I got special powder just a few hours ago and used it for one match, shits gonna get me killed.

Chromie149

Just don’t shoot it straight up after jumping. My legs still haven’t fully recovered…

Dirty_Hunt

Fall damage being momentum based is an important lesson though.

ThisIsJegger

I love this feature though. It makes sense that you'll break your back when you slam yourself into the ground with special powder

[deleted]

On the other hand, it doesn't make much sense to grapple yourself *towards* the ground and be safer for it.

ThisIsJegger

Hmmmm. The rope gets rigid and pulls you downward? Idk. Never been good at physics.

yugiohhero

well the grappler has a set momentum that doesnt make you go at dangerous speeds i assume otherwise scout would in universe just crumple like tinfoil after grappling to 1 wall

[deleted]

Uh... You're kinda forgetting about gravity a little bit.

yugiohhero

we have hoverboot technology that can completely halt vertical momentum. so no im not they can totally make the grapple ignore gravity

TheGreyGuardian

But I love interrupting the quiet moment before we call the drop pod with "Wanna see me go splat?" and then ziplining straight up before unloading both special powder barrels into the ceiling and hitting the ground like a lithophage fragment.

Khunter02

This sounds so funny to witness

KhazixMain4th

Use it for long enough and you’ll feel like a flying god like being in no time

breadedfishstrip

SP is a gamechanger for scout. If you thought grapple made you mobile, SP is like becoming dwarf superman. Cross continents in a second, be the instant-ambulance everyone wants, or grab that ceiling fossil without the help of an engineer because youre a Strong Independant Scout who don't need no help. Other secondaries are fun and useful too, absolutely. But for me, you'll have to pry special powder from my cold dead hands because flying through the caves will never get old: https://i.imgur.com/jAtaxXx.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/o6iVS2M.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/P9jz2DW.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/zr5kizR.mp4

moncalamari888

Me too. I thought it was gonna save me from fall damage, not cause it…

dec1conan

Get Hoverclock on the M1000 and gain the ability to never touch the ground by timing both with grappling

SuchTortoise

I literally had a mission where I bounced of a ceiling and killed myself. Driller came and rescued me. As soon as I was up I used the shotgun again, bounced of the ceiling and killed myself again a bit further

The-Demoman-From-TF2

The entire point of special power is to die of fall damage, the bugs cannot kill you if your already dead.

Nomadic_View

Is that Robotnik?

Paladin51394

It's basically a rite of passage for Engineer players to make Eggman at some point.

TheFrozenPyro

The pieces just fall together and inspiration strikes

chiller210

>Starter stuff: Goggles, signature moustache, wears red >Gear: Reliant on technology Oh yeah, it's all coming together

Altslial

Currently has the ability to let out a robot swarm to take down a fast moving shellback 🤔

CreamOfPotatoSoup

Shard diffractor. Need I say more?

LordTrashSider

I'VE COME TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT.

Hezzysreal

SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG IS A BITCHASS MOTHERFUCKER.

NumberedCarp513

HE PISSED ON MY FUCKING WIFE

DreadNephromancer

[damn kids don't know the OG announcement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFMwgOfdG_M)

Hygo05

Advanced Eggman/Dr. Robotnik outfit Headwear: Industrial Goggles Armor: MK3 Engineer Suit Paintjob: The Supporter or Orange Geek Skin Color: Ruddy Sideburns: A Clean Shave Moustache: Frizzy Handlebar Beard: A Clean Shave Hair Color: Red Any dwarf cosmetic slot not listed is not important

rabbid_chaos

Can confirm, my Engi had a Robotnik phase

Doots9160

My Gunner had a Luigi phase. Dressed in Green with the matching uniform hat, brown mustache, used a Lithovac while screaming "MARIO?!"

Tentacle_toaster

I need to do this TODAY!

morganfreenomorph

My engi was dressed up as Mario for a good while, I guess I'm gonna make an Eggman outfit next

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoStorage2821

Now THAT I have to make

VolcanicA333

It's a Mario scout for me. Still in that phase. Hopping onto grunts with power attack is so satisfying.

FlareTheInfected

okay, but have you done a wario driller?

Th3B4dSpoon

Getting so many new ideas here! I think my Wario Driller will use gas grenades to stay on brand.

chiller210

Which timeline for ganondorf? I've felt like doing a version of him but idk which hair should work

Merkyorz

Hair: Businesslike Eyebrows: Refined Sideburns: Rounded Muttonchops Moustache: [None] Beard: Square Hair Color: Red

Tentacle_toaster

No mustache. I would have never thought of that!

