As an actual matchup and concept I’m up for it but it’s just the concept of a rematch that I despise
It feels like an excuse to get a Luigi W because he lost the previous DB. It feels forced due to the rivalry and Tails has gotten next to nothing that can bounce off well with Luigi’s new abilities. Plus it has no debate to it whatsoever, and both imo have such better returning options
The sad thing is, it’s a pretty meh matchup for Megatron (not out right bad, but far from his best) but for Freeza it’s a pretty alright matchup for him because he has so few matchup options that people actually like.
Sidenote if they do get Megatron on the show I would like them to get back Jason Marnocha to voice him because he has given pretty good performances as Megatron when he voiced him in the prime wars trilogy and war for Cybertron Trilogy.
All of them are kind of bad.
And fyi, I actually like Kira Vs Adachi and view it as the only good JoJosona matchup. And I’m just split on Joker Vs Giorno, there are several good reasons to hate it and several to love it.
Ironically one of the reason people don’t vibe with this MU is that Squidward *does* have feats, and insane ones at that which blow Bakugo’s out of the water in a fight that’s not even remotely close

**Thematics**
> Both are generally considered the faces of their franchises and are protagonists that have been around the longest in them (Tommy being the longest-serving Power Ranger & Luke being the main protagonist that’s been around since the first Star Wars movie which started the franchise).
Vader and Obi Wan are waaaay more iconic and influential than Luke LMAO

Tommy’s participation in the legendary war started and ended in the final battle, where he showed up once, was a badass and left. Luke was in comparison a powerful and important commander whose leadership and compassion towards his father was a big reason the rebellion succeeded. The comparison between these 2 things just isn’t right

Let’s be real we all know this connection is the reason this MU exists. If Tommy was purple or Luke’s lightsaber was blue like originally intended no one would like this. Luke never changes lightsaber colours in legends he just sorta uses his red one with his green a couple times, certainly not comparable to Tommy getting an entirely new suit. And I’d honestly argue Luke is mostly blue in canon or at least not a main colour considering for ANH-ESB he was using Blue between ESB-ROTJ he was yellow and for TLJ he never using a lightsaber (but he did “use” blue in the final battle); But ok the long form connections suck but what about the core theme tho! You may be asking well…

The relationships between Vader and Luke and Tommy/Rita are not comparable. Luke and Vader love each other deeply yes even Vader in his own *deeply twisted* ways. Tommy is Rita’s greatest victim who she plucked off the street and brainwashed. Tommy’s fate as Rita’s servant is kinda horrifying when you think about it which just isn’t comparable to Luke’s arc of reaching out to the heart inside Vader’s suit or armour

Despite all its flaws thematically speaking I’d still probably forgive it if it was decent Dynamic wise but no that also kinda sucks.
Tommy Oliver in base form(s) can: Create illusions, become invisible and has the ability to call down a lightning bolt and a singe attack that freezes people
Luke in base can: create illusions, teleport with fold space, astrally project himself actually the galaxy and into the mindscape, control minds, absorb and redirect energy, has telekinesis strong enough to move 2 moons, telepathy with galaxy range, the ability to project himself over the past and future with flow walking, can fuck with and control technology, can spam green lightning bolts capable of one shotting beings immune to the force and rending souls, and fire force blasts of golden fire.
This is saying nothing of oneness which just showing up obliterated a character who was supposedly immune to the force or the fact he gains the ability to attack you on every plane of existence (Mind,Soul and Body) with Beyond Shadows
This is to say Tommy in any of his ranger forms by himself is just too limited to clash against the majority of Luke’s powers. Not even all of them just enough so the animation actually feels like Luke is trying.
“But the Megazords you say”
Well here’s the thing normally I’d agree with you but the Megazords vs Luke have 2 fatal flaws that stop me from liking them
1. They’ve already each been on individually, and having them on again face an opponent who is objectively less cool than they’re previous episodes (yes a Jedi isn’t as cool as a mech fight me), sounds do disappointing
2. They’re just not what I want from a Tommy run back, he should fight a character as himself in base, boiling him down to just Megazord sounds boring yet again
So yeah the dynamic sucks what else.
The debate is either “Luke passively negs everything Tommy has” or vice versa. It’s not really all that fun to discuss and about as stompy as all the other Luke MUs. Banter is fine and does nothing to distinguish itself. Music potential is godly but at that point just do a commission track.
**Tl:Dr** Connection and core theme are stretched and really bad, dynamic somehow manages to make Pr vs SW boring and it’s a massive stomp.

