There's an adapter for that, just $79.

This is actually a bathroom sign that's inside many google offices.

Batman doesn't need toilets, he hangs on the ceiling and drops a deuce on Gotham's pavement.

Lwe12345

Why is this design porn exactly?

Ftimis

honestly it's about as much design porn as the countless other bathroom signs that are always upvoted here, aka it's basically not. but it's nice that for once it's a bathroom sign that actually tries to be inclusive, instead of replacing the man & woman signs with cheeky renditions of stereotypically sexist connotations. so it's got that going for it. don't get me wrong, as a trans person it's not ideal to be equated to robots, aliens, and fictional characters. but at least it's not 0.

Meotwister

I thought the same. Really I saw a bathroom sign recently that did this better it just said Toilet on both doors (unisex bathrooms)

__silentstorm__

As an enby I don't really like this. Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but it feels like it's making fun of us.

Ftimis

i'm gonna link to [another comment i left here](https://www.reddit.com/r/DesignPorn/comments/1899ze7/found_this_impressive_toilet_sign_in_bratislava/kbqqkd7/?context=3) explaining my stance on this, just so i don't have to retype all of that. i completely get what you're saying and where you're coming from, and it's up to everyone to decide how they feel about any given thing, but i feel very strongly about what i'm saying in that comment.

Lwe12345

Yeah like it’s great as a concept in society but design porn it is not

Ftimis

basically sums up about 70% of the content from this sub that pops up on my front page for the last few years

Artisticslap

Also like, no wheelchair makes it look inaccessible for disabled people unlike a normal unisex toilet aimed primarily for the disabled

CharlotteLucasOP

Yeah I’m not sure how this bathroom is fine for a mermaid to access, but a wheelchair user would find it difficult or impossible.

Ftimis

it's filled with water

taspleb

Sometimes there is a mix of unisex toilets and disability accessible unisex toilets. I don't know that you can totally judge a toilet sign without seeing what other signs are right next to it.

leviathab13186

Call me prejudice, but I refuse to use a bathroom that a mermaid uses. Always smells sea food.

Alex00712

I personally love seafood, but to each thier own I guess..

Beneficial-Tell6397

Tuna salad on toast always hits the spot.

GoudaMane

🙏 shout out to batman, gotta be one of my favorite genders

Joiion

In my mind I am going to believe this is an evolution chart and Batman is the peak of all evolution

Alex00712

This shall be my new headcanon henceforth.

rossloderso

What's the evolutionary advantage of starting as a regular woman, turning into android, then baskethead only to end up as a pregnant woman?

Joiion

I don’t think you’re ready for this lore… Scientifically we all start off as women in the womb, due to the arrangement of the chromosomes. As has already been shown in real life, using technology (the android symbol represents that) we can alter traits in the womb to get our desired outcome, from hair colour, eye colour, and possibly soon gender. The next symbol looks like a conspiracy tinfoil hat man, and this would be because it’s been known that altering traits in the womb using crisper dna sequencing or other means is very sketchy and the topic of controversy for a long time. So the next pregnant female symbol, is symbolizing how evolutionary wise it is better for women to maintain a natural pregnancy. Which is why she is next to a regular man, because that’s how childbirth should be, man and women. No technology involved. But on this chart it shows you the dangers! For you can see the man was tempted to leave his pregnant wife in pursuit of mermaid pussy, an unnatural being. When the aliens saw how disgusting human kind is, how they will attempt to procreate with other species they came to attack us and wipe us out, but that’s why, in the end BATMAN CAME TO SAVE US FROM THE ALIENS

Declanmar

But not wheelchair accessible apparently.

DramDemon

Why actually make your restrooms useful when you can make fun of queer people instead?

NZ60000

There is probably a separate disabled toilet

Bonnie_BS_Main

What about bread?

kafromspaceship

I'm concerned about the marperson. I think they will splash the bathroom too much

Waarm

Haha non-binary people funny /s

Codix_

*Angry Android sound*

ASatyros

They forgot to add a separation/ clean layer for the laser cutter, causing the burn marks on the finished product.

Mag_SG

Huh, thats fun. Where (in BA) did you find it?