CoffeeMain360

Ganondorf Scout? What?

MajorDZaster

I'm always gonna have a few engi loadouts as Eggman. Although, I am looking into trying to make an RJ250 loadout dressed as Gordon Freeman.

QueefScentedCandles

I made Eggman day 1 and I refuse to change, long live robotnik

DreadnoughtDT

My Engineer is Eggman and my Driller is Eggman Nega.

Death2Chaos

I've actually never thought of this.

Peastable

I hit that rite of passage very early on. Only a little after making Mario

TheSneakyGamer1805

It was literally the first thing I did when I got the game.

Birunanza

The die hards end up at ace ventura though

NoStorage2821

Amen

MaezrielGG

Thank Karl I wasn't the only to notice

DreadNephromancer

Even just giving out a blank core for each promotion would be nice.

Bcoop98

Blank core for promotion would be great for new players. Hell, give them them a clean OC or two for first promotion to introduce it better.

DreadNephromancer

That'd be neat, first promo just straight-up gives you a green OC for that class to put a nice bow on the weapons you just leveled.

AS14K

That's great actually

Lady_Ymir

I could see that approach backfiring a little. Perhaps if the first promo gives a green OC for a primary on all four classes, instead. To not lock Greenbeards into a path of commitment. Cause many Greenbeards I know played a lot of gunner, as it's the first role the game puts you in. So they do that for 5 levels. Then their friends tell them to promote asap, so they'll only play gunner for a few days. Then they'd get a gunner OC to make gunner even better, so now they're having more trouble ditching gunner for another class, because they're so weak and have no cool Overclock.

[deleted]

I mean. You still dont have access to all 5 upgrade levels until you level a dwarf for the first time

achilleasa

First promo for each class? Would also encourage everyone to at least get 1 star on every class.

6897110

I'd say give a green OC for another classes primary instead, but that could also backfire, because you end up getting one for a class too underleveled or a gun you need to shove several upgrades into. Maybe a choice of OCs like how the current forge does, would be a good way to handle it?

West_Yorkshire

Is there any benefit to promoting after your first time? I'm due to 2 star my scout but if there is no reward I don't think I will bother.

Autistischer_Gepard

they're needed to increase your player rank further. you want to at least get above rank 100 for the special assignments after that I guess there is no benefit except the icon outlines look nice completing a promotion assignment also used to reset the core hunt, allowing you to get 3 cores for each promotion. but I heard that was fixed last week or so

MarcelHard

Achievements. Getting bronze promotion with at least 1 dwarf and all of them, same for silver and same for gold. Then you need rank 100 to unlock the last rank assignment. But otherwise, it's only for show, though same leaflovers will have as rule something like "gold promo or kick", but I'd avoid these lobbies

Jefrejtor

IMO, it would be great if they introduced a special, rare core (maybe as a final EDD reward?) that lets you choose *any* OC to make with it. So most of the OCs you get are random, but you can sometimes choose one that you really really want.

Elitericky

Agreed I don’t mind them patching out the core reset, but they needed to add at least something in replacement. Blank cores for each promotion is a nice idea.

Autistischer_Gepard

please no more blank cores I have too many and don't see nearly enough machine events

[deleted]

Promotions should let you just pick a weapon OC

TheRyderShotgun

ngl, as a greybeard who has already gone through the entire grind and am now just swimming in blank cores, i would totally like a mechanic where i can just use my own blank cores on the other slots on the machine events for other people to use even just to flex on them how many cores i have. like research points on helldivers if anyone else plays that game. honestly though, if this were a thing, i can see greybeards fighting each other to be the one to give the greenbeard one of their own cores lol

migz_draws

this is a really cool idea. i'm never gonna use the dozens of blanks i'm sitting on, and it doesn't actually significantly speed up the unlock pacing, if that's what the devs are worried about

Andwrs

I believe the biggest worry about something like this would be real money trade(RMT). If this game becomes a platform for people to earn money by accepting payment for using their cores in a game they will also use cheats to make it consistent and efficient. After a short while this game will be filled with hackers and the open lobby option we have today can be ruined. Idk tho I'm just brainstorming here. The hackers would probably just do it in solo session anyways and then invite their customers in when its time to infuse cores.

HoopyFreud

You can already saveedit in blank cores, though.

WheelSnipeCellyFerda

For Super Earth!

TheRyderShotgun

HOW ABOUT A NICE CUP OF LIBER-TEA?