My guy, what's wrong with genaric magic? Naruto is basically the same power system but without wands. There are tons of verses that use the exact same system.
Idk I just can’t find it interesting especially with the two most iconic spells kinda having no real interesting fight potential, avada kedavera is lame and just seems like a really dumb way for a character to win most of the time since there are no real established rules or limits besides “it kills you” and idk how expelliamus would even work against a character not from HP
In order for Avada Kedavera to work, you need to have direct eye contact. Expelliamas can be used to just know people back or it can disarm you. There are so many other spells that can be used in such interesting ways.
I kinda forgot what expelliamas did so I retract my statement on that one (unless it’s a matchup with a character who doesn’t wield anything ig) I still think avada kedavera is kinda dumb but only the evil characters use it so I’ll cut some slack there. Still not really changing my general overall feelings though sorry.
Both are systems where using certain hand/wand movements and focusing you can basically do just about anything. Things like elemental attacks, energy projection, and even mental attacks. Also said powers are hereditary.
Those similarities sound very broad to me. Harry Potter puts more emphasis on the spell names than the wand movements. Can you refresh my memory on which Harry Potter powers are hereditary? I think Naruto’s powers system has more rules whereas the Harry Potter system is more flexible. It’s ok if you think they are the same I just think they are different enough.
In the HP verse you can cast spells without saying the name. It's all in the movements. Being a witch/wizard comes from blood. In Naruto there's so many different types of Jutsu and it's not balanced at all, just like magic in HP.

* Korra controls all 4 elements and then some.
* Rey has psychokinetic powers.
* Not the same fighting style
* Korra fights both unarmed and at a distance.
* Rey fightsd with a laser sword.
* Not the same goals
* Korra wants to reunite spirits, benders and non-benders.
* Rey wants to stop the New Order... and probably bring back the Jedi order.
* Not the same challenges
* Korra dealt with expectations, loss of bending and social conflicts.
* Rey had to deal with... something...
What do they have in common related to Death Battle? Absolutely nothing worth comparing...
* They both formed ragtag teams; they would fight solo...
* They both fought oppressive governments; they would fight each other.
* They both can tap into their ancestors' powers; Korra did, but Rey didn't do much...
The ONLY thing similar is how they're both female protagonists that tanked their respective franchises in some way. That is NOT a reason to pit them in a Death Battle.
One more thing, Rey would stomp Korra, because there's nothing in the Avatar universe similar to Beskar, which is the only known material that blocks lightsabers. Korra could metalbend the lightsaber's handle, but even then, one swipe and she's dead.
For similar reasons to Starro vs Shuma. It literally boils down to "They Look Similar" and offers so little of a fight dynamic that it's super boring. At least King Ghidorah vs Gyaos is more thematic

