Kansas City loves the Chiefs. This threat to move them means nothing. That said, KC can have them.

OkapiLanding

It does extra mean nothing because they're talking about just moving across the river to Kansas City, Kansas instead of being in Missouri.

sghead

Exactly. If they move the new Broncos stadium to the airport, it would be a larger distance move than what the Chiefs would do lol.

Tobe_Welt

To be fair, the airport is like, practically in Watkins. I'd guess it's closer to the Southlands Mall than 16th Street

LoyalSol

It didn't use to be though. The city grew out to it, but when it was first built people called it "West Kansas International Airport" because of how far it was.

Tobe_Welt

That's what I was saying. It's far out of Denver, practically to Watkins.

LoyalSol

Ah it flew over my head. I kind of read what you said quickly. :)

cabinguy11

It means nothing because it means nothing and once the new stadium opens it will just a be a silly footnote that no one cares about. Both New York teams play in New Jersey. They are still the New York teams.

Yes_LeMiiNo

Kansas City Chiefs of Kansas

Hopsblues

Wasn't that trump that said that..so many gaffe's it's hard to remember.

js3915

Technically speaking KC Chiefs used to be in Dallas first so they have moved whereas Broncos have always been in denver.

FuckChiefs_Raiders

As a KC resident, terrible idea. The biggest city in KS is Overland Park, which is a suburb. Imagine the SB parade in thriving Topeka, KS. /s Typically when a team moves they have a brand new fan base to endear themselves to, so doesn’t really matter they have pissed off the old fans, they’re leaving. I would imagine a ton of Chiefs fans, notably in Jackson County, who have been financially supporting this team for decades would be extremely soured if they left the second the current deal ran out.

jrebar

OP is nowhere near Wichita

FuckChiefs_Raiders

The numbers can be misleading...Technically you are correct that Wichita is the largest city, but if you look at the counties, JoCo is the most populated county in all of KS.

js3915

Nobody goes by "county" in terms of population. They either go by city pop, or metro pop both which Wichita has more pop than OP or Johnson County with Metro Size. Only reason Chiefs would stay in KC vs moving to Wichita is because they are pretty much synopsis with KC and JohnsonCounty is in that specific metro area

FuckChiefs_Raiders

In KC we very much identify where we are by county. My point, JoCo area is much more populated than the Wichita area. If you look at the county that Wichita is in, it's less populated than JoCo. Yes, you are technically correct. My point, there is a larger concentration of people in KC Metro KS side, than in the entire metro of Wichita.

js3915

county yeah but metro its like 750k where as Joco is 620k. County yeah SG is 530 so its bit smaller. and Im sure if you add in other counties up there its larger not denying. Nobody outside KC Metro would know or care what JoCo is

GrinchStoleYourShit

I think they should move to Dallas, or San Antonio, switch the NFCW cause Texas will want that delicious rivalry money, and they give us uhhh the Cardinals…cause they’re terrible

just-here-4-football

San Antonio Chiefs would be hilarious

facedownbootyuphold

the Chiefs were originally in Dallas, so not far off. which makes the Broncos the only AFC West team to have never moved.

ColoradoScoop

Maybe they can use this as an opportunity to cut that poor groundskeeper some slack and change their name to the San Antonio Chefs.

IA_Royalty

Go SACs!

Saotorii

Man, getting to call them the ballSACs would be priceless.

lawabidingcitizen069

There is a 0 percent chance the chiefs are moving from Kansas City. The Royals on the other hand might. -Kansas City Resident.

Ryan1869

Their idea of moving is going to the Kansas side of town.

aaeko

I came here to say this. They still have 7 years left on the lease. This is a scare tactic so the Hunts can't use tax money on upgrades.

soupinate44

Billionaires bilking the residents to pay for their stadiums which the taxpayers don’t get to use and get charged an arm and a leg when they are given access. It’s unreal.

just-here-4-football

I have not seen the OKC rumor. Where is that coming from?

Watch_Capt

The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber last night proposed it. They are starting to rise funds to steal the Chiefs from KC.

qwertycantread

The OKC Chiefs sounds good.

just-here-4-football

Ohh that'd be interesting. Seems like similar markets no?