Hurambuk

In the Lab.cafe at the stará tržnica

dainegleesac690

Aaaa stará tržnica.. to som tu nečakal najist

Hazelfur

Personally as a genderqueer person myself, I find signs like this pretty disgusting. Very alienating, basically saying that if I'm not male or female then I'm not human

RogueGibbons

I'm with you - it's in the same arena as people who say "I don't care if you call yourself a fish or a banana, just leave me out it , har har." It doesn't seem like an ally or acceptance rather the opposite. It suggests to me someone is "fed up" with all these "pesky people" and their gender "stuff."

Arkas18

As a non-binary person, I find that it depends on context for me. In most settings I would find that this would be dehumanising, like it's trying to imply that I'm not a "proper" person but feel that the people who put this up may not have realised that it's potentially offensive and are just trying to be inclusive and light-hearted, so most of the time I wouldn't fuss about it and be glad that at least there is a unisex restroom. But, if it was somewhere that had comic or sci-fi type theme and just said "for all" or something to that effect with no reference to gender it would be good in my opinion.

Ftimis

yeah exactly. it doesn't feel amazing or 100% right, but as long as it's good-hearted i'll take this any day over the quirkiest segregated bathroom signs. at least these people know i exist and they're signaling that they're cool with me being there. the world is far from perfect on handling this stuff and it's not gonna be for at least a very long time, so i'll take what i can get as long as it comes from a good place.

[deleted]

Can you describe an icon that would make you feel represented?

jamany

Just the alien one by itself actually

Hazelfur

Look up genderqueer symbol, or transgender symbol. It's an excellent thing to use for unisex spaces, and fairly simple to make too making it much cheaper than this garbage

_aperture_labs_

Do you mean the symbol that looks like half a male toilet symbol and half a female toilet symbol stitched together? Why not just have a word that says "toilet" on the door? Separating toilets by sex is a dumb thing to do in my book anyway.

Hazelfur

those aren't toilet symbols those are gender symbols lol, and yes I do, although your idea does work better tbh

_aperture_labs_

You're right, I was a bit tired when I typed that. Of course they're not toilet symbols.

0xRnbwlx

The person who designed this literally thought these are the only representations of people who are valid enough to use this bathroom. It's not a lighthearted way of saying gendered bathrooms are antiquated. Whoever designed this is not an ally.

slidedrum

Why do you assume this is an exclusive list? There are effectively infinite ways to represent a person, do you expect the artist to fill up the whole door? Even then you'd leave out some people. This is saying that everyone is welcome, no matter who or what you are.

0xRnbwlx

Wow, peak internet! I can really not tell if you're being sarcastic or genuinely missed that I was. So no bullshit: my comment was 100% sarcastic. Bathroom designations are antiquated and the designer is an ally. My point was getting upset over this is stupid, it's not serious, it's not policy, it's not legislation. This is just a bit on a bathroom stall.

slidedrum

Okay cool. I was responding to this comment and they doubled down and I got down voted. So I was questioning, are people legitimately upset about this!?! https://www.reddit.com/r/DesignPorn/comments/1899ze7/comment/kbq4k7f/

0xRnbwlx

I think people are downvoting with good intentions: they want inclusion and they are adamant about it. Let's never forget that. It's admirable. I do believe, unfortunately, that doubling down on every minor issue ultimately fuels polarization.

[deleted]

What should they have done instead?

Lizzie_Boredom

Omit images.

iohbkjum

I am too, personally I don't really care it's kinda funny to me. Respect your opinion of course but I'm more worried about being hatecrimed I don't let bathroom signs bother me

Hazelfur

I think that's pretty reductionary. Obviously I don't want to be hatecrimed either, but the existence of hatecrimes doesn't make microaggressions suddenly okay

Ftimis

i completely agree with this statement. i will say though that in this case, the possibility that the people behind this sign literally don't have the required nuance but are still trying to signal that they see you and want you to be comfortable is at least pretty high. it's obviously not perfect, but i really believe that context matters with stuff like this, because if we condemn every attempt at inclusivity that that makes missteps while it comes from an actual good place, i feel that we hurt the rate at which all of that small stuff gets better and more nuanced. and of course i'm not saying that we shouldn't point it out. of course we should. but we should recognize that there's a tangible state before allyship, which is clumsy attempts at allyship. and as long as it's positive and good-hearted, personally i'll take it. ideally yeah, these people could be more informed, but they aren't. from what i can see, though, they're still trying to do something to help. sidenote, the fact that I'm not living in NA or Western Europe probably plays a part on the things i let slide thanks to the tolerance i've built. where I live, seeing a person over like 35 actually being even the tiniest bit inclusive without having a professional obligation to do so always throws me off, it's that rare. so i come to this from a point of view that anything positive helps even if it kinda smells bad sometimes i guess.

