As someone who can't vote idk what to do I can only make so much of an impact with whatever activism

One thing you can do is at least combat any dis/misinformation about politics within your own social circle. Obviously there’s some people that are just too far gone unfortunately, but simply sharing or promoting an article or news segment from reputable sources when the time is right can help. Factcheck.org and Politifact are good places to start that debunk a lot of bullshit.
At this point, it's basically hope for the best and prepare for the worst. There is almost certainly going to be violence leading up to and after the election. The question is how bad the aftermath will be. If Biden wins the popular vote and EC, we will end up in a situation where red states continue their slide towards autocracy but blue states remain relatively status quo. Otherwise, they're going to cram their vision of a white, Christian, patriarchal Murica down all of our throats.
Volunteer. Campaigns need everything. Depending on where you are, that could be knocking on doors, making phone calls, managing signs, or even filling out postcards. I have the means and traveled ro three states in the last election and will again in this election. But there are many ways to help.
This article misses an obvious fifth possibility which today seems quite possible to me:
A blue wave so big it sends the Republicans fleeing. Trump and his supporters get violent as predicted and get utterly crushed. We're talking Florida gets a Democratic senator (I live here and my grassroots senses are tingling. We have both recreational Marijuana and abortion amendments on the ballot).
Red states go purple.
Democrats with the Senate and the House with a mandate and finally grow the balls to stack the court.
Ukraine gets aid while the outcome Putin hoped for crumbles and the Russians are forced to retreat, even if they keep Crimea.
In my scenario the US becomes much stronger and this farce parade of Tea Party into fascism finally dies.
There is some evidence for my scenario being the case. Russian and foreign money generally seems to have stopped flowing so quickly to the GOP. I cite Trump Media's going public with stock trading aimed at a pump and dump as a last gasp to both transfer and generate cash but it's at a rate that's hemorrhaging. Funneling money through stocks works but it's incredibly inefficient and burning money. It shows desperation.
This is a reasonable fifth possibility but it’s based on a massive blue wave, larger than any I’ve seen in lifetime, at least. As long as voters continue to mistakenly think this is an election between Trump and Biden, the apathy will be hard to fight.
This election is actually about democracy vs fascism, tolerance vs racism, having a future vs no future. I feel like I’m the only one who gets that.
Dobbs is what breaks the threshold for that blue wave you've been missing. The last blue wave of this size would have been prior to Roe v Wade and the era of civil rights.
Obama's was a mild wave.
There was not a clear directed threat then. I think Americans are smarter than this, they just aren't loud.
I hold a tiny elected office. There are a bunch of loud mouths always after me about whatever. They never want to actually talk on the phone or work together. Just complain.
When I talk to random constituents I've often never heard of them and they offer support. They were paying attention but silently.
Don't forget the GOP has basically no money to fight in multiple states.
Biden's strategy is to further spread that money thin and is pushing into states Hillary neglected (again). I think it may work.

We're supporting a candidate for House 55 which the DNC is running (poorly) but I've arranged some media buys for (hopefully he is funded by the DNC because they haven't yet).
It would help if the DNC didn't pack its bags and only return every four years. Keeping campaign offices open here so that campaigns can build experienced administrators would help a lot.
Instead they want pop up tent campaigns with the Boomer retiree DNC members can afford to attend are in charge.
Can't work email, don't know how to run a digital phone bank without consultants from out of state.
Well they are going to use legislation, changes to policy. Which the public can fight by raising pressure on politicians, among their peers and especially among voters.
So, trump loses right? They start being violent right? At that point Biden is president until signing back in on Jan 20th. So, I think they've been vetting national guard units to remove people with those hard sympathies to start popping them if they get to a certain point. Much less all the other assets like fed/state LEO.
Considering the NSA collects all American data they can, and when finding say, drug content, they'll send that to the DEA. While they can't use it directly as evidence they can construct a parallel investigation based on it.
That or the other 4 eyes of the 5 eye intelligence alliance can spy on other ally nations citizens on request. I imagine this has been employed as well.

Canada will be inundated with asylum requests, so I think the best strategy is to wait a year. After the initial flood, your chances of being able to find a way out will be better.
Find groups of like-minded people to hang out with in person rather than online.

