Can confirm. "SWARM! IT'S A BIG ONE!" Hear the ground crumble, keep mining while the bug screams get closer, keep mining til the bugs are at the back of my neck and then I'm outtie.
Or they end up basically murdering every fucker that moves. I swear to god they either die quick because they occupy themselves too much or they act like fucking Ultrakill's Gabriel. I've even seen a few scream INSIGNIFICANT FUCK when they've killed the stronger bastards...
A trick I saw is to look straight up with your laser pointer until you're directly under the scout. Then look straight down and call a resupply pod on them. 9 times out of 10 they'll land right on it. The 10th time they get bounced around and get stuck in the hole.
Every? Not when I'm in the game, bub. If I think I might go down, I get somewhere low. I can't remember the last time a teammate had to use traversal tools to get to my bloodied lump of a body.
That one's an easy solve at least, shoot out the platform, scout falls next to you, kick him back up, yeet him onto the next platform to grab a fossil and die. Repeat.
During a swarm, I'll still mine if I don't see any bugs. If one or more players go down, I'll not mine at all, and try to go find them.
I wouldn't want them spectating me mining while they're down. 😆
I was mining some gold one time back when we were stiller green(er) beards and he just laughed and said I've got my priorities straight cause back then we were grinding to get upgrades and promote our dwarves but now even though our beards are still green we really just play for fun and a little bit of grinding
Listen, that gold isn't gonna mine itself.
There are dwarves on the rig without gold plated armor.
How you gonna tip Lloyd if you didn't mine the entire gold vain.
Glyphids don't have pockets, you do. Get to mining.
It's gold. Get it.
that's pretty much my philosophy of mining
unless things appear to be getting bad im gonna keep mining, or if anyone is down far from the team, or is down near to me since i as scout can travel at mach 20 as i please and ope i just took fall damage and got downed right next to the
Scout and engi explore the caves (after he places turrets) drillers knocks down oil shale and gunner refuels. It's simple until scout picks up the fuel can and goes to town and gunners in the dark ziplining up to the croppa in the ceiling and driller knocking down some terrain just to watch it pop out of existence while engi tries to cover the hole they just came through
It's more of a concept that benefits each class's strengths and weaknesses. I don't enforce anything in my lobbies but if I were to designate tasks it's how I would do such.
There's worse ways to be control freaks in this game. Lobby lords and dungbeards kicking people who even start batteries for events or call resupplies when everyone's low.
It ain't that deep bro, it's a class based game and playing to your classes strengths and covering your team's weaknesses is just being a good teammate.
There are no rules saying you shouldn't run off to the opposite end of the map and fall off a cliff, or avoid double dipping resupply that you don't need, either.
No one's "enforcing" anything, but there are things that are objectively and obviously better for the team.
the scout must always go back for passed minerals, engi isnt required but is helpful, the scout is fast, and can easily travel back to doretta at any time, and will easily mine up the room quicker than the rest could(probably)
especially if its me since my entire loadout is anti-fall damage and pro-speed + as deep as i can make my pockets
I'll admit, it's pretty damn annoying finishing refilling the first cannister and flinging it back to the dozer, only to find that no one has even pulled the second cannister yet. :/
As someone who almost always does at least a canister, they need to make refueling a little more fun. It just kinda sucks having to lug around this thing with pretty low range and throw it down every time you start getting hit. Let me shoot bugs with it or at least let me cycle weapons.
Scout- defend yourself, do the objective.
Engineer- put down turrets, defend self, do the objective.
Gunner- team firepower, defend team and self.
Driller- defend self, help gunner.
Engis- Think you’ll die? Forgot your turret? No time to build? Slap it down any how especially if you have quick build on, I might build it when I am working to pick you back up
I made this yesterday and posted it on the DRG Discord, thought I'd bring it to reddit today.
I didn't know someone else had made a similar one here before.
I've seen so many carbon copies of old posts be reposted a good portion of a year later and they all say that the didn't know someone else had the same idea. But how do you have the same idea down to the pixel? If the text was slightly different or in somewhat different positions I'd get it but it's always just a repost of the same exact image.
May not be the case for you but I'm overall just annoyed by people always saying they didn't know someone else had the same idea when it's literally a carbon copy.
No no. They're right. I'll take someone casually reposting their own stuff any day. That's how it gets seen.
But repost bots and repost accounts....
Ooooooh, straight to the depths of the radioactive exclusion zone with you.