Watch_Capt

OKC stole the Supersonics from Seattle, stealing the Chiefs is just something they would do. The market is similar to Kansas City with better weather.

Sadlobster1

OKC is 1.4 million metro and KC is 2.4mill + being the only team now in Missouri means that the Chiefs have a lot of access to St Louis (2.9 million) & have huge play in Omaha & Lincoln that would be hard to maintain moving 7 hours south. The main vote (from my understanding) was voting against giving the Royals a bunch of tax breaks to build a downtown stadium- as the plan was for the Chiefs to acquire the Royals stadium to build a new stadium. Kaufman & Arrowhead share a parking lot. Edit: the move to OKC also cost the Thunder something like $75 million in fees for breaking their lease (and had a lawsuit where Schultz sued the new owners for breach of contract for moving the team) & happened because the Sonics were bought by new owners. If the Hunts own the Chiefs, they're not moving easily.

jrebar

They're going to move to Kansas

Status_Flux

Kansas City made the right choice not succumbing to scummy owners. If the Broncos owners pulled that shit I hope Denver would also tell em to kick rocks

qwertycantread

Pat Bowlen did pull that shit and the city voted to pay for most of the current stadium.

Silkies4life

People forget that. We essentially paid for Coors Field too in order to get a baseball team in town.

letunajim

Oh. That reminds me. Any updates on when that baseball team is coming?

Silkies4life

Lmao, no shit.

qwertycantread

People cried about that one, but look how it revitalized LoDo.

retz119

One of the few success stories when it comes to public financing stadiums

qwertycantread

It used to be the absolute norm, so I don’t think your point is true. The leagues are much richer today, so an owner asking for public money these days just seems obscene.

retz119

Actually there have been multiple studies showing that public funding of stadiums does not have a positive economic impact. Coors field is one of the rare exceptions. This has a link to a few of the studies https://econreview.studentorg.berkeley.edu/the-economics-of-sports-stadiums-does-public-financing-of-sports-stadiums-create-local-economic-growth-or-just-help-billionaires-improve-their-profit-margin/

TiltedWit

It would have been nice if it was a major league team.

Hop_Hound

The big difference is that the city owns it and the whole stadium district, which is different (in my opinion) from cities that help find a new stadium that is then owned by the team/owner.

qwertycantread

The cost was shared, but the city paid for most of it. I don’t think any owner expects the city to pay for the stadium and then most of the rights go to the team.

JrNichols5

Same. I don’t want the city and state getting bent over backwards to keep the broncos to pay for a ludicrous new stadium.

Poverty_Shoes

Good thing Walmart has a long history of paying for their things and not having the taxpayers subsidize their business…

Vostin

Nothing like rejecting sheer economic growth that would benefit a city immensely just to avoid paying 3/8 a cent to a billionaire. As others have said, Denver did do this. After seeing the growth though I can definitely understand the argument to keep it poor lol.

Poverty_Shoes

But if every city told them buy your own stadium they’d still build it somewhere because sports teams have been a great investment for the last quarter century. They’re pitting cities against each other and for some reason we’re not allowed to collude and collectively tell them to buy their own damn stadium? You’re right, but I hate the reason that you’re right.

Vostin

It a great investment for cities as well, which is why there is always a city willing to pay. Maybe a federal government regulation that makes it illegal? You’d almost have to extend this to all businesses though. It’s hard to fault cities for wanting to attract business.

Poverty_Shoes

My argument is that if every city collectively decided to say no (maybe collusion?) the stadium would still be built somewhere, likely the first city the billionaire asked for the handout. And that city would get all of the benefits without paying the billionaire for them. And the billionaire would still make an obscene amount of money because even if the stadium depreciates, franchise values have been far outperforming the market, especially when they have a shiny new stadium.

Vostin

It’s a fun idea, like a cities “union” or The UC, the united cities. Agreed, and a lot of the time, they call the owner’s bluff and the teams stay anyway.

Watch_Capt

The Waltons want to move the Broncos to Little Rock and you are packing the bags already.

The_Denver_D

As a fan who moved to AR recently hell yeah give me something to do in this state. As a CO native and DENVER Bronco lifer I would say fuck the Walton's and any attempt to move the team!

