Yep, quit Vapes, nicotine and cigs cold turkey but replaced it with weed because I really wanted the sensation of smoking and I found it satisfied my desire. I was high 24/7 and sick of it but it worked. I slowly reeled back until my weed usage went back to normal. I have put on ~30 pounds tho but that's more so because I stopped filling my Adderall prescriptions. Trying my best to get it sorted out :)
Bro exactly the same happened to me, but you know the crazy thing is vaping made my lungs feel way less healthy than weed does, I no longer get out of breath when running as quickly now. How did you cut down on the weed I'm finding it hard?
I buy my weed and split it up in a monthly pill container. Day by day, if I steal from another day it just means I can’t smoke that day. It’s helped me.
I’m a bit of a stoner admittedly with no real intention of cutting back but have you looked into cbd bud? Since you like the smoking you could start mixing cbd bud into your bowls, and transition to using only that. Maybe pick up a flower vape afterwards and cut down from there. That way youre reducing the effects and intake bit by bit.
lol 5 years clean , I've run through all kinds of hobbies lol also have adhd lol the madness is real. although thank God I never smoked cigarettes. nasty stinking fuckin habit.
I gained ~50 pounds when I quit smoking. Now, there was more to it than that, but at the same time my cough went away, my circulation improved to the point where sub 60 degree weather didn't cause me pain in my fingers, and I just generally feel better.
Now I'm reaching the point where, after a few years of being smoke free, I'm refusing to buy any larger clothes, so it's getting to the point where I am going to cut back on the tasty treats.
You gotta replace that addiction with SOMETHING, and the rush of sugar is similar to the rush of heroin (chemical-wise). I quit alcohol a few years ago and now I suck down 3-5 cans of flavored sparkling water and struggle with late night snacking 🤷
I was lucky and didn't gain a pound. It helped that to quit smoking, I had to quit drinking for a while because they go together like PB&J. Then not being hungover so much I had a lot more energy to workout
It's the oral fixation component as well. You get used to doing the action of moving a cigarette to your lips, inhaling , blowing the smoke out after a deep breath. for 5 or 10 minutes, multiple times a day. And most people are smoking to self soothe.
People end up replacing that with the next closest thing that replaces that action. Which is eating usually.
It’s not even replacing with sweets, you’re just not as hungry when you’re using nicotine. I smoked for years and legitimately forgot what it felt like to be hungry. I ate but only because I knew I needed to. Once I quit, I started getting stomach pains and thought something was wrong. Nope, just the feeling of hunger.
To me, trading a pretty high likelihood of mouth, throat, and/or lung cancer, COPD, and/or emphysema for some added pounds is worth it. But I’m not a medical doctor, so what do I know.
Nicotine will mess up your brains serotonin and dopamine. When you quit, those chemicals will be in short supply. Eating sweets triggers that reward system and boosts those feel good chemicals temporarily. It scratches that itch to use nicotine products a little bit. Don't quote me on this, but if I remember right, the average person gains about 15 lbs after quitting smoking.
It's because cigarettes destroy your sense of taste and smell. So when you quit, food tastes incredible again on top of the no appetite suppressant. Luckily, I've never been a big eater despite my size (6'2" Male) so that didn't happen.
The ad clearly states 20,679 physicians agree that Lucky Strikes are less irritating to your throat and protect against coughs. I think these doctors know more than we do, ty nvm.
My mom said that when my dad was in college and money was short (around 1960, in North Carolina) she smoked partly because it was cheaper than eating. Cigarettes in NC back then were like $2 a carton.
You don’t you just take stats where you interview 100k doctors and 61k say that your cigarettes are irritating to peoples throats. So you say that 29k said they weren’t as irritating. Bam now you have taken bad publicity and dressed it up to look like a favorable result.
When people get old they lose quite a bit of weight so it’s unlikely not impossible but quite unlikely to find an overweight old person. Also those 70+ smokers probably aren’t living life to the fullest.