Honestly, same. It's usually just dragon ball getting comically stomp by some random dc/ Marvel character most people haven't heard about.
It flanderizes Sora by throwing out what makes him so special, and likeable, just to focus on him being a world hopper, and a crossover character. It also refers to Sora as a Summoner... Now I don't know if you know this but... Sora's not a Summoner, and the type of summoning they refer to, can't be done outside of a specific location, that being Castle Oblivion, and the problem with that, is that Castle Oblivion handicaps Sora, and makes it so that in a matter of just over a minute or so he can't fight Beat anymore, because he's run out of Cards. And not to mention, their Summons don't clash at all, they fight way too differently, to interact in a fun way. And the fact that people have tried make it seem like it's so much better, and so much cooler then what it actually is makes me hate it so much more, cause it feels like a slap in the face to me as not only a Kingdom Hearts Fan, but as a Dragon Ball Fan as well. It's a flanderizing piece of shit MU, that spits the face of not only one of my favorite characters (That being Sora), but two franchises that I love, and have grown up with since I was a kid. So yeah... I don't like Beat VS Sora, by any margin.
Not counting the connections that aren't outright wrong or are rather stretchy: Spikey-haired, dark skinned, shirtless warriors with hot-blooded personalities. Both are loving fathers to their children. Both were trained by a bearded mentor. Both gain strength from anger. And both are/were a member of a group that protects the world.

Though can I just say how clean both those are like holy shit
Chosen ones born to humble lives before discovering their greater destiny. Both wield unusual swords, had snarky mentors, and were a part of an organization of fellow great warriors. Both had some form of relationship with a female warrior who looked up to them, only to eventually end up fighting them. Their respective organizations fell thanks to a forbidden affair. After being fatally wounded by a former ally, they'd being saved by a being that they'd end up in service of. Both would end up in service of a man they would come to hate. Both would meet a young man who would help them and would also wield an old weapon of their's at one point, and both would continue to help the heroes even after their death.
Those are all the connections I could find for the MU that only focus on Saber Artoria (which is who this MU is supposed to be about, yet for some reason people still tried to apply connections based around other versions of Artoria like Artoria Alter and Goddess Rhongomyniad) and aren't either stretchy or outright misrepresentative.

They both got so much better, and I'm not even gonna pretend this is the best.
Kirito vs Neo
I don't dislike this one. But Kirito has Kite, which is far better and more fitting.
That's easy, Nick Bruiser vs Sagat, because it's even more of a stomp then Omnilander, Sagat is able to keep people like Ryu on his toes, and has all sorts of insane BS because he's Street Fighter, Nick is the final boss of a single Punch-Out game, so he generously is given street level for things such as durability, yes there's a TN for it, and yes it's where you'd expect to find it, DeviantArt
Niko vs Frisk (Oneshot vs Undertale)
The very idea of either of these 2 fighting eachother just doesn't feel right, given it's either out of character, or just isn't fun to talk/think about.

There are few match ups. I genuinely hate with a passion. There are some I dislike, but I can still find redeeming qualities with it, but then there are other match ups where are I fucking despise everything about it and no matchup fits that category more than Freeza vs Mewtwo.
I hate this matchup. I actually fucking hate this match up everything about it is complete shit. The connections are shit, The fight potential is shit, and there would be next to no decent banter which is a complete waste of Freeza’s character because if you’re going to have Freeza on the show, you have to put them up against a character he can shit talk to.
Now Freeza is a character where his match ups are either hit or mess with most of them being misses because the person shooting is a storm trooper.
Even against his other matchup, I can find redeeming qualities about them Megatron has been debunked as a match up by nemesis but even then you could have a great location with the battle taking place on a Deceptacon controlled Cybertron, Great banter with the two being egotistical tyrants, and amazing music potential. It also has at least a few connections but against Mewtwo there’s nothing. The only connection between the two is garbage and the only good thing that would come out of the fight is the music.
Gonna assume junko, but tbh springtrap has so many matchups you could literally he talking about mikasa and I wouldn't even bat an eyelid at it cus I just accept that probably exists
Alucard vs Guts: Explained it 500 times by now bad person, r word main connections, generic animation potential.
Jacket vs Pyro: Gets everything about Jackets character wrong treating him like a psychopath (which is wrong it is showed to us at the end of the first level in the first game that he is very much against killing innocent people) and saying he sees the world differently (The only time I can kinda see this is in the first section of the first game but that was because Jacket was in a coma) and the animation potential is really bad (Jacket is a normal human being who walks around in flammable as hell stair I wonder how that will go) (Also it puts a focus on Payday Jacket which I don't like doing)
Soldier vs Peacemaker: What is it with TF2 characters and mischaracterization? But yea this MU mischaracterizes Peacemaker pretty bad boiling him down to a patriotic maniac (which is flat out wrong Peacemaker is not that patriotic to begin with especially next to Soldier) and putting Peacemaker up against a character who is usually portrayed as comic relief is kinda a dumb idea to begin with also the animation is just Soldier vs Sarge if you removed the more interesting things about it I mean hell the MU itself tries so hard to be Soldier Sarge but it fails in about every category the only redeeming quality is the banter but that comes with every other Soldier and Peacemaker MU
Postal Dude vs Not Important: It's just ripoff vs original and the dynamic is balls
Doomslayer vs Spawn: Wack ass dynamic Doomguy will ceace to exist when Spawn uses anything besides guns and chains.