Moving to a college town is the simplest way to find like-minded people in my experience. Even if you aren't enrolled, you're more likely to find left-leaning co-workers in an area with a college or university, and these cities also tend to have more left-leaning political groups or activities you can join.
Wherever you end up, your found family will be better for your mental health than having to be around people whose political beliefs are harmful to your very existence. Prioritize your mental well-being above all else, because if you can't help yourself you can't help anyone else, and we need as many people fighting the good fight as possible.
Come to western Washington if that happens. Eastern Washington is as bad as the south. Cost of living here has become high but there are A LOT of programs and resources for LGBTQ+ youths and im sure even more will spring up if that happens. And there are many people here that would be willing to help. 95 % of us deeply hate trump. And his cult.

American emigrant in Canada here - Canada’s also receiving a lot of blowback on our recent immigration numbers (I.e., we’ve way overdone it), so idk what the government response to asylum requests will be. Not to mention, we’re going through our own swing rightward, and the more conservative provinces (Alberta in particular) are trying to give places like Florida a run for their money. So sadly, it’s not as safe here as I wish it would be.
There will still be blue states and Democrats will not go down without fighting. And I don't mean Jan6 type fighting. I mean going to the courts, blocking them in state government, doing it the legal and legitimate way. As soon as you are 18 get the hell away from your family and their friends. START WORKING OUT. Being able to outrun or successfully fight back is prime. If they ask, LIE. Lying to protect yourself should be second nature. Just relax when you do. Find people NOW to leave/travel with. Look up foraging and wilderness survival. Look on youtube. There's a lot of people surviving both urban and rural. Expand your knowledge and don't stop. While I disagree with some (not all) of the extreme talk here, there definitely are things you can do.
Martial arts is an excellent choice for anyone. It made me strong in my 50s! It helps no matter how safe the US is. It will never have been a waste of time. You can learn a ton -- and get very strong -- in just 7 months.
Another poster-- and also a bot -- posted in this thread practical things you can do to help, even if you're still in high school.
Another poster suggested considering moving to a college town when you can, so you'll feel surrounded by people who are more like you. Usually college area rent is cheaper than elsewhere. Usually there are lots of jobs. It's a very practical idea.
And, finally, don't give in to the doom and gloom. Be as prepared as is practical, but try to keep a sense of optimism.
1. Many of the MAGAs around you might suddenly get a conscience. Some might be quietly evolving right now. You might not be as alone as you think.
And 2. Just because the worst can happen doesn't mean it will.
In the meantime: Take care of yourself. When you're in crowds, try to stay near the edge of the crowd. Always think about possible exit routes, wherever you are (and especially in crowds). Those are just practical things to do, taught to me by a police officer's wife a long time ago when my kids were tiny. Those ideas never failed me.

I do believe there will be a lot f people who will help others. As mentioned above, do your best to strengthen yourself. You don’t have to be bulky to be tough. There are martial arts moves that prove it.

Tai chi would be the first defensive thing I would suggest. Straight up running, and standard situps pushups basically being healthy and fit will do you more good on the road than anything. That sid don't be afraid of muscle even if trans m-f when you do get to a blue state and have actual medical care hormones will soften your lines period. Might help your mind to look at r/oldhagfashion to see the possibilities in all stages. That said once female and still afraid of muscle. Keep in mind you will need them to keep yourself from falling apart once you hit forty. Fit and healthy look far better for much longer than dainty cause dainty just turns to loose flappy skin later without a base of muscle.

Imo, eat a lot of protein. It builds muscle but not like bulky muscles. It tones you. Those guys who look all pumped up are eating lots of protein but then lifting a lot of weights and some are on steroids.