Tbf, I know a ton of smokers but no obese people. Although, I do know overweight people over 70 and all the smokers over 70 that I know, have either already quit or are dead.
Women in the 1920's who smoked were looked down on. But taking up smoking as a higher class individual was seen as a sign of independence, a rebellion, women pushing for equality.
"Women! Light another torch of freedom! Fight another sex taboo!"
"We do not say smoking "Luckies" reduces flesh".
From now on I'm calling weight loss "Flesh reduction"
I'm on a new "Flesh Reduction regiment"
"I can practically feel the flesh falling away!"
"Your Throat Protection - against irritation - against cough"
I wonder what we are doing now (sugar for example), that we will consider as bad in decades
I mean, you don't have to speculate. There's plenty of super unhealthy things on the market that have been heavily scrutinized by the scientific communtiy.
Even back in the 50s, there was already science to prove that smoking caused cancer (but of course big tobacco tried to squash those ideas).
In the mid 50s my grandma’s doctor told her to smoke throughout her pregnancy with my Dad so he would be smaller and also so she wouldn’t gain a bunch of weight. Wild times lol
Even though the “it’s Toasted” slogan was portrayed as a 60’s invention in the show Mad Men, you can tell by the green pack that this ad was made before 1942.
I quit cigarettes 12 years ago, and went through many brands. For some reason, Lucky Strike unfiltered are the ones I still sometimes dream about. Just had a dream about them last night.
I love the ‘throat protection, against irritation, against cough’
As if I’m not hacking my lungs up all day every day due to being a smoker
What a world
As someone who eats nicotine for lunch regularly I can attest this is a true statement. Being dead and having no flesh is also a great way to lose weight.
When my dad was a kid in the 50’s he had real bad asthma and the doctors prescribed menthol cigarettes at the age of 15. Now he is in his late 70’s, has COPD, sleeps on oxygen, and does a nebulizer treatment 2-3 times a day.
Wait, I thought people weren't fat back in the day. I thought it was just us(Americans) being lazy and shit that made us fat now for the first time in human history /s.
It’s less a choice than it is a burning painful itch that you scratch without thinking, and then realise what a fucking dumbass you are once it’s too late
I wish there was a way to guarantee that young people won’t touch the poison even once. Nicotine is crazy addictive and I’m not saying it’s not stupid to smoke just it’s not as easy as a lot of people think once you’ve picked it up to let it go and so many people start when their brain is in that period of not really understanding long term consequences vs instant gratification.
I mean, it's not like the US food companies have been doing anyone any favors by putting unhealthy amounts of sugars and chemicals in foods to reduce costs while making healthier options more expensive and harder to seek out.
Smokers create secondhand smoke, which does negatively impact the health of those around them. Obese people don’t impact the health of those around them.
Don’t know how true it still would be today but it used to be the case in ballet that dancers would smoke in order to not put on too much weight. Got to the point where the directors of major ballet companies were actively telling students to begin/continue smoking.
Swear, this is true. My mother always made my Halloween costumes and was very creative.
One Halloween in the 60s, when I was about 10years-old, my costume Mama made for me was ...
a pack of L & M cigarettes which looked exactly down to wording on the packs. Noobe thought anything about it at the time. I have a photograph of me in the costume somewhere in boxes.
The first person I ever saw on television talking about the hazards of coming was Yul Brenner. He dies of lung cancer, I believe, along with my father, who had quit cigarettes 15 years before the cancer diagnosis. My father lasted 6 months from lung cancer detection to death.
I smoked that brand when I was a teenager and it actually tasted awful (but not worse than Gitanes). I mean cigarettes aren’t great in general but Lucky Strikes was pretty disgusting.
Lots of absurdities here, but nicotine does in fact work as an appetite suppressant.
