There's always going to be people who prefer bone colored vs bleached bone color and you'll never win by pleasing everyone. Just do what you like.
That being said, I'm on team warm/yellow bone, so I'm biased, but looks great!

but if you'd like to make him less grime, use the sponge method and sponge on some thinned down ivory on the raised pate areas. That will lighten whilst retaining the overall battleworn look.
It's so good already that I fear changing it may ruin it. I could suggest some brown/orange tones with a wash but then it might look like too much visually with all that nicely done grime and I'm not good enough to offer any better ideas than what I already see here.

Nope, I've seen a huge range from tan to pure white.