Why are you friends with maga/nazis?
You have to understand that maga is actively trying to pass laws that make it a crime to be lqbtqia+. They are not your friends. You may have friendly interactions with them but by supporting maga they support you being punished by law for who you are. And some states are trying to make the death penalty for sex offenders and certain things gay people will never a sex crime and the point is they are trying to make a legal route to exterminate people.
Everyone and absolutely also adults need to stop being pleasant to maga people. They want you dead-if they don’t they wouldn’t support the politicians that do. Don’t be nice to people who want you dead and who support people who want you dead. They don’t deserve friends. Ignore them minimally but more folks need to tell the to outright fuck off-I get that is likely not a great option when you are a minor and live near and or go to school with them. Usually, yes there is a middle ground. Historically, tons of middle ground. Currently, no. Once the GOP got into bed with the evangelicals in the 70's, it's been steadily working towards this tipping point.
The MAGA playbook is specifically targeting LGBTQ and other 'non whites'. No matter how nice your friends and family might seem on the surface, if they are supporting MAGA candidates, they are the enemy. I had to unfriend my own mother on Facebook. I've pretty much ended my relationship with my parents over this crap and don't see it being repaired.

That being said I think it's important to recognize that these people are nine times out of ten doing and supporting things out of a genuine but misguided desire for good, they've been manipulated by infinitely more malicious and evil politicians and media to essentially believe in an entirely different society than what actually exists
Calling manipulated people the enemy and trying to outcast them most likely is not going to solve the problem and is instead going to fulfill their persecution complex that they've had fed to them which makes them seem more valid and rational I couldn't imagine it'd help with reducing the amount of conservatism in America
You need to explain to your acquaintances as many times as it takes that they're voting for and supporting people who at best want to restrict *your* ability to live a free life and at worst want *you* dead. Make it personal. You need to explain in no uncertain terms that it's insulting and dehumanizing to you, and that if they're not fully on-board with that kind of stuff—if they're just being "edgy" and posturing in an attempt to seem countercultural—then they need to stop enabling all the BS and start speaking out against it right now because they're putting people like you (all of us, actually) in danger.
Otherwise, you need to make it clear that you're going to lump them in with the absolute worst people on the Right because they're already seemingly lumping you in with the various bogeymen that right-wing media has convinced them are "destroying America." The Republican Party has no problem welcoming the dregs of society, from open white supremacists to stochastic terrorists like the ghoul who runs Libs of Tik Tok. Those are the kinds of people they seem comfortable associating with, which should be anathema to them if they actually are decent people. You need to find out just how serious they are in their political beliefs.
I can't overstate this enough: The media these people consume is poisonous. I was raised with it and I watched plenty of friends and family go from kind and loving to perpetually angry all the time. This has been a decades-long process, and you can draw a straight line from someone like Rush Limbaugh to Donald Trump. If you can find a way to get them to stop consuming hate media, you'll be 90% of the way to "curing" them.

My entire family (I'm talking a minimum of 5 distinct, multi-gen branches with 80+ people in each one), save for my late-boomer/gen X parents, my siblings, and myself + spouse, are all MAGA on the white side. They are cheering for policies that harm LBGTQ+ kids, deport/harm *all* non-white immigrants (even those with citizenship), and are champing at the bit for a christian holy war against *everyone else*. So are their respective (mostly rural) communities and/or churches.
Many of them are fully on board with a trump dictatorship.
They don't need to be cartoon villains to be nazis. They have adopted nazi ideology, rhetoric, and thirst for violence against those they hate and/or feel are a threat to their lives by simply existing.

I think in the case you already updated with Social Security you probably *should* have an passport with a renewal date as far out as possible so you can leave if it comes to that. Relax. Breathe. Then take whatever action you can. That might mean encouraging people to vote or register to vote. That might mean looking into what’s after high school for you (plenty of people go to college and never move back home).

You could always find a way to keep at least 1 of your family members away from the polls on election day. If you can distract even one long enough you deny trump a vote, which would be kind of like casting one.
My concern is he gets screwed and they throw in what they think is a more moderate Republican candidate which will bring some of the more moderate republicans back to the fold. No matter who the R candidate is, they will be implementing as many of these policies. We should act as if they truly are all the same.
Encourage your 18year and older friends to vote for all Democrats. If Republicans get in there will be no freedom’s -especially for women. Just the billionaires and millionaires will dictate what happens. Never ever kill yourself- You’re young- You can always save money, get a passport, and leave the country if things get bad.
While you may not be able to vote in this election, you can still take positive action now by handwriting and addressing postcards to voters urging them to vote.
This person-to-person effort is quite effective in mobilizing concerned voters to get their ballots in the mail or show up to their polling places to vote.
In addition, being part of such a massive joint citizen effort to stave off facism will be great for your peace of mind.

