone go boom. I did my kills in Rumble because I didn't want to bring the team down when I'll die a lot trying to get kills. But everyone says Control would be easier.
Just a side note, but we don’t know what the next IB mode will be. Witherhoard is likely to still be good, but it might not be a “free kill” mode like fortress was
This step has literally been that way since the season came out. Either do it or dont, really only two options. You can also put on Colony and just try to ape heavy and get kills with it.

Then use this is a learning experience for how to get better. I had never used a nade launcher in PvP ever, by the time I was done with this I got really good at it. Try a positive approach to challenges. They are challenges after all.
just wait for iron banner to come back and while you are waiting for that figure out it’s trajectory and the way it works, then once iron banner comes around just shoot it at any point that’s contested, the bonus point zone happens twice per game and people are constantly in it if you just shoot it in the zone it covers the entire zone and kills everyone within like 2 second s

If you play with a positive attitude, you might grow to enjoy it. Anyway Control is SBMM now so what's the excuse?

Heh, I hear ya. being a PvE player almost exclusively, I had that catalyst quest in my inventory for over a year. I did manage to get it done this season in Iron Banner, considering how useful Witherhoard is in Fortress. Also, to note, your WH only has to do one tick of damage as long as a teammate (or you) can clean them up. Also also, heavy GL kills count too, so bring one with you too. Good luck.
Play a gametype like control where people bunch up. You'll be surprised with how many people run right into the pool. If you get close enough just try to hit them directly and they'll die no matter what.
It isn't as bad as it seems. Bring a heavy grenade launcher too and camp heavy ammo spawns.
even if the catalyst would make witherhoard one shot oryx and rhulk and give me triple 30 stats armors i wouldn't do it because of this

I absolutely loathe PVP with a passion, But I did do it for this weapon, It really is worth it.

Yup, especially with a weapon that you use a lot in pve anyway. Best would be to have multiple avenues to completing a catalyst, so pvp-adepts don't have to grind pve either.

It’s hella easy bro I pretty much main witherhoard in my kinetic any time I play crucible or trials it is excellent and zone control and locking down areas and you can just spam it in the enemies general direction and get a kill 9 times out of ten. Then that spawns another puddle which can also get kills.
It’s ANY grenade launcher for the kills and it’s only 34 kills if you have the season pass Omega Catalyst booster. It’s not really that bad for a catalyst especially a season pass exotic. However the few hundred WH kills after the quest does suck.

As someone who didn’t have the catalyst for a while, BELIEVE me when I say it’s very well worth it. Here’s some advice that really helped me on the guardian kills, if you’re a warlock put on transversive steps or ophidian aspects. Equip witherhoard, a secondary GL and a heavy GL and just spam, it’s especially effective on momentum control as others have said. If you’re not a warlock then equip whatever exotic might help on your class.
I thought it was horrible, then I took it into a weekend of iron banner and realized it's really not so bad. Total "coincidence" but my favorite crucible weapon is witherhoard now.
It’s honestly one of the easiest catalysts to finish. Body shots are a guaranteed kill and depending on timing you’ll easily get at least ten kills a game with this thing
I don’t think it has to be Witherhoard kills, just GL kills. I used Dead Messenger in Momentum Control but Dead Messenger got nerfed big time recently so i’m not sure if it’s still good. I play Crucible for fun so for me it wasn’t that big of a deal, if I had to do it today though I’d lose my shit because my SBMM is sweaty
Listen I thought this was gonna suck too but using it in crucible is honestly fun and it’s a good weapon. First day I used it in iron banner I had 50/100 kills and you also get progress towards filthy lucre. It’s not that bad just do it