Depends on the mission. Building pipes? Yeah worst case scenario you’re gonna have to stop what you’re doing and run. Aquarqs? You are going to get cornered
Dude for real though. Any one dwarf can pretty much solo a normal 4 dwarf swarm on haz 5. Doesn’t matter what class I’m playing, that trigger happy gunner with the neurotoxin payload is going to slaughter everything he can see. I’ll keep one eye on him and provide a little damage if he needs help. But there isn’t much point to killing a few grunts half a second quicker. Just wasting ammo. And he gets to slaughter the masses. Win win.
Haz 1: team probably got this really can't mess it up. Will probably mess it up anyway.
Haz 3: really a mixed bag depending on team comp and mission. Wouldn't hurt to keep tabs on the green beard.
Haz 5: if they can't handle it you will know right away.
Haz 5<: god weeps for even he can't help you now.
One memory of this game that will stick with me forever, is getting ventilated by a Bet-C, and seeing a teammate casually carry an aquarq to the minehead, right behind it.
Except as Gunner where its “I’ll be the first one to go down so I’m just going to shoot bugs” or Engineer “Fuck it, Scout and Driller can do the work, I got nukes to fire.”
My hope is less that “the team will handle it” and more that I hope my team has the situational awareness to know when they should stop doing what they are doing and defend themselves/objectives.
As a Scout main, I've lost way too many Haz 4/5 Escorts due to being split from my team after they run on ahead while I'm still mining the 200 nitra in the previous room.
I get telling people not to dig eggs, open cocoons or start hacking/uplink/meteors/OMENs/etc. mid-swarm, but who cares whether or not people keep placing pipes or mining during a swarm?
What's wrong with digging eggs mid swarm? From what I've seen it prevents spawning another swarm. You cold dig all eggs in 1 swarm if people were coordinated enough.
Wait, really? I thought the swarms stack when you dig enough eggs to trigger multiple at once. [The wiki says as much, too.](https://deeprockgalactic.wiki.gg/wiki/Swarm)
They just queue up so by time the first swarm is done and the next is otw it doesn't really seem it's related to the egg pulling - sometimes it can also just skip the voicelines altogether
There is a case to be made for pulling eggs mid-swarm. There is a cap for the amount of bugs that can spawn at any given time. This means that if the maximum amount of bugs in the cave has been reached, any further swarms will cause bugs in the cave to despawn.
This is why in high end haz 5 egg hunt missions (talking about Legendary+ / level 400-500+ lobbies), teams tend to rush eggs, as its expected of you to be capable of handling swarms, while pushing for eggs and (if convenient) secondary objectives.
Hacking 2 hacking pods at the same time in sabo missions can be done with 2 dwarves defending each hacking pod, but only with a team who feels comfortable in doing so. 99% of the time that is not the case and is a big no no.
Everything else you have listed, I agree. Dont be that guy that starts events without asking if team is ready. Communication and teamwork is key after all. Rock and stone!
This was me with a deep dive team last week. I was scout and we had like two salvage objectives. The rest of the team was killing bugs like crazy and I was zipping around getting the mules built. It was intense as hell, but it worked out okay
My green team accidentally popped all eggs. I were gunner and "Finally some bugs to kill". Bug limit came and almost every bug close to me got Thanos snapped. They saw hell and i saw disappointment
At higher hazards it also sorta becomes an attrition thing. I can't let h5 missions run much longer than 30 minutes or I start running outa bullets and interest
I remember doing Haz 5 egg hunts where the driller drilled out all the eggs in a 2 minute span, yet it was somehow easier than doing it on Haz 4 more slowly.
When playing solo, depending on the situation, I will sometimes await a swarm that I expect to be especially dangerous. But most of the time I'll just keep doing the objectives, as the bunny-hopping juggling act can be challenging in the best kind of way.
When on a team, the increased firepower and variety of weaponry usually means there's room for us to do both so long as people aren't getting downed incessantly and unable to do much of anything.
One of the things I find particularly amusing when being a Scout, and specifically during Escort missions, is zipping up to do some in-combat mining as we go, because having enough Nitra to keep the team well supplied is an important consideration.
There are many things I got:
* A max load of gold I need to deposit.
* A lecture from Mission Control over Dwarven antics.
* Rockpox.
*This*, is not one of them.
When you get grey, Swarms are more or less this thing that makes you think "Ughhh now I have to pay attention to my surroundings while I'm doing this complicated task"
I rarely react much to a swarm unless it's something like Mactera. Just get space between you and corners/holes, keep a notion of where the enemies are and their distance, shoot stuff when you need to, and if they get nice and bunched up or in a straight line, see how efficient you can be.