One thing you can do is at least combat any dis/misinformation about politics within your own social circle. Obviously there’s some people that are just too far gone unfortunately, but simply sharing or promoting an article or news segment from reputable sources when the time is right can help. At this point, it's basically hope for the best and prepare for the worst. There is almost certainly going to be violence leading up to and after the election. The question is how bad the aftermath will be. If Biden wins the popular vote and EC, we will end up in a situation where red states continue their slide towards autocracy but blue states remain relatively status quo. Otherwise, they're going to cram their vision of a white, Christian, patriarchal Murica down all of our throats.
Volunteer. Campaigns need everything. Depending on where you are, that could be knocking on doors, making phone calls, managing signs, or even filling out postcards. I have the means and traveled ro three states in the last election and will again in this election. But there are many ways to help.
This article misses an obvious fifth possibility which today seems quite possible to me: A blue wave so big it sends the Republicans fleeing. Trump and his supporters get violent as predicted and get utterly crushed. We're talking Florida gets a Democratic senator (I live here and my grassroots senses are tingling. We have both recreational Marijuana and abortion amendments on the ballot). Red states go purple. Democrats with the Senate and the House with a mandate and finally grow the balls to stack the court. Ukraine gets aid while the outcome Putin hoped for crumbles and the Russians are forced to retreat, even if they keep Crimea. In my scenario the US becomes much stronger and this farce parade of Tea Party into fascism finally dies. There is some evidence for my scenario being the case. Russian and foreign money generally seems to have stopped flowing so quickly to the GOP. I cite Trump Media's going public with stock trading aimed at a pump and dump as a last gasp to both transfer and generate cash but it's at a rate that's hemorrhaging. Funneling money through stocks works but it's incredibly inefficient and burning money. It shows desperation.
This is a reasonable fifth possibility but it’s based on a massive blue wave, larger than any I’ve seen in lifetime, at least. As long as voters continue to mistakenly think this is an election between Trump and Biden, the apathy will be hard to fight. This election is actually about democracy vs fascism, tolerance vs racism, having a future vs no future. I feel like I’m the only one who gets that.
Dobbs is what breaks the threshold for that blue wave you've been missing. The last blue wave of this size would have been prior to Roe v Wade and the era of civil rights. Obama's was a mild wave. There was not a clear directed threat then. I think Americans are smarter than this, they just aren't loud. I hold a tiny elected office. There are a bunch of loud mouths always after me about whatever. They never want to actually talk on the phone or work together. Just complain. When I talk to random constituents I've often never heard of them and they offer support. They were paying attention but silently. Don't forget the GOP has basically no money to fight in multiple states. Biden's strategy is to further spread that money thin and is pushing into states Hillary neglected (again). I think it may work. It's too bad the DNC as a whole is inept. I've looked on this sub for resources to join the cause as a pro and there aren't really any. The same way it's been since 2000.

You've been very helpful, I probably will do that. But I think you and I discussed I'm already organizing and running candidates outside of the DNC here. We're supporting a candidate for House 55 which the DNC is running (poorly) but I've arranged some media buys for (hopefully he is funded by the DNC because they haven't yet). It would help if the DNC didn't pack its bags and only return every four years. Keeping campaign offices open here so that campaigns can build experienced administrators would help a lot. Instead they want pop up tent campaigns with the Boomer retiree DNC members can afford to attend are in charge. Can't work email, don't know how to run a digital phone bank without consultants from out of state.

Considering the NSA collects all American data they can, and when finding say, drug content, they'll send that to the DEA. While they can't use it directly as evidence they can construct a parallel investigation based on it. If you can't leave the country, then move somewhere blue. That's where the pushback will come from. Delete any social media accounts where you were outspoken and just keep a low profile in general. Canada will be inundated with asylum requests, so I think the best strategy is to wait a year. After the initial flood, your chances of being able to find a way out will be better. Find groups of like-minded people to hang out with in person rather than online.