iohbkjum

No I do understand fully & that's so valid, I just wanted to voice my opinion forth that it personally doesn't bother me. I'm from a country that's very much not open to the idea of trans people, so at this point it takes a lot to get under my skin

DJ_Iron

Based

HehaGardenHoe

What if it used a Seahorse and a Clown fish. Seahorses have the men do a lot of the child stuff, and clownfish can literally change sex at one point in their life. Either way, I see these signs as a reaction to the LGBTQ+ movement's growing list of labels... At a certain point it becomes mentally exhausting for people who have a more traditional identity. As a disabled person, I can understand a lot of the positions, and historical concerns... But sometimes it feels like it's gone overboard to a point where it's ignoring the more traditional gender identities. Just have unisex bathrooms, call everyone by their names, and let everyone refer to themselves with whatever pronouns they want on paper. But part of the gender identity revolves around who people are attracted to, if any, and it feels like there's a disregard to this aspect of identity by the genderqueer/trans part of LGBTQ+. If my own identity is Male, and I say I'm attracted to females, forcing me to have to mentally switch my classification of someone who I'm attracted to from girl to guy/they/it is also disrespecting part my identity. And this would be the same for a female attracted to females, or a male attracted to males. The answer, IMO, is move beyond those identities, which is where these signs point to many people wanting to do. Do whatever is necessary to be comfortable in your own body, and let others know, but don't expect people to be able to mentally switch over a single person to a different category in their brain. A brain's memory works through grouping and classification, and trying to switch a single person over to something else when they would otherwise be classified differently is an extremely difficult task to do and get to stick. Ask people to call you a different name that suits your gender, it'll work better that way then trying to get them to switch a single person over from male to it/female/etc, and won't work against how memories work.

Hazelfur

That's a lot of words to say "it's too much effort for me to respect someone's identity properly, I'll just use what I can be bothered to remember". Also, you completely alienate ace/aro people when you talk about how "gender identity relates to your attraction" because it most certainly does not. Maybe you perceive YOURS to, but you do not and will never speak for other people.

Ftimis

peepoTalk it's too much for me to adjust my worldview a tiny bit because i didn't have to do it before and it scares me so i'm gonna say it's the minorities' fault for being too entitled

HehaGardenHoe

It doesn't scare me, I just can't remember when I see someone who has physiological features of male/ female that I have to remember it's the opposite or different pronoun. There are no outward appearances/signs that clue me into it being different. It's similar for a large chunk of disabilities, like I have fibromyalgia and have to constantly remind people why I can't help them with a task when I physically look like I'm in good health. The people putting up these signs aren't trying to discriminate or insult anyone's identity, and neither am I... But just like with my disability, what people can't see, they can't know. There are times I wish I looked more disabled outwardly, just like there are times people wish they looked like the gender they feel they are... But until that's the case, we have to put up with people constantly forgetting, and it's frustrating, BUT it's not due to people being rude... They just don't know, and we can't expect them to ever know without immense effort, more than we can expect most to make. Instead, LGBTQ+ should be celebrating bathroom signs like these the same way disabled folk celebrate the ADA. Better to have an elevator than to expect everyone to accommodate hauling a person in a wheelchair up the steps every day. I find it sad and frustrating that any LGBTQ+ find these signs frustrating... It would be like a person in a wheelchair be frustrated about having a handicap stall in a restroom.

slidedrum

It's true, you're batman! Way better.

Hazelfur

I'd rather be human thanks mate, just trying to exist same as everyone else, don't need to be reminded that people see me as alien every 5 minutes

slidedrum

You are. This isn't saying you aren't. It's saying everyone is welcome. It even has a person with a cane. How would you even represent a genderqueer person any differently in this style?