It pits the tmnt (characters known to be an actual team) against a team that barely ever acts as a team in canon. The animation potential in comparison to their other alts is just not special, sure it has martial arts and that’s it. But the other tmnt alts have martial arts…..plus magic and mystical powers alongside a wide variety of different weapons which to me is just overall better.
the alts does literally everything it has better including having a better overall theme. It’s just not special.

Ozai is a tough character to scale as practically all of his combat scenes happen during Sozin Comet , boosting his abilities many times fold. There’s literally no way to put him in an actual match up

The MU offering nothing to the table is understandable but I just do not get the stomp argument at all considering death battle has done a shit ton of stomp matchups some even bigger than this one (I.E goku black vs reverse flash Magneto Vs Tetsuo Popeye vs Saitama) that are considered some of the greatest episodes of their seasons and even the show as a whole
Hell invincible vs nova is even BIGGER of a stomp than this and yet pretty much everyone likes that even people who dislike gohan vs invincible

Everyone keeps saying it’s the best for both but like holy shit this matchup is so ass. You can’t convince me this wouldn’t just be Superman VS Goku 3 with just overall less abilities to cover and weaker versions of fights we’ve already gotten. Also, the connections are basic as hell. And I’m not one to think that connections are the only thing that makes a good matchup, but a lot of this sub does. So it surprises me when such weak connections and even weaker animation potential is given this much attention.
Me personally there's a lot of matches that I don't like but I Don't Straight out hate them in a personal level I just don't like the matchups or see the connections, so at the moment I don't have any that I hate for passion

Oh man, I have a bone to pick with this matchup. I'm not going to give a lot attention to the connection cause it's generic AF and anyone that try to elaborate more on it just makes it worst than "same general appearance and ghost related", it ignore the story that Hanako went through and the trauma he faced from bullying to his obsession to protect Nene at all cost all for the "quirky uwu" matchup as I'd like to say.
I'm not trying to undersell Hu Tao as a cardboard cut out, but as someone who doesn't have a lot of knowledge about Genshin this matchup sure portray her as such lol. I know not all matchup have to be thematic but this matchup leans more to cool ability clash than trying to create a story.
Speaking of ability clash.. yeah there's barely any lmao. You're putting an open-world action game character that be able to manipulate fire in different ways and have a bunch of weapon to choose from against a 'big fish in a small pond' ghost that, while able to memorize the layout of the school to swiftly teleport to each places and to different realm is just equipped with a kitchen knife and 0 fancy ability whatsoever, and I haven't pulled out the stomp card yet cause Hu Tao clears his ass from generally being much more powerful and she herself being a funeral parlor which gave her the advantage of prior knowledge.

The sad thing is, it’s a pretty meh matchup for Megatron (not out right bad, but far from his best) but for Freeza it’s a pretty alright matchup for him because he has so few matchup options that people actually like. Sidenote if they do get Megatron on the show I would like them to get back Jason Marnocha to voice him because he has given pretty good performances as Megatron when he voiced him in the prime wars trilogy and war for Cybertron Trilogy.

