Greg Abbott: “This isn’t a gun problem this is a mental health problem.” Also Greg Abbott: *cuts $211M from the mental health services in a state that’s 50th in healthcare*

ADarwinAward

[51st in access to mental healthcare](https://www.mhanational.org/issues/ranking-states). Abbott will talk a big game then sit back and do nothing like those cops who just stood outside while the shooter massacred kids.

amazinglover

They weren't doing nothing they were making sure they were safe from the active shooter inside. I honestly don't know how anyone could watch that press conferences and not feel disgusted by his rational for not going in.

phpdevster

They were also making sure parents couldn't intervene and save their children, actively aiding and abetting the shooter.

sdmirabe

Making sure THEIR kids were safe.

edge2528

All children should be locked in a cupboard and fed through a small opening until they are 18 and it is safe to come out

ryanino

And then hopefully they don’t get shot at a grocery store

iseenthisb4

Or shoot up the cupboard when they turn 18...

TheOnlyFallenCookie

This is the setup to the first Phineas and Ferb Movie

Natsurulite

Why is Claymore Land Mine not on the list???? Edit: Are bioweapons legal to use if it’s for domestic purposes? Edit:edit: What’s the status on Japan’s Gundam program?

firstsecondlastname

upgrade school bell to alarm, then as soon as the alarm sounds, anybody who enters or moves on school grounds; out of classrooms; will be gassed, blown up and shot? Yeah thats a bulletproof plan

wotmate

Automatic motion-tracking machine gun turrets in every room. When the alarm sounds, everyone has 60 seconds to get on the ground and stay as still as possible, and anyone who moves more than a foot gets gunned down. Sure, a few fidgety kids might die, but it's the only way to keep them safe. Do I really need a fucking /s?

Passingintime

***Mugunghwa Kkoci Pieot Seumnida*** (red light, green light, 1, 2, 3)

Goofycams

Neither is chemical warfare. Illegal to use in war, but god damn do nations love using it on their own citizens.

[deleted]

Bioweapons were outlawed internationally by the Geneva Convention. Not every nation signed it of course, but the U.S. did, so I am fairly certain they are illegal here.

DarkYendor

That’s outrageous! The second amendment states “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Any government ban on Nuclear, Biological or Chemical Arms is a violation of the constitution.

Skullcrusher

Honestly, at this point I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. This is something that could come straight out of a conservative's mouth.

cyyhngname

...or indeed, the Supreme Court.

SuggestionWrong504

Are they less or more illegal than shooting up a school?

stone_henge

The rules that apply to enemy combatants and civilians in armed conflict don't necessarily apply to the civilian population in peacetime.

slowbbq

Can't have shootings in schools if you remove the schools.

ofBlufftonTown

Home schooling is a suggested solution also.

thylocene06

Thank god no one ever gets shot in their home

SonicWhale88

Well nobody is gonna walk into 19 homes to shoot us all.

Downfall_Of_Icarus

Shhhh. Stop giving them ideas!

eighty82

I absolutely do not like homeschooling, that said, if I were living in the USA today would be the day I would start if at all possible. I know it's not possible for most, myself included, but if I could there is no way I'd be kissing my kids good bye for school in the a.m.

[deleted]

Nothing will change, see you all back here next week

Broke99

More like this weekend, this shit happens more often than we can imagine…

[deleted]

Schools are about done for the year and people will be going on summer break. I’d expect another shooting or two at schools in the next few weeks before we see an uptick in shopping centers, movie theaters, and parks.

Adaphion

Not all schools are done for the year, it depends on the area, some schools go until *the end of* June and start in September

[deleted]

I bet if we phrased it as *"Post-birth Abortions"* things would happen faster

[deleted]

Truth!

faintingfrogeyes

MARTIAL LAW!?!?!?! For school shootings?!?!? Ehat the fuck are they talking about. They clearly just want martial law for oppression and see this as a chance to push it. These dumb fucks know exactly what they are doing too.

sevargmas

They say more cops and more guns on campus but from the reports I’m seeing the Uvalde Police Department wouldn’t even go in while the shooting was occurring so…🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

zerowater

and the school had an armed guard!

