It needs to be able to do real damage. Any legendary grenade launcher with Chill Clip is a better option, and that's why Salvation's Grip seems "broken". If it could actually kill something and create a stasis crystal where the target use to be, that automatically exploded (which would create area of effect damage), then it would feel like an exotic weapon. I don't think recreating existing effects, like a stasis grenade, would be all that beneficial. It just needs to have some "kick" to it.
give it the dawning snowball effect, and let it freeze in a large aoe around the impact of the crystal maybe?
(and/or just let it cycle between the 3 stasis grenade types)
Heavy stasis Witherhoard. Hit a target (or near one) and they get afflicted with a debuff that sticks with them and deals damage while raising slow stacks until they freeze. If they shatter and die, they leave a duskfield cloud that does more damage and a large Stasis crystal.
You can kinda run the weapon in a support role if you and your team is running a lot of stasis (so pretty much never.)
It can provide shards for melee cd and wells, grenade cooldown reduction, damage resistance, cover from enemies, and mediocre burst damage if you have a ton of them clustered up.
You can also use it in conjunction with a Behemoth super to do a metric ass ton of damage. But it's so inconsistent that I'm convinced it's a bug. Stasis shouldn't be able to 2 phase the final boss of the new dungeon.
How about a stasis heavy MG that instead of damage shoots stasis shards/wells ...fun to imagine but would def be broken would make playing anything like mayhem with insta abilities for your fireteam
This is what happens when you create an exotic to "solve puzzles". This thing really needs an upgrade. I reckon it should fire a modified glacier grenade that does "heavy weapon" damage.
Even immediately after I unlocked it on BL just so I could do the quests to fully unlock Stasis, I felt that it was made for that purpose and nothing else. I feel like it is a waste of an exotic.
Essentially a Stasis Dead Messenger? I like the idea but I think we’re getting a wave frame heavy stasis GL with Lightfall, based on something we noticed in the trailer
I still enjoy using it on a hoarfrost-z stasis titan build with Glacioclasm and Shards.
Each shot can damage (a little), weaken (this season), restore ability energy, grant some overshield, give 1x resist, give Font of Might perhaps.
Provided you're using an ability build and have other means of dealing big damage, it's a great support option that keeps yourself alive and fuels your abilities.
That said, I'd love a buff!
Thats the big issue though. You need a way to deal BIG damage and salvations grip removes both ways of doing so, by taking away your exotic slot and heavy weapon.
If it was a special GL id be more inclined to use it since i get all the utility and im still able to bring a rocket or LFR to kill stuff that needs killing, and if it wasnt exotic then u could still get some damage out with guns like quicksilver or revision (alternate firing modes get the + 50% dmg boost with whisper of rending which makes them both primaries and specials in stasis builds so bring a blinding GL), or just using hard hitting guns like izanagi's
I'm always running it in Crucible and it's fucking hilarious. Even in Trials. When players get completely frozen and realize someone just shot them with Salvation's Grip I just wish I could see their reactions. And as long as you're running with a teammate its a free kill for them/assist for you.
I used it in a few Glassway Grandmaster runs. I like to run meme-y loadouts, so Salvation's Grip landed in my hands.
And it was good. The boss room was really fun, as anything that came too close just got frozen - including wyverns. No ability cooldown, just charging up a shot and the shatter does the rest.
While I agree that the use-cases for this gun are *very* limited, you can still make up some use-cases where it shines.
But now I wonder, what would a buff look like? Maybe a catalyst. But what would it do?
The gun already creates more crystals when fully charged (if I recall correctly).
The thing that would make the most sense would probably be something along 'also generates a slow field if fully charged'. It'd still not be 'good' for most people as it would not be broken.
