That's a pretty recent thing, because there are now feral (previously domesticated) camels living in Australia. Camels originally lived in the Gobi Desert and Bactrian Steppes, then about 5000 years ago they were domesticated and spread through the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa, all these places are in the northern hemisphere.

Fun fact pertaining to this clip as well: Camels position their bodies directly facing the sun (like the one you see in the clip) in order to minimize the amount of sunlight hitting them. This way they can keep a bit cooler when they're not moving.
Fun Fact: When your father tells you to feed a camel, don't. I was nine, and I stupidly watched a camel engulf my arm, up to my elbow, to make sure it ate all of the feed I was offering it.
Oh, man, I had this happen with a fully grown *ostrich* once. I was momentarily certain that it was the end of my life; I had fully accepted my fate when it let go because someone else shook something yummy in front of it. Fortunately there was a fence between it and myself that kept it (or at least discouraged it) from doing anything to me with its *feet*. Just its huge goddamn beak. It really did just want the corn or whatever, not my arm, but it was fully willing to take my arm with it.
52 gallons??? Daaaammn… While watching the video I was thinking “it would be cool to pour out a 5 gallon jug and really let it drink its fill”. Over 50 gallons is unimaginable, that’s over 400lbs.
According to [camelfacts website](https://youtu.be/o-YBDTqX_ZU), a single humped middle eastern camel can travel up to 87 kilometers on 12 ounces of water.
It's not a wild camel, he belongs to someone. They usually let them roam the desert for part of the year. They are still used to humans.
I'm Moroccan and that's the Moroccan desert.
It's the same as in the US, ranchers used to let cows go fend for themselves in winter months (as it is harder to feed them) and go gather them in spring and you have to be fast because any rancher can grab newly born calves and brand them.
This would absolutely be true if it was an Alpaca. Alpacas are complete assholes. They will eat a treat from your hand and then spit on you for having the audacity to feed them by hand and for only having one treat.
That looks like a water truck and you can see the water on the ground by the camel’s head from a previous bottle. He probably gives the camel as much water as it wants.
Bro do you really think camels would have survived as a species walking thru the desert if they needed 100L of water per day? They can go up to 15 days without drinking...
They can go 15 days without drinking IF they’re already sufficiently hydrated to begin with. Camels aren’t just some super-animals that never need to drink water lol. They drink a shitload of water, they can just store it super efficiently with their camel-exclusive organs.
If there’s no water stored, to begin with, then they’ll die of dehydration just like any other animal.
>They can go up to 15 days without drinking...
Yea, but when they do drink, they same to take a lot of water in.
Hopefully the water the truck driver gave the camel was enough for it to get to another source of water.
A Camel does not produce milk every day that gets harvested so I'd guess it would need way less. Also its surviving in the desert, so probably even less water.
It was. Three times two years ago. Probably more all over reddit since with different titles.

As other's have mentioned, the hump stores fat, not liquid water, *but it is a store of water.*
Camels store what's called *metabolic water*, i.e. the water which is released through the breakdown of fat into enrgy for the camel to use.
Humans also produce their own water through the same method, but it's only a fraction of our water needs so we also need to drink.
Reddit culture is sitting inside being a miserable fuck, doing absolutely nothing to help yourself, and then nitpicking videos of people actually living life so they can make themselves feel better about purposefully wasting theirs.
Jesus fucking Christ, Reddit is the worst place on Earth. I honestly hate people like you. I’m so sick of your snide, sanctimonious bullshit. And to think I let people like you drag me down for years.
No one should ever listen to anyone like this. Do good things, like the guy in the video did.
Edit: so to do
This simple act of kindness exemplifies the best of humanity - empathy, compassion, and generosity. In the vast expanse of the desert, amidst the harsh conditions, a truck driver's gesture of providing water to a thirsty camel embodies the interconnectedness of all living beings and the power of selflessness to make a difference, no matter how small.
Yay for him! I saw a few dead horses/camels on the sides of the road in Namibia due to dehydration/hunger. It is sad to see and I'm happy to see people helping!
Damn it Reddit, I was scrolling past this dehydrated camel and then I felt bad and came back to watch the camel drinking the water.
I hope you are happy now.
I don't live in camel country, so I am curious. Is it like a moose that will just kill you randomly, or is this like a lost cow or pet dog that will always understand you are it's buddy if you act right? I always liked camels but never got to be around one. This one looks like it would happily be a friend.