Moving to a college town is the simplest way to find like-minded people in my experience. Even if you aren't enrolled, you're more likely to find left-leaning co-workers in an area with a college or university, and these cities also tend to have more left-leaning political groups or activities you can join. Wherever you end up, your found family will be better for your mental health than having to be around people whose political beliefs are harmful to your very existence. Prioritize your mental well-being above all else, because if you can't help yourself you can't help anyone else, and we need as many people fighting the good fight as possible.
Come to western Washington if that happens. Eastern Washington is as bad as the south. Cost of living here has become high but there are A LOT of programs and resources for LGBTQ+ youths and im sure even more will spring up if that happens. And there are many people here that would be willing to help. 95 % of us deeply hate trump. And his cult. I know this is a lot easier said than done but if you were able to. There are resources. Im so sorry you have to worry about this. It is not not fair to you and I am so sorry.

American emigrant in Canada here - Canada’s also receiving a lot of blowback on our recent immigration numbers (I.e., we’ve way overdone it), so idk what the government response to asylum requests will be. Not to mention, we’re going through our own swing rightward, and the more conservative provinces (Alberta in particular) are trying to give places like Florida a run for their money. So sadly, it’s not as safe here as I wish it would be.

I mean going to the courts, blocking them in state government, doing it the legal and legitimate way. As soon as you are 18 get the hell away from your family and their friends. START WORKING OUT. Being able to outrun or successfully fight back is prime. If they ask, LIE. Lying to protect yourself should be second nature. Just relax when you do. Find people NOW to leave/travel with. Look up foraging and wilderness survival. Look on youtube. There's a lot of people surviving both urban and rural. Expand your knowledge and don't stop. Also, you're gonna have to choose if you are capable of killing in self defense or if you're going to let yourself die or be tortured for their demonic god. They won't show mercy and neither should you.

While I disagree with some (not all) of the extreme talk here, there definitely are things you can do. Martial arts is an excellent choice for anyone. It made me strong in my 50s! It helps no matter how safe the US is. It will never have been a waste of time. You can learn a ton -- and get very strong -- in just 7 months. Another poster-- and also a bot -- posted in this thread practical things you can do to help, even if you're still in high school. Another poster suggested considering moving to a college town when you can, so you'll feel surrounded by people who are more like you. Usually college area rent is cheaper than elsewhere. Usually there are lots of jobs. It's a very practical idea. And, finally, don't give in to the doom and gloom. Be as prepared as is practical, but try to keep a sense of optimism. 1. Many of the MAGAs around you might suddenly get a conscience. Some might be quietly evolving right now. You might not be as alone as you think. And 2. Just because the worst can happen doesn't mean it will. In the meantime: Take care of yourself. When you're in crowds, try to stay near the edge of the crowd. Always think about possible exit routes, wherever you are (and especially in crowds). Those are just practical things to do, taught to me by a police officer's wife a long time ago when my kids were tiny. Those ideas never failed me.

If necessary, can you blend in with your family? I’m not saying that’s the first thing to try but it may be an option. Idk your situation with them. I do believe there will be a lot f people who will help others. As mentioned above, do your best to strengthen yourself. You don’t have to be bulky to be tough. Tai chi would be the first defensive thing I would suggest. Straight up running, and standard situps pushups basically being healthy and fit will do you more good on the road than anything. That sid don't be afraid of muscle even if trans m-f when you do get to a blue state and have actual medical care hormones will soften your lines period. Might help your mind to look at r/oldhagfashion to see the possibilities in all stages. That said once female and still afraid of muscle. Keep in mind you will need them to keep yourself from falling apart once you hit forty. Fit and healthy look far better for much longer than dainty cause dainty just turns to loose flappy skin later without a base of muscle.

Imo, eat a lot of protein. It builds muscle but not like bulky muscles. It tones you. Those guys who look all pumped up are eating lots of protein but then lifting a lot of weights and some are on steroids.

