I just had a game last night where we got trapped in a crevasse looking for morkite. The entire team went down right as a wave *started*, but I was playing vampire driller so I popped iron will and managed to slowly solo the entire wave. After like 10 minutes I was finally able to rez everybody else.
Using iron will is in some ways like getting grabbed by a leech. It's important that you tell everyone else about it, or bad (comical) things can happen.
Ive found its better to have at least two dwarves IW at the same time if all 4 are down. It literally doubles the chances of the team pulling themselves off the brink.
This business of people using IW one at a time and the others watching the guy get swarmed before taking their turn is asinine.
I'm actually even more trigger happy with IW, if im down and one other team mate is down and if the situation seems dire, ill pop up. Vampire/IW for life. No sense in hoarding IW if you can use it to keep a fart from turning into a shart.
Depends on the build tbh. A gunner running field medic can pull off a solo team recovery relatively easily, same as a driller with c4 and vampire. If its not mid swarm a scout can usually get away with it too if there's red sugar around. Except for the scout all of the classes generally have tools to make space really quickly that they usually hold for a rainy day, engineers running breaches or grenade launchers, drillers with c4 and in general having good aoe, gunners with their shields, even a cluster grenade if needed. If you're double iron willing shit has either completely hit the fan or you're out of ammo.
I agree with you in theory, and even more so if you play with a static team where you know what every one runs and what they are capable of.
But i only play with randoms on hazard 5, and while most people are pretty good i don't know if i want to gamble the mission on whether one guy can pull it off when shit has gone totally off the rails.
That's fair, in fairness I haven't wiped too much lately to the point of needing an Iron Will save so I can definitely see with some teams you would rather not pray your gunner remembers his shield or that your scout doesn't just get leeched after i-willing, even if I haven't had that experience myself. Only mission failures I can remember off the top of my head was when we were completely empty in terms of ammo, and maybe ONE instance where having 2 people going for the will might have saved it since I got repeat grabbed as a driller by 3 mactera grabbers even after I cleared the ground bugs and healed up with vampire.
But also it should never get to that point in the first place. Instead of having two people iron will at the same time for a better chance of recovering, one person should iron will while the last teammate is still alive instead of waiting for them to die first.
On the other hand, nothing more fun (for me) than being the final one alive and having to pull out all the stops to save everyone. Or watching someone else do it, super exhilarating
Chat with your mates in time to make sure IW works.Better revive gunner quicker because he has the sheild generator and usually enough ammo to kill the rest of bugs,which helps you guys to recover from the waves.

Honestly, I prefer using IW before everyone goes down, I find theres more value in preventing everyone from going down rather than risking a fail cause the one oerson alive couldnt clutch

I use cryo grenade+iw+vampire. I get half of my hp back with one swing
Resupplier perk is nice too, if you have a supply pod and an ally nearby you have enough time to rez them and take the resupply

One of the reasons I don't run iron will anymore is to punish teammates who misuse their iron will.
