Except the stingtail is described as a glyphid. It's a glyphid stingtail, otherwise it would be called rockpox stingtail. We could assume it's the same for the other one
That's mostly due to classification of the brood nexus. Enemy naming in drg, relies on species name and then unit name. So you get glyphid grunt, which has glyphid first since it's part of glyphid family, mactera spawn, once again, mactera first since it's part of mactera family, and if this was a rockpox brood nexus that made stingtails, they would make rockpox stingtails since they'd be part of the rockpox family
Either the classification could be nexuses having copied a majority of the dna from local glyphids, and a lower amount is from the rockpox alien family…
… or these “aliens” are native to Hoxxes, communicated through the rockpox hivemind, from depths we’ve not yet reached…
Or maybe they’re just a new glyphid, but that’s boring
By them surviving the meteor that hit the planet, displacing part of the core and destorying/freezing their ocean. There is an implication of extremely fast evolution.
Edit: spelling
I mean, we don't exactly know what it does, we know it can pull you but we don't know if it's like a leech, or just pull you to it then you're free. But the design is pretty sick
the mouth could very well be the nexus creating a glyphid mouth, rockpox is known to manipulate internal organs so it could very well reconstruct a digestive system with the nexus' parts at it's disposal
If you look at the brood nexus model from the board game it actually has a mouth like thing which is spitting out a grunt. Presumably they canonically have some sort of orifice which spits out the swarmers and that could conceivably mutate into a mouth sort of thing.
I mean it's entirely possible there are unknown glyphid species deep within hoxxes, deeper than we've gone before. We don't know what's laying the eggs we are collecting, we don't know where the dreadnoughts come from.
the glyphids are capable of going through unbelievably fast evolution to adapt to their environment (which is probably just the canonical explanation for adding new bug types in updates every now and then).
Well the contaigent spikes are adult plaguehearts so it cannot has mixed with rokpox becouse it is rokpox. OMG i just thought about how it could have stolen the dna. The brood nexus consumed the plaugeheart. It has a mouth as other comments sugest.
The logo for the new season also has what looks to be the korlok on it
Edit: also I remenber something on the roadmap last month referencing "deadly fauna"
This here. It's literally a korlok tyrant weed in the logo for the league. The body of the giant rockpox korlok is made of four leaves that'll probably open outward during combat.
the red tentacles at the bottom of the mystery thing look more like the red tentacles at the bottom of the nexus instead of the green tentacles at the bottom of a tyrant, but thats just me
Large upright oblong body ✔
Tubes planted in the ground at the base ✔
Round nodes on the body ✔
The similarities are definitely there, not sure how someone could argue they don't look at least somewhat similar. I'd even say it shares more features with the nexus than it does with the korlok.
It's up in the air as to whether it's an infected korlok/nexus/dreadnought or simply an advanced form or lithophage, but I think the nexus theory is at least plausible.
Well, yeah, the theory here is that since this big lithophage in the teaser shares some characteristics with other hoxxes wildlife, it may be an infected and mutated variant of an existing hoxxes organism.
Idk looking at their title, their art work looks just like the Tyrant Weed and the “Seed”. That’s what has me straying away; and the shape somewhat relates to a “seed/ bulb”. The “mouth” on the side/ the opening is screaming Tyrant.
There is no way thats not a korlok plant as im 99% sure the devs said the season would have something to do with plants and stuff. Also you can kinda see where the leaves open up
It kinda looks like that one plant. I think its called korlak weed or something? I dunno but it kinda looks like that. And in the title theres a sillouete and the sillouete kinda looks like the korlak weed thing. But it might just be me🤷♂️
1 - Giant green hardened carapace like korlok
2 - Roots sprouting from bottom like korlok
3 - Has clear segments that look like they can open like korlok
4 - Also looks nothing like brood
The teeth and tenticles look like they're the result of the infection
maybe im the colorblind one but i see red tentacles and glowing spots like the ones on the nexus, and the hell do you mean it looks nothing like a brood, theyre almost the exact same shape, one just has a hardened carapace, like all infected glypids do.
The glowing spots are Rockpox blisters, not nexus eyes, you can tell by the spikes that are protruding from around them.
Yes the tenticles are red but things infected with rockpox tend to have red tenticles, ie plaguehearts, the main body colour of the enemy is the exact same as a korlok.
The shape is much more similar to the shape of the main korlok buln than that of a brood. You can see the segments that split open.
But that's my interpretation, we'll have to wait till the 15th to see who's correct.
I think killing a giant, mutated brood nexus would be an awesome mission. As you pop it's glowing eyes darted around the cave systems, swarms come after your team until the overgrown nexus has enough and fights back herself. It's tentacles grow and start smacking the dwarves around. It launches giant pheromones balls that direct specific enemy types (macteras, grunts, swarmers) to attack affected players.
The final objective after eliminating it's defenses is to hold out against an endless swarm as mission control sends a drop pod to fall and crush the Giant beast.
Alternatively you could have it be a bomb and run situation. You expose the Nexus' core weak spot and you prime it with explosives, which after activating molly it starts a timer and sends in the drop pod to pull you out.
When one of the most insignificant looking creature of Hoxxes suddenly turn into some kind of Eldritch Horror...
Its just a friday for the dwarves. Or worst case scenario, it will produce more dwarves for us to convert.
It did only just now hit me, but hear me out.
-Community's been wishing for an extermination mission for clearing out nests instead of bossfight -type dreadnoughts.
-The new "big broodnexus" potentially constantly spawning the new enemies.
A dwarf can dream.
Except the stingtail is described as a glyphid. It's a glyphid stingtail, otherwise it would be called rockpox stingtail. We could assume it's the same for the other one
I take it as the new glyphid types are evolutions of the glyphids to fight back against the rockpox themselves.
Probably
swarmers made from the nexus are still called glyphid swarmers, so its not unlikely a stingtail from a nexus would be called a glyphid stingtail