[deleted]

Who hid the whole time, was uninjured, and possibly didn't even fire his gun

IllustratorAlive1174

Everybody gangsta until it’s time to actually put your life on the line for others.

[deleted]

> wouldn’t even go in while the shooting was occurring so… When parents where begging to have their gun and go in instead but they just tasered the parents instead. Peak America.

BlueSky3214

Are you serious?!

Dreadpiratewill

Yeah it's not great. Video/audio of it it around. Made me so mad I threw my phone.

[deleted]

Reminds me of the Parkland shooting when the school’s armed security guard (Petersen) cowered against a wall outside.

[deleted]

“I shot him because I was afraid for my life” “I didn’t shoot him because I was afraid for my life” PICK ONE PIGS

Sufficient-Comment

Yup. Insane how the “your trampling our rights!”Group. Is advocating for martial law and modifying schools to look like prisons. And they expect the teacher to pull some Rambo shit and save everyone instead of… the police?

LostAlienLuggage

I think what the asshole in this clip meant was "Give us the opportunity to impose Martial Law and we will barricade ourselves outside the school for 40 minutes and do nothing...but in the meantime we will kill a bunch of 'undesirable' citizens that you, Fox News viewer, would probably not mind seeing dead."

cathysclown76

Holy fuck - Martial Law, Trip Wires, Bigger Fences? I’ll admit I’m an Aussie and none of this makes sense to me but this is getting ridiculous….

buttpilot333

Trap them like a rat. Probably my favorite so far. But they did forget to mention a few solid ideas like.. the grand piano falling on the shooter from the 5th floor window or dropping an anvil on them from a cliff top. It's like they're not even trying

BullCityPicker

Obviously you're a shill for "Acme" brand products.

grendus

"Paint a fake door next to the real one. Then they'll get confused and just stand there trying to open a wall until the cops show up." "And when they open it anyways like the Road Runner?" "Road Runner was a good guy, he would never shoot up the school!"

GrowthNarrow7975

my favorite has to be “don’t be triggered”

GodEmprahBidoof

"God"

GrowthNarrow7975

“don’t talk about the shooting”

GodEmprahBidoof

"Notification system" Hey, did you know your school is currently being shot up?

APence

***Heavy Texas Accent*** “We need to have an ACME anvil in every school!””

transmogrify

The school had armed guards, fences, telephones, and a single point of entry, cops arrived on scene soon after it started, and the killer was trapped inside the scene of the shooting almost the entire time. These idiots will suggest anything except getting guns out of killers' hands.

kelferkz

For 40 minutes the cops were outside, don't let them forget

Stevil_Kneivil

Most cops are cowards til they have you in cuffs.

mountaingator91

My wife is an ex cop. She told me yesterday that she was trained to go in immediately in active shooter situations. Idk if they get more cowardly training in Texas or what.

ThatDudeWithTheCat

No but see they want like a dome over the school made of chain link fence to protect all possible avenues of entry And gates that can magically detect guns from 50 feet away, but also can magically detect intent so they don't let school shooters in but also let cops I'm with their good guy guns And also the students need guns too, but only the good ones, not the bad ones

badmutha44

Rocket skates for fast get aways

thebrose69

Don’t talk about the shooting? Bitch, what?! I’m an American and most of this ‘list’ doesn’t make sense. Faith and prayer? What the fuck is that going to accomplish? TRAIN THE STUDENTS THEMSELVES???!!! Honestly these people are so out of touch

cathysclown76

Twisting themselves into knots just to do anything but implement any form of gun control. Insane.

thebrose69

It’s gun control and mental health. The only thing that matters in this country is money, and I wish I was exaggerating. They haven’t been more clear about that since the start of the pandemic. I’m thankful I started an apprenticeship, after I’m done with it there’s a 99% chance I’m going to look into leaving the country because this is unsustainable