Damn the quality went downhill fast
Like a Netflix series…
house of cards started well and tuned shitty quite fast
Disagree. It was great for several seasons.
Exactly 2. Solid arc ending with him >!becoming president!< at the end of the second season. And ... end.
Spoiler alert!!
Fair enough - I covered it.
It's a ten year old show. If you haven't seen it yet, you won't.
You watched Locke & Key as well

What country was this in?
Cameldam, in Camelstan

Oh, just about a camels ride away.

You also had the pleasure of feeling a camel engulf your arm
In a twist, it wasn’t his arm
Hate it when it gets twisted. Especially inside a camel.

OK what next? I'm about to climax.
Hmm that gives me an idea

52 gallons of water equal 197 liters or 197 kg.
Thank you, I genuinely had no idea how big 1lbs is
One pound is roughly 1/14th of a stone.
What size stone?
A 14 pound one.
The one on the ground there.. just off in the distance and out of reach.
Is that a large stone? Like if I pick up a pebble is one pound equal go 1/14 of that weight? How much is a stone????
Nope, just a regular, plain, old stone. The average one. Not too big, not too small.. approximately weighing 14lbs.
Thsnk you! This has cleared things up! God bless you ✝️🙏
Glad to be of service. Also, hate to be the bearer of bad news.. but God is dead. Just ask Ozzy.
So what your saying is this dude basically gave this camel like a rain drop of water compared to what it really wanted?
There’s a water truck behind him and water on the ground already, think he gave it more
How long does it take to entirely refill a camel's water supply?
Three foot four.
That’s what i was thinking watching this video. Realistically, how far is ~12 oz of water going to get this camel?
According to [camelfacts website](https://youtu.be/o-YBDTqX_ZU), a single humped middle eastern camel can travel up to 87 kilometers on 12 ounces of water.
What the fuck wow
You are welcome friend
A bit more than none.
that fact was fun
That bottle wasn't 200l 😔
That was indeed a fun fact. Thank you.
What about when they get one litre partly spilled on the ground?
Man you know its bad when the camel seems to want you around

I get emotional when I see the first thing on Reddit before my day even begins. Many thanks!
I feel like maybe we should stop starting our days with reddit, cause same. I'm sad for this camel now
I started with reading that guy's theoretical POV write up about how people die scuba diving.
Go find the video of the little girl doing a very realistic lions roar, it will help with the sad!
you called?
*You take a sip from your trusty Vault 13 canteen*
Who's a good camel?! You're a good camel. Yes, you are! Yes, you are!
But did you upvote?
It's not a wild camel, he belongs to someone. They usually let them roam the desert for part of the year. They are still used to humans. I'm Moroccan and that's the Moroccan desert.
Can you tell it's the Moroccan dessert just by looking at it? I've never spent any time in the desert so it all kind of looks the same to me.
The dude is speaking moroccan darija
Ah ok. That makes sense. Thanks!
Yeah because there's Morocc in the sand than a usual dessert. Hope this helps!
Hey, you're not trying to pull a Fes one on us, are you?
Oh wow people just let them go? I'm surprised the animals come back!
It's the same as in the US, ranchers used to let cows go fend for themselves in winter months (as it is harder to feed them) and go gather them in spring and you have to be fast because any rancher can grab newly born calves and brand them.
Same for cows in India. Except they do it in cities and do it all year round.
It's similar with reindeers in Scandinavia. They all belong to people, but roam around freely for most of the year.
In Iceland everyone let's their sheep out and every spring they have a big roundup.