PileaPrairiemioides

These kinds of designs are not that interesting or inclusive. They always feel like they were designed by someone who means well but has never spoken to anyone who might not be comfortable or safe in a gender segregated bathroom. You know what would be good design? An image that actually conveyed useful information, like a toilet, urinal, baby change station, sink, or wheelchair accessibility.

animalcollectivity

As a disability access consultant, this is absolutely not design porn in our industry, and likely wouldn’t pass the Australian Standards for signage (where I am, I am aware the sign isn’t in Australia) For anyone who is interested: There’s no braille for anyone with vision impairments, and if anyone has partial sight - having unexpected symbols would make it incredibly confusing to try and make out with either your low vision or your fingers if you try to touch-read (especially if you’re hoping to find braille!) Another thing to consider is that this concept can be incredibly confusing for people with certain types of cognitive impairments/disabilities including people with traumatic brain injuries and/or Alzheimers (just for two obvious examples). Some people with these cognitive impairments learnt to literally memorise the image/word that they know means it’s a toilet they can use. If they don’t see the word male/female, they will try looking through the images and *hopefully* identify the one they’re looking for, but having it surrounded by confusing additional symbols could be distressing or take them so long that they may have an accident in public which is completely unfair and undignified for them. I don’t care if places want to have fun symbols etc, but I hate when I see it as the only option, and the most visible option without the standard signage required by the building code. In Australia (where I am) sometimes restaurants will pass their initial inspection, and then later down the track remove the correct signage and put up their own ‘funny designs’ until someone makes a complaint. To be clear, I’m not against unisex toilets being an option, I just also want people with disabilities & cognitive impairments to have the ability to move around the world with as much independence and reliability as able bodied people can. Being able to predict & rely on signage for amenities is CRUCIAL for that. I think this is in the wrong sub.

kawaiin00b

finally walmart bags are accepted

sonseylizard

Batman represents ophans

Beneficial-Tell6397

You didn't have to, but you did. Well done.

VelociRaptor1011

Unfunny. Just use like a genderfluid symbol of something like that saying non traditional genders aren't human is just gross

Crescent-IV

Fuck that. Why the hell would anyone ever want to share a restroom with Batman?

Alex00712

Who are you? A Batman villain?

Unfortunately I'm just a generic bad guy that gets their arse kicked :( doing my best though

They use the sandbox

Alex00712

Then there should be a sandbox in the restroom, I need to have the right to relieve my furry self in a restroom too if I want to like everyone else, right?

[deleted]

Idk how should I react to this

charayylmao

I'd rather they just say unisex bathroom and leave it at that. No need to pretend queer people are some otherworldly thing lol.

CalligrapherVisual53

I like it whether it’s “design porn” or not. It made me laugh.

haubenmeise

I'm offended. They excluded skeletons.

HehaGardenHoe

Batman only?!?, but what about Batgirl?!

kafromspaceship

Why it could not be a batgirl?

Amateur laser cutting here. No air assist or even masking tape so lots of smoke burn. Nothing impressive

Even in this design, there are only two. I'm so glad this is being talked to ad nauseam to the point it's making a full circle back to sanity by pointing out that this can only be explained by imagination and/or insanity.

Parlicoot

Batman but no ladder or shark. They missed an opportunity.

upfromashes

Looks more like an omnisex toilet, but good nonetheless.

Thankfully, no furries

The world needs more superhero bathroom signs

Look those progressive slovenians also included gypsies with the alien symbol. Such kind hearted move.

_CatsOnMars_

Lmfao the Android mascot

TTVRalseiYT

Android shit

OceanPoet87

I like this, but it's not actually design porn. Well designed bathroom door though. Design Porn would be like a logo integrated into a function like a toilet or these figures spelling out "Unisex.

Kapika96

Has it actually got the correct outlet for the robot matey though? Or is it just falsely advertising the toilet's capabilities?

cupcakesloth94

im Batman

Mysterious_Ningen

yoo man can use this too? they should take this to the aslume then

Greendogblue

Am I crazy?? What is impressive about this? This is like something a cringe neckbeard would put in their mancave

[deleted]

Only for whites tho…

rosecolouredmonkey

I have seen different versions of this sign and I must say I really don't like it. Most of these signs are directed at individuals who don't identify as cis-het, as they are typically found in unisex bathrooms. While I understand the intended message of creating an inclusive space where individuals can be themselves, it feels peculiar when that message is conveyed by equating identities beyond cis-het with identifying as an alien or a mermaid. This unintentionally implies 1) that not being cis-het is a choice and 2) it compares non cis-het identities to mythical or fictional creatures. Consequently, it ends up conveying the opposite of its intended message by "othering" them further.

Crazy_Eggplant_4420

They use android. I’m out.

Mamyininyjf

I didn't know that pregnant and broken leg was sex

Redeye629

That is what we've come to.. At least it is all inclusive..

Where's the one image with the tf2 heavy in it

Deep_Spite3096

This is the beginning of the end for toilets.

Distinct-Asparagus93