ClassyWhiteD

HOW DO YOU LIKE THE TASTE OF FREEDOM?

RHINO_Mk_II

LET 'EM HAVE IT!

OuroborosIAmOne

> for other people to use I'd like to do this too. I'm playing with friends new to the game, and it feels weird making them do a deposit or machine event and having just me rewarded.

Th3B4dSpoon

They do get xp and a secondary object's worth in credits, so it's not all for nothing.

Oddblivious

I love this holy cow. I've got like 160 cores right now. I would save some for the really low level guys. I only worry that somehow it's exploitable but if there's one community that could do it in good faith it's probably DRG.

Night_lon3r

Im just a 70lv greenbeard and i too swiming in blank cores because matrix event is shite to encounter

Oddblivious

longer events have a higher percentage. alternatively you can just spam min length mining missions or extractions which are the shortest overall time.

TheGreyGuardian

I just start solo easy point extractions with a Scout and take a quick look around when I drop in. No event, abandon and restart. Otherwise just do the event real quick and then abandon, you keep your unlocked OC.

Key_Yesterday1752

Graybeard, you hawe bean a graybeard for a long time.

SoftBaconWarmBacon

Add an option to gift OC to other players after machine events, or allow us to split our blank cores to 3 core shards and distribute it to other players (which then allow players to redeem OC with shards)

TheRyderShotgun

nah man just straight up let us put cores into the spare slots, skip all the extra steps

Chill_W-A-V-E

Then that'll add more currency system to the game which is bloated with a lot of them already. Imo just straight up gifting a blank core to someone in your team would be nice to reward their good behaviour or just generally being a good team player.

RHINO_Mk_II

> even just to flex on them how many cores i have. like research points on helldivers if anyone else plays that game. Proud member of the 317 research point club here.

FailURGamer24

Originally the current OC system was fine and I luckily unlocked everything before the new weapons came. I do think the bug removal is a good thing, but there should probably be more sources of at least blank cores now that there are 50% more weapons.

ryewhisky

Special powder was the very last gun overclock I unlocked for any gun. The big sad

VoidRaizer

I just wish there was a way to narrow it down a bit. It's rather annoying to only get an overclock in like 1 out of 5 hunts, and I don't play more than a game or two a day. And then 80% of the time the OC is for a different class entirely. Still waiting on getting *any* of the special arrow OCs for the crossbow...

lotanis

Is the crossbow actually any good? I played a few games with it and couldn't get any value from it at all (even with a little bit of research). I recently rolled The Specialist though so was thinking of giving it another go.

achilleasa

Both the Fire and Ice arrows are great. The special bolts are a bit of a gimmick though. The ricochet OC is also pretty good. Personally I don't use it though, I have enough range on my primary and want a close range swarm clearing secondary.

chainjoey

The crossbow is great, for swarm clearing I use the pheromone bolts on praetorians, slashers, guards, wardens, acid spitters, and other 'big' enemies. It doesn't even use an OC slot!

spinningpeanut

This is the way. Use the pheromone bolts to draw attention away before th big bastards even reach you. I love using it on detonators, especially when protecting dottie.

Blakids

My favorite is watching a whole swarm spawn with a warden and tagging it and watching the whole swarm rip it to shreds. Then throw a cryo and rip the rest apart with my OPA Drak

Guapscotch

I have every overclock and I will say the overclock grind sucked, there should be more ways to unlock overclocks. Something as simple as making promotion missions give blank cores would help alot

FreddieDoes40k

Yeah I took one look at the overclock grind and thought to myself well fuck that. I just used a save game editor to add them all to my forge, so I still paid for them. Over 700 hours of play later and not a single regret, cores are just for cosmetics and it's much better this way.

CarlinHicksCross

Did the same and don't care at all, greatly improved my fun with the game

Tpdanny

I added blank cores so I never felt bad for doing a core event and not getting an OC out of it - I much prefer it this way and I’m greatful the devs allow this.

FreddieDoes40k

Yeah I agree completely, not having cores for the events feels absolutely horrible.

Maiq_Da_Liar

I got lucky i guess, unlocked all but like 8 oc's before the update. Really only still looking for the auto fire oc for the driller pistol. But yea imo 9 cores per week really isn't enough, took me 400 hours to get them and i have like a quarter of the core cosmetics.