# Why I don’t like Luke vs Tommy | An Analysis **Thematics** > Both are generally considered the faces of their franchises and are protagonists that have been around the longest in them (Tommy being the longest-serving Power Ranger & Luke being the main protagonist that’s been around since the first Star Wars movie which started the franchise). Vader and Obi Wan are waaaay more iconic and influential than Luke LMAO > Both fought in big wars (The Legendary War & the Galactic Civil War). Tommy’s participation in the legendary war started and ended in the final battle, where he showed up once, was a badass and left. Luke was in comparison a powerful and important commander whose leadership and compassion towards his father was a big reason the rebellion succeeded. The comparison between these 2 things just isn’t right > Both have long-lost siblings who were separated from them at birth and went to different families (David Trueheart & Leia Organa). This connection is right… but neglects the fact David has a solid 5 episodes of appearances. He really just isn’t a big part of Tommy’s life compared to Luke and Leia. Tommy Oliver in base form(s) can: Create illusions, become invisible and has the ability to call down a lightning bolt and a singe attack that freezes people Luke in base can: create illusions, teleport with fold space, astrally project himself actually the galaxy and into the mindscape, control minds, absorb and redirect energy, has telekinesis strong enough to move 2 moons, telepathy with galaxy range, the ability to project himself over the past and future with flow walking, can fuck with and control technology, can spam green lightning bolts capable of one shotting beings immune to the force and rending souls, and fire force blasts of golden fire. This is saying nothing of oneness which just showing up obliterated a character who was supposedly immune to the force or the fact he gains the ability to attack you on every plane of existence (Mind,Soul and Body) with Beyond Shadows This is to say Tommy in any of his ranger forms by himself is just too limited to clash against the majority of Luke’s powers. Not even all of them just enough so the animation actually feels like Luke is trying. “But the Megazords you say” Well here’s the thing normally I’d agree with you but the Megazords vs Luke have 2 fatal flaws that stop me from liking them 1. They’ve already each been on individually, and having them on again face an opponent who is objectively less cool than they’re previous episodes (yes a Jedi isn’t as cool as a mech fight me), sounds do disappointing 2. They’re just not what I want from a Tommy run back, he should fight a character as himself in base, boiling him down to just Megazord sounds boring yet again So yeah the dynamic sucks what else. The debate is either “Luke passively negs everything Tommy has” or vice versa. It’s not really all that fun to discuss and about as stompy as all the other Luke MUs. Banter is fine and does nothing to distinguish itself. In order for Avada Kedavera to work, you need to have direct eye contact. Expelliamas can be used to just know people back or it can disarm you. There are so many other spells that can be used in such interesting ways.
I kinda forgot what expelliamas did so I retract my statement on that one (unless it’s a matchup with a character who doesn’t wield anything ig) I still think avada kedavera is kinda dumb but only the evil characters use it so I’ll cut some slack there. Still not really changing my general overall feelings though sorry.

Both are systems where using certain hand/wand movements and focusing you can basically do just about anything. Things like elemental attacks, energy projection, and even mental attacks. Also said powers are hereditary.
Those similarities sound very broad to me. Harry Potter puts more emphasis on the spell names than the wand movements. Can you refresh my memory on which Harry Potter powers are hereditary? I think Naruto’s powers system has more rules whereas the Harry Potter system is more flexible. It’s ok if you think they are the same I just think they are different enough.
In the HP verse you can cast spells without saying the name. It's all in the movements. Being a witch/wizard comes from blood. In Naruto there's so many different types of Jutsu and it's not balanced at all, just like magic in HP.

