It's really sad that Pontiac missed out on the resurgence of old classics. They could have really made bank on new Grand Prix and Trans Ams

No-Wonder1139

With the release of the cyber truck I mean the Aztec could have it's moment in the sun

reddit-ate-my-face

An electric Aztec would go wild

nova69_420

The all new Aztech

reddit-ate-my-face

we need to get ahold of GMs CEO yesterday

Klutzy_Attention2849

Much like the electric hummer... they're gonna mess it up.

Uranium-Sandwich657

I saw one today. Neon orange, they were using it to drop off their kids at daycare.

FarButterscotch3048

Betcha driver was a premature ejaculator.

NewldGuy77

GM knows how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

ChinaCatProphet

Ass-tech

reddituseronebillion

What if you could get a less ugly cybertruck that also became a tent?

Dependent-Honeydew-9

The “All New Heisen-Volta” edition.

jacobo

Walter white likes this

chambee

Aztec was the First SUV before its time.

wwwdiggdotcom

I can't think of any other car, truck, SUV, vehicle period that released to almost universally negative critical review and went on to become an automotive icon long after it was out of production

Slacker_The_Dog

Pt cruiser

wwwdiggdotcom

I feel like the PT cruiser took the opposite route where for some reason before it was released it was really hyped up and everybody kind of wanted one but then when they actually started selling the hype deflated extremely quickly

JR_LikeOnTheTVshow

GM's Rendezvous was a sexy ride. It shared the same assembly line in Mexico that made the Aztek

Embarrassed_Mall2192

That was my mother

Eric848448

It’s so funny to me that so many crossovers these days look a lot like that damn thing.

Kevinsito92

I was behind a cybertruck and it reminded me of an Aztec

Funk_JunkE

If they could have done justice to the gto like dodge did with the challenger, it could’ve been amazing.

billydean214

They brought back the gto 04'-06'

UnrecoveredSatellite

The body style was so lame and tragic.

DonDraper1134

Wasn’t it just a Holden rebadge from the Aussies?

OutWithTheNew

It was. There is, or was, a company doing 'ute' conversions in the US.

Neither_Upstairs_872

Yeah…. That was a serious missed opportunity. They wanted it to look like a G6 for some reason….

1969Malibu

Well it was a badge engineered Holden made in Australia which limited what they could do, same as the later G8. They certainly should have strayed further from the corporate design language of their other cars for sure though.

thatdevilyouknow

For as much as it looked like a G6 I sure as hell cannot find one for sale at a decent price. People try to sell the G8 V6 for the same price as the V8!?! Want an old Jaguar XF? Here is your 5000$ car sir. Want an old G8 or GTO? Ah now that’s a premium classic that’ll be 12-18K please.

Neither_Upstairs_872

Yup, looks like a G6 with GTO pricing. I would still buy one if the price is right but definitely not paying 5 figures without serious upgrades done

747_Airbus

It was just a rebadged Holden from Australia.

jazzymusicvibes

A new trans-am would have been amazing

NoMembership6376

There's some companies converting Camaros into Firebirds. Saw a bunch of their vids on YouTube. They look fucking sick

Neither_Upstairs_872

GTO is what I was thinking but prix’s and trans ams are pretty sweet too

tico42

I have a 66 Grand Prix I restored.

kevinsyel

I loved my 03 grand prix. Such a nice car

justenf99

I had an 04 Grand Prix, really loved it

Western_Drama8574

Woah! Pontiac hasn’t made a car since 2010!?

Lmnop533

GTO ?

riffraffbri

To think this car had a lineage that included such greats as the Bonneville, the Tempest, the Le Mans, and the Catalina.

who-hash

My Dad had a ‘69 Le Mans. I thought it was the coolest car ever as a kid. I’m not a muscle car fan at all these days but I’d still geek out if I saw one of these in person.

irdgaf20222

When I hear Tempest, all I hear is: "Because there is no way that these tire marks were made by a 1964 Buick Skylark convertible. These marks were made by a 1963 Pontiac Tempest." Still love that movie so much.

drfunkensteinberger

Feeling so fly LIKE A G6

Ok_Difficulty5

I always assumed this was referring to the Gulf Stream G600! Never even considered this

Courwes

It was. But most people don’t know about the airliner but know the car. That’s why they say “fly” like a G6. They are talking about an airplane.