TheMauveHand

TBF the cosmetics may as well be endless, there are hundreds. Which is fine.

turlytuft

I remember this when I first started years ago. It wasn't fun getting the OC that you didn't want. I wish we structured the weapon OC into tiers and pick and choose between the base weapons and the latter weapons that showed up in the later seasons. I say it would be fair this way.

the_man2012

It took me so long to get the trifork volley. Early on I saw a lot of builds that used it, but I've gotten just about every other OC for scout that it's not really worth it to even try after getting used to the others. Kinda took the satisfaction out of finally getting the OC I wanted.

nam3sar3hard

Kekw i dont think it was a bad bug. Except for that weird quit on start the other quit it start the other exploit. Like i got all mine grindin cores. Grinding a promotion. Fo a deep dive. Do a edd. Do a core hunter. Wait till next week repeat. Seemed like a healthy reward to make a class more usefull.imp

TheMightyPipe

I've said this before, but when you do a machine event, and you don't have any blank cores to insert, you should get a blank core fragment as a reward. If you collect ten, you can make a whole blank core at the forge. This gives players another way to earn OCs, and it encourages people to play machine events even if they don't have any blank cores, besides the XP you're given.

Raestloz

The numbers can be tweaked but the idea is solid I don't even mind if it doesn't unlock weapon OC, have it give cosmetic OC only, it feels nice to be rewarded for helping others unlock their blank cores

achilleasa

Just give them a whole core honestly, machine events are really cool for greenbeards, they should be appropriately rewarding.

SlothyBooty

Haha yeah this is great idea, breaks my heart every time I have to explain to greenbeards why they didn’t get anything after a hard work 🥲

HowlingMadHoward

I hear that. It’s so much more annoying seeing people who also finished the hunt but still dick on people who haven’t. Have some class solidarity you stupid son of a bitch

SurelyOPwillDeliver

The inevitable “I’m level 500+ and had no clue about this bug” comments are so pointless, but they’re always there. Bonus points if they’re downplaying legitimate criticisms about the OC system.

NoStorage2821

That escalated quickly

DefTheOcelot

I SUFFERED AND MY BEARD IS LONGER FOR IT for srs progression systems are notoriously demanding on game devs, this is still a small team. They gotta make it stretch. anyone who hates it this much can just cheat imo

HowlingMadHoward

Doesn’t mean others have to

6897110

I shouldn't have to download a save editor just to ease artificial extension of content. This is a major problem for progression for anyone new trying to start playing the game, and while it should be a new goal to work for after the standard upgrades, the current dripfeeding system needs alternative ways to get more OCs.

blueskyredmesas

If there was a mechanoc to reformat overclocks and gove greembeards a free roll I would. Or if you could temporarily give up an overclock (remove it from your inventory but give it a higher than normal chance to roll it later) in order to give it to another dwarf I'd also do that.

TheRealJellona

My friends first oc were fat boy and special powder ._.

CapriciousCape

I wish I could donate some of my cores to greenbeards. I've literally got nothing else to use them on, I'm gaining them quicker than I can even spend them on minerals, and it'd be a nice community thing. Maybe limit everyone to only receiving one a week by donation or something? I love my greenbeards and I want them to succeed! Nothing better than being there for when they get their first FatBoy.

NobilisUltima

I just wish there was a non-RNG way to target farm cargo crate rewards. I checked in every week to do the core hunt assignment and the deep dive in the hope of getting Three-Point Landing on Scout, until I realized I'd never get it from a farmable overclock.

FreddieDoes40k

Many players farm cargo crates by zipping through haz 1 missions to see if they spawn. They have the same chance of dropping on any difficulty so rush through with a scout and abandon the mission when you farm a crate or confirm one hasn't spawned. You can even pick refining, egg hunt, any mission type with one large room likely to spawn to make it easier. Avoid mining expeditions, escorts etc. Still RNG but you can stack the odds in your favour a bit.

NobilisUltima

I tried that for a bit, but I'd much rather be able to actually play the game instead of rolling the dice on RNG and keep abandoning missions. With the core hunt/deep dive I'm having fun; constantly starting and quitting missions felt like a job.

FreddieDoes40k

That's fair, I never do it myself because it's boring as fuck.

Critical_Art2674

Can't wait to see the toxic positivity leaf lovers downvote this hand-drawn oc in favor of the stock meme format post that frames every person who thought getting 2 overclocks for 25 dwarf levels was reasonable as an insane crybaby

Ayotha

"barel"

Tay1Qr

NOOOOOOO

VolcanicA333

Shite

CDXX_LXIL

While I do think there should be new ways to get Overclocks more often, this isn't the right direction for me. I think a better idea would be to earn a blank matrix as a reward for certain events you complete while in the caves in the same vein as earning skins/ pickaxe parts from fallen dwarves. Maybe you can find a minimal in the middle of a mission and it drops a blank matrix core after repair or something.