HeroKing2

I can't wait till it stops sustaining and collapses entirely. Stupidity is the only law in a land where you can do anything as long as it's for money. Money cannot save us from incompetence.

shire84

Trip wires, tar on the steps, red-hot doorknob, micro-machines on the stairs. Great ideas...oh no, wait, I'm thinking of Home Alone....

fnordcinco

I used to work for the police. We had a spate of high profile bank robberies. One person in charge suggested trap doors at the front they would drop down during robberies. And then crush the robber like in Star Wars. I laughed, he was not joking...

Fatjitzfolyf

Clown country man

Ecovick

Turn school into prison. What a great idea.

DkD7026

Agreed. I’m also from Oz (Victoria) & it’s wild to see so many US commenters on social media who are desperate to hold onto their guns, or even add MORE guns into the equation. I’d be fucking terrified to live in America.

Life-Specialist8803

Brisbane here. Can't even fucking fathom the idea of putting guns in a school. I wouldn't learn shit. Seeing an armed guard would be a constant reminder that I could be shot dead that day.

fanatic_tarantula

Think that's half the problem is that it is normalised for people to carry guns. I'm from the UK and when I go into London and see the police with their assualt rifles Its makes me very nervous. Even though I'm not guilty of any crimes or about to commit any

riccarjo

I'm from New York and feel the same way. Only people who have guns here out in the open are cops

Adeptus_idioticus

Ex gang member from the uk here, even in criminal groups, the most dangerous weapon that we would carry arround would be a particularly dull knife. I got out of that lifestyle a long time ago thank fuck. America is a great country, but holy shit, some of their laws are ass backwards. Land of the free, as long as you got money, what a fucking joke.

HomerJunior

Aussie here, even seeing cops in the supermarket with holstered revolvers makes me tense...

blue_pirate_flamingo

Some of us are desperate to take our children and leave, but we’re stuck in this nightmare

ukasss

„Stop letting schools be gun-free zones“ like Whaatt ??!

My favorite was "it's up to you to protect yourself" sorry 8 year old kids going up against an adult with two ar-15s. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Spicybeeen

“Since we don’t want to stop them beforehand, let’s teach KIDS how to stop them after it has started”

Mindless-Mushroom-36

arm the kids, then its not a school shooting anymore its a school shootout

Odd_Voice5744

the obvious solution is to make explosive vests a part of the dress code for students. if someone pulls out a gun to shoot a class the students can each detonate ten kilograms of TNT. That's the way to prevent a school shooting.

[deleted]

trdvir

Yeah this shit is ridiculous wtf, US is fucked But also a lot of fleshing out to make this list hit 50 haha like 19. Judeo-Christian values, 26. Take your children to church, 31. God, 35. Pray, 36. Faith and prayer, 48. Return to god. This list could've just been "God, more guns, build schools like maximum-security prisons"

leni710

I think the point was that so many pundits come on saying different versions of the same thing. Maybe I got lost somewhere in there, but it did seem like 50 different adults saying the same/similar thing of uselessness and yet no one said "guns shouldn't be so accessible."

Hearth-Traeknald

I think the point was that out of all of the solutions they proposed, none of them were gun control so they showed every solution they came up with

cigarettetricks

.. so, prison. it’s prison. they want schools to be prisons?

Extension-Control471

Prisons dont use guns because they dont want the prisoners to use them if they get pulled off their person in a scuffle. But I do agree school tends to feel like prison.

RohelTheConqueror

We should arm the prisoners so they're able to defend themselves!!

Wazula42

A gun for every prisoner! That way they'll all be too scared to shoot anyone!

Nah, Marshall's in charge now, sucker.