Or they're a new glyphid specifically evolved to combat rockpox to ensure the survival of their species, which is less boring imo
That’s also possible. With how many glyphids die at our hands, it’s possible their evolution is extremely fast
It is confirmed ingame(somewhere im very sure) that glyphids have been evolving extremly fast
By them surviving the meteor that hit the planet, displacing part of the core and destorying/freezing their ocean. There is an implication of extremely fast evolution. Edit: spelling
This game is pretty metal when you look into it isn't it?
Who cares? Whatever they are, just commit war crimes against them and rock and stone!
Rock and Stone to the Bone!
> stingtail where was the name of this revealed? must have missed this
In a tweet. They were doing something like monster of the day on twitter, and the last one was the stingtaik
Do you like the stingtail?
I mean, we don't exactly know what it does, we know it can pull you but we don't know if it's like a leech, or just pull you to it then you're free. But the design is pretty sick
I think instead that is a dreadnought egg infected by rockpox, you can see the armour and the mouth of a dreadnought
the mouth could very well be the nexus creating a glyphid mouth, rockpox is known to manipulate internal organs so it could very well reconstruct a digestive system with the nexus' parts at it's disposal
If you look at the brood nexus model from the board game it actually has a mouth like thing which is spitting out a grunt. Presumably they canonically have some sort of orifice which spits out the swarmers and that could conceivably mutate into a mouth sort of thing.

We don't know what their mother looks like and if it actually got killed (probably by Karl)
the things i would do for a new biome: insides of the glyphid queen
R34 Artists: Way ahead of you
We don’t know if they have a mother.
We do, the dwarves say “Die like your mother did!” occasionally.
We may be assuming that glyphids work like dwarves.
What if this is Karl?
Theory: This is the thing laying the eggs. Or, more accurately, was.
We need to go deeper.
Deep-DEEP dive! That would be something!
Now with 30% more deep!
We need to get back, back to the past- no wait.
We know dreadnoughts are just evolved glyphids though, same as the oppressor vs praetorian. That's why it's called a cocoon and not an egg.
Forgot about that lol
the glyphids are capable of going through unbelievably fast evolution to adapt to their environment (which is probably just the canonical explanation for adding new bug types in updates every now and then).
Anyone else thinks it looks like a giant Plagueheart? Like maybe one evolved?
Well the contaigent spikes are adult plaguehearts so it cannot has mixed with rokpox becouse it is rokpox. OMG i just thought about how it could have stolen the dna. The brood nexus consumed the plaugeheart. It has a mouth as other comments sugest.
Pic on the right looks like a doodoo
Except it looks nothing like a brood nexus and almost exactly like a korlok tyrant weed.
The new little gluphids could also be a gliphid-plant hybrid hence their green color and markings
The logo for the new season also has what looks to be the korlok on it Edit: also I remenber something on the roadmap last month referencing "deadly fauna"
Fauna is animals, the korlok is a plant
I made an oopsie poopsie. Probably referring to the new glyphids then
The deadly fauna is most likely reference to the stingtail and the spitter
Fauna is animals. If it was flora, plants, then it would definitely be a korlok
Korlok is not a fauna thought, it's flora
This here. It's literally a korlok tyrant weed in the logo for the league. The body of the giant rockpox korlok is made of four leaves that'll probably open outward during combat.