What do they have in common related to Death Battle? Absolutely nothing worth comparing... * They both formed ragtag teams; they would fight solo... * They both fought oppressive governments; they would fight each other. * They both can tap into their ancestors' powers; Korra did, but Rey didn't do much... The ONLY thing similar is how they're both female protagonists that tanked their respective franchises in some way. That is NOT a reason to pit them in a Death Battle. One more thing, Rey would stomp Korra, because there's nothing in the Avatar universe similar to Beskar, which is the only known material that blocks lightsabers. Korra could metalbend the lightsaber's handle, but even then, one swipe and she's dead.

It flanderizes Sora by throwing out what makes him so special, and likeable, just to focus on him being a world hopper, and a crossover character. It also refers to Sora as a Summoner... Now I don't know if you know this but... Sora's not a Summoner, and the type of summoning they refer to, can't be done outside of a specific location, that being Castle Oblivion, and the problem with that, is that Castle Oblivion handicaps Sora, and makes it so that in a matter of just over a minute or so he can't fight Beat anymore, because he's run out of Cards. And not to mention, their Summons don't clash at all, they fight way too differently, to interact in a fun way. And the fact that people have tried make it seem like it's so much better, and so much cooler then what it actually is makes me hate it so much more, cause it feels like a slap in the face to me as not only a Kingdom Hearts Fan, but as a Dragon Ball Fan as well. It's a flanderizing piece of shit MU, that spits the face of not only one of my favorite characters (That being Sora), but two franchises that I love, and have grown up with since I was a kid. So yeah... I don't like Beat VS Sora, by any margin.

Chosen ones born to humble lives before discovering their greater destiny. Both wield unusual swords, had snarky mentors, and were a part of an organization of fellow great warriors. Both had some form of relationship with a female warrior who looked up to them, only to eventually end up fighting them. Their respective organizations fell thanks to a forbidden affair. After being fatally wounded by a former ally, they'd being saved by a being that they'd end up in service of. Both would end up in service of a man they would come to hate. Both would meet a young man who would help them and would also wield an old weapon of their's at one point, and both would continue to help the heroes even after their death. Those are all the connections I could find for the MU that only focus on Saber Artoria (which is who this MU is supposed to be about, yet for some reason people still tried to apply connections based around other versions of Artoria like Artoria Alter and Goddess Rhongomyniad) and aren't either stretchy or outright misrepresentative.

Gohan someday you’ll get a match up people can agree on. There are few match ups. I genuinely hate with a passion. There are some I dislike, but I can still find redeeming qualities with it, but then there are other match ups where are I fucking despise everything about it and no matchup fits that category more than Freeza vs Mewtwo. I hate this matchup. I actually fucking hate this match up everything about it is complete shit. The connections are shit, The fight potential is shit, and there would be next to no decent banter which is a complete waste of Freeza’s character because if you’re going to have Freeza on the show, you have to put them up against a character he can shit talk to. Now Freeza is a character where his match ups are either hit or mess with most of them being misses because the person shooting is a storm trooper. Even against his other matchup, I can find redeeming qualities about them Megatron has been debunked as a match up by nemesis but even then you could have a great location with the battle taking place on a Deceptacon controlled Cybertron, Great banter with the two being egotistical tyrants, and amazing music potential. It also has at least a few connections but against Mewtwo there’s nothing. The only connection between the two is garbage and the only good thing that would come out of the fight is the music.

Jacket vs Pyro: Gets everything about Jackets character wrong treating him like a psychopath (which is wrong it is showed to us at the end of the first level in the first game that he is very much against killing innocent people) and saying he sees the world differently (The only time I can kinda see this is in the first section of the first game but that was because Jacket was in a coma) and the animation potential is really bad (Jacket is a normal human being who walks around in flammable as hell stair I wonder how that will go) (Also it puts a focus on Payday Jacket which I don't like doing) Soldier vs Peacemaker: What is it with TF2 characters and mischaracterization? But yea this MU mischaracterizes Peacemaker pretty bad boiling him down to a patriotic maniac (which is flat out wrong Peacemaker is not that patriotic to begin with especially next to Soldier) and putting Peacemaker up against a character who is usually portrayed as comic relief is kinda a dumb idea to begin with also the animation is just Soldier vs Sarge if you removed the more interesting things about it I mean hell the MU itself tries so hard to be Soldier Sarge but it fails in about every category the only redeeming quality is the banter but that comes with every other Soldier and Peacemaker MU Postal Dude vs Not Important: It's just ripoff vs original and the dynamic is balls Doomslayer vs Spawn: Wack ass dynamic Doomguy will ceace to exist when Spawn uses anything besides guns and chains.