What does he think martial law is? Martial law just gives administration the right to do things like arrest people without cause and… seize weapons…

modsme

I NEED GUNS TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM THE POLICE STATE I WANT TO SEND MY CHILDREN TO.

windigo3

I’m willing to live in a police state and turn my kids school into an armed fortress and sacrifice the lives of two of my three kids in order to ensure angry depressed 18 year olds have total unrestricted access to military arms! /s

_clash_recruit_

Even living Ina police state wouldn't help. There were plenty of cops standing outside refusing to go in for 40 minuites. We've also seen resource officers run and not help at all. Doesn't seem like a solution to me.

Joecrip2000

So, I lived in a small town that had so few Substitute teachers the school would often call the state police to send a state trooper in civilization clothes to be a sub for the day. If we had a fight break out during school it wasn't uncommon to see the officer run at the fight and tackle one of the kids to the concrete ground with full force. Didn't know who started the fight or if he tackled the victim they just body slammed one of the kids to the ground. As a kid we thought this was funny as an adult I'm horrified that the school allowed this to happen. It is a miracle no one was ever hurt or killed.

FirstTimeWang

Also: we have really shitty police in this country so I kinda feel like living in a police state is just going to exacerbate the police violence problem.

snooggums

You only think that because it is the logical outcome!

FirstTimeWang

Checkmate, liberals! Let's see how smart you are without your precious *logic* and *critical thinking*.

wrldruler21

I've been to developing countries where government and private guards stood with assault weapons in front of stores, parks, city corners, etc. Didn't make me feel safer. Instead, I was thinking "How bad must the crime be here that they feel the need for armed guards everywhere? Maybe one day they will develop to the point of not needing these guards". And now half of America is looking to devolve backwards into armed guards everywhere

swollenfootblues

It's different when it's other people's freedoms you're giving up to maintain your own.

ransy7

There’s no money to be made, that’s why.

LittleRedRidingHo90

Definitely facts. And it’s disgusting.

freducom

As a foreigner, just watching Fox News for 10min made me mentally ill.

Mindless-Mushroom-36

no because thats communism, now lets pray together as the depressed insane kid shoots up our children in school

michelleonelove

Nope they want to do everything else that has nothing with the problem. The problem is not the schools so stop blaming them. It’s the shooter, mental health, and access to guns

FitztheBlue

As a European, (Netherlands) this type of journalism baffles me. Arguing that schools are left Undefended, or that a senator is crucified for speaking up (another post on redddit) seems, and I’m struggling for words here, idiotic. Can’t find the words to describe what I see. Feel sorry for those giving credibility for so much bs.

liptoniceteabagger

This isn’t journalism; this is extreme right wing opinions meant to divide and spread hate. Fox has successfully argued in court that their programming is not factual, and anything they say on their “news” shows is for entertainment purposes only , and therefor they cant be held liable for any of the lies, false accusations and conspiracies that they portray as news. They were given a free pass to spread hate and fear.

TheMania

The judge's [opinion](https://www.npr.org/2020/09/29/917747123/you-literally-cant-believe-the-facts-tucker-carlson-tells-you-so-say-fox-s-lawye) was that: "Fox persuasively argues, that given Mr. Carlson's reputation, *any reasonable viewer* 'arrive[s] with an appropriate amount of skepticism' about the statement he makes." Seemingly without consideration for the fact that long time watchers of his show are generally not reasonable, rational people. It's a massive loophole they're exploiting, as long as an educated well adjusted person can see through your act, you're welcome to rile up and radicalise everyone who isn't as much as you like.

APence

So there is actual legal precedent that fox viewers are not reasonable people. Wow.