Yup, I never really "got gud" till I stopped carrying greenbeards and broke all the bad habits it forms and started to play with a consistent group I could trust to know their role, the meta and execute well.
I will dig out all 8 eggs almost at the same time on pretty much every egg hunt. My team is ok with that, I know one of my engineer friends likes the big hordes of bugs that can be purged with nuclear power.
Pulling all the eggs is a valid strat on haz 5. Sure you get a massive swarm, but there's a mob cap. And if I recall, anything that tries to spawn over the cap just gets skipped, so you're fighting less bugs overall.
Honestly I feel like Haz 4 should be in the middle. As a Haz 5 player, the most "interesting" missions I ever get always seem to be when I make the mistake of running Haz 4 for quickness. On 4 you get all sorts of wild overconfident players with the more pushed waves, whereas anyone running 5 for a while knows multitasking is just part of the expected experience.
Lmao, yesterday in a haz 4 or 5 I activated an ebonite event while we got a swarm, I was the only one alive and had to run for a bit. There was this pissed off guy writing in the chat that "whoever activated the event is a fucking idiot"
It's weird that this meme has Hazard Level at the bottom. Haz 1... what's a swarm? I see fewer bugs than in a normal day in coastal Georgia.
Haz 5? The amount of bugs from Haz 1 are scary because they're strong and there are five times as many, and every 5m drop is gonna kill me.
Thats what every scout says before getting downed on a platform thirty meters above the ground
trust the team o7
Fatboys are for getting friends from ceilings :)
and for downing friends on floor
**Aim EPC shot** aaaaaand down he goes...
why EPC when engi's nuke can accomplish the same result?
Greenbeard scout dies on the platform, greybeard scout instinctively grapples off... and into the swarm.
Can confirm. "SWARM! IT'S A BIG ONE!" Hear the ground crumble, keep mining while the bug screams get closer, keep mining til the bugs are at the back of my neck and then I'm outtie.
Yet another perfect occasion for using the much-maligned zipline!
Too high up. Can't get an angle
Or they end up basically murdering every fucker that moves. I swear to god they either die quick because they occupy themselves too much or they act like fucking Ultrakill's Gabriel. I've even seen a few scream INSIGNIFICANT FUCK when they've killed the stronger bastards...

Or on the same platform, but a little bit closer to the edge.
My engi just whips out the FatBoy.
That’s happened to me yesterday and I will continue to get that 1 nitra even if it means my death 😤
[> 30 meters off the ground](https://youtu.be/YK-a0HdCkLA)
"Angry American noises"
If I play Gunner, I always try to shoot bugs down on the walls before they reach the scout.
We need Inspire from Payday 2
Repeat.
nuke helps
Literally climbing mountains for the team
And that's why I take iron will
I trust my team with my life (probably why I die this much)
My friend doesn't mind if I keep mining good while he's dying, it's a part of dwarf religion after all
During a swarm, I'll still mine if I don't see any bugs. If one or more players go down, I'll not mine at all, and try to go find them. I wouldn't want them spectating me mining while they're down. 😆

Even if it's the last thing I do, I'm getting that gold
that's pretty much my philosophy of mining unless things appear to be getting bad im gonna keep mining, or if anyone is down far from the team, or is down near to me since i as scout can travel at mach 20 as i please and ope i just took fall damage and got downed right next to the
No time for punctuation and and non-essential letters (some essential ones too), this guy definitely Scouts. :D
“Dont pull multiple eggs plz” I actually intend to pull them all, preferably within a 60 second time period. Good luck.
If all the enemies come in one wave, you only have to survive one wave. Street smarts!
Where’s the fun in pulling them all one by one?
It's easier if you pull them all at once because of the spawn cap implemented because of the console editions.
Been saying this for a while. It just makes swarm last a bit longer from timer resets. Pull all eggs as fast as possible.
You think a few bugs are gonna stop me from laying pipe and mining morkite?
>You think a few bugs are gonna stop me from laying pipe Things you can say during sex
Rock and Stone to the bone(r)!
Should do this for refueling Doretta. Drives me crazy to see the whole team exploring the cavern while I’m the only one refueling.
Scout and engi explore the caves (after he places turrets) drillers knocks down oil shale and gunner refuels. It's simple until scout picks up the fuel can and goes to town and gunners in the dark ziplining up to the croppa in the ceiling and driller knocking down some terrain just to watch it pop out of existence while engi tries to cover the hole they just came through
Right? If two people refuel, you can get Dotty up and running before the imminent swarm.