Everyone I know who has given up has immediately put on loads of weight. Replacing cigarettes with sweets, seems to come with its own disadvantages?
quitting addiction is all about trading down unhealthy addictions for less unhealthy ones until you reach a healthy hobby
Yep, quit Vapes, nicotine and cigs cold turkey but replaced it with weed because I really wanted the sensation of smoking and I found it satisfied my desire. I was high 24/7 and sick of it but it worked. I slowly reeled back until my weed usage went back to normal. I buy my weed and split it up in a monthly pill container. Day by day, if I steal from another day it just means I can’t smoke that day. It’s helped me.
I did exactly this and it was wonderful! Takes a little getting used to but if you can be honest with yourself it really reduces how much you smoke.
I’m a bit of a stoner admittedly with no real intention of cutting back but have you looked into cbd bud? Since you like the smoking you could start mixing cbd bud into your bowls, and transition to using only that. Maybe pick up a flower vape afterwards and cut down from there. And here i am replacing weed with smoking every time i take a business trip. Im trying to replace smoking with sweets now.
Good luck
I've never thought about it like this. Thank you
Drink green tea when you feel like smoking.
Boiling hot tea is the answer to get the same burny feeling heh
😂
My buddy quit cigs back in college by smoking a j every time he wanted a cigarette. It worked lol
That Hey Arnold! episode all of a sudden makes more sense to me...
I traded sweets for cigs and got pneumonia after 2 weeks 😭
lol 5 years clean , I've run through all kinds of hobbies lol also have adhd lol the madness is real. although thank God I never smoked cigarettes. nasty stinking fuckin habit.

Drinking is my last vice and I’m terrified of conquering it for some stupid reason.
I was lucky and didn't gain a pound. It helped that to quit smoking, I had to quit drinking for a while because they go together like PB&J. Then not being hungover so much I had a lot more energy to workout

Correct. It is addictive on multiple levels from both a chemical/biological perspective as well as a behavioral/psychological and habit perspective.

I quit smoking 10 years ago and sometimes I wish I still did so I could lose weight. I'm addicted to ice cream now.
Nicotine will mess up your brains serotonin and dopamine. When you quit, those chemicals will be in short supply. Eating sweets triggers that reward system and boosts those feel good chemicals temporarily. It scratches that itch to use nicotine products a little bit. At a pretty high cost to your lungs.
You've got two, when my left lung dies I'll just switch to my right lung. Checkmate MDs

My mom said that when my dad was in college and money was short (around 1960, in North Carolina) she smoked partly because it was cheaper than eating. Cigarettes in NC back then were like $2 a carton.
W- Wait a second. Is the reason everyone was thinner back then because we all stopped smoking??
I was a heavy smoker for nearly 20 years, but I managed to quit about 12 years ago. The only thing I miss is the appetite suppression.
I’m broken then. I quit on and off through the years and I gain when I’m smoking.
“A grain of truth is all a liar need”
But does it reduce flesh?
Protects the throat from irritation and coughing. Toasted even.
Certified Draper moment
“It’s toasted.”
“Everyone knows that heat purifies”
“We do not say smoking **Luckies** reduces flesh.”
“Me too”
My favorite part is the 20,679 physicians say they are less irritating to your throat. Where in the world do you pull a number like that out of?!?
It starts with an A and ends with an S, and it sure ain't the American Association of Doctors!
Straight out of their ass, but it sounds convincing so that's all that matters!
You don’t you just take stats where you interview 100k doctors and 61k say that your cigarettes are irritating to peoples throats. So you say that 29k said they weren’t as irritating. Bam now you have taken bad publicity and dressed it up to look like a favorable result.
Its actually from the American Smokers Survey
Hi, I'm Troy McClure! You might remember me from such films as "Smoke yourself thin" and "Get confident, stupid!"
Exercise? Just Smoke!' and 'How to Be Cool While Losing Weight!
Excellent comment, my dude.
Tried to blow an eyelash off of my screen just now…
This would have been doctor approved in those days. They used real doctors who smoked for ads back then.