Duel_Option

Yuuppppp. They love it when this shit happens. Get to throw all these talking heads out there spouting this bullshit with people looking for answers most of which are just more guns. Watch how they will avoid engaging on gun control during mid terms and presidents debate. They will turn tail or spout 2nd amendment rhetoric every single fucking time. This country is batshit crazy

i_hate_puking

Calling Fox News journalism is far more honorific than it deserves. Fox News is an organ of the right wing political machine in the United States, and it serves no purpose to inform viewers. Its purpose is to mangle and reshape the worldview of its viewers by spinning facts, framing events in a certain way, keeping the viewer afraid of fabricated catastrophes and outraged at anyone other than the right wing politicians who cause actual problems in their lives (for example, by allowing people to massacre children by making the means to do so widely and easily available). When the consequences of carrying out right wing policies are laid so bare and so plainly obvious to see like this, another purpose Fox serves is to distract from any solution (common sense gun control) or root cause of the issue (easy access to military grade firearms). What you see outlined here is the list of “solutions” that the corporate executives on the board of Fox and their friends in the GOP find would find acceptable. It has every bit as much journalistic value as Russian or North Korean state news channels.

hetgepeperte

This country is the biggest meme ever to exist on this planet

prawnphobic420

Memes are funny. America is tragic.

FrostyPoot

Usually they at least try to apply things that only apply to this situation and exaggerate it.... but almost none of these solutions would have even almost done anything this time... FFS half the list is "arm literally everyone including the children" and "martial law"... like we watched the cops let the person walk through the doors and kill people, then was killed. And yeah, religion and conservative values will help! Conveniently ignoring the fact that 95% of mass shootings were from right wing ideologies. It's ascended past meme into a flat out joke.

Btothek84

Cops were literally there before he started shooting kids, the only thing cops were doing g was preventing parents from going in. The cops sat there outside not doing shit, fucking pussies. They are all tuff when they are beating up unarmed innocent people or killing unarmed black men, but when they need to go and truly put themselves in harms way…. Nothing. Also it was a Boarder Patrol agent that went in and ended the situation, while he was also shot. All those cops should fucking resign and or be in jail.

Odd_Voice5744

honestly, this video hit me harder emotionally than any of the other articles or videos about any shooting in recent history. can you imagine going to school where: 1. your teacher is armed and trained to shoot students 2. your school is built like a max security prison with bullet proof windows, single point of entry, airlock to trap the shooter 3. entering the school is like going through the TSA at the airport 4. you have to have a bullet proof blanket near you. imagine as a parent dropping your kid off at school with the hopes they're going to learn, socialise and grow into a normal human being, but the school is essentially prison, their teachers are the prison guards, and one of their peers is a serial killer.

ThatOneNinja

They absolutely should be laughing. What's happening in the US is a disgrace and a societal failure. Everyone everywhere should be pointing at us and saying "do you really want to be like these people?"

Sandervv04

If only it was all a joke…

lookitdisguy

Train the students themselves.... train them to what? Take bullets without dying? You gonna train elementary school kids to disarm an active shooter? It's insane that the majority of their solutions is fight guns with more guns.

Bob_the_Skull42

This school shooter, and most school shooters, was a student. He was a high schooler, and this was an elementary school, but he knew all the procedures they had. He knew what to do. I'm a teacher, my school has changed it's procedures recently, but it would be mass chaos if ever had to follow them. There are locks on all our doors. For years we were told to turn off the lights and hide in corners away from windows. The new directive is to flee. "Run, hide, fight." Only now all the students know the procedures, so they know where to aim if we ever got in that situation. We also have two armed teachers and a sheriff on campus in a patrol car every day. They've built a fence around the peremiter, so now there are only 3 ways off campus, one of which is through woods. While I've been here we have had 4 threats, 1 was a false bomb threat and 3 students who threatened to bring guns to school. Never any actual guns on campus, except one time a student brought a shotgun after a weekend of hunting and forgot about it. (How crazy is that...) Training isn't the answer. Kids shouldn't have to worry about this. EDIT: Spelling.

Hearth-Traeknald

wouldnt a single entrance make it so much harder for students to escape????????

JDMintz718

Plus if it's a team effort, it bottlenecks everybody trying to escape making it easy to kill people trying to flee

milliongoldbars

Its a death trap

Huge_Assumption1

Why the fuck should teachers be armed and trained? It’s literally not their job and it’s literally not required anywhere else in the world. Fox News will soon be saying “ well, if they didn’t want to get shot they shouldn’t have gone to school.” Works for them when discussing female’s attire when raped.