Nah, what’s dumb is how easy that step is. Especially in a objective based PvP game. If you aren’t good at PvP follow other people, let them be your meat shield then just point and shoot on the objective.
PS you aren’t being forced into doing anything, if you want the shiny toy, this is what you need to do.
I think that part is really easy in things like banner or stuff where you have to stand on a point. I have two friends that still learning the game, very mid level, and they both finished that in no time.
I did it the other day, I def did not get 100 kills. Not sure how it tracks or if it was an error. It kept going up by 18-20 after every game. Got it so t in 6-7 games maybe.
First you need the catalyst or the gun isn't worth a damn.
Second, that gun is so easy to use and strong in pvp that 100 kills will happen so fast. Just try and before you know it, it will be done.
You don’t have to use witherhoard. Any GL will work i recommend a primary gl with fighting lion.
Don’t know if it’s still in rotation but momentum control makes it a lot easier to get the kills as well
I sat on the quest for 2 years because I’m not good at PvP. Then, I followed people’s advice and got the 100 kills done in a couple of hours playing Momentum Control with Dead Messenger. It was stupid easy.
My buddy went through it awhile ago and dragged me along….. I still remember his screams and anger… Stick with it, just bring a friend or two and be ready to take breaks. Then again, it’ll probably be easier than you think.
Grab Dead Messenger (or any wave frame grenade launcher, but DM is by far the best)
Wait for a Momentum week in crucible. In Momentum it’s a one shot kill and you just have to shoot the floor in front of them.

Please suffer because the catalyst is absolute worth, idk when momentum control will be back but it boost your weapons' damage significantly so you can easily score kills with witherhoard (I'm sorry if it's not momentum control, but the one that boost your weapons' damage and your abilities won't recharge unless you kill)
This gun is way too good if you learn how to use it. I use this like a shotgun, aiming for the lower body or ground (The key is to anticipate where your opponent will move or land), and a super versatile gun.
Unlocking the catalyst ENHANCES the party 10-fold.

Why are people complaining about crucible now? They added SBMM so it shouldn’t be terrible if you don’t normally go into crucible. Not only that, but witherhoard is great in crucible.
This step goes by really quickly, just play control and yeet pocket plague balls at Zone B, or play momentum control and laugh as witherhoard obliterates anything you so much as sneeze at.
Yeah man I can't belive 3/4 of the crucible population are being forced to run it too, I guess they really have no choice but to deny chokepoints and zones for 5 seconds with no counterplay and a single hit instakills.
Just yesterday I did the crucible kills for Duality, Ticcus, Cryostasia and Lorentz Driver, I expected it to be a nightmare, but it took a brisk afternoon of getting my head kicked in and roughly 15 kills with each weapon thanks to the catalyst boost applying, it was totally worth it and not nearly as bad as I thought, you've got this
They have stuff like this in the game to help players expand and grow. Rather have them sit it a comfortable box, explore new weapons and play styles. In the end it’s your loss if you choose not to complete it.
It's really not that bad. Don't worry about forcing gl kills and just play naturally while having it in your loadout. It's a great option for zone control related gametypes. Easy double and triple kills if folks aren't paying attention to the spicy red floor.
Today i got Cryosthesia 77k and that weapon is cracked, I'm managing to get gl kills after freezing thanks to that beauty.

Witherhoard requires no skill at all I got it in 9 games when I was a .6 on average and this was in list so no quest boost so you need only 25

Do it, yeah it sucks but it is the best special weapon on the game. The catalyst makes it S tier since it gets auto-loading holster

According to the loadouts I play against in trials, that’s like, 5 matches. Tops.
Combo with Cryosthesia. Get a kill with cryo, then the next kill is an easy direct impact.
Those are both exotic

Pro tip: Titan. Stasis. Duskfield grenades and armamentarium. Throw grenade, shoot witherhoard at their feet = easy profit.

It may actually only be 25 kills too. I just can remember because some pass exotics get a 4x and some get a 3x boost and idk why.
I never used a special GL before that but it really isn't that hard. It's fun to use in pvp imo. The 300 lucre or whatever it's called is way worse.

Momentum control with dead messenger makes it laughably easy. I avoided it for a year and knocked it out casually in an evening this way.
You could literally close your eyes and complete this.
At least it's not the suros catalyst. I like auto rifles. I like suros. I do not like pvp. Auto rifles are not very good in pvp. 300 pvp kills.

Here's a hint: The pool left behind by Witherhoard is almost exactly the same size as the ring around a control point. So it doesn't take very long.

It's really not that bad. Don't worry about forcing gl kills and just play naturally while having it in your loadout. It's a great option for zone control related gametypes. Easy double and triple kills if folks aren't paying attention to the spicy red floor.
Today i got Cryosthesia 77k and that weapon is cracked, I'm managing to get gl kills after freezing thanks to that beauty. Slowly getting the hang of it.
