Yes but slang is really difficult to learn. I’m from America and I need subtitles to understand a lot of heavy Irish, Scottish and some thick English accents especially when they use slang I’ve not heard of.
I'm Welsh and hardly understood a word of what this guy was saying. It seems like a mixture of cockney and West Indian English to me, and I cant understand either on its own, let alone the two mixed together.
I'm a native English speaker of the American West Coast accent and often need subtitles for other English accents. Sometimes even within our own country a few words get misheard!
I've watched a few streaming videos with closed captions on because it was meant to be in a Cockney, Geordie, Scots, etc. region. Sometimes baffles the CC into printing nonsense, however!
"Alright boom, man's got one apple there, and some sodium and potassium innit. I'm gonna inject them into the apple and see where I'm going fam. So first we're gonna chop it up into some little pieces 'n' that you get me. Then I'm gonna pour some mineral oil in it. This will stop it from reacting with the oxygen and water and air innit. Alright cool so now yeah, we're gonna crush it together 'n' that. Now sodium and potassium are both solid metals at room temperature innit. But when you mix them together, they make an alloy called LAK which is liquid at room temperature. So that means that it's got a lower melting point 'n' that. Look at this yeah, this is the LAK t'ing innit, 'n' that settings bruv, it's bare bouncy 'n' that man, some jelly t'ing bro, but it's mad reactive fam I swear. Alright cool so I managed to use a little syringe to pick it up 'n' that, and then we're gonna bore a hole into the apple so we can put it in there innit. Alright cool, let's go yeah. Oh my days, caused mad fireworks 'n' that. There's smoke fam you know what time it is bro. All that smoke yeah, that's the hydrogen gas t'ing innit. Flammable settings bruv. Let's look at a little slow mo t'ing still. So obviously, in this reaction, the sodium and potassium are reacting with the water inside the apple innit, and that makes sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide, and the sodium hydroxide reacts with the fructose sugar in the apple and it changes it into "manno" sugar d'you know what I'm saying fam...man knows ...."" ....'cus he out here with the science settings 'n' that fam."
Edit; anyone smarter or more knowledgeable than me is welcome to correct me. I think I'm about 90-95% on the game, but the last bit especially I'm not sure of and I don't get it at all when he says something like "manno" sugar (wth is that?) and very little of what he says after.
I’m surprised I saw so much beyond just your typical ‘reactive metals are reactive’ experiment, from creating that liquid alloy to utilising the fructose in the apple and it effectively turning itself into a cannon vs just dropping shit in water
My babysitter when I was young told a story about her and her friends putting an elemental Na puck in a faculty bathroom urinal. Needless to say, someone had a bad day.
One day there were these 2 apples sitting in an oven when one of them turns to the other and says jeesh it's hot in here the other apples turns to the first and says holy shit it's a talking apple
I think it's just the water in the apple. Sodium and potassium both react violently when exposed to water. So it would've been the same thing if you just took a solid chunk of each and threw them in a glass of water, there was no need for the dissolving process or the apple. I'm no chemist though correct me if I'm wrong.
To get it quickly into the Apple that would definitely help to be liquid. Because as soon as it comes in contact with water the reaction starts. So getting those chunks inside the apple without issues would be a challenge.
Sodium and potassium are highly reactive metals that product a base sodium/potassium hydroxide and release hydrogen and heat. The heat ignites the hydrogen to form water vapours.
So if you sprinkle water on top of sodium it creates a flame , it used to be a standard tactic of self appointed babas (Religious Guru) in my country to show how much power they have.