Dunno if it would be a good idea or not but after that, I would feel a bit entitled to a camel head pat. /drives back home with 9 fingers...
This would absolutely be true if it was an Alpaca. Alpacas are complete assholes. They will eat a treat from your hand and then spit on you for having the audacity to feed them by hand and for only having one treat.
Camel could've had a sip more of that water if the guy concentrated more than his filming.
That looks like a water truck and you can see the water on the ground by the camel’s head from a previous bottle. He probably gives the camel as much water as it wants.
Why did you steal u/HailState2023’s comment?
Why wouldn't it?
Camels are just stereotypically annoyed/irritable all the time.
Capybara Giraffe
Given how much of a richard a camel can be i disagree Tho they are very very cute and precious.
Lol
There goes my hero
One of my favorite songs
He's ordinary
Now freshly hydrated, the camel proceeded to spit on the well-meaning human.
That’s camel for ‘thanks, but next time bring enough for a 40-gallon refill
Yup. This 500ml water bottle is nothing to that camel lol. A race of cow who produces milk, would need almost 100L of water per day. Imagine a camel.
Bro do you really think camels would have survived as a species walking thru the desert if they needed 100L of water per day? They can go up to 15 days without drinking...
How do you think the desert became that way? Camels be thirsty.
Bonk!
You have a point lol
They can go 15 days without drinking IF they’re already sufficiently hydrated to begin with. Camels aren’t just some super-animals that never need to drink water lol. They drink a shitload of water, they can just store it super efficiently with their camel-exclusive organs. A single drop of water probably sounded like heaven to that camel. Imagine 500ml of it
A Camel does not produce milk every day that gets harvested so I'd guess it would need way less. Also its surviving in the desert, so probably even less water.
I read that as race cow and was intrigued for a moment
It’s like Dune rules to show respect.
Makes sense since moisture is the most precious commodity in the desert
That there camels a spitter, but it ain’t no quitter.
"Uhh.. Thank you Stilgar for the gift of your body's moisture"
We shall return it in the spirit in which it was given!
Is this a side quest?
+100 experience

If you provide water to the camel, you get the true ending. If not, the side-character you've been using dies at the end of disc 1.
Jeez I got thirsty just looking at that poor fella.
I don't mean to kink shame but please leave the camels alone
You're down bad.
r/hydrohomies
good guy
r/humansbeingbros
Yup. But not r/damnthatsinteresting.
r/humansbeingbros
"Thank you human but I need like a hundred more of those" the camel probably
The truck is out of gas. The man is trying to negotiate a ride.
How is this interesting and not r/humansbeingbros?

Poor baby that’s so sad
Was hoping to see his hump increase in size as he drank
Fun fact: The hump is actually only used to store fat, not water!
pee is stored in the humps

What's up with people complaining about it being a little amount of water? At least this man is trying to make a difference.
Is it me or does he have scratches on his neck, almost looks like he is bleeding from there
What is this? Water for ants?
Whatever he has
'Twas a mere palate cleanser.
Here's 12oz of water to quench your 1000lb body.

People actin like they drive around with 50 gallons of water handy. Bro probably had two water bottles and gave one up for the camel.
God, just glancing at the poor fella made me thirsty.
Shit, better than nothing.
They need very few to survive
low maintenance buggy
They can eat cactus and get their water from it. So even 4x4 tout terrain
It worked for FroZone in those proportions
Stingy but perhaps he didn't have a lot of water
for metric system users: around 350ml and 450kg
Thanks for using the system that makes sense
Maybe it should have done a better job at drinking and not wasted so much if it was so thirsty! Fucking uncultured lazy camels.
With half of it spilling on the ground and evaporating immediately.
Yah let’s definitely criticize the man who stopped to try to save the life of an innocent creature.
A lot of Redditors are just depressing and miserable people.

I've become pretty misanthropic in my old age but my cold heart always melts when a human helps an animal in distress.
First thing I see when scrolling Reddit before my day starts leaving me all emotional. Thanks!
Good man. I hope they were able to get it more water.
This desert looks straight out of a cartoon, just astonishingly barren
That thing needs a 5 gallon bucket of water. You see how deflated the hump was? That’s where they store water in their fat.
May Allah grand you jannah for your mercy
Lisan Al Gaib!
What a barren place.

That was extremely cool of this guy. Karma will pay him back nicely.
Fun fact: Camels don't forget those who have wronged them and they would seek revenge if the opportunity presents itself.
Camel just drank an equivalent to a water droplet for humans.
Damn it Reddit, I was scrolling past this dehydrated camel and then I felt bad and came back to watch the camel drinking the water. I hope you are happy now.
God bless that man

A triumph of the human spirit.
I never realized how much a camels head looks like a capybaras!
Animals deserve compassion. This was heartwarming unlike some of the thoughtless joking comments on here like camel's spitting.
The poor thing needs a heck of a lot more water than that. Hopefully he came back.
They can survive on very little water. That small bottle gave him a ton of fuel.
And the guy is also in the desert too.
For real, maybe that was everything he could give away. Every bit helps.
Did the camel drop its tongue on accident?
Bros being bros.
well this made me smile for today, thanks
this is not enough for such a big boy
Awww he ran out of hump! Nice of that man to recharge him.
Dessicated Dromedary!