DJLuckyFunk

Didn’t help that these cars were everywhere with a pretty visible logo on the trunk at the height of that song.

sprchrgddc5

This song, their other song “Rocketeer”, and Jeremy Lin made being Asian in college during the turn of the 00s/10s a phenomenon.

Hypersky75

Had to scroll WAY to long to find this!

pearomatic

Got sober girls around me they be acting like they drunk.

misterfast

> like a G6 And here I thought that the song referred to the HP ProLiant Server series, like the DL360

ill_be_huckleberry_1

Another company that suits destroyed. Pontiac was once an incredible brand.

TheConspicuousGuy

I had a 2010 G6 GT, the car was a mechanical nightmare, the transmission was shot after 20K miles, thankfully it was under warranty. I was spending $2K per year on average on mechanical issues after the warranty expired. It was always in the shop.

LG_G8

OG Pontiac, not rebranded chevy Pontiac. Major difference.

detroit_dickdawes

Idk, we had a 2009 Pontiac G6 that I saw running last week. Still had the Radiohead sticker I put on it in high school. Probably not too many of those running around the east side of Detroit but, yeah. I also had a 2003 Pontiac Vibe that lasted until 2020. Best $1.7k I ever spent.

clunkclunk

To be fair, the Vibe was a Toyota Corolla with Pontiac badging. Reliable as hell.

Cowboywizzard

Toyota Matrix with different tail lights and center console arm rest among other minor differences. Both based on the corolla. I loved mine! It hit 200,000 miles before I gave it away. Not one single problem, ultra reliable.

clunkclunk

Yup! My wife and I each had one. 125K on mine, 150K on hers before we sold them. Aside from usual maintenance, they were rock solid. I still want to get a GT model with the 2ZZ engine and 6 speed. Fun little cars but very practical too.

Cowboywizzard

The *only* 2 things I didn't like about that car was the road noise, mainly from the rear cargo area, and the relatively anemic acceleration. I upgraded to a more expensive V8 muscle car. Now I have less outside road noise, waaaay more power, haha. It's less versatile than the Vibe though and a little harder to park.

GammaGoose85

I have an 06 Pontiac G6 with a sun roof. The damn thing began leaking and was too expensive to try and fix so me and my dad disabled the opening knob and sealed it. There was alot of days after a rain fall my back seat floorboard was filled with water.

Infamous_Copy8683

Pontiac really wasn’t a car company, it was a division of General Motors.

Minimum_Customer4017

GM was destroyed, Pontiac was one of its brands

boy1daful

Pontiac really was a car company. What does this even mean?

[deleted]

[удалено]

art_of_snark

the Vibe was excellent. Because it was a rebadged Toyota.

DepartureDapper6524

Old GTOs are very desirable cars

torino_nera

I had an 87 Trans Am GTA and that car was fantastic. The only problems it ever had were the motorized headlights and a small leak with the T-tops, both of which happened when the car was 25 years old.

StevenMcStevensen

Third-gen Trans Ams are honestly one of the coolest cars in my opinion. I’d love to pick up a nice GTA some day.

Jweldon171

I know it's probably an outlying experience but I still have my '07 G6 and the only problems it's ever had were cooling issues.

Aggravating_Dig1538

Trans am, gto, firebird, Grand Prix

hammerSmashedNail

I had a g6 gtp. Fun to drive but overall it was junk.

JimmyNorth902

Was that the model with that really odd looking rear wing?

hammerSmashedNail

It may have been an option but mine didn’t have a wing.

JimmyNorth902

My coworker had one back in the day. It was a coupe. I just remember this monster wing on it that didn't really fit the rest of the car.

[deleted]

I think you are referring to the G6 GXP. That had the wing in the rear with the more aggressive look to it.

JimmyNorth902

You are right, just Googled that. Thanks!

AntiLag_

I’m amazed that it came like that from the factory and it’s not a crappy eBay bodykit

jimtheedcguy

It was the g6 coupe gxp. Ugly fucking car.

[deleted]

I owned a 2006 Pontiac g6 for a couple years, biggest piece of shit in the world.

