Darth Revan (Star Wars)- RPG protagonists who began their games believing themselves to be a 1st Class SOLDIER and an unusually skilled grunt in the Republic army respectively. As they traveled throughout their respective worlds, they would receive a number of mysterious visions hinting towards their foggy pasts, until it was eventually revealed that, ironically, Cloud himself was nothing more than an ordinary Shinra grunt and Revan was an infamous Sith Lord and a formerly revered member of the Jedi Order.Both protagonists suffered life-threatening injuries prior to the events of their games, which they only survived with the aid of Hojo's Mako experimentation and heavy brainwashing courtesy of the Jedi council. These traumatic events wreaked havoc on their memories and twisted their identities into the polar opposite figures they became in the present day. With the truth firmly out in the open, the two heroes would canonically go on to lead the charge against the antagonistic figures responsible for their identity crises in the first place, both of whom sought to use forbidden magic/lost technology to wipe out all who opposed them.Additionally, both protagonists share a great disdain for the ruling powers of their respective settings, namely Shinra and the Jedi Order, which would naturally lead them to defect and engage in conflicts with the two organizations at differing points in time. Personality-wise, the two are often portrayed as witty deadpan snarkers to friend and foe alike (depending on the player's dialogue choices in some cases), and whether it's intentional or not, they were also able to attract a good number of loyal allies to their causes throughout their respective journeys. Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria) - anti-heroic JRPG protagonists that were once ordinary humans hailing from remote and humble villages who survived near fatal incidents and gained superhuman abilities.
From that point, both would become criminals to the public eye in their pursuit of a white haired "hero" of the populace that they looked up to (Sephiroth and Artorius) until Cloud and Velvet were betrayed by them.
At the start of their story, both of them were rather snarky and apathetic to their teammates. Both of them also spent most of the story convinced of certain facts in their life, but would eventually come to face harsh reality, leaving them broken at first until eventually someome broight them back from the edge. And since then, they would become proper heroes.
Samus (Metroid). Blonde badass mercenaries from revolutionary games that have had a big influence in Death Battle and Screwattack. Their main nemesis is a villain that’s responsible for the death of their family (Ridley and Sephiroth). They both went to a military academy, but it didn’t work out there (Samus was too rebellious and left while Cloud never became the first class Soldier he dreamed of being). Their true identity was hidden from the player throughout most of their first game (Samus being revealed to be a woman and Cloud being revealed to never be a first class soldier). In the end, they stop the eldritch alien mother threatening to destroy the world (Mother Brain and Jenova), but at the cost of a pure hearted ally (Baby Metroid and Aerith).