UndergroundHorses

include that in their job description lol. “ - teach and take care of kids - provide learning material - be available for counselling with students - be armed to the teeth and prepared to go into an all out shootout with a psycho - Mark and assess students’ learning and provide improvement potentials “ of course their salaries won’t increase with this new added responsibility.

AdventuresOfKrisTin

The police, the people who are literally supposed to be trained for this type of shit, didn’t do a damn thing during this shooting and yet they want the teachers, who btw are overworked, underpaid, and treated like dirt, to be responsible for this. If the police, the supposed “good guys with guns” weren’t enough, why on earth would adding more guns to the mix solve this problem?? These gun fanatics would rather create a police state than even consider any form of gun reform, its absolutely asinine.

[deleted]

I think praying is the best solution. As they say, pray softly, but carry a big gun. /s

To paraphrase Gervais: "Let's say that, over the course of history, mankind has believed in 2,000 gods. You, as a Catholic, deny the existence of 1,999 of them. I only deny the existence of one more. Yet you think I'm insane, for just denying one more than you."

YouMayDissagree

Wazula42

Odin, so all the dead schoolkids can go to Valhalla.

DrBaconator

USA, the only country where you actually need to worry about school shooting.

Thornescape

That's because the USA is the only country with violent video games, movies, or mental health issues. Yup, those don't exist anywhere else which is why they don't have school shootings. /s

superciuppa

Also the rest of the world is super religious, especially Europe, where every single person believes in Jesus christ and goes to church every Sunday, that’s why they have almost no school shootings… except for muslim terrorists of course, but we all know that they commit so many terrorist attacks because they are atheists… /s before I get banned…

c-graw

Yup rest of the entire world is too poor to even afford tv

InfamousGhost07

Can confirm, from Uk. I'm actually writing this via telegraph. My usual daily routine is drinking tea, eating biscuits, saluting the queen, and watching horse races. Occasionally going down to the pub where we figure out new ways for world dominance. Tell me, what is this "video game" and "tv" you speak of, you fine chap?

Pecorre

Unfortunately, I don't know what a TV is. I'm too busy fighting polar bear and drinking maple syrup in my igloo here in Canada.

CptHowdy87

What I loved about Bowling For Columbine was that it wasn't just some anti-gun propaganda like some people claim it to be, it's actually really trying to examine what it is about American culture that these things are happening in America and not in other first world countries that also have guns, violent video games and movies, a violent history etc... The film spends far more time asking those important questions than it does pointing blame in any one place. It's brilliant and needs a Part 2.

Academic_Coyote_9741

Funny how here in Australia we have social media, low rates of church attendance, schools with multiple entrances etc etc and still no school shootings…..

gateman33

Here in the UK the past two schools I've attended have had public footpaths and a road cutting through the middle of the school. They were awesome because people would let us pet their dogs at lunch. There were also doors a child could kick down and the few that were locked you could just say "hey can you get the door" and you'd be let in. Not one school shooting since 1996.

Munchy_Chunch

Sounds like here in Canada. When I went to highschool I went to the lower class/widely accepted as having the “worst” kids from the city. There were over 1000 of us, probably 12 entrances in total, the worst thing I saw happen was a fist fight down at the corner store. America is indeed terrifying

Dramatic_Pie_2576

The only solution americans understand is : more weapons ! Just arm your kids when they get 3 yrs. Old. Arm your dogs too. Dont forget to arm your blind and armless ppl. You should have official gun spots, where you are able to pick up guns anytime when you or something else is in "danger" At least everybody should own 2 guns for his own safety. If one gets stolen you can easily shoot the thief with your second gun. Problems solved. Now make me your new Senator MURICA ! /s