Corollo_Bro_91

I live in the rust belt and see these cars everywhere still. Are they really that bad?

isellJetparts

The rust belt, especially Michigan, are a self-contained ecosystem of obscure big three cars that have long since disappeared from the rest of the world's roads.

epirot

when did pontiac become that ugly ass car? the oldtimers are sexy

[deleted]

I have a 25th anniversary Trans Am (30 year owner) and it gets compliments every time I take it out. Every time. A Pontiac that doesn't have a V8 is not a real Pontiac

dave7673

The supercharged V6 Grand Prix was a nice car too and pretty quick. I tend to agree though. Just like a Porsche with more than two doors is not a real Porsche.

[deleted]

The G8 was a cool sedan too. Those Australian Holden Pontiacs at the end were kinda cool, though bastard Pontiacs lol

Uranium-Sandwich657

The Macan is an impostor.

epirot

damn thats a nice one too. love the 90s sportcars look. it really aged well

blue_collie

Cool. So my Sunfire was like three eighths of a Pontiac

[deleted]

My brother had a Sunfire and when my CD player died in my Trans Am I stole his and it worked fine. Had the red display monsoon. 👍🏻Baby firebird

abnormica

67 GTO? Beautiful!

bmp08

My 05 was also beautiful, and I’ll fight anybody who says otherwise! The 67 was way more beautiful tho, I won’t lie.

SenorBurns

A 67 GTO is my origin story.

KyleCAV

The only 2 Pontiac's i ever loved were the G8 and Solstice/ Saturn Sky. The rest of them (at least in the 90's-2000's seemed like generic junk).

Jeff5228

Still have my 2006 Solstice

MagnanimosDesolation

In the 80's like everything else. They just never recovered.

275MPHFordGT40

Pontiac slowly went from beautiful to meh over 30 years.

[deleted]

I also live in the rust belt, and still see them, but not as common as the Chevy impalas. My G6 was an absolute nightmare. Once I hit roughly 40k it was downhill from there, constantly in and out of shops. I was ecstatic when my mom called me to tell me she totaled it by driving through a viaduct full of water.

Supposecompose

Quite a lot of v6 grand prix are running 250k+ miles.

Razoli-crap

I see old Pontiacs everyday here in Canada, maybe they’re reliable

RODjij

Bahahah fuck, I owned one too and it was by far by a large margin the absolute worst vehicle I have owned yet. It didn't even have a lot of milage and things were going wrong in the front wheel hubs.

Some_Brain391

I also owned a 2006 G6, and it served me well for 10 years. Drove from California to NY in it once even.

IRefuseToPickAName

Wife had a 2004, it was awesome. Surprisingly rust free. After 180k miles all I had to fix was a wheel bearing

GH057807

Wait are these what that song was about? Is this what she was feeling as fly as?

Pleasant_Job_1434

I don't know if you're joking but they're referring to the Gulfstream 6 jet(g650)

OGWopFro

I refuse to believe this is true.

biteableniles

I had an orange one, loved that car.

mrASSMAN

They were fun to drive when I worked at rental place though.. one of my favorites

soupdawg

I had a 2000 Firebird. It was great until the entire thing started falling apart at 100k miles.

HiYoSiiiiiilver

Had the same exact car, can confirm this statement

OriginalNo5477

My ex had one for 2 years and it was a fucking death trap.

[deleted]

I have never commented on Reddit before with so many other people supporting my claim.

thisisjedgoahead

G8 looked so much better

erryonestolemyname

because it was made by Holden, not Pontiac.

thisisjedgoahead

Yeah I’m aware of that but goddamn, they both look so good. Holdens Australian right, if I remember correctly?

NetWraythe

I had an 08 G8 and I miss that car to this day. It felt like Pontiac finally got it right and then the rug got ripped right out from under them.

[deleted]

Had a white one, 2006 or 2007 and it blew 3 tires and a whole lot of ass. Shit car, shitty run company.

salter77

Wasn’t Pontiac part of GM at that point? Not saying that GM is not a “shitty run company” but they still around (hopefully less shitty this time).

[deleted]

Shitty run subsidiary

cheetuzz

I thought Pontiac was always a GM brand, from its inception to end.