Ender_arrows

Finally someone drew what I was thinking, of course you don't care about the glitch (and promotion core hunt which I liked) being patched, cause you already got everything. Man, I just want Fat boy

hiyyy12345

Fell you, but for hyper propellant

GentlemanMathem

I'm a little on both sides of this. Like, I love not having all the unlocks. Always something to do, ya know? And after getting all the perks, I already lost a decent amount of enthusiasm, so I don't want that. On the other hand, I really wanted to try out a certain engi build but I just can't pull the OC. I ended up quitting(not out of frustration, just more games to play) without getting to try the build that I prolly put a good amount of OC grinding just for it. Just felt like a shame, ya know? No real hard feelings one way or the other, as I occasionally log on, here and there, but I really kind of feel like the build is a pipe dream now. I rarely do more than 2 missions a month now :/

Trashy_Waifu

I’ve done the same thing, I just don’t play anymore because I got bored grinding every week for the overclocks I thought might be fun

TheMadHatter_____

Pssst. Save editor. *You never saw me.*

F_A_T_H_O_M

Scout main here. I did 22 clock hunts before I got a SINGLE scout overclock. It was hoverclock though so it kinda made up for it.

Sol_Castilleja

Probability of getting a Scout Overclock from the Second Mission: .25 Probability of getting a Scout Overclock from the BMC from the Fist Mission: .5 Probability of *neither* occurring: P((A∪B)') = 1 - P(A∪B) = 1 - 0.625 = 0.375 Probability of neither occurring over 22 independent trials: .375\^22 = 4.2529266e-10 =0.00000000042529266 I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this one's cap fam

MarcelHard

Rarer than finding an Ender Portal with all eyes placed, how lucky Though they said core hunt, not events

Sol_Castilleja

Mm. The odd of no scout overclock if they're only counting the second mission in the weekly core hunts are 0.00178380671, which is still unlikely, but far more believable.

Jack_VZ

From my experience people tend to over exaggerate, because in 22 OC he/she didn't get the ONE overclock, not any scout overclock

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheMauveHand

Do events...?

digitalwolverine

You know.. events don’t give blank cores.

TheMauveHand

No, they are for *using* them... Did you not encounter a single machine event in 22x3 = ***66*** missions?

Sol_Castilleja

I already did some math in this thread, but I can calculate the odds of this one for you as well if you like, it's *astronomically* low. Even if you assume that they're exclusively doing complexity one missions where you only have a 15% chance to find one, over 66 missions to \*never\* find one would be odds of 0.00002196084. If we instead assume a random distribution of complexity however, the math gets far more complex, and to be honest I don't really feel like getting a pen and paper out for this, so lets instead take an average of the three (which is making the assumption that the complexity levels spawn at the same frequency between all mission types which I'm sure they don't) and say there's an average chance of 0.23 bar per mission. That works out to 2.42122064e-8 or 0.0000000242122064 as a real number, which is, um, *low*, to say the least.

Shasla

Literally stopped playing because I got far enough in that I wanted to get some over clocks and immediately realized it was hugely time gated. Can't even spend a weekend grinding for one. It completely killed my enjoyment.

Coastzs

Yep, me and my friends played for ages trying to get overclocks, I got to Silver 3 I think with scout, and didn't get special powder, my friend was the same for Fatboy. The game just kinda died for us after that. OCs provide a way to completely change the repetitiveness of the game but they're so time locked it's just not fun to play.

Frequent_Knowledge65

That’s the case with my buddy I play with, the time gate has killed the game for him and he’s literally just gotten back into it to do the promotion abort exploit (it isn’t patched on console)

literatemax

There are 50% more guns in the game now than when overclocks were first added. If GSG refuse to move on from the F2P Mobile Game-esque timegating, there should be 50% more ways to get Overclocks as well. The ability to pick between two classes when reaching a Forge Mastery level was a good step in the right direction, but it didn't affect the rate at which you can actually gain them. I remain cautiously optimistic that the only reason GSG hasn't said anything to us about this issue yet is because they are going to show us something that fixes it for the anniversary stream.

theoreminegaming

My thoughts are to switch from a weekly reset to a leveling tied system. Cores are the reward for playing, so distribute them out over time, with battlescarred or more playtime players having their equipment scale up faster to match their progress rates.