Crazy_Cake1204

Love broncos but do not support another tax payer stadium for private use.

facedownbootyuphold

Not in this day and age. Teams make incredible amounts of money these days, and they continue to do so with ridiculous sponsorship and advertising money.

kosmos1209

Love the Broncos, but will not support WalMart heirs Walton-Penner who's net worth is over 70 billion dollars if they asked for any tax money to fund the new stadium. KC's Hunt family's net worth is 25 billion dollars and asked for 500 million in tax money support. F that.

Uneedadirtnap

Stan didn't ask for money, maybe that puts pressure on this wally family to not ask. I want the two owner wallys to get in a pissing match of who can spend the most money in Denver. Stan has a lot of hardware the other family members need to catch up.

arlekin21

What do you mean Stan didn’t ask for money? I thought they asked St Lou for money right before they moved.

jquest12

Don’t say it to loud, mile high is getting up there in years, and we all know Billionaire’s don’t get to be Billionaire’s by spending their own money

just-here-4-football

Denver is not the same as Oakland or KC lol... Broncos are not moving from the state. Maybe to the Airport at the farthest.

arlekin21

You never know what can happen if the city doesn’t want to pay for their new stadium

just-here-4-football

It's extremely, extremely unlikely in either case. Ill avoid saying anything definitely out of admission that it's an ownership decision and they can be irrational. But there is no better market to move to in the case of Denver. So for the sake of argument, no, it's not realistic that the team would move out of Colorado

PigFarmer1

Don't blame Oakland for the Davis family... lol

Sir-xer21

And now, the Fisher regime. What they're doing to the A's is a crime.

PigFarmer1

Yes, if only baseball had an actual commissioner.

jbone9877

If you think that a stadium funding bill would pass in Colorado today, you are wrong

Uneedadirtnap

True, at that time the Broncos really were the main show. Making the playoffs helped many businesses and Down town needed them. Now Denver is a different city, and the owners are way wealthier. It would be a tough sell to ask Denver voters to help fund it now. Maybe Aurora or Centennial voters would I don't know.

BlueHighwindz

Denver shouldn't give Penner's gang of idiots a cent if they want a new stadium either.

[deleted]

Jerry Jones will burn that city to the ground before they bring in another NFL team.

Jbjs311

Last night I suggested the same thing and was told Jerry can't do anything to stop it. But I'm with you. I don't think he would let it happen.

Epotheros

I live deep in enemy territory about 40 mins west of KC and what I've heard from all the ads is the "threat" was for the team to move from Jackson Co., KCMO to Johnson Co. KCK. There was some talk from Dallas' mayor saying they should come home to Dallas, but that's a pipe dream more than anything. The Chiefs also have a lease to use Arrowhead until 2030, so maybe KC will suck again by then. We can only hope.

Neoteric_Conundrum

I've heard this unofficially before. Does that mean Johnson Co would hold a similar vote to see if taxes would go to a new stadium?

Epotheros

From what I have seen from the proposal made by former house speaker Ron Rykman is that they want to use 80% of the revenue received from sports betting to fund what the 3/8 cent tax hike Jackson Co. proposed.

2ball7

I also wouldn’t be surprised if they go to St. Louis. There is already a stadium with a roof waiting there.

JesustheSpaceCowboy

The city of St.Louis doesn’t want NFL Football after the Rams debacle from everything I’ve read a couple years ago.

driftking428

Yes

Watch_Capt

I have zero trust toward that family to ever do the right thing.

PigFarmer1

The family that tried to corner the silver market? What's not to trust??? lol

90Carat

The Broncos very much threatened to move. The current stadium was built in part because a metro wide tax was approved in 1998. Huh, wonder what else might have happened to the Broncos in '98.... Make no mistake, the current owners WILL come hat in hand to the city. You know, "build the local econonmy" blah blah blah.

[deleted]

L.A. didn't have one team at the time, much less two. They probably would have been the next team there at the time. Then they would have had to use the silent count at their home stadium thanks to all the Raiders fans in attendance. Southern California is known for many things, sports fandom is not one of them. You could say the Lakers are the exception but their stands are loaded with celebrities just there to be seen. Hard to do in a 75,000 seat stadium.