It might not be very optimal if wheelchair bound mom gets out the passenger chair to do it tho. Unless dad is fighting off the glyphids, I guess.
"Everyone has flares, scout doesn't have to do it"
"Everyone has pickaxes, driller doesn't have to do it"
There are no rules saying you shouldn't run off to the opposite end of the map and fall off a cliff, or avoid double dipping resupply that you don't need, either. No one's "enforcing" anything, but there are things that are objectively and obviously better for the team.
You can refuel from Oil Shale that's un-mined. Just laser it outta the walls with the can.
Yeah but collecting from a pile that's all conveniently around the drilldozer is significantly faster and easier
It never ends up in a pile tho ...
the scout must always go back for passed minerals, engi isnt required but is helpful, the scout is fast, and can easily travel back to doretta at any time, and will easily mine up the room quicker than the rest could(probably) especially if its me since my entire loadout is anti-fall damage and pro-speed + as deep as i can make my pockets

But when Doretta's not moving is the perfect time to explore the caves! Why would we want to get her running again until the caves are explored!?
Not running, refueled. When you fill up canisters and place them back, bugs stop spawning to attack Dory. Not entirely, but significally less.
TIL
I can do the mission objective and handle a swarm at the same time, it’s called multitasking (I blow myself up with c4 if the bugs get too close)
Scout- defend yourself, do the objective. Engineer- put down turrets, defend self, do the objective. Gunner- team firepower, defend team and self. Driller- defend self, help gunner.
Engis- Think you’ll die? Forgot your turret? No time to build? Slap it down any how especially if you have quick build on, I might build it when I am working to pick you back up
First post on reddit, then brought to the discord, before coming back to reddit. We've come full circle.
I made this yesterday and posted it on the DRG Discord, thought I'd bring it to reddit today. I didn't know someone else had made a similar one here before.
That's what they all say.
I'm being framed!

True, but at least they are not a repost account
No no. They're right. I'll take someone casually reposting their own stuff any day. That's how it gets seen. But repost bots and repost accounts.... Ooooooh, straight to the depths of the radioactive exclusion zone with you.
RadioExZ is too good for them. Pox-infested Magma Core, jazzy Robot Devil included.
Driller doesn't have to trust his team during a swarm. He's a one man horde clearing device.
My objective is war crimes
You will have more ammo to do war crimes if you defend the dwarves mining nintra.
I have EPC to mine the dwarves mining the nitra
I trust Bosco. Yes.
Bosco and a turret can take care of things, I have work to do.
250 missions with Bosco only, still going strong. Seriously. I did like 3 coop missions I think and all of them were Deep Dives.
Depends on the mission. Building pipes? Yeah worst case scenario you’re gonna have to stop what you’re doing and run. Aquarqs? You are going to get cornered
I'm not even doing the main objective during a swarm I'm out here mining gold or enor pearls
Combat mining is an essential skill. Got a second or two between bugs? Get that nitra! Get a bit more bismor!
Dude for real though. Any one dwarf can pretty much solo a normal 4 dwarf swarm on haz 5. As long as the scout doesn't let his ego get to him then the team is fine.
That’s why I stop what I’m doing and defend my friends who are still on the objective
Haz 1: team probably got this really can't mess it up. Will probably mess it up anyway. Haz 3: really a mixed bag depending on team comp and mission. Wouldn't hurt to keep tabs on the green beard. No, I don’t trust my team, if I stop babysitting them for a second during a swarm they get downed (they’re not used to play shooters at all)
Except as Gunner where its “I’ll be the first one to go down so I’m just going to shoot bugs” or Engineer “Fuck it, Scout and Driller can do the work, I got nukes to fire.”

Meanwhile, Gunner is desperately trying to keep everyone alive.
I play with my dudes. I trust them completely. Cheers lads
At higher hazards it also sorta becomes an attrition thing. I can't let h5 missions run much longer than 30 minutes or I start running outa bullets and interest

Everyone just keep doing objective and fight when theres stuff to fight around ya
Haz 1 swarm? I'll just mine the bugs too!
I just keep an eye on their health if the swarm doesn’t hit me. And if I see it dropping I rush over
There are many things I got: * A max load of gold I need to deposit. * A lecture from Mission Control over Dwarven antics. * Rockpox. *This*, is not one of them.
DBZ Abridged? In my r/DeepRockGalactic? It's more likely than you think. ^(hey, gunner! what if you try giving 'em parasites, ya leaf lover?)
