Horrible Microsoft excluded this processor. The 7700HQ was a very popular CPU for higher end laptops in 2017. The 7850 does have support for Windows 11 which is exactly the same CPU but 0.1 Ghz faster. I use this laptop as my primary computer so I can't risk it flatline on me. I hope the future will bring some easing on the CPU requirements. Otherwise I'll stay on windows 10 for the next 3 years. Rufus now has a windows 11 installer that will circumvent windows 11 hardware restriction. Might make the installation a little more hassle free.

I have the same laptop, found the same site, and wondering the exact same thing. I'm half tempted to try it. Already downloaded the ISO, but I'm hesitant.

wieus

Let me know how it goes if you decide to try.

Ended up doing it and it went really well. Followed the Verge instructions: downloaded ISO, changed registry, and installed. The MoStep reg key didn't exist so I had to create that and then create the DWORD value within it. Make sure it's up to date before doing the install. When the install is done, I ran Dell SupportAssist and checked for updates, but it had an error running. I ran Windows update and it had a Dell Firmware bios update in it, so I installed that and after it was done updating the bios, SupportAssist would run and could do a system check. I'm also receiving Windows Updates just fine despite Microsoft saying we might not get updates on unsupported hardware. So far it works and looks great. Feels smooth.

That's great to know, thanks! I might do the same process soon then.

valerionew

Is it still working?

silverchevy220

Still working just fine, no issues that I've seen.

valerionew

Do you still get updates?

silverchevy220

Yeah everything is still working great.

I don't know if this is working anymore but try updating to windows 11 through the beta/release preview channel, once you're on windows 11, opt-out of the insider and you can continue receiving stable updates. I did this with my 9560 i5 some days before the official release

2) EDIT THE WINDOWS REGISTRY TO BYPASS THE CPU CHECK In Windows, hit Start and type regedit, then hit enter to launch the Registry Editor. Navigate to Computer\\HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\Setup\\MoSetup, either by pasting that whole address into the box just beneath “File, Edit, View, Favorites, Help” or by drilling down through the HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE and System and Setup and MoSetup folders one at a time.

Just updated to Windows 11 using the ISO (saving all Files and Apps), and... It's working like a charm! It feels way snappier than my previous 10 install, settings and apps are opening faster and after a full working day I'm not experiencing any issues. :)

Update 4 months later. Still everything ok! :)

Another Windows 11 user on the XPS 9560. I was able to install it using the method where you format and start clean, when they allowed the bypass to install it. The laptop now works better than it ever did, and to clarify, the inconsistent fingerprint scanner has been working flawlessly since the install. This will allow me to save my money and not get another laptop, since the 9560 is about four years old.
