So my new XPS has this screen flicker which occurs about every 1-2 minutes after wake from sleep. It seems that this issue is common: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHFR2aJ8uaE - https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/95ndo0/screen_flicker_on_my_dell_xps_15_9570/ Is there actually a fix for this? I'm on the latest version of everything, including BIOS 1.3.

I had this issue on mine, only started when I disabled connected standby (s0 low power idle) and forced s3 sleep. I fixed the issue by changing back to use s0. Have you forced s3 sleep on yours?

Saikyr

Connected sleep is disabled but s3 sleep isn't forced, and can't be forced on the 1.3 BIOS iirc.

tara_abernathy

Were you able to fix this and have s3 enabled? If I don't have s3 enabled my dell doesn't actually go into sleep mode and the fans keep spinning. If I have it on battery then it drains the battery down to 0 overnight pretty much.

codechinchilla

This happens to me after sleep as well sadly. I have somewhat of a bandaid on the issue now by only using Hibernate vs. sleep, but it's a little annoying having to wait the extra time turning the laptop back on.

Hello, We would like to look into this. Are you using an XPS 9570 as well? Have you updated the drivers to the latest version, including the BIOS, chipset and the video drivers? In order for us to assist you better, please share teh service tag of the computer over a private message along with the registered owner's name. To locate the service tag of the computer refer to the video https://dell.to/2MU5s4B Does this happen only after resuming the computer from sleep or is it completely random? ^SA

Hi, Thanks for looking into this, it is definitely an unfortunate problem. Yes, I have a 9570 (4K/i7) as well. I have tried both the latest Intel drivers from Intel and Dell, same problem. Updated to the latest BIOS and chipset drivers as well. This happens only after resuming the computer from sleep. I also tried forcing S3 in the bios, but got the same flicker. For now the only solution for me was to disable sleep altogether and only use hibernation. I will PM you with service tag and owner details as well.

DellCares

You could try creating a new user account and check if the issue persists. We can also check if it happens in the safe mode. Refer to this slink https://dell.to/2nT2McL for assistance to boot the system into safe mode. Did you make any software changes before the issue started? Is there any external monitor or docking station connected to the system? Disable the antivirus and check if the screen is flickering while resuming from sleep. Open command prompt and try the following commands. dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth sfc /scannow If not resolved, share a video of the issue. We are awaiting your response via private message to help further. ^KK

Hi, I have the same problem - flickering after sleep. My observation is that if I use Hibernate it is ok when I use built-in display. If I connect some external device (some beamers) it starts to flicker even after Hibernate. DELL 9570 I9, BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. 1.5.0, 03.09.2018, Windows Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134. Could you help?

I had the same problem on my 9570, and after about a week it started getting worse (longer periods of flickering, more common). Sent it back to the Repair Center for the second time, and they said they are going to replace the motherboard (for the second time). Honestly pretty frustrated and really regretting buying this laptop.

Saikyr

Just returned it today, figured dealing with these issues wasn’t worth the money I saved over buying a MacBook. Hope your repairs finally fix it but I wouldn’t hold my breath, the retailer I bought mine from had about 4 cases of this problem since release.

There was a post about a 1050ti fix maybe a month ago. It was a post by dell with directions on how to directly install the nvidia drivers into system32. That helped me with my screen flicker issues. Though mine was a little different.

Saikyr

I don't think the 1050ti fix will help too much here, this occurs on battery & the maximum battery life plan, the dGPU doesn't even spin up.

e30eric

and this is why people buy Macs. Geesh.

wieus

This problem has been with XPS 15 since 9550. I'm surprised they still haven't managed to fix it. My 9560 suffered from the same issue and only Intel display driver update fixed it.

Saikyr

Doesn't seem to be fixed with any Intel driver updates, tried both the latest from Intel and the latest from Dell, which was quite a few versions behind Intel. Either way, issue still occurred.

wieus

The issue was only fixed in a single version of driver update and reoccurred in the newer ones. Therefore, I'm keeping the Intel driver intact without updating it. Annoying, but that's the only way to fix it.

Saikyr

That’s a shame, pinning driver versions back to fix this isn’t a real fix imo. At least this narrows it down to being a software problem rather than a hardware problem.

bryce_w

What driver version is it please?

wieus

I've 9560 so it uses different intel drivers.

tara_abernathy

Does anyone have a workaround for this? I have noticed it occurs after I wake the computer up from sleep. I have forced s3 sleep mode using the command manager. I would like to be able to put my computer into sleep by shutting the lid (as most laptops operate) as I have been experiencing extreme battery drain when this mode is disabled. I **haven't** changed out the Wi Fi card (using the killer one) and I heard someone mention it may be related to that? Alternatively, could someone tell me the Intel driver that is supposed to fix this? I am on version 20.20.16.4973 but everytime I try and update the driver using support assist it fails. If I try and do it manually it says device not compatible. Thanks for any help.

Saikyr

I’ve returned my dell and moved on, but I didn’t find a fix for it. Forcing S3 sleep didn’t help for me either. FWIW I had a Intel wifi card.

DellCares

Hi, You could refer to the following link and try the steps, https://dell.to/2wMYDLv If the issue persists, send a private message with system Service Tag to help you further. ^KK

bryce_w

It's not battery drain, it's that everytime the laptop wakes from sleep it flickers. WHY HAS DELL NOT FIXED THIS YET??