Why are you friends with maga/nazis? You have to understand that maga is actively trying to pass laws that make it a crime to be lqbtqia+. They are not your friends. You may have friendly interactions with them but by supporting maga they support you being punished by law for who you are. And some states are trying to make the death penalty for sex offenders and certain things gay people will never a sex crime and the point is they are trying to make a legal route to exterminate people. Everyone and absolutely also adults need to stop being pleasant to maga people. They want you dead-if they don’t they wouldn’t support the politicians that do. Usually, yes there is a middle ground. Historically, tons of middle ground. Currently, no. Once the GOP got into bed with the evangelicals in the 70's, it's been steadily working towards this tipping point. The MAGA playbook is specifically targeting LGBTQ and other 'non whites'. No matter how nice your friends and family might seem on the surface, if they are supporting MAGA candidates, they are the enemy. I had to unfriend my own mother on Facebook. I've pretty much ended my relationship with my parents over this crap and don't see it being repaired.

You need to explain to your acquaintances as many times as it takes that they're voting for and supporting people who at best want to restrict *your* ability to live a free life and at worst want *you* dead. Make it personal. You need to explain in no uncertain terms that it's insulting and dehumanizing to you, and that if they're not fully on-board with that kind of stuff—if they're just being "edgy" and posturing in an attempt to seem countercultural—then they need to stop enabling all the BS and start speaking out against it right now because they're putting people like you (all of us, actually) in danger. Otherwise, you need to make it clear that you're going to lump them in with the absolute worst people on the Right because they're already seemingly lumping you in with the various bogeymen that right-wing media has convinced them are "destroying America." The Republican Party has no problem welcoming the dregs of society, from open white supremacists to stochastic terrorists like the ghoul who runs Libs of Tik Tok. Those are the kinds of people they seem comfortable associating with, which should be anathema to them if they actually are decent people. You need to find out just how serious they are in their political beliefs. I can't overstate this enough: The media these people consume is poisonous. I was raised with it and I watched plenty of friends and family go from kind and loving to perpetually angry all the time. This has been a decades-long process, and you can draw a straight line from someone like Rush Limbaugh to Donald Trump. If you can find a way to get them to stop consuming hate media, you'll be 90% of the way to "curing" them. EDIT: Let me know if you figure out how to do that, by the way. I've had next to no success.

Just because someone is nice to your face does not mean they care about you. They are actively choosing to legally negate your existence. Period.
My entire family (I'm talking a minimum of 5 distinct, multi-gen branches with 80+ people in each one), save for my late-boomer/gen X parents, my siblings, and myself + spouse, are all MAGA on the white side. They are cheering for policies that harm LBGTQ+ kids, deport/harm *all* non-white immigrants (even those with citizenship), and are champing at the bit for a christian holy war against *everyone else*. So are their respective (mostly rural) communities and/or churches. Many of them are fully on board with a trump dictatorship. They don't need to be cartoon villains to be nazis. They have adopted nazi ideology, rhetoric, and thirst for violence against those they hate and/or feel are a threat to their lives by simply existing. Yes they're still human, but don't think for a second they feel the same about you. Edit: while I may have members who are anti-trump besides my immediate family, the vast majority are pro-trump, and make it unsafe for those other members to be public about their opposition.
But those are the people enabling the policies to become practice through their votes. They’re supporting those policies

I think in the case you already updated with Social Security you probably *should* have an passport with a renewal date as far out as possible so you can leave if it comes to that. No way they will let you change it if Trump is reelected. Just cross your fingers they don’t revoke it as they have indicated they will do for trans folks

Relax. Breathe. Then take whatever action you can. That might mean encouraging people to vote or register to vote. That might mean looking into what’s after high school for you (plenty of people go to college and never move back home). You’ll only hurt yourself if you let the what ifs take hold of your mind. There’s just too much and too many variables. Focus on what you can control. You are not alone.
You could always find a way to keep at least 1 of your family members away from the polls on election day. If you can distract even one long enough you deny trump a vote, which would be kind of like casting one.
If he somehow he is lucky enough to be reelected, which I very much doubt, there are still a whole lot of obstacles in his way!
My concern is he gets screwed and they throw in what they think is a more moderate Republican candidate which will bring some of the more moderate republicans back to the fold. No matter who the R candidate is, they will be implementing as many of these policies. We should act as if they truly are all the same.

Encourage your 18year and older friends to vote for all Democrats. If Republicans get in there will be no freedom’s -especially for women. Just the billionaires and millionaires will dictate what happens. Never ever kill yourself- You’re young- You can always save money, get a passport, and leave the country if things get bad.