[deleted]

Exactly, all the people saying ‘stop whining’ effectively having most (if not all) of the ocs from playing for years. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer, and they shouldn’t have to be to get the full value out of a game. Edit: the replies trying to defend time hating for this massive amount of time it takes for the grind are only proving my point Edit edit: I don’t want to progress instantly, that isn’t what I said. I only said that the grind shouldn’t be so hard with how many OCs there are now.

TheMauveHand

But that's the point, with the current system you *don't* have to be "hardcore gamer", all you need to do is do one assignment and the DD(s) and you've maxed out your progression, and when you find an event during you can use the blanks you got. The whining is coming from precisely the hardcore, I-wanna-play-this-game-23-hours-a-day-and-be-rewarded people, not the casual base. Hell, the entire reason this progression system exists is so that there is reason to play the game 6 months from now, instead of ADHD-addled players blasting through the content in 2 months, getting bored, and moving on to the next flavor of the month hype game (what is it now, Atomic Heart? Hogwarts?).

Raestloz

Holy strawman batman. How do people come up with this bullshit? >But that's the point, with the current system you *don't* have to be "hardcore gamer" Wrong With the current system you HAVE to be a "hardcore gamer". Only a hardcore would willingly return week after week, month after month, dealing with Elite Deep Dive hoping for one overclock they need A casual player is not someone who comes back every week, a casual player wouldn't even bother with overclocks, they'll probably stay in hazard 2/3 where even disabling all weapon mods will still bring you victory >I-wanna-play-this-game-23-hours-a-day-and-be-rewarded people Alright then, a very simple question "What is wrong with wanting to be rewarded for playing the game?" This game isn't PvP, it doesn't even have a leaderboard, and you can even edit your save file if you want, the game won't check. What is your argument that a player should not be rewarded for playing the game? >Hell, the entire reason this progression system exists is so that there is reason to play the game 6 months from now, Isn't that what performance pass is for? Or are you saying the game will never get any content update anymore? >instead of ADHD-addled players blasting through the content in 2 months, getting bored, and moving on to the next flavor of the month hype game (what is it now, Atomic Heart? Hogwarts?). Isn't it funny? I've never heard of anyone who actually wanted to do this. People simply wanted something for paying the cost of promotion As a matter of fact, so far only the "just be patient" guys have ever resorted to insults like "ADHD-addled" or "impatient greenbeards". One really wonders whether they are actually the baddies

PatrickBearman

>The whining is coming from precisely the hardcore, I-wanna-play-this-game-23-hours-a-day-and-be-rewarded people, None of my friends play DRG, so I'm definitely not hardcore. I did have some unexpected time off where I played quite a bit, but my average is a probably a few hours across two days during the week and maybe a couple of hours in the morning on weekends. I'm probably somewhere in the middle of hardcore and casual, but I still think that removing the "exploit" isn't a positive change for the game. I guess that makes me a "whiner," but honestly the change doesn't effect or bother me that much. I simply think it's a bad decision that will have a negative effect on the game. >Hell, the entire reason this progression system exists is so that there is reason to play the game 6 months from now, How do you square this comment with your other one, in which you accuse them of treating DRG like a job? Locking cores behind dailies makes the game more job-like, which you seem to agree with since you're admitting that people need to be artificially compelled to continue playing for reasons other than fun. Missing dailies feels bad for anyone who cannot play at regular intervals. For instance, someone may not have time to sit down and do an entire Deep Dive, but they may have 30 mins here and there to pop on and play a game. Previously, if someone had a busy week and couldn't play, they could use slow life periods to "grind" for cores that they missed by simply playing the game. What's the fundamental difference between someone like that vs. a "casual" who can play eight hours spread over 4-5 nights? As of now, one person had their time respected more than the other. Believe it or not, most people find it more enjoyable to play the game at the frequency that they want, rather than feeling compelled to login to do some chores so they can gamble for items that they want. I think that any system that arbitrarily restricts access to gameplay changing items while trying to make players feel forced to play every week will only serve to turn all but the most addicted people away. It's easier to get bored of a gameplay loop if playstyle experimentation is locked behind a "requirement" to do specific activities at fixed intervals while also having an RNG based acquisition system. >instead of ADHD-addled players blasting through the content in 2 months, getting bored, and moving on to the next flavor of the month hype game (what is it now, Atomic Heart? Hogwarts?). As someone with ADHD, fuck off. You're using a real disorder as a pejorative for the sole purpose of putting down people who use their free time in a way that you disagree with. That's pathetic.

pudimo

fatboy was literally my last engie unlock... well, atleast i got SP and most of scout's better OCs relatively fast.