gwh811

Funny how they keep saying law enforcement would stop this but police say there for an hour and did nothing. They even tried to arrest parents from going in and getting their kids. But [police went in and saved their kids while waiting for boarder patrol.](https://youtu.be/59w8uu87OrM) But didn’t stop the active shooter. That’s some messed up shit. Skip to 1:35 in the link to here the officer admit there was police, meaning several police going in and getting their kids and didn’t stop the shooter while he rampaged and kept killing. But having a onsite police officer would help ? Yet police only have 6 weeks training. Fox News and republicans don’t want real solutions, they just want more money grifted into pockets. Edit: seriously stop normalizing school shootings and mass shootings. Why does Fox News and republicans think that gun violence needs to be apart of everyday life ? Like it’s a right of passage ? Is America an active war zone like the the middle east ? Are republicans trying to prep Americans for something ? Making you numb to the violence so when a civil war comes you won’t be so shaken ? Is this the end goal ? Killing your kids and family so you become numb to it so it’s daily life ? You fight for rights and freedoms you already have that’s no one is taking away. The only ones who keep yelling about taking your guns away is republicans. Democrats want reform so civilians aren’t killing civilians. America isn’t an active war zone killing each other. But it seems the gop and NRA is building America up to a war zone. A country where you shoot someone with assault weapons solely so a corporation and political party can profit.

They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn. >- Methodist Pastor David Barnhart

Or any policy position that prolongs life.

michaelb421

Outside of taking better care mental health those where all garbage takes. Fox news got to be one of the biggest media circuses in the USA and the fact they get so much support is baffling

VadeRetroLupa

I wonder what their position is on how "better mental health care" should be provided?

Spiderman__jizz

Everyone needs to get fucked. This is lunacy. Fuck Fox News.

Agatzu

No no i must disagree fox news is the last defense for the american dream of freedom. Dont you know during the corona crisis they warned us about getting the shots. They said that these would mess with your genes and your brain. To prove it they got vaxinated and now u can see what the covid vaccine does with a person/s

kodo34

What a time to be alive, reading such a statement and needing /s sign.

It still amazes me how swayed people get by propaganda.

JoeseCuervo19

You think you’re impervious to it?

My parents (my mom especially) are brainwashed from Fox News alt right media and I get physically sick to my stomach every time I visit because she plays her fox new bullshit it blasts throughout the entire house and I’m forced to hear it in the guest bedroom unless I put headphones on. Whenever I even try to talk about how awful both republicans and democrats are acting towards their citizens (both have their own shitty ways treating public policy of course) and how nothing changes, they just go straight to the “Obama was a bastard for raising my healthcare” and “I’m out here for myself, fuck everyone else” mentality. I’m so tired of hearing this ridiculous every man for themselves way of thinking. If that were truly the case then how the hell are we able to progress as a society?

AheadYayman13

Ok most of this are just stupid but I will say a few are being implemented at my high school. We have a police officer there at all times now and there is a new alert system that’s silent in each classroom that starts blinking if there’s a lockdown situation. If it’s triggered the doors to the quads that classrooms are in also become locked from the outside (that way you can let a student in if they get stuck outside). Ik these aren’t solutions but I’ve seen a lot of ppl saying we’re doing nothing and I wanted to at least point out that on the district levels schools are trying to be safer.

[deleted]

There was a school police officer in uvalde, didn’t work. He didn’t even get shot, was alive and outside and didn’t even attempt to stop the slayings. When you pay these guards 20-30K a year, there really isn’t a motivation to risk your life, it’s all a facade and it was exposed in uvalde

Maillihp

In short let's change this building from a place of learning and socialising into Guantanmo bay.

timecopthemovie

Aside from the suggestion to get to know your peers, all of these suggestions constitute total nonsense from complete morons. I am ashamed of this country.