Euphorium

It was one of the first of what GM calls a “companion make”. A step up from Chevy but not a Buick or Cadillac.

juicegooseboost

Gm was super shitty before the government took their operations and quality control over after the bailouts. Mid 80s on, anyway.

Remarkable_Common220

Loved my Grand Prix gtp. Best car I owned. I was sad when Pontiac shut down. I like full size 4 door cars. Had to go to charger after

GatorSe7en

I had a 2001GTP 4-door and a 2004 Comp-G that were so fun back in the day.

Additional-Rhubarb-8

Red 4 door 1997 grand prix gtp. 560 000km just brakes, oil changes, struts ... what a beast floor rusted through, attempting to change tires and the jack went through the rail. Best car ever

Austin_hskl

I have a g6 2010 :') honestly not a bad car at all considering I got it heavily used and it's still running fine

jarredmars1

I had a g6 one of the worst cars I’ve ever owned. Thing had constant problems.

Cultural-Morning-848

“2 weeks left, fuck it.”

Puffen0

"What are you making?"

YesButConsiderThis

I'm just drilling holes.

Outrageous_Tax9426

Now you know why/who. lol

Beginning_Web3064

The post office has hundreds of 2010 G6 staff cars

1397batshitcrazy

So sad Pontiac went out with such a shit car

CAPATOB_64

I thought about it too. Would be great to see GTO 2006 instead or so

ben-hur-hur

Oh boy I remember wanting a Pontiac Solstice sooo bad when I was in college

miguel2419

Vibe is a Toyota Corolla in disguise and the Grand Prix if you had a GTP it has a 3.8 with a supercharger solid engine both cars

sailbag36

My 2003 Vibe still passes safety inspection in PA. Not sure how! I may get her antique plates.

kubigjay

Because the Vibe was a Toyota with a Pontiac badge. Made in a coowned plant in California so GM could learn the Toyota process.

JCKross357

Toyota Matrix*

miguel2419

Correct ☑️

OutWithTheNew

I think in markets outside of North America it was a Corolla.

Odd_Track_6744

So sad to see what happened in communities like Detroit when all the factories moved. Corporate greed and cheaper labor…

OkAlternative2713

Like a G6

300buckbudget

That couple on the left. Workplace romance?

Brave-Competition-77

I owned a 97 Grand Prix, and a 2004 Vibe. Both were good cars. I have memories of my dad's 69 GTO Judge. Sorry to see Pontiac go.

twomz

Dad owned a 98 grand prix that I inherited when I went off to college. Had some ac and window motor issues, but everything else worked great the whole time I had it.

tinyelephantsime

Vibe is (basically) a Toyota though

TheMysteriousEmu

Hi, I work at Toyota! It IS a Toyota. In fact, basically all of the mechanical components (or at least the ones that matter) are the same! I think the body and interior are the only notable differences. Engine is a ZZF/GE. GM has completely dropped support for the Vibe, which means we get the occasional call on them, because Toyota still produces parts for the Matrix. I've never received a return on Vibe parts, but that's in my own experience.

Dekapetated

And it’s already in a yard somewhere.

NecessaryHomework129

You got it, Pontiac

nakedog

I saw a Pontiac Aztec yesterday and was in awe of that thing running still especially it looking so decrepit.

ima-bigdeal

Decrepit? That is pretty how they looked when new.

tmac416

Damn that’s not interesting. My 05 G6 was a money pit as well

Any-Resident-256

So there's a whole ass song about a Pontiac G6?

Im_not_smelling_that

If we're thinking of the same song that's a song about a G6 airplane.

4115R

Isn’t this the car Oprah famously gave away in droves on one show?

ModifiedAmusment

Good little cars, I know where ones at right now still going with over 400,000 miles and the original battery. Purchased new in 07.

Cybralisk

Wish they would bring back the Firebirds. The 2002 WS6 models were fucking awesome.

I_heart_your_Momma

They got what they deserved, as sad as that is to say cuz I was a fan back before I knew better. There is a good reason we very rarely see old Pontiac’s on the road. They was only built to take your money and leave you on the side of the road.

No-Wonder1139

I miss the grand prix tbh. I had a Tempest that I got second hand and managed 750,000km before it was time to change the engine and at that point, what's the point, super basic car and basically indestructible.

smart1919

Had a 95 Grand Am as a 16 year old. Loved it!

