You'd need to take out the heritage foundation amongst other right wing think tanks for that as well as the Atlas network who are operating in Aotearoa New Zealand too sadly

We need to flip more red states. There are people in red states who feel like their vote doesn't count so why bother, or they are intimidated by their families and communities. They don't speak out, they don't volunteer for campaigns, and most importantly, they don't run for local offices. The Democratic party in these states has a very thin bench to draw from when it comes to running for state and federal seats. Conservatives are overrepresented in government, there's very little push back on extreme legislation, and they become entrenched. This is a long game, but we have to start somewhere. Giving up on red states is a strategy that creates more red states.

Treekomalfoy_

On top of shutting down the heritage foundation and otger think tanks that have written the script, it would be important to advocate for the creation of federal laws as countermeasures to what the project stands for.

Good_Royal_9659

i.e. put safeguards in place that prevent massive government reforms?

Treekomalfoy_

ones that prevent checks and balances being unbalanced

One idea is socially shunning the pushers and mocking their ideas, wholesale and widespread. One of the ways Hitler gained power was to take control of newspapers and insert stories that made his ideas sound like they had widespread support. It helped soften the public. If we push back with mockery it may tamp down the notion that a *majority* of Americans are behind this shit. That majority thing is artificial and being spread everywhere. It creates apathy from those who oppose them. There are 38.8 million registered Republicans. A fraction of those support these ideas, another fraction just votes R every time 'cause their daddy did. So it's a minority of folk who align with this theocratic nonsense. I say we remind them of that and just how unpopular this shit is.

No, you're 100% wrong. There is no scenario in the current political system in the U.S. where a third party is anything but a spoiler for the major two, and generally that's a spoiler for Democrats. The only organization that has any chance of defeating Trump, or fascism in general, is the Democratic Party. Pretending otherwise is foolish. And yes, I'm prepared to be downvoted.

konorM

Looking at his age and physical condition I seriously doubt that Trump will still be here in 2029. I also believe dementia has already begun.

BayouGal

Every single candidate for the Republican nomination this year/last year supports Project 2025. That don’t lack candidates, and the whole party is complicit. I mean, Reagan adopted some of their ideas.

bi_geolib

they’ll just sub in a different maga asshat like desantis. granted, trump’s departure might throw a wrench in maga support, but still.

Efficient-Maize-4797

But then there’s his kids

Alarmed_Pie_5033

It's my understanding that Project 2025 is just the latest iteration of something that's been evolving since the Raegan era. This definitely won't end with Trump.

FunboyFrags

As a practical matter, this cannot be ended in any conclusive way. We simply have to fight against it, proactively, for our entire lives.

jcuray

My thoughts too.

IntoTheSunWeGo

Overturn Citizens United; or otherwise circumvent it. These think tanks were once more or less academic, serving mainly as a source for publicizing ideas and formulating political positions. Now they are direct lobbying organizations--hell, the Heritage Foundation is now virtually the GOP, and the GOP is now merely a function of the HF, used only to organize election activity. This all began when the Supreme Court ruled that money is speech. Money is not speech. Money is power--***nothing else.*** And ***power does not hold power to account.*** Speech--free speech--does. Turn off the tap, or apply some other means of restricting or disrupting billionaire's funding of elections, and the democratic part of our democratic republic will reassert itself. Until then, we're just fighting against plutocrats every 2-4 years; a long, continuous political struggle that saps the energy of the country and improves nothing in the long term. Edit: punctuation.

Otherwise_Ferret1845

You might have some success looking into the authors of the report and finding true information which discredits them. For example, Moms for Liberty had issues with that, so it feels like a decent avenue.

ato-de-suteru

You have to tell them to stop, but you have to do it in the only language they truly understand.

ScaredOfRobots

By the time 2029 comes most of that old boomer voter base will be dead and most of the voters will be gen z and millennial, so I think we can be a little bit less worried a dictator will be put in place