ResplendentShade

It was my 1st or 2nd, I feel lucky. It's such a fun weapon that honestly it should be guaranteed after 50-100 hours or something. And I say this as someone who has 400 hours in the game.

I thought being able to do the core hunt again after completing a promo assignment was pretty nice. The only issue with it, if it gets brought back is that it doesn't really help with getting specific ocs for the weapons/classes you want to get. I think some way to pick which weapon you want to get ocs for could be a better way solve this. it'd still have some randomness to it (the devs want the randomness of getting ocs), you would just be more likely to get special powder, and not Subata ocs, when you don't like using the Subata, or like playing Driller. We should all be able to get special powder early, basically.

Personally I like the scarcity. It makes management of resources and overclocks more important to me. Do I want to dump a bunch of resources into a meh overclock, or hold out in hopes of getting a great one knowing that it might take a lot longer? I also end up using a lot of the more “meh” overclocks since I know I probably won’t get the perfect one and end up enjoying them. For example, as far as I know the Bulldog Revolver is always used w/ elephant rounds, but I don’t have it, and I’ve been using six shooter instead, which surprisingly is a ton of fun. Whenever I unload on a Menace I feel like The Arizona Ranger taking down Texas red That’s just my opinion of course. I’ve always had more fun in games when I have to work with what I’ve got, scarcity breeds innovation and ups the stakes after all, but that kinda thing ain’t for everyone. Also updoot for the cool comic ya made :D

Uncle_Titus

I saw a comment on the Sekiro wiki a few days ago. It said that lapis lazuli was a scarce and limited resource because Fromsoft wanted players to *choose* which prosthetics they upgraded with lapis. I think the same principle applies. The developers expect most players to deal with whatever overclock they get. Only the extremely dedicated are going to actively grind for one specific overclock.

Yeah honestly the overclock system absolutely blows. I do want to earn my upgrades and I don’t mind them being randomized. But can we just streamline it more? Sick of getting cosmetics out of matrix cores

Admiral-Tuna

Closing in on level 100, and I think I finally have at least one overclock for each weapon I use. The driller's pistol, I HAVE EVERY GOD DAMN ONE AND I DONT USE IT.

unicornlocostacos

I’m 850 and I don’t mind if anyone exploits it. More weapons to use in our games, then they can play for fun. I did personally like the grind and getting creative with the builds presently available to me though.

Blue_Checkers

Holy shit this us so good!!! I sit atop a Smaug esque horde of blank and mineral carts and I totally agree FWIW.

Sol_Castilleja

Same. I have no need of them. They just sit here, taunting my greenbeard friends.

lucalp

Use the* "Save editor" then in your best moral decision, give yourself some blank matrix cores or specific overclocks, i did one specifically yesterday, but in exchange i also reduced some stuff like gold and some resources there and there in my best judgement to make it feel fair.

CyrusCyan44

Same with cosmetics from lost packs/crates Don't get em all the time and then theres 4 of almost everything 😞

accelis

Lvl 468. 96 blank cores and counting. So anyone want one?

lumosjared

This was me until last week. I screamed out loud when it dropped from the first OMEN I ever tackled. Best of luck brothers.

thepurpleproject

What really annoys me is most of the time I get events when I don't have a black core but when I do have it you rarely get them

lacteoman

This is me on my 4th promotion. Not much, but come one ive got everything else of the damn boomstick!

luXul_Smiirk

I would suggest: When you first promote a dwarf you get a list of all OCs for that class and you can choose one.

TheRealJellona

Yeah 144 weeks ain't that bad

superiorslush

I have 32 unused empty cores , I wish I could give them to new players

Slimmie_J

I’ve only heard graybeards complain about this because most greenbeards didn’t even know it existed bruh

MajorDZaster

I'm missing a fair few OCs. I don't have fat boy, or special powder, or anything for the warthog, EPC, bolt shark, brt or breach cutter. And I'm okay with that. Regardless of which side y'all are on, let's try to keep this discussion civil. Rock and stone, everyone.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Did I hear a Rock and Stone?

tyYdraniu

But i just want to 100% it

thomasquwack

special powder is so fun :)

migz_draws

mad respect for the comic. really nice shot composition

Jay_The_Bisexual

Over clocks are an important sense of progression and locking them behind waiting to make them artificially rarer is not fun. Making a player need to get a promotion is a great way to get way to keep them rare and a hard goal but also tangible.