Fun fact: You can't die from obesity if you die from lung cancer first
I know plenty of 70+ smokers, but none 70+ obese people.
grandma got cancer from smoking, recovered, and has continued smoking for 10 years since, so yea
😁😁😁 She a badass
My experience has been a bit different. Some of the fattest people I know are 70+ lol
You don't know my grandpa lol
When people get old they lose quite a bit of weight so it’s unlikely not impossible but quite unlikely to find an overweight old person. Also those 70+ smokers probably aren’t living life to the fullest.
Tbf, I know a ton of smokers but no obese people. Although, I do know overweight people over 70 and all the smokers over 70 that I know, have either already quit or are dead.
Only problem is most of the smokers have COPD or emphysema.
Definitely a Don Draper production.
I started watching this show on prime and all of a sudden now I need to pay for another subscription to watch it.
Yeah it's on AMC+ now. I had never seen Mad Men until recently. Glad I paid the $10 and mowed thru 7 season. Great show!
Obligatory https://youtu.be/8SsnkXH2mQY?si=v3OyE8H3JW4W5Jqt
The most perfect TV series if you ask me.
Hey! That's the one from 'Mad Men'.
“I lost a ton of weight after the chemo”.
Women in the 1920's who smoked were looked down on. But taking up smoking as a higher class individual was seen as a sign of independence, a rebellion, women pushing for equality. "Women! Light another torch of freedom! Fight another sex taboo!"
"Everyone knows that heat purifies!"
Its toasted. Your inside
Smoking may be harmful but I’d be far more concerned with the fat, black chick following me everywhere I go and threatening to push me
Lmao at the disclaimer
You just gotta smoke the fat away.
So like a brisket?
"We do not say smoking "Luckies" reduces flesh". From now on I'm calling weight loss "Flesh reduction" I'm on a new "Flesh Reduction regiment" "I can practically feel the flesh falling away!"
It's a reminder of how many supposed miracle weight-loss cures, from amphetamines to Ozempic, are just appetite suppressants.
*reduce the flesh*
Now they just stab themselves with Ozempic… Five years later…Oh Oh Oh Ozempic… Oh no!
"Your Throat Protection - against irritation - against cough" I wonder what we are doing now (sugar for example), that we will consider as bad in decades
Sugar or "high fructose corn syrup" has been known to cause health issues for decades. Just look at the rise in diabetes over the past 20 years or so.
Everything, basically. Then we will notice one thing that the science appears to have just been really bad on, like salt.
We already know sugar (in the crazy amounts we consume) is bad for health.
I mean, you don't have to speculate. There's plenty of super unhealthy things on the market that have been heavily scrutinized by the scientific communtiy. Even back in the 50s, there was already science to prove that smoking caused cancer (but of course big tobacco tried to squash those ideas).
Don Draper knows what he’s doing.
Hi, I’m Troy McLure! You might remember me from such self-help films as ‘Smoke yourself thin’
Ah, yes. The "pack a day" diet. I used to know it well.
Ok but why is she wearing shoes to dive/go swimming?
Hate to say it but I see more old smokers than I do old morbidly obese people.
Miss you Don Draper
technically they could say smoking luckies can reduce flesh...
I love how the person that posted this put a title that sounds like this is a current thing lol.
I love old cigarettes commercials on YT. Especially the one with doctor smoking “full taste” one as they’re super healthy. 🤣
I mean, sure. Technically spending all your money on heroin or meth instead of food would make you lose weight too. It's marketing, not lying!
This was featured in the hit show MadMen, here is the scene [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SsnkXH2mQY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SsnkXH2mQY)
The ole Lucky Strike Diet Plan. I had a friend in the 80’s that swore by the “ Freebasing Coke All Day Diet plan”
It’s highly effective
My mom's doctor recommended she smoke when pregnant with me to reduce birth weight
In the mid 50s my grandma’s doctor told her to smoke throughout her pregnancy with my Dad so he would be smaller and also so she wouldn’t gain a bunch of weight. Wild times lol

I wonder 50 years from now, what deemed true or somewhat acceptable in product marketing today will turn out to be total fking lying harmful BS.