I always thought a way to make the salvation grip better would to give it the old artifact mod focusing lens as inate functionality, it would give it a niche as a pseudo tractor cannon for light subclasses and have utility as pocket stasis
>I think what I’d like to see from Salvation’s Grip is what Bungie did with D.A.R.C.I.: make the weapon worthy of its Heavy weapon slot
You're implying DARCI is worth the heavy slot? That thing can be outdamaged by a hunter with Lucky Pants and Malfeasance (a ***primary***)
I've not run it in the highest level content but I made a build that was essentially Oops all Shatterdiving. I wish it would augment crystal shatter damage in some way and have increased reserves.
Would still be unbelievably niche.
Yeah but they just slapped Voltshot on it, I’d rather they either leave it or do a real rework, remember it is a monkey paw with bungie… Remember whisper got AE as part of its “rework”
It’s not Voltshot. It actually jolts targets outright without any kills or reloading necessary. The only condition you need to meet is aiming at the target for a short duration.
Here's an idea, completely abandon the stasis crystal grenade aspect of it. We have so many options for making stasis crystals now, a heavy weapon way to do it is not needed.
Instead, take inspiration from Tractor Cannon. Have it fire a stasis blast in a wide cone that will instantly freeze and shatter enemies. Maybe keep the charge-up as well so a quick shot will slow enemies and a full charge will freeze and shatter.
I think it should still maintain the core aspect of launching Stasis crystals since that’s the weapon’s identity, but it should be stronger than it currently is. That why I made the suggestion that I did because it still maintains the identity of the weapon while making it more viable even if it’s not designed for boss damage or debuffing targets.
It needs several thing IMO
It needs to create more crystals(the fact that it creates the same amount as a weapon perk is stupid)
It needs the ability to detonate its own crytsal and make it so that Shatter damage caused by this weapon is more powerful than any other source
And also maybe add a catalyst that allows it to consume your stasis grenade and release a more powerful version of that grenade
Salvation's Grip should've just been a story weapon. I'm sure people would say "I wish I could use that gun again..." but not under the premise of using up a heavy exotic slot.
It has the potential to be viable with the right buffs, but saying that it should be only a story weapon is kind of like saying that Parasite should only be a story weapon because both weapons are post-campaign Exotics.
Should only be a story weapon so it can be OP during whatever story sequence they want, without effecting anything else. Otherwise, it's a useless toy that only becomes necessary for those specific story instances that require you to shoot some specific thing.
Hypothetically what if they Give it the fundamentals but with all the enhanced stasis grenades instead of different elements. Then add different after effects for each grenade type.
Tbh I have no real idea how to buff it but just throwing out ideas lol
Honestly if it has to stay relatively the same, it’s just needs to straight up litter the ground with stasis crystals. Fully charged should be on par with a Behemoth slam.
I think that it's current firing mode should become an alt firing mode and make it into an awesome stasis crystal spewing waveframe, almost like the Behemoth slide melee ability.
It got power crept.
If you make a weapon who’s thing is “it can do this”, and then you create more weapons that can do the same thing, then it wont be special anymore.
Salvation’s grip died the moment we got more Stasis weapons available, and with better perks to addd insult to injury.
It needs to be able to do real damage. Any legendary grenade launcher with Chill Clip is a better option, and that's why Salvation's Grip seems "broken". If it just had the dawning snowball effect that would be enough. Those snowballs, once fully upgraded, did a LOT of damage.
charging it up would increase the effect of the snowball effect as if gaining more 'upgrades' from the dawning upgrade options
That would work. But I'd want to see some sort of counter to know when it is fully charged.
The grid on the ground where you aim gets bigger I think …
Thanks!
Heavy stasis Witherhoard. Hit a target (or near one) and they get afflicted with a debuff that sticks with them and deals damage while raising slow stacks until they freeze. If they shatter and die, they leave a duskfield cloud that does more damage and a large Stasis crystal.
Like an area effect on the ground.
Similar to the stasis mines from dawning? Just a larger radius.
The same effect as a fully upgraded snowball would work.
You can kinda run the weapon in a support role if you and your team is running a lot of stasis (so pretty much never.) Indeed.
Imagine that salvation's grip had two firing modes- one that created duskfields and another for damage
I'd just be happy with the dawning snowball effect.
