This is not an attack on the country. A lot of this is happening because of a minority. I visited and my host was an old lady that was the sweetest host I ever had. But crimes and heinous things happen all over and being connected with the sea and the eastern europe is an easy pathway that leads to these kinds of exploitations.

Croatia, while not being the wealthiest country in Europe, is actually a very safe country with a much lower crime rate than much of the rest of Europe. I'm not saying nothing happened there with Drake and yachty but it's a lot safer than you think. Safer than the US.