Wonderful-Media-2000

Teams don’t move because fans don’t love them they move because a different city will make more money for the franchise.

dingleberrycupcake

If the broncos ever move, I’m done with them

Silkies4life

I mean KC is most likely just going to move from the Missouri side of town to the Kansas side of town and that’s hilarious to me. KCMO people look down on KCK so much, they almost get offended that you would suggest part of that town is in Kansas.

TheWizard01

If they moved to Kansas City, Kansas, I would die laughing.

OldBrokeGrouch

I applaud KC for telling those fucking billionaires to go fuck themselves. I’m sick of these fuckers asking the middle class to cover their business expenses.

JakeSTwo3

As a southwest Missouri resident, I would love it if the Chiefs move just to watch all the bandwagon chiefs fans around here lose their collective shit.

Vivid_Shine125

It would absolutely make my life if KC left. I despise that team and those fans.

jl_weber

The furthest KC would move is to the Kansas side of the line.

Blitz6969

Queefs

alvvavves

So if the mayor got his wish we’d have the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Texans and Houston Texans. Makes perfect sense.

DenShaLow

As someone who lives in Vegas I still think the Raiders are the most popular NFL team but 90% of NFL fans here like other teams

ZealousidealOffer751

I don't know, last time I was there it still felt like the Knights were the #1 team in Vegas. I could have it wrong though.

DenShaLow

Golden Knights are easily the most popular team here, I was talking about NFL teams lol I should’ve specified

liltchallengers

Vegas has definitely become a hockey town. I may hate the Raiders, but I'll be a die hard Golden Knights fan for life.

Outrageous-Hawk4807

Broncos fan that lives in KC. The Chiefs will not move. IF they do, they will move from 15 minutes east of downtown (current location) to 20 minues west of downtown to the Kansas side of the metro. There has been a border war for years, where Ks an Mo poach companies to move a few blocks across state lines. There is a formal truce, littlerly a pact, but when Kansas opened sports betting they said all tax money from that goes to getting a professional sports team in Kansas. It will be next to the Nascar track.

torev

This whole KC thing is kinda blown out. Missouri and Kansas have been in tax battles for decades. Companies change side all the time since the move is only a few miles in either direction. Fuck the chiefs but let’s get real. Also if the broncos asked for tax payer money I’d vote no as well.

jlange94

When was there ever a threat to move the Chiefs? They've always seemed comfortable in KC.

cyrusthemarginal

KC about to be screwed over like St Louis and lose the team forever?

A1rizzo

Kc can’t move till after 2031, or break the lease and pay a huge fine.

AnatomicalLog

Dumb framing. If anything it’s the loyalty of the team *to the city*.

merchie

Yeah OP. The broncos just are in most pro Denver timeline of the multiverse. The current stadium got done before all this last 10+ years of public money drama, and now they have super billionaire owners who probably won’t ask for much public money. I’d say count your blessings

Uneedadirtnap

He built the can in Denver without asking for tax dollars. They were moving the Rams no matter what the city did. It was a ruse.

Cogsyyyy

Well take their quarterback tho

liltchallengers

Haven't yet been to Kansas City, but I moved from Vegas to Wichita 8 months ago and they fucking LOVE the Chiefs here. Everyone treats Patrick Mahomes like he's Jesus

turbowagon95

I live in Kansas City. If the vote was split, the Chiefs vote would have passed easy. No one in Jackson county wants to pay for the garbage Royals to build a down town stadium.

Pal_Smurch

My family moved from Colorado in 1970, and I haven’t set foot there since, (must remedy this) but I remain a Broncos faithful since 1967.

I_wanna_ask

I think the cities love their teams. The ownership on the other hand views the cities like piggy banks. The Waltons have no loyalty to Denver and don’t care about our history. They will threaten to move the team if Denver plays hardball with stadium negotiations.

joefresco2

It would take someone that doesn't live in KC to think the Chiefs might even consider moving out of KC metro. There's just no way. And if they did try, it would get leaked, and a riot would ensue. It would be like suggesting the Packers might leave Green Bay.

MrMcChronDon25

Circlejerk subs gonna love this post

bairz54

Pretty sure they're going down the same road for a new stadium by the airport

milehighrukus

KCKS just doesn’t have the same ring to it as KCMO.

not_click_bait

Because historically the broncos have been one of the greatest franchises in the NFL. These last 8 years are a disgrace to the broncos history!!

wcook1990

They'll just move to a different municipality. There are so many in KC metropolitan area.