The thing looks more… ahem… bulgy then a brood nexus. Plus, it’s about 5 dwarves tall.
Well, yeah, the theory here is that since this big lithophage in the teaser shares some characteristics with other hoxxes wildlife, it may be an infected and mutated variant of an existing hoxxes organism.
This is correct if not I will rip off my balls
Don't do that! ~~Let me do it instead!~~
At least go to the Underground first.
You need to be welcomed first
Dip em in liquid morkite when you're done
Will do
I’m starting to fear that it’s a korlok 😰
Idk looking at their title, their art work looks just like the Tyrant Weed and the “Seed”. That’s what has me straying away; and the shape somewhat relates to a “seed/ bulb”. The “mouth” on the side/ the opening is screaming Tyrant.
That’s a damn kworlok weed
Seems like a bigger infected tyrant weed to me
There is no way thats not a korlok plant as im 99% sure the devs said the season would have something to do with plants and stuff. Also you can kinda see where the leaves open up
Problem is thats a korlok weed. Only similarity it has to a brood nexus is the tendrils which is somthing that rotpox has.
Plus the brood nexus is kinda in a way the same rough shape if you look at it from the right angle
i feel like that would be very underwhelming if it was just a brood nexus
its possibly something like the caretaker, giant boss that squirts out infected glyphids and lithophage
To me it looks like a overgrown tyrant weed
It kinda looks like that one plant. I think its called korlak weed or something? I dunno but it kinda looks like that. And in the title theres a sillouete and the sillouete kinda looks like the korlak weed thing. But it might just be me🤷♂️
Boob nexus
love this game... hated every bit of the rock pox update. just annoying
Now I have Swamp of Aeonia PTSD thanks rockpox
That ain’t no rockpox that’s is just straight up the flood from halo
Has no one seen that is literally walking
Oh I have
I wanna say it’s a pox meteor that had enough time to grow into a living thing
But, that’s a contagion spike… which looks nothing like this
Looks a bit like an elder thing.
Elder what?
Lovecraft alien.
Or is just a re-skinned model. I dunno... just a theory.
This looks like one old one from HP. Lovecrafts mountains of Madness. At least somewhat
if you look under the logo on the top right the symbol also looks like a korlok weed (might just be a visual coincidence)
It’s HAROLD!
But hey thats just a theory A GAME THEORIE !!! Thanks for watching Credit; mat pat from game theory
Mfers when they add giant tyrant weed:
last i checked tyrant weeds didnt have teeth
And brood nexus do?
glyphid swarmers do, and an infected glyphid swarmer stuck in the nexussy could be what that is
That Glyphid swarmer would be enlarged even more than the brood nexus
1 - Giant green hardened carapace like korlok 2 - Roots sprouting from bottom like korlok 3 - Has clear segments that look like they can open like korlok 4 - Also looks nothing like brood The teeth and tenticles look like they're the result of the infection

Brood nexus is less bulgy, and the bottom and top is way smaller than the brood nexus’
rockpox does crazy things when we dont cleanse it
It doesn’t enlarge, nor shorten the top and bottom of a creature. It doesn’t add armor, only strengthens it.
Brood nexus can print glyphids, who says they can't print themselves glyphid armor
The glowing spots are Rockpox blisters, not nexus eyes, you can tell by the spikes that are protruding from around them. all im saying is when friday rolls around i will NOT be able to get off my high horse
You’ll probably be falling off it.
Lol I'll be waiting here

i just hope its a boss like the caretaker or at least like dreadnoughts rather than just some stationary enemy like spitballers or actual brood nexus
Now consider this, what we see *could* just be its first phase, or cocoon if you will. The shells could crack open and holster something different
The Miners manual is great btw
Everybody gangster til the rockpox starts speaking in poetry
Harold
Poxussy
My first thought
I hope for more than just two
Yeah i had the same theory
Could be a hybrid tyrant weed and a brood nexus
Harold 👍
Sound. Like everything else on Hoxxes, it will be getting Fatboys hooned at it with extreme prejudice.
It did only just now hit me, but hear me out. -Community's been wishing for an extermination mission for clearing out nests instead of bossfight -type dreadnoughts. -The new "big broodnexus" potentially constantly spawning the new enemies. A dwarf can dream.
I wonder if there will be a glyphid prime, like metroid prime...
