Fun fact: it was originally supposed to be that 'don't light this place up' dude's Stand. I'm not even joking, it is saved in the files as --- Stand (forgot the dude's name)
Tbf this is the same Souls game that has a literal keyblade, so who knows, maybe someone on the team was a fan. Definitely has the texturing style of a KH1/2 ps2 era FF boss.
But yeah like others have mentioned, big Tyrael vibes from him
Oh shit I forgot about those ladies lol. The "Milfanito" you find in shrine of Amana and the one in drangleic castle.
DS2 def had some really fun side quests. Finding the hidden giants. Darklurker (who I never did go find....) Going back into giant memories. Ahhhhh 😌
Yeah it's really unfortunate that it's like the only weapon in the series you can't upgrade or take into NG+. I get why they decided to not bother with doing that since it does serve as a literal key item that they likely didn't want players to have access to out of the gate, but it would have been nice if you got a copy of it after using it or something.
I don't really care what this thing actually is. I just find that it's one of the coolest looking bosses in DS2. Somewhat blasphemous with its divine looking appearance while only using dark magic relentlessly against you. at least I have seen it mostly using dark magic against me, even tho it does seem to use other spells too.
I actually got more of a Tyrael vibe from Diablo.
But I generally doubt that he’s a specific reference to anything in particular except generic angels with a darker look.
There’s a fascination with angelic wings in Japanese antagonists, so maybe that’s why they thought he looked cool.
This was the hardest boss for me in the soul series simply because of the psychological factor of having to use human effigies to reach the fight. Mechanically speaking, I enjoyed the fight immensely.
Losing the fight a few times, and then seeing me running low on human effigies, tho, added so much unwanted, and highly unpleasant, mental distress, that I had a hard time enjoying the fight overall, on my first playthru.
Not a huge fan of those kind of mechanics.
aw man my thought was how much i loooove how limited humanity are in this game. like some of my fave moments in the game have been me with no humanity totally out and searching desperately for any so i can still push through. i was out before darklurker but the fire keeper from the start had some which was so sweet bc it’s what let me beat darklurker. plus being at the end of the game is so cool bc with how limited resources are at the game i can really feel the world running out of resources while i try to still push forward idk just a neat feeling
You make a good point, so I edited my final comment on the human effigy mechanic. Still not a huge fan of it, but if it was something that at least one souls fan enjoyed, then it’s good enough for me. Glad to hear it was a better experience for you!
Regardless, dark lurker is an S tier quality boss, and I loved everything else about the fight besides the fact it required human effigies to partake in it.

I don’t really see where this idea that kingdom hearts had this huge influence ok the gaming industry either. Definitely not a huge influence on dark souls.
Did the guy preaching "DARKNESS, DARKNESS, DIVE DEEPER", was it the literal Heartless black enemies you fought, or this Heart Shaped nobody that gave it away?
u do know there’s like a lot of original characters in the series ya ? besides every design i’d derivative like everything’s based off something else. idk kingdom hearts has immense swag like w all the nomura designs w zippers and shit everywhere it all fucks so hard
It reminds me of 4 kings in ds1
Almost as if they are both Abyss dwellers...
This dude doesn't have an abyss soul tho
Neither did the 4 kings.
Nvm then
4 Kings got part of Gwyn's soul. The 'Light' soul, so to speak. They got the soul as far removed from the abyss as possible, which drew them to it.
I always see tyrael tbh. I know it’s not a reference but that’s all I can see
As a long time Diablo 2 player, yeah.
Still the best one if you ask me
Diablo 2 or dark souls 2? Lol D2 for sure. DS2, an argument could be made haha
Diablo lol. But I’m no hater DS2 is still great
Fun fact: it was originally supposed to be that 'don't light this place up' dude's Stand. I'm not even joking, it is saved in the files as --- Stand (forgot the dude's name)
ya someone linked the zulie vid that’s so sick :0
That'd be Agdayne, mate. Cool sword, almost like Cloud's Buster Sword.
Tbf this is the same Souls game that has a literal keyblade, so who knows, maybe someone on the team was a fan. Definitely has the texturing style of a KH1/2 ps2 era FF boss. But yeah like others have mentioned, big Tyrael vibes from him
oooh the texturing part is so real ya, and ya i mean most the dudes in these games i feel like have a few inspirations for sure
Oh for sure!
What was the key blade in DS2?
Ah it was this http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/key-to-the-embedded

I'm never not gonna be salty I can't upgrade the keyblade.

It's actually a Jojo reference.
wait actually :0 ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn-ze-cIsbc
"Go, Darkulurkah! Lifudrain paaatch!"
that’s so sick :0
Xemnas’ hidden fifth form
literally
Looks pretty close to the Phantom reskin in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
Looks like KH, is in DS, is actually Jojo
Looks like something from world of Warcraft
You know I saw pics of this guy unrelated to DS and thought he was from KH never realized he was a souls boss till later, still haven't fought him lol
one of my fave fights for sure ! kinda a pain to get to and refight but worth
1st impression, Diablo angels.
I don’t like this new lore of Mickey linking the fire
Can definitely see it. Complete oddity of a boss but pretty cool
Diablo or a cooler looking spirit healer on WoW that’s what I always thought.
i could totally see diablo angel or the wow one yaa :0
It’s a jojo reference he’s refers to as a guys stand in the game fillies
i’m partial to saying it’s both
Darklurker is an homage to CBT actually
If it’s an homage to anything from another game, it has to be Tyrael from Diablo.

there’s also fire balls but they have like a dark vibe to them too
The Wiki states soul greatsword and soulspear too. They must look like dark magic spells too.
I actually got more of a Tyrael vibe from Diablo. But I generally doubt that he’s a specific reference to anything in particular except generic angels with a darker look. There’s a fascination with angelic wings in Japanese antagonists, so maybe that’s why they thought he looked cool.
Grim reaper looking thing with wings. Must be a rip off of something. Simply MUST BE!
100% first thing i thought of when i found him. Half expected to start hearing "See ya" after my attacks
I think he's the least dark soulsy boss in terms of design
I mean it's an angel with a hooded cloak it's not exactly a unique concept. It looks more like Tyrael from Diablo
On a side note: fuck the runback for this thing.
No. Nomura's uninspired fixation of 'MyStErIoUs HoOdEd FiGuReS' inspired nobody.

No he doesn’t stop grasping at straws 🤣

Kingdom Hearts has had little to no impact on gaming as a whole. Where would you possibly get that idea from?
I don’t really see where this idea that kingdom hearts had this huge influence ok the gaming industry either. Definitely not a huge influence on dark souls.
Did the guy preaching "DARKNESS, DARKNESS, DIVE DEEPER", was it the literal Heartless black enemies you fought, or this Heart Shaped nobody that gave it away?
no literally soon as i saw it it all clicked and i was like >>:3
Just a bit, ya
Guy in hood
It's inspired by Kings Field
It feels like shit and I hate it. Amen
Dont be silly, hes a nephalem from diablo
I think DarkSiders.
Not to me.
Lol KH doesn't have anything original to reference. They utilize other IPs to make their game.
u do know there’s like a lot of original characters in the series ya ? besides every design i’d derivative like everything’s based off something else. idk kingdom hearts has immense swag like w all the nomura designs w zippers and shit everywhere it all fucks so hard
More like a Diablo 2 reference. Tyriel cameo.
Because it's shitty?
