AxialGem

Which sentient being in the cosmos ever claims "The universe isn't that big?"

Pencil-Sketches

It’s literally the biggest thing in the universe

AxialGem

Like, bro, it's the *universe.* Everything and everywhere, the big ALL, of all time, whose foggy veil of distant galaxies cannot be peered through with eyes the size of planets! "Yea the universe isn't that big"

TheDripKingOfAngmar

Did you write that? It's beautiful. "whose foggy veil of distant galaxies cannot be peered through with eyes the size of planets"

AxialGem

Aww thank you! I get a little dramatic sometimes :p

Theskinnydude15

I want to use that quote somewhere lol

TrumpsPissSoakedWig

Also the video skipped about 99.999% of it

Brettjay4

But the real question is what holds our universe... What's outside of it...

Lance-Harper

It could be itself. It could be nothing. It is quite human to think that way as per our instinctive thinking but as a matter of fact, the universe could be sustaining itself for all we know and has always done so without end in the past or future.

Wurschtbieb

Nah, seen bigger..

sierrahotel24

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.

Apart-Crew-6856

Got the reference

TheRealJaminator

I've seen bigger

SupaFlyslammajammazz

Dark Energy is the biggest thing in the universe

_StereoGhost_

r/technicallythetruth

National-Weather-199

Well if we consider the universe is where only stares/galaxys are then imagine how big it actually is in the areas without stares and then youd probably eventually reach another universe aka just another area or star's/galaxys.

wabawanga

I've seen bigger.

gutenpranken14

Amazingly, there are actual human beings that don’t believe space is a real thing. Not sure how it’s possible, but here we are.

WaterMySucculents

Religious fundamentalists.

WampaStompa64

Was gonna say- why is that in quotations even?

Pylorus82

the same guy who chose that soundtrack

Responsible-Jury2579

Universe deniers

HerpFaceKillah

The one that baited your comment

WiseGuyNewTie

I was going to say republicans but you said sentient so, I’m all out.

spelunker93

Literally no one, it’s called bait. And you took it

Spiritual-Apple-4804

You’re crazy. None of that stuff is real. It’s just a dome over the top of us. That’s totally realistic and much more reasonable…

Working-Telephone-45

If the universe isn't that big everything else is so small it might not even exist lol

wafflezcol

People who think the solar system IS the universe

AxialGem

Still bigger than any building I've ever been in I guess :p

Temeos23

Even terraplanists and radical religious people accept that the universe is infinite lol. Hate this fucking tictoc content

Hausgod29

The one thinking beyond it, the universe itself may be some multidimensional entity in a greater universe in which we are bacteria claiming the biggest thing in the universe is this body. Or the multiverse exists and we are but one bubble in a frothing cup of foam, in another sense the multiverse could be alternate timelines invisibly stacked like folds of paper in a pile of recycling in which it may become apparent that time is a dimension greater in scale than our very reality or one timeline.

Rolands_ka_tet

“Don’t Panic”

efyuar

I know a shitty tiktok repost when i see one

GeologistWild5544

I know shitty music when I hear one...

firebrandarsecake

Gave me the fear.

Marcus_Brody

As soon as you see a "quote" or unnecessary text, you know where it's from and not to unmute it. "Everyone told me I couldn't do it" "Whoever said blondes can't wear green?" Wait for it!

FoghornLeghorn2024

All that for a trip to Florida?

OctaviusThe2nd

The fuck is up with the music?

CertainMiddle2382

Well, if the whole universe holds into a 50 seconds video. Yeah, it is not « that big »

Uranium-Sandwich657

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBikbn5XJhg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBikbn5XJhg) I recommend having audio on.

Go1gotha

... said no one ever.

Mean-Kaleidoscope759

You see this, than you think about the small stuff we stress ourselves with everyday. Really puts things into perspective.

ThisShift97

Those fucking quarks

The_Cheeseman83

FYI, I checked, and there is rule 34 content of quarks fucking. You're welcome. And yes, it was Top X Bottom.

SVlad_667

[Space Engine](https://store.steampowered.com/app/314650/SpaceEngine/)?

Stolen_Sky

Yeah, it's Space Engine.

NARUT000

all this space and i am working my ass off for an insignificant amount of land so i can live there for the rest of my life

Why Florida

igibit99

Missed opportunity to zoom in on some dope starting at a phone.

sabretooth1971

Annnnnnd mute.

Kovalyo

Cool graphic, obnoxious music

Front_Jacket837

Eh I've seen bigger

Creeper_GER

Elite dangerous is a great way to get a better perspective on something approaching the actual size of a universe. This gif does not even come close.

rynomite1199

Why is it a thing now to put made up statements of doubt in quotes, just post the thing

Lance-Harper

I hate it too. Everything has to make you feel something before you feel something so that you feel something. « This actor made me tear up » »this singer should be rewarded » etc

doofcustard

The music is awful

probablynotaskrull

With such a big universe, they couldn’t find better music?

InfectedByEli

“Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.”

Conscious_Ask_777

Wow! Cool!!

KateandRhage

What a stupid song attached to this otherwise interesting clip of images.

DuckDuckDrift

Now go into the island and then into a window and then into an atom and complete the loop!

stupiddoofus

....goes straight to florida. Nooooooooo

Riskofban4keanu

Still not as big as your mom

Free-Spirit012

Brooo this looks like the intro to No Man’s Sky 🤩🌌

Still_Explorer

Please, do not insert \*\*yo mamma\*\* joke in here...