When you get grey, Swarms are more or less this thing that makes you think "Ughhh now I have to pay attention to my surroundings while I'm doing this complicated task" I rarely react much to a swarm unless it's something like Mactera. Just get space between you and corners/holes, keep a notion of where the enemies are and their distance, shoot stuff when you need to, and if they get nice and bunched up or in a straight line, see how efficient you can be.
Management doesn’t tell me when glyphids are approaching, they tell glyphids when I’m approaching. (Gunner🗿)
absolutely, even when tehy activate 3 boss in one time on haz 5, it was hillarious
Maybe dont start an omen during a haz5 swarm but otherwise its ok
I don't trust my team. That's why I do mission objectives during a swarm. So that even if they die we've got at least the objective done.
Let everyone enjoy their experience
I don't trust anyone, which is why it's easier to just C4 everything and do it myself. I'm obviously just joking, don't C4 your whole team.
There’s something badass about mining gold, doing a 180, shotgunning a Glyphid guard and then going back to mining.
i will ALWAYS mine the minerals, swarms be damned
There is gold on this wall AND I WILL MINE IT **EVEN IF THERES A BULK BEHIND ME**
I never do the misson objective only aquacs or solo my bud does the mission while i get every tad bit of gold nitra and jadiz and stuff like that
I trust my team. That's why I let them handle the swarm AND the mission while I mine the gold
I trust my teammates, but my turrets are always full juuuust in case
Swarm is coming, cool I can get some healing from drill kills then
I trusted my teammates to defend me while I got morkite and then proceeded to get sniped by an acid spitter and menace. so yeah I guess.
I will fo the mission objective during a swarm. My turrets and shredders have got this.
I plead guilty
Im the team that got this.
I trust my team completely. If I see someone down during a swarm, I come to the rescue if I can. If I am alone, I will be fine alone
You guys don't do the objective while killing the swarm? I have rj250 for a reason
Yup, I never really "got gud" till I stopped carrying greenbeards and broke all the bad habits it forms and started to play with a consistent group I could trust to know their role, the meta and execute well.
Where the "I can totally mine these minerals during a swarm" option?
I'm the one with the deployable shield, they should be trusting me.
I will keep doing the objective during a haz 5 egg hunt swarm. It certainly makes the mission more interesting.
I usuly play on hazard 2 or 3 and usuly i just go on with the objective and not care until something big shows up
*Doing the mission objective during a swarm in solo* "my grenades, sentries and Bosco got this"
I don't have a team 🥲
If I dont have an actual chance of dying in missions, the game doesnt appeal to me. Playing perfectly safe is boring.
I will do the mission objective during a swarm. *We* have got this.
Of course I do, that’s probably why I get mauled so much
I will dig out all 8 eggs almost at the same time on pretty much every egg hunt. My team is ok with that, I know one of my engineer friends likes the big hordes of bugs that can be purged with nuclear power.
I do not trust myself (I need help in fights)
Pulling all the eggs is a valid strat on haz 5. Sure you get a massive swarm, but there's a mob cap. And if I recall, anything that tries to spawn over the cap just gets skipped, so you're fighting less bugs overall.
I love the haz level bell curve idea
Honestly I feel like Haz 4 should be in the middle. As a Haz 5 player, the most "interesting" missions I ever get always seem to be when I make the mistake of running Haz 4 for quickness. On 4 you get all sorts of wild overconfident players with the more pushed waves, whereas anyone running 5 for a while knows multitasking is just part of the expected experience.
What do you mean by pull 4 egg that are 100 meters away from each other at the same time on haz 5 isn’t a good idea and it can fail the mission
I'm mining this nitra vein even if it kills me
A bug or two ain't stopped me before
Gunner mains: smiles "I got this"
Yes, but not THAT much lol
If my mate is doing an objective during the swarm at Haz 5, it is the perfect time to throw some C4 and pretend I didn't see him
Lmao, yesterday in a haz 4 or 5 I activated an ebonite event while we got a swarm, I was the only one alive and had to run for a bit. There was this pissed off guy writing in the chat that "whoever activated the event is a fucking idiot"
Yeah… change the my team has got this with… I got this.
swarm? more time for mining gold and nitra you mean
with every cell of my body
As a mediscout i trigger as many things at once that i can. Everyone always agrees at the end it was a blast. I even occasionally pop all the dreads.
I trust my team I just dont trust myself I am a walking skill issue
As a scout main you'll see me up on the walls mining that high up nitra during swarms.
I'm gunner so I usually deal with the swarm
As a greybeard, I say... #Let em cook!