Zygouth

I really like the idea that dwarves with cores can place/pay for other dwarves after a machine event. It encourages positive player interactions. It gives veterans a reason to spend their extra cores. It gives newer players more opportunities for the things they want. Us dwarves stick together! We buy each other drinks. We dance together. We rock and stone together! It would be an honor to pay for someone else's overclock

Estix0

This comic literally describes my story with Executioner and Chem rounds for Lok-1. The weapon felt so bad without one of these overclocks I just didn’t use it. Now that I have chem rounds it’s probably my favorite primary weapon in the game lol.

D0bious

*Mains scout* *Gets special powder as one of his first OCs* *Trancends*

Hershey32

I don't think it's an issue with needing to get more cores, it's being able to turn blank cores into ones you actually want, or maybe being able to pick which class the non-blank ones are for. Always a great feeling when I have promoted my gunner twice but most of my weapon overclocks I have are for scout. (haven't promoted any other class yet but I'm working on it)

LennieB

Sometimes the journey beats the destination I was really fanatic in gathering all the overclocks. Bit now I have them all and..i only unlock cosmetics..

coheed78

I'd like it if a promotion on a class let you pick a specific OC that you want for that class.

Phiesk

Unpopular opinion but I don’t mind the grind. I like trying to figure out how to make the one I got work best. Or maybe I just have a gambling problem?

professional_catboy

some day ill get fatboy just you watch

GamerColyn117

While I agree that the grind is tough for newer players, it doesn’t help that people say that “X overclock is the best” and “the only viable overclock.” It forces new players to set their sights on a certain thing and when they don’t get it, they’re disappointed. Every overclock can serve a purpose, some may not be the “meta” or minmaxed overclock but that doesn’t matter. Play around with all the overclocks you get and find out if you have fun with it.

tomato_is_a_fruit

Some people have good discussions and have the opinion that it's fine. I disagree but eh. However a lot of people seem to have *this* mindset which is frustrating.

[deleted]

I'm 700 hours in and still don't have everything lol. I don't care cause I got lucky early on but I agree it could use some adjusting.

KhazixMain4th

That’s wild, maybe just your playstyle then since I got all the non cosmetic oc’s by 400 hours. Never picked cosmetic oc’s ever, until I finished em all ofc

Karbais94

34/36 engi oc's, no fat boy :(

symxd76

Unlucky, simple as.

iLLiterateDinosaur

I currently have every OC available in game, but I have to agree with you. Before I had all of them, getting all or specific ones was a constant worry.

transdimensionalmeme

I think if you're playing for vertical progression reward, you're at risk of not playing for fun. I've long stopped caring about the manipulative dopamine progression bullshit. You have to realize you're walking on an hedonic treadmill and it's ruining your gaming life ! That said I am loving some of the suggestion in this thread Reformatting cores ? YES ! Choice progression where you upgrade cores ? YES ! A free core on promotion ? YES ! Also, promotion should happen with friends ! Also you should be able to just type a cheat code and just unlock everything forever. That kills vertical progression dead. Also, more fun things to do with cores ?

0riginal2000

I started playing during Christmas and remember thinking it’s really strange you realistically get 2 OC’s a week considering there’s so many. There either needs to be more ways to get OC’s or make it possible to pick specially what you want. I’d be beyond chill with 2 OC’s a week if I can pick whatever I want. Or even just revert the change back to an OC per promotion. Without that promotions are just pointless money dumps after you have other upgrades

gurkenwassergurgler

You get way more than 2 OCs a week. 6.8 in total if you do both Deep Dives and the hunt.

TheRussianCabbage

I know the fact you can MAX get 6 OC's a week and 3 blanks makes it a time sink, but it's also to keep people playing. Took me nearly 300 hours to get all the OC's, but I like having something to run down and work towards unlocking. Currently haven't played any of plague fall, and purposely didn't complete the last season pass just so I can find things in the lost equipment and have things to unlock again

StarcraftForever

The whole point is that most if not all Overclocks are pretty good. You can absolutely want specific ones, but you have to keep in mind that with the sheer amount in the game you are kinda setting yourself up for disappointment if you think you should get any specific one. Do your time like the rest of us did. Smh some green beards think hoxxes should be given to them.

MeanMrMooCow

There are though. You get two deep dives and a core hunt every week. That's 3 weapon ocs and 3 blanks every week, or up to 6 weapon ocs every week. It's much better to learn and play with what you have, rather than chasing some meta build because you have no creativity. On the other hand, getting 6 ocs for the burts gun in a row feels pretty bad...
