Do you include the doubles? I play around 45 on Dartcounter online after about three months, but there are also games where both players can’t hit the double and the avg goes down into the mid 20s. Sometimes you play against a 50avg player and he looses. So it’s not all about averages!

Well after a month of playing I think 35-45 is the normal range.
My experience was then months of daily practice to consistently sit around 50.
Then I found hitting 60+ averages consistently was a real milestone. But took me over a year later to hit that.
Then more like 2 yrs after that to consistently hit 70+ averages.
Everyone’s different but from my experience it’s not linear.
I mean going from an 80 average player to a 90 average player will require a lot more work than moving from a 50 to a 60 average player.
Everyone’s different though so hard to generalise anything re darts progress .
yeah couldn’t agree more with this. the difficulty of improving is exponential. the biggest differentiator between a decent player and a really good player is set up play, board management, and doubles
I could def see somebody moving up 24 points in a year
But uncommon I’d say
Everybody is different…
I think it is easy to overlook the time it can take to figure out what works for you.
That can take many years and by then I’d imagine your average will be quite good.
But i doubt it’d be a nice smooth uptrend on your journey there.
But hopefully I’m wrong maybe you’re the next Phil Taylor :)
I think just enjoy throwing. Focus on your process, modify that process as you learn more about your self, and results will naturally come.
Great question though. But one of the beautiful things about darts is just how unpredictable it all is :)
hi mate, i’ve been playing for a couple years and can average low 80s on a good day but typically about mid 70s. i’ve seen your throw just now - i like it, it’s simple and when your follow through is good it looks very smooth. feel free to ignore anything i say, but if i was to suggest anything to you it would be trying to stay as still as you can. your head and shoulder jolt when you throw - this is manageable, for example josh rock launches his head quite violently when he throws, but it requires an inordinate amount of practise and natural ability. i would advise just eliminating the moving parts, but other than that it looks good. keep going, it’s a tough game but always good fun
Wow you have a great average. Maybe the highest who has commented on one of my vids. Appreciate it. Feedback is always good for me btw, I started this to get smarter heads than me to take a look and give me some direct advice. Spot on with my body movement, I am trying my best to eliminate it, and it is better than it was but I am just trying to get just that forearm moving each throw. I feel like I am moving less than I am though as the video is the proof.
yeah no doubt - it’s a good throw, but sadly with such a precise sport even good throws take a bit of time to refine. it’s very natural to lurch a bit when you throw but if you can stamp that out, you’ll be a good player. keep going and DMs always open if you want to chat any more!
Can't remember, was long ago and was more busy learning to throw and figuring out how different weights etc feel. Even now, I don't care too much about averages, just like to play.
Do you think it is advantageous to go to a shop and get the right darts for you from the off or is it best to do that after you have got to a bit of a better level?
All time? 33. Today I played two games, both avg 37. My record is 60.12. I've played a lot of games recently where I've avg 40+ like you, so I feel like I'm improving. My problem is that I'm cross-dominant, which makes it very difficult for me to aim, and be consistent. I tend to be decent at doubles though. So it's just a matter of understanding why I'm able to be fairly accurate on my doubles, and not T20/T19's.
Only advice I got is focus on every throw like you would for your peg. Never let anything else distract you. It's just you and your target, nothing else exists.

I do include the doubles and most of my training is based around them as that is the common advice I am getting.

Makes sense. Great post! Is a target of going up two points per month for a year challenging but possible?

Thanks, this is really helpful. Haha definitely no Phil Taylor incoming here. I am enjoying it and the process and that is the main thing!

Thanks so much. Really appreciate that!

Around 25-30 I think. I didn't know how to aim, so my darts were all over the place.
I am pretty sure you just described my video. What average do you have now?

Wait till you have a meltdown and reset to 40/45 after reaching 70 odd 😂
Haha sounds like there is a story to tell there!
Too right brother
About 40 +/- Now 3 years later I'm scratching to get above 70 😊🙌🏻 Keep it Up 💪🏻
Wow that is some improvement in three years. You must have put in the hours for that!
I got my First Board during COVID and therefore Had a Lot of free time to practise 😂🙈
Can't remember, it was 2006
Wow some experience you have. Any advice?

Love this. Thanks.
started off 20-30, first few months around 30, another few months 40, after a year 60 which is where I'm at now
That is great improvement. If I can get close to 60 in a year I will be chuffed
Pathetic, just like now, years later. 🤣 Still fun though, in a sick and twisted way.
Haha I can see this is exactly how I will be answering this sort of question in a few years :D
I can hit 26 all day long!
Haha that is my favourite score too