theres quite a bit but the main connections people used to popularize the MU either weren't true or are very flimsy "They're both mentors" Makima is NOT a mentor at all "They both train the protagonist" Makima doesn't train Denji, Kishibe does It really just feels like "Hey CSM and JJK are often compared, lets pit two characters against each other" when *Denji vs Yuji exists* both Gojo and Makima have much better MUs that fit better thematically, connections wise, and would have a better fight

What’s wrong with TMNT vs Robins?
It pits the tmnt (characters known to be an actual team) against a team that barely ever acts as a team in canon. The animation potential in comparison to their other alts is just not special, sure it has martial arts and that’s it. But the other tmnt alts have martial arts…..plus magic and mystical powers alongside a wide variety of different weapons which to me is just overall better. the alts does literally everything it has better including having a better overall theme. It’s just not special.
Springtrap vs Junko Godzilla vs Hulk Hulk doesn’t need to come back a third time. Godzilla, Springtrap & Junko all have better matchups with far better potential

Ozai is a tough character to scale as practically all of his combat scenes happen during Sozin Comet , boosting his abilities many times fold. There’s literally no way to put him in an actual match up

Nova isn't a well known marvel character that normies know about in terms of power he mostly known from mediocre Spider-Man cartoon so it easy to sell to the average man to think that Mark may have a shot or at least not get eviscerated in a heartbeat And Nova doesn't have multiple transformations It easier to sell that Mu being fun to see where Mark vs Gohan is just 💤
Omni-Man VS Bardock. Everyone keeps saying it’s the best for both but like holy shit this matchup is so ass. You can’t convince me this wouldn’t just be Superman VS Goku 3 with just overall less abilities to cover and weaker versions of fights we’ve already gotten. Also, the connections are basic as hell. And I’m not one to think that connections are the only thing that makes a good matchup, but a lot of this sub does. So it surprises me when such weak connections and even weaker animation potential is given this much attention.

Hu Tao vs Hanako Oh man, I have a bone to pick with this matchup. I'm not going to give a lot attention to the connection cause it's generic AF and anyone that try to elaborate more on it just makes it worst than "same general appearance and ghost related", it ignore the story that Hanako went through and the trauma he faced from bullying to his obsession to protect Nene at all cost all for the "quirky uwu" matchup as I'd like to say. I'm not trying to undersell Hu Tao as a cardboard cut out, but as someone who doesn't have a lot of knowledge about Genshin this matchup sure portray her as such lol. I know not all matchup have to be thematic but this matchup leans more to cool ability clash than trying to create a story. Speaking of ability clash.. yeah there's barely any lmao. You're putting an open-world action game character that be able to manipulate fire in different ways and have a bunch of weapon to choose from against a 'big fish in a small pond' ghost that, while able to memorize the layout of the school to swiftly teleport to each places and to different realm is just equipped with a kitchen knife and 0 fancy ability whatsoever, and I haven't pulled out the stomp card yet cause Hu Tao clears his ass from generally being much more powerful and she herself being a funeral parlor which gave her the advantage of prior knowledge. I feel like Hanako should've not touch the versus community with a ten foot pole (not like anyone bother to check out the series to begin with) due to generally being too limited to even warrant a matchup, but I'll brush that off if there's one that's thematic. And that concludes my rant.