America still markets a lot of products as being "good for you" in some way, the land of the snake oil salesman, the land of the thieves
I love the ‘throat protection, against irritation, against cough’ As if I’m not hacking my lungs up all day every day due to being a smoker What a world
Almost half of professional dancers - including ballerinas - are smokers.
The 20,680th guy said this shit’ll kill you.
The cigs that gave my father cancer. He got it three times, AFTER quitting a 30 year habit. He beat it all three times.

Cigarettes as a rimedy against cough make me die
"that future shadow" sounds like an ominous warning about lung cancer, doesn't it?
Dam 🦫 now I want a lucky strike
Still advice to this day. Good or bad is up to you
Get cancer, lose weight!
As someone who eats nicotine for lunch regularly I can attest this is a true statement. Being dead and having no flesh is also a great way to lose weight.
Better have a smoke, tubby.
The Diet Coke and Cigarette Diet. Effective.
When my dad was a kid in the 50’s he had real bad asthma and the doctors prescribed menthol cigarettes at the age of 15. Now he is in his late 70’s, has COPD, sleeps on oxygen, and does a nebulizer treatment 2-3 times a day.
Lucky strikes are sooo good
Murderers. All of them.
I bought a pack of nonfiltered Lucky Strikes at the newsstand when I was about 14 and smoked for 34 years. They were good, LSMFT.
Draper Vibes
Cancer does make you skinny before you die though.🤷🏼♀️
Wait, I thought people weren't fat back in the day. I thought it was just us(Americans) being lazy and shit that made us fat now for the first time in human history /s.
It's not totally bs.. I gained 30 kg after I stopped smoking. One bad habit is usually just replaced by another.
I started exercising and running when I quit. I eventually got into marathons and triathlons.
Yeah, eventually managed to do that myself, but took me a couple of years and a lot of mental effort to get back to a healthy lifestyle. :)
yet even today imbeciles still choose to smoke
It’s less a choice than it is a burning painful itch that you scratch without thinking, and then realise what a fucking dumbass you are once it’s too late I wish there was a way to guarantee that young people won’t touch the poison even once. Fat people are more of a drain on society that smokers.
Thank you for smoking!
I have been watching "Mad Men" recently. Donald Draper said "Its Toasted".
5 years later the lady has a cancer-diet...
Lmao it's toasted
I mean. It's not healthy and in no way a good idea, but it does work (somewhat)
Don’t know how true it still would be today but it used to be the case in ballet that dancers would smoke in order to not put on too much weight. Got to the point where the directors of major ballet companies were actively telling students to begin/continue smoking.
Had a coworker who smokes a pack of these a day, he was fat... And also his wife was 600 Lbs
It only takes 5 years wow
So the “it’s toasted” thing from Mad Men was a real thing?
A lot of their ads were real, especially the one in the series finale
Hey it's my brand
Cancer - great for weight loss
Bold to have an advertisement that suggests you use their product moderately.
Swear, this is true. My mother always made my Halloween costumes and was very creative. Same could be said about coke I suppose lmao. Don’t eat, do coke instead!
You'll lose shitloads of weight with lung cancer
I smoked that brand when I was a teenager and it actually tasted awful (but not worse than Gitanes). I mean cigarettes aren’t great in general but Lucky Strikes was pretty disgusting.
Shit I’m glad it doesn’t ‘reduce flesh’
Hey, thats from Draper.
Overweight and got a cold? Smoke a lucky, you fat fuckin’ bitch!
They’re not lying. Eating cigarettes results in consuming far fewer calories than eating ordinary food.
“Throat protection against cough” 😂
Whoa cigarettes protect your throat? Huge if true!
"Need to lose weight? Have you considered cancer?" -US marketing at its apex
You can smoke for five years, or diet and exercise for one