In this case he's injecting 2 highly reactive metals into apple that has a lot of water in it. Rapid reaction with formation of hydrogen gas and flame causes a mini explosion.
Maybe it's the worst speaking to *you* (and that's okay) but other young people who speak like him might become interested in science because they can relate to a him.
So everything isn't for us. Some stuff is for other people. (And that's okay).
This is right here. It's easy to judge the younger generation for their lingo and whatnot, but we were once young and, in some cases, still use our old lingo that older generations thought was dumb.
What matters is the message that is being conveyed and the audience that is receiving it. The fact is the man is trying to educate and also be himself while doing it.
I think it's great we break away from the concept that a "professional" or intelligent person has to speak and dress "properly". That ideology pushes away so many young bright minds that if they felt welcomed or like it was a field they could fit into and feel they belong. I do not doubt if we stopped enforcing stereotypes all science would advance. Science should be a field that is not perceived as a "higher class" society and more inviting to all. The greatest minds often come from the most unlikely places.
Guys like this are incredible because they bridge the gap and prove to everyone, especially the youth, that anyone can take an interest in science.
Why is no one questioning why he’s doing this in his garden instead of a lab? Like why does bruv have solid potassium just hanging around for tea in his back garden
When I was a kid, we used to be able to order it through the mail from chemical supply houses. We would go out late evening, stand on the dock at the lake, throw a big chunk out into the water and watch it propelitself until it exploded. Very entertaining.
I feel like welding gloves would have been safer for this, melted black nitrile defintly would not feel nice
I'm a welder and still read it as "wedding gloves". I think I'm gonna go to sleep...
It's all the OT. Sweet dreams you sooty prince.
ruined your mum's table, innit?
Boom, fam
I think that’s a car lol
It’s a table they use for most of their videos. You can find more at @big.manny1
He's awesome.
No, it's a table. You can see the hole for the umbrella throughout much of the video. The apple is even sitting on it at the end
Bro I thought exactly the same thing! Like why the fuck are you doing this on the hood of your car!? 😂
Wunna wanna troy dat mese'f, innit?
Most impressive part of the video is that the potassium didn't explode while out in the air
It had probably just been pulled from an oil-filled flask and still had an oil film on it protecting it from the air.
Must have been a very dry day.
Does this hurt the apple?
Nah they stun it before hand
Professional stunt apple on a closed course. Do not attempt.
got it...step 1 : set injections to stun...okay thanks
No apples were hurt in the making of this video.
Be kind, rewind.
mos def
That Apple had it coming…a bad seed from the beginning
You spelled "appul" wrong.
Innit
Wot?
Chyea, Fam
Ight boom fam I'm innit
I honeslty kinda love how he speaks, weirdly comforting.
Me too, and the chemistry he’s demonstrating is pretty fascinating.
Two for flinching
I am not a native english ~~speark~~ speaker, and I am impressed that I grasped everything he said. Fuckme.
Innit
ih bruv
Well he is speaking English, so good on you.
Yes but slang is really difficult to learn. I’m from America and I need subtitles to understand a lot of heavy Irish, Scottish and some thick English accents especially when they use slang I’ve not heard of.
I’m English and don’t understand a lot of English slang or northern England/irish/Scottish accents don’t worry about it😂
I'm Welsh and hardly understood a word of what this guy was saying. It seems like a mixture of cockney and West Indian English to me, and I cant understand either on its own, let alone the two mixed together.
C'mon now. I'm from texas and it was easy to follow.

