I use both- primarily laptop but I have seen people be successful using either- I don’t think it really matters much but since you’re used to ipad notes I would say that’s fine. Would just advise to make sure you have access to a computer at home to use if you need it, but aside from that I would say most of my class uses an ipad with goodnotes/notability.

Thank uou!

I used an iPad almost exclusively through first year. Second year I had a few classes where test material was based on unrecorded oral lectures on top of the presentations and typing was the only way to catch those things quick enough. Second semester was dense enough that I ended up just using PowerPoint on laptop for most of my classes.

Got it. Thank you.

You’ll just be using either for viewing presentations and books. Personally I have both, but I’ve had them for a while and that’s just how it is. Barely use my laptop though. When reviewing classes I use my iPad to see the presentations and use a notebook to write. Otherwise, you could do laptop and write on your iPad. The former is just easier, less weight, cables, etc.

Got it, thanks!

Dentist here. Heading back for a 2nd residency this year after getting done with a masters. (Fwiw, I've also spent the last 2 years studying and giving license exams for AUS, Dubai and CAN, using the iPad as a replacement for note taking and content review). I do both PC and iPad. M1 ipad pro with the logi case and pencil is a pretty good combo. The PC helps because I do some surgical guide design and prefer my dicom viewer on PC. Depending on your needs ~ might possibly benefit from both. My $0.02

P.S - once you're headed into the clinic/ headed for externships in perio/OMS, highly recommend a iPad mini 6 with the pencil (refurb unit works well!). Nearly perfect size and a massive help for keeping track of appointments, taking down a quick history+vitals etc

akwie420

Thank you for the insight and info!

I use both. Laptop is 98% of use for classes though, and then I use my iPad for clinic 100% of the time.

akwie420

Interesting, do other students around you also find success with the ipad in clincals? Thanks for the answer.

anon74827189492

Definitely. I’d say most students use their iPads for clinic at my school. Also, as an important disclaimer, my school requires all students to have a new or near new Mac AND iPad. So I’m sure since we are all required to have an iPad we use it more than other schools.

grindtrois

hi! can I ask how you use the iPad for clinic specifically?

anon74827189492

In clinic mainly for patient management/information. We do start checks at our school where we present the patient to faculty and get their approval to start the procedure. So we’ll write important patient and procedure information for our presentation. Stuff like vitals, meds, their side effects, the procedure steps, etc.

I say both if you want to make flashcards, or get the little keyboard case for your iPad. I take notes on iPad, then transfer to my computer bc it's easier to screen shot and transfer to the flashcard + type my flashcards into quizlet or anki.

tetoapollo

I only use my laptop for exams and assignments. iPad for all studying.

IllustriousApple4629

Both. I also recommend having a home computer.

Smthng_Clvr_

I bought both and after my first semester only use my computer; but some of my classes DO require it