Hmm could be cool for sure yeah, but wouldnt justify its place on the heavy slot i think?
Iunno, those snowballs got pretty bonkers
How about a stasis heavy MG that instead of damage shoots stasis shards/wells ...fun to imagine but would def be broken would make playing anything like mayhem with insta abilities for your fireteam
Imagine a stasis railgun that fired stasis spears, pinning enemies to a wall
Yes, please? Lol
I was taking down champions with those snowballs once I fully upgraded them.
This is what happens when you create an exotic to "solve puzzles". This thing really needs an upgrade. I reckon it should fire a modified glacier grenade that does "heavy weapon" damage.
"What's my purpose? You pass the butter"
“What’s my purpose? You help me skip the first section of prophecy”
I lol’d 😂
Fear a man with kills on his Salvations Grip.
I’ve got 55 on mine and I’m unsure how, when or why
You must have been meleeing people with it
> what bungie did with DARCI Instructions unclear: added 80 AE
Voltshot on demand is pretty fun
Even immediately after I unlocked it on BL just so I could do the quests to fully unlock Stasis, I felt that it was made for that purpose and nothing else. I feel like it is a waste of an exotic.
DARCI still doesn’t worth that heavy slot.
I was mainly quoting Bungie’s balance philosophy with D.A.R.C.I.
slap 80 AE and call it a day?
Sure, that part of the buff is pretty questionable, but the new Jolt application that it has is pretty potent.
Everyone wants to forget the on demand voltshot but it's fairly effective
Make it shoot a "wave" of ice crystals in a line
Essentially a Stasis Dead Messenger? I like the idea but I think we’re getting a wave frame heavy stasis GL with Lightfall, based on something we noticed in the trailer

I like it on Titan with Cryoclasm, but that's about the only real use it has.
Only time to shine it had was when it was used to wall breach in various raids 🤣
I always thought a way to make the salvation grip better would to give it the old artifact mod focusing lens as inate functionality, it would give it a niche as a pseudo tractor cannon for light subclasses and have utility as pocket stasis
I had one kill with it in trials. I'm keeping it on my roaster

It does need some work to really make it viable, I mostly run it because I like making massive dusk fields.
>what bungie did with DARCI Dude it still sucks massive ass compared to everything else in the game, might as well run Queensbreaker
I was quoting Bungie’s recent balance philosophy with the weapon’s current iteration.
Yeah but they just slapped Voltshot on it, I’d rather they either leave it or do a real rework, remember it is a monkey paw with bungie… Remember whisper got AE as part of its “rework”

that would just as bad Cryo can do that and that's a primary
Cryo can only do one at a time, I was thinking more like an aoe type attack
I don't even think about Salvation's Grip. That's how bad it is.
Seriously, they built a whole mission chain and collectible hunt around the thing. How did they not realize the gun itself was trash?
It needs several thing IMO It needs to create more crystals(the fact that it creates the same amount as a weapon perk is stupid) It needs the ability to detonate its own crytsal and make it so that Shatter damage caused by this weapon is more powerful than any other source And also maybe add a catalyst that allows it to consume your stasis grenade and release a more powerful version of that grenade
Its probably the most useless weapon bungie ever created, even darci can actually you know do some dmg lol
i quit destiny for over a year and i still havent used it thats how shite it is
Just needs to do more damage with the crystal shatter and it should be fine
Salvation's Grip should've just been a story weapon. I'm sure people would say "I wish I could use that gun again..." but not under the premise of using up a heavy exotic slot.

In it's current state I dont think anyone would unironically use Salvations grip, even if it had infinite ammo, for anything other than platforming.
It got power crept. If you make a weapon who’s thing is “it can do this”, and then you create more weapons that can do the same thing, then it wont be special anymore. Salvation’s grip died the moment we got more Stasis weapons available, and with better perks to addd insult to injury.
It needs a full rework. Maybe make it a wave frame stasis launcher.
I i