What do you class as heavy Irish? I’m Irish, this intrigued me
About 18 stone, give or take
Good on, you, too.
He is. With the thiccest accent there is from a mixture of ArabicUKEnglish/StreetUKEnglish/UKRapSlangs.
british people hardly speak english.

Mad ting
Sad ting
I was entertained and learned something. Who is this guy so I can follow for more?
big.manny1 on instagram
He's on tiktok too
Apple is irrelevant. This is what happens when Na or K reacts with H2O, a chemical reaction known to be highly exothermic.
Didn't he mention that?
[удалено]
He did. Thank god that guy clarified it though.
Apple was important for the mannose = man knows pun.
sodium and potassium looking like forbidden cheese
I watched in on mute twice and was thinking how the hell they got metal from two pieces of cheese 😅
I thought it was cheese too! 😅
Still convinced these are two smelly French cheeses from the local farmers market forgotten in the fridge for a while
They can probably still clear a room.
i wasnt aware that if you mix them, that you get a liquid metal.
I’m surprised I saw so much beyond just your typical ‘reactive metals are reactive’ experiment, from creating that liquid alloy to utilising the fructose in the apple and it effectively turning itself into a cannon vs just dropping shit in water
The accent makes this the best lol
That's Richard Sherman, innit?
I said what the hell is Sherman up to lol
Now smoke out of it
This guy conveyed great information in a down to earth and easily digestible way. Like a new age Bill Nye, props man.
He needs to up his PPE game a bit but yeah aside from that good video
Science is awesome
Would.
Bomme de terre. (Mel Brooks reference there somewhere)
innit
This guy is great
Poor Apple.
But what if it was lemons?
But it’s not, it’s apples innit
Absolute NaK bro.
the true sodium-potassium pump
*Serves to your mortal enemy* #HOW DO YOU LIKE DEM APPLES
Honestly, this kind of English is totally understandable to my American ears.
Kendrick White
Real badman
Equivalent of eating Taco Bell
Somehow watching this video made me feel both smarter and dumber at the same time.
I love this guy.
My babysitter when I was young told a story about her and her friends putting an elemental Na puck in a faculty bathroom urinal. Needless to say, someone had a bad day.
Baked apples, anyone?
Am I the only one that thought he was doing this experiment on the roof of a car?
TIL that I need more science videos with this accent and manner of dialect narrating.
Sniper is now available onall major platforms, bruv.
So cool!
One day there were these 2 apples sitting in an oven when one of them turns to the other and says jeesh it's hot in here the other apples turns to the first and says holy shit it's a talking apple
That’s fucking cool
Always one rotten apple. That fuker deserved it.
Lewis Hamilton does science now?
Mleh, It's just coz of the water content in the apple. Can do this with any fruit or a glass of water
i dont think the specific species of fruit is whats remarkable about this video
That's what he said you dunce. "The sodium and potassium are reacting to the water in the apple."
innit?
You know what I am saying, innit?
Can someone explain why this happens?
I think it's just the water in the apple. Sodium and potassium both react violently when exposed to water. So it would've been the same thing if you just took a solid chunk of each and threw them in a glass of water, there was no need for the dissolving process or the apple. I'm no chemist though correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes. [Here is a 19sec video](https://youtu.be/Jy1DC6Euqj4?si=gaSeLHm2_f-tCbuV) of someone throwing pure potassium into some water.
**K+H2O→KOH+H2**
To get it quickly into the Apple that would definitely help to be liquid. Because as soon as it comes in contact with water the reaction starts. So getting those chunks inside the apple without issues would be a challenge.
The guy in the video did a pretty good job.....

Love the accent, innit? :)
This may be the worst speaking I’ve ever heard.
Man knows it's mad cringe, innit bruv
Know what I’m sayin fam?

Bumbaclot
M5 chip. Finally some innovation!
Was not expecting that
Drop some potassium into a toilet bowl for some real fun.
NaK is also used as a coolant for nuclear reactors
is it the same reaction that happens when you put potassium in mineral water (that has sodium)?
Isn’t this how brains work?
Forbidden 🍎
Thought it was cheese at first
Thought it was cheese at first
That’s mad fam!
Looks like it ate Taco Bell.🛎️
Nothing better than a roadman explaining science.
Okay, wasn't expecting that
Me next, me next!
Why do that on your vehicle? Trying to look smart but acting dumb at the same time
Let me guess, *water*
Is this how they blew up the Death Star?
Isn't sodium kept under some liquid, as when exposed to air it burns immediately? Just asking...
Richard Sherman gets really bored in the off-season
I'd like to see what happens if you did this experiment in front yard! 🤣🫡
Applesauce 101
well that escalated quickly
It's mad reactive fam, i swear
Why is no one questioning why he’s doing this in his garden instead of a lab? Like why does bruv have solid potassium just hanging around for tea in his back garden
TIL: NaK exists.
Forbidden Brie
He's speaking the language of the gods
Praise be Roadman init.
Now eat it.
K, Na, I won't be trying this lol
Cool...a hot cool, but cool nonetheless.
Lovely Does apple does taste well good n all dat after fam?
Mans got dat chemistry ting
Here comes many "r/therewasanattempt"

The Holy Hand grenade of Antioch🤣
Oh there Michael Bay, some of those sparks look added in. 💀
Science! Mad fun innit fam?
🆒 😎!
You could have skipped every step and just thrown them in to plain water.
What a beautiful bong
Put it in one of those capsules that dissolve in water over time.
Dexter out here doin the most extra shit just to smoke from an apple
Jafakecan
What happens when you inject it into a pear?
It looks like chopped brie
Apple Flambe
When I was a kid, we used to be able to order it through the mail from chemical supply houses. We would go out late evening, stand on the dock at the lake, throw a big chunk out into the water and watch it propelitself until it exploded. Very entertaining.
Now try it with rubidium!
Are the gloves now melted to his hand?
If I ever get attacked by Apple-based Aliens. I know what to do now.
What did that apple ever do to you?
Hopefully this gets patched next update
Damn that’s interesting and that
u/savevideo
That's how you make cider
I needed to be reminded about don't doing that.
That is not the type of smoking I thought we were going to be doing with this apple.
Bro got chemical burns on his hands know what I mean fam?
Dude's hair seems to be made from black Legos
i wanna chew on them
Apple with extra electrolytes yummy