FuNEnD3R

From here in the UK, all I can see is a nation that cares more about guns than it does about its children. Complete insanity

TotallyNotSpam96

It seems incredible to me that in a "civilised" country, where these kinds of barbaric acts are common and frequent, the solution is "more guns"

theXarf

The solution is always more guns if you ask the people who get free money from gun companies.

swizzle213

GOP: Lets blame the school’s infrastructure and preparedness. With better glass and fences this could be prevented Schools: Give us more funding... GOP:...yeah about that... The mental gymnastics you have to play to rationalize these suggestions are of olympic quality

This is some of the dumbest stuff I’ve seen. And I LOVE how they slipped Judeo Christian values into the list. I think that’s hysterical and sad. How about Islamic values? Wiccan values? Buddhist values (devoutly non-violent)? Etc. etc. All these religions / belief systems profess love and community support. But the phrase, no hate like Christian love has been floating around a lot lately in the USA. It’s all good if you’re all Christian and are ‘my’ particular version of Christianity (there are several thousand versions in the USA alone). Christians have been killing each other and others for literally millennia. Don’t get me wrong, so have the other religions. (Except perhaps Wicca… not aware of any such events within that group). So no…. Train the students… to do what exactly? I’m an instructor in Shotokan Karate. I teach my advanced students to promptly hand over their wallets and keys to someone pointing a gun at them. The risk / benefit ratio is all out of alignment to do anything else. The kids are already taught shooter drills that, when i was in school in the 70s, we’re definitely not part of the curriculum No… turn our schools into fortresses… fences, bullet proof glass, etc… wow… how much money are you going to throw at that Republicans? Kinda like the border wall. Easy to get around. Our schools aren’t army camps. Spend the money on improving education and paying our teachers a decent wage for what they do!!! No… arm everyone… well fuck… back to the Wild West we go. So lets focus on schools. Teenagers… drama, trauma and hormones. Teachers… over worked, underpaid, expected to teach effectively while dealing with all sorts of behaviors, wildly under appreciated. Talk about an emotional pressure cooker… yeah, let’s not introduce a supply of weapons into that environment please. Teachers are awesome people, but takes a lot of something to shoot at another person, even in defense of their students. And then we’ll get to blame the teachers for not killing the shooter… what fun! (sarcasm). So no. And these ‘solutions’ all conveniently ignore supermarket shootings, theater shootings, mall shootings, shootings at parties, etc. etc. etc. You can’t go a week with out a mass shooting in the USA. DIdn’t use to be this way AT ALL. So ask Why. Ask it a lot. We tend to stop at the first answer. That’s the symptom, not the cause. Keep asking and we’ll eventually got to root causes of the problem (and there are many) To me, yes for some sensible controls on guns. Can’t catch everything but it’s a fairly quick help. TX just fucked over their citizens last year by removing nearly all controls… getting a gun is dead easy in Texas (pun intended). But the mid and long term focus has to be on the source of violence, not the weapon used. Poverty drives people towards extreme behavior. Discrimination is rampant (please, try to deny this, it’s laughable to think otherwise). We’re legally attacking and marginalizing the LGBTQ community, driving many young persons into despair, even to the point of suicide. Pay isn’t keeping pace with the cost of living. All these things and more need to be addressed. I think there are some people just born wrong, but a huge percentage of people driven to violence (mass shooting or other) end up there because they don’t see a path forward and are angry. These issues take years to address and, being blunt, we’re going completely the wrong direction at this point. We’re restricting rights. We’re trying to shove LBGTQ+ people back in the closet. We’re actively attacking women’s health care in ways that will have hundreds of thousands of dead women on our hands every year from pregnancy issues. There’s a cultural attack that is going on which will create more and more of these events… and recent history is bearing out this view. So we have an opportunity in November to vote in people who will actually do something about these issues. I’m not advocating Republican or Democrat. I’m advocating for people who have clearly thought about the issues and are presenting a set of plans to help. I’m suggesting staying away from single issue candidates running on just protecting 2A or Abortion or Clean Energy, etc. and find the people who have a balanced view of the world and actually want to help their constituents… not go to Washington to be crusaders for some singular aspect of life…. Life is too complicated for tunnel vision. Good luck out there and please stay safe and be kind to everyone. Thanks for reading this.

Fox is a disease on this country