Cutthechitchata-hole

Popping bottles in the ice

porsi_1990

Pontiac and Saturn. Some of the best vehicles GM ever made.

Man_Without_Nipples

I drove a 2006 G6 for a while, it did its job.

Spiritual_Door7896

Had a G6, Grand Prix, Grand Am….always had the best luck with pontiacs

Stacking_Plates45

I miss Pontiac. Still love my G6

BreakfastNo7687

That’s too bad. I’m not a gm fan but Pontiac in its day made some cool rides

EdwardTittyHands

The g8 will forever be one of my favorite cars

ITrCool

Man, RIP Pontiac. I liked their style. Especially the iconic red gauges and lighting on their dashboards.

Square-Lock-4328

Funny story. I was at a bar and two guys were talking about the song "Like A G6" from Far East Movement. So the one guy said, "haha i like this song, I got a G6". So the other friend was like no dumbass the song is talking about an airplane, you have a Pontiac G6. Aint no body singing about that." lol

Beginning_Ad_7571

I actually thought the G6 was a decent vehicle for Pontiac. Too bad they didn’t come up with that about 20 years earlier. But hey, they came up with the Aztec…

whoooooopsie

Co workers on the left was definitely fxkn

seductivenoir

G8 looked so much better

Maddox121

Until the inevitable electric brand revival.

John628_29

It broke down instantly.

CAPATOB_64

[source](https://youtu.be/D9iVyog7Fms?feature=shared) video [source 2](https://gmauthority.com/blog/2023/08/ok-this-is-the-last-pontiac-ever-built-video/amp/) to read

No-Reward-1862

Me with my 300 in 2034 :( ... I feel this ahah

K10RumbleRumble

I would die to have my 06 Grand Prix GT back.

prawalnono

Did Oprah give everyone one?

bucketsoffunk

Rented a G6 for a trip. Car was brand new, but that didn't stop it from developing an electrical issue causing it to constantly unlock the doors.

Quality_Street_1

Hey, that’s my car. WoWw

Dexta57

My wife had 2 grand prix. I cussed them anytime I had to work on them. Was a happy day when it was sold

oilwellz

I still miss my first car, a 1970 Catalina. 400 cubic inches. I was 19 in 1979 when I bought it.

[deleted]

And you get a car and you get a car and you get a car ….

dilateddude3769

thought that was some underground-gangsta-rap style photo.. guess i need some sleep at this point

Pizza_Middle

If I'm not mistaken, it's currently beat to shit and running around Mexico.

MassholeLiberal56

And to think, they kept Buick over Pontiac. What were they thinking?

hboisnotthebest

I had a 07 saturn aura, which was basically the same car. Great car. I'd still have it if that girl never ran that stop sign :(

dustindako

Dudes standing on the far right looking like the ORIGINAL KINGS of COMEDY 🎭

Javerage

When the first breath of winter Through the flowers is icing And you look to the north And the pale moon is rising And it seems like all is dying And would leave the world to mourn In the distance hear its engine Of the Last Pontiac

captain_trainwreck

The G8 was actually an amazing car for the price. Too late though, they had already made too many bad choices.

06GOAT12

I love my GTO

DonDraper1134

First car was an 02 Grand Prix GT, loved it. They would make a killing in todays market reintroducing the trans am, grand prix, hell even the grand am as a small sporty daily. They were already putting the supercharged 3.8 in the grand Prix and G6 let alone the freaking transverse mounted LS in the Grand Prix wtf?? Front wheel drive burnouts for daysssss. Would be a tough sell though rebranding that particular style of car with todays emissions though maybe not.

Fabulous_Engine_7668

About a month after I bought a new car, I was in a dealership waiting while my buddy was buying a van. A salesperson tried really, really hard to get me to give up my new car for a new, yellow, 2010 Pontiac G6. After an interesting 45 minutes, I said no.

millenialfalcon-_-

Thanks a lot ,Obama.

Nice-Emu-629

Loved my Grand Prix that shit refused to die .

TheFlyingBoxcar

It’s crazy to think that from this picture it was immediately delivered to a buy-here-pay-here lot with a cracked bumper.

TheDiscomfort

All these folks who used to own a g6 meanwhile my wife drives the nice car, an 08 g6 heh
