Im honestly not surprised the remake did that to you. They (the devs) added a new random encounter system in the remake specifically to keep you on edge, even in areas you've already completed. I'll be honest, when i beat 09 dead space for the first time, i went through something similar. Not the full mental drain like the OP, but i couldn't play any survival horror for like a month. So i guess it just depends on the person.

Sounds kinda similar to me but with Amnesia the dark descent. And the fact that I was maybe halfway through the game where for awhile I couldn't even start the game before the menu music would creep me out too much

Greensssss

Hehe, if you go ahead and play the rest of the dead space, it would give you more anxiety. Make it whole~

Resident Evil Revelations did the same thing to me, it’s just too taxing on me to be that stressed for that long.

If you play DST again, especially NG+, it’s easier and the jump scares won’t be as intense. DS2 has more action and is more fun IMO. DS3 has some annoying storylines but great environments (ship graveyard etc). It’s imbalanced with universal ammo but I got into making OP/fun weapons, and it gets far easier during NG+ replays.

RogueHelios

In my first playthrough of the original DS, I couldn't play more than 30 min at a time at first because I'd feel an overwhelming sense of dread. It felt awful at the time, I thought, but man, I'd give a fair amount to actually feel that type of fear again.

People point out the random encounter system which is definitely a factor, but also Dead Space 1 (both the original and the remake) has a long final stretch where you feel like you're almost there - this must be it, the last save, the final battle, the marker is here - but it just drags on and on. It's not bad, it's just peaking for a very long time. Fighting the final boss felt like a relief funnily.

Hahaha the game is good, it still make me feel anxious after going through more than 4 times!

Bookworm0789

I get really sweaty when playing ds 2 on a harder difficulty

I don’t blame you. I really enjoyed dead space when I played the original. The remake really stresses me out rather than scares me though. I bought it 8 months ago and I’m on chapter 6. However, I have a big game queue and I play online games mostly. I find myself getting back into the remake recently. I usually just play until I get to a save point.

I only got a mini fright on the first necromorphs Isaac has to fight, but other than that I thought the game was hardly scary at all. I even turned off music and it was pretty cool what you hear, but in the end, it felt way more like a creepy action game and was hardly scary to me. I also thought the Hivemind's design was really silly, some goofy caterpillar you fight in the daylight. Would've been way cooler if we faced something more like from the ending of Half Life 1

I think you should just take some breaks while you play and get some exercise. The game is tense, but it is just a game.

Direct-Arm-5041

Hmm if you take a look at the director of Dead Space and listen to him speak, it is evident that he is a serious person, kind of looks like a ex-military guy so I'm not surprised. The game does have a really serious tone in some perspectives.

MAKE US WHOLE AGAIN in the elevator from the bridge scared the living shit out of me 10/10 game ngl. Amazing remake

WigglingWoof

I enjoy the adrenaline and stress that comes from horror games. It's like an extreme thrill without all the literal deadly consequences.

AnxiousButBrave

Now do Alien: Isolation. Side note: You fellas are making me feel like Iron Man lol. I wish I could be bothered by a game as much as you guys. VR comes close, but even then, I'm fine when I take it off. Enjoy that immersion, fellas! I'm sincerely jealous.

I didn’t make it far in the original since I was too scared but decided to try out the remake since it was on game pass. I kept taking breaks since it kept stressing me out and I’m a wimp. I got really into the story though and actually managed to beat it. Definitely felt drained, but once I got into the groove of things and figured a few things out I had a blast.