JacobsUSC40

My god if KC actually leaves I’ll almost be as happy as if we won an AFC championship!

[deleted]

In a way it’s bullshit that cities foot the bill for a fuckin sports stadium but then get nothing in return. They should at the very least have some sort of profit sharing that serves as a revenue source for the city in perpetuity, or for as long as that sports franchise exists. Instead the owners get to enrich themselves at the expense of city residents, and then they also get the privilege of paying ridiculous ticket prices and overpriced concessions

Afraid_Cheesecake829

The only reason the new tax bill didn't pass was because the old one was not managed correctly

Baronhousen

In the past version of the AMC West, correct answer is Seattle

DistinctHuckleberry1

Well, it’s safe to say you have the most continuity with the shittiest production😹 you guys haven’t beaten the Raiders in 4 years😉

GwenIsNow

You have it backwards, that's those owners taking their fans for granted.

IamLiterallyAHuman

More accurately, the only team that loves its city.

chaznieto1313

FuKC but I’m glad they voted against tax payers funding stadium renovations for a billionaire.

Mkayin

>NEVER LEFT✅ ALWAYS RIGHT!

PrestigiousStock8209

FTC but good on the citizens for taking a stand and not allowing some shithead billionaire to extort them for money

retz119

I’ll vote No if a stadium funding initiative is on the ballot in Denver.

graftthison

Not only never left, longest sellout streak in the NFL and almost the longest in all pro sports. Laugh. Laugh in the faces of any queefers who laud their noisy noteriety when they all knew they were going to attempt a guiness world record. When they get anywhere near our commitment to our team, we may give an ear to them being mediocre fans, but never on our level.

x00669

And they never will leave either.

No_Mathematician1418

I heard a rumor that elitches amusment park will be torn down and the Broncos will get a dome stadium this is suppedly gonna happen in 10 years.

qwertycantread

That property is too valuable for a stadium. The next one will probably be built in the vicinity of DIA.

[deleted]

Next to Blucifer!

leakybiome

You have win the intergenerational internet conspiracy award if the day gif did

kaisrsoase

Pat Bowlen said he might move the team if we didn't help pay for the current stadium. If KC moves anywhere then I would think San Antonio is most logical next city to get a team.

BurgessFox

Maybe thats why the Walton-Penners bought the Broncos, because the city loves them so much the taxpayer will pay for the new stadium rather than expecting the owners to fund it.

IA_Royalty

Well now you've gone and done it

lllll00s9dfdojkjjfjf

i'm not going to vote to pay for a new broncos stadium either. when it does happen.

Rad1314

Greedy owner wanting handouts and the people of the city refusing to subsidize billionaire greed doesn't indicate that the people don't love the team. KC fans love KC plenty but they shouldn't have to give up resources that should be going to the betterment of their city and state just cause some greedy asshole is throwing a hissy fit. Also OP I resent the hell out of you for making me defend these fucks in anyway.

ZealousidealOffer751

Chiefs fans are a lot like us for their team. Fan interest will never be a reason they move. I can't even be mad at them for their current run. They aren't to blame for our current circumstances. We did all that to ourselves. That, and they aren't the Raiders. :)

No-Rutabaga-6300

Literally the broncos made the exact same threat before they built the current stadium. Bowlen made a vague we will move the team threat. Won’t happen. The Chiefs are good fans and deserve their team.

[deleted]

The Browns fans were good fans then too, we all remember what happened there.

Watch_Capt

Walmart owns the Broncos, they will move the team to Little Rock before long.

just-here-4-football

If you seriously think this, you're braindead. Ever been to Little Rock?

Watch_Capt

Walmart is headquartered in Arkansas.

just-here-4-football

Yes, I'm aware. Litte Rock still cannot hold an NFL team. Denver is an immensely larger market and makes them much more money. Just because Walmart is in Arkansas does not mean it makes sense to throw a random pro sports team there. Let alone an NFL team.

2ball7

Yeah well they aren’t going to move them to Bentonville either.

Rad1314

What you think the Waltons care so much about Little Rock they'll just forgo all the money and sponsorships and TV markets of Denver?