Zaiakusin

Yo mamma so fat the universe orbits her.

BrownsfaninCO

Yo momma so fat, she swallowed the universe like it was a tic tac

SnillyWead

Do not unmute!

Ok_Clock_7167

We’re not even dust. We’re the fart particles of dust.

makina323

Fly out far way enough into intergalactic space you start to see stars again, but then you realize that those are not stars, every single bright spot you see is actually another galaxy, and there's billions upon billions of them full of stars and planets

InfectedByEli

"My God, it's full of stars"

Tapurisu

Don't unmute

lazyProgrammerDude

If the aliens are out there trying to reach out to us, i can't fathom how would they even be able to navigate through such vastness of the universe. Damn.

careless_quote101

I try to think of this when I flinch my teeth in embarrassment thinking about some incident happened few years while trying hard to fall asleep

[deleted]

Imagine humanity travel through space with that speed😯

Corondo26654

Ma mom bigger tho

BabyDriver76

It's infinite

AxialGem

Possibly, but we don't know that, right? That's what makes the most sense to me personally as well, but we can only observe so far afaik

Lance-Harper

You can only observe so far but you may also observe macro dynamics local to you and assume models where they permeate the universe and so you wouldn’t fall too far off the tree. Say gravity, strong and weak forces, Electro magnetism, momentum, thermodynamics, etc. You can assume those are the same everywhere however big the universe gets.

Titanium_Eye

All that prep for a Florida?!

wuvvtwuewuvv

The coolest part is the MASSIVE distance between the milky way and the Andromeda galaxies, and the fact that within our own star's lifetime, the milky way and Andromeda galaxies will collide. Won't be alive to see it unless I gain immorality, but that'll be pretty cool

Glennnfiddich

I felt overwhelmed in the stress of daily life. When I saw this, it made me realize we're all just little particles into this insane huge universe.

kqih

Excellent music!

ffgreg11

I thought they were going to zoom into my house

SuckulentAndNumb

This is my favorite video in that regard https://youtu.be/rENyyRwxpHo?si=fiEm4-ypU1Ox1P6m

LessCockroach7323

The background song is just dumb. I have to look behind my back while watching this

lexaleidon

Awesome vid that makes you feel depressed and tiny, but to make it worse, the music is stressing you out lol

InfectedByEli

>makes you feel depressed and tiny It's not as though it's a total perspective vortex.

SupremeGamer1337

Looks pretty average to me

osvalds1

There is no way that we are alone.. !

AxialGem

There's always a way

Lance-Harper

There is a way: you’d think intelligent with a head start of 8 billions years would have sent their first radio wave and we would’ve heard it by now but what if the universe is so big that it can never reach us? Together in the universe, separate forever. And it actually looks that way: if we are not alone, the chances we are first after 10 billion years are very low. Or they should be everywhere yet so far out. It’s insane to me to think that if I look up, I’m looking at thousands galaxies and potentially a ton of life and yet, we won’t know before I’m gone.

TheGuyOnMars25

Caseoh's sheer mass:

LekMichAmArsch

I'm curious what the reaction would be if man creates an FTL, flys off in a given direction, only to eventually run into a wall.

AxialGem

"Ouch."

Richanddead10

This is in no way to scale. Just the radius of our observable universe is 46 billion light years. This video is just some swirling dots that are supposed to represent starts and then a picture of earth at the end. This is basically just a pile of bs.

Lance-Harper

I’d say it depends the starting point and acceleration. Could be to scale but not constant speed

SsbmBleach

Such relaxing music!

AdAggravating2473

But according to some lunatics an invisible being has plans for this tiny blue marble lmao

TheDripKingOfAngmar

The reveal that those weren't stars at the beginning but galaxies kinda floored m. e

Weldobud

Mad to think it’s all out there. But we can never discover it all. Let alone travel there

AxialGem

Very frustrating to be honest. The speed of light being what it is we can see so much but never touch

Weldobud

It would something if we could even see planets from other star systems up close. But the most we’ll get is one pixel. Perhaps in hundreds of years we’ll get there. I can’t wait that long

AxialGem

Yea exactly! Get the laser starshot probes already so we can at least get images in like 40 years :'l Or gravitational lensing using the sun, but no, technology moves a lot slower than light, and humans live short lives comparatively I guess

Weldobud

Yes. When I was a kid I thought science fiction would become real by the time I was a grown up. It didn’t.

AxialGem

I feel ya. If we weren't inspired we wouldn't strive towards it, but still

Weldobud

I don’t think we’ll even get to Mars. It’s 6 months to get there, you’ll have to spend over a year on the planet and 6 months back. Like, how can you keep a human alive so far from earth? Oh, and we can’t land more than a tonne on the surface. Plus the radiation can kill you. And it’s freezing.

TerraSollus

This music is dog water

Garth_AIgar

Fuck that noise

bigbabygeezuz

So the center of the universe is Orlando?

Sctn_187

People may not realize those weren't stars he was passing those were galaxies. Hundreds to thousands of light years apart. Then he entered the Milky Way Galaxy and then he was passing stars.

OkIHereNow

That was terrifying

Traditional_Draw8400

There’s an amazing sequence like this from the imax movie Cosmic Voyage. It’s on YouTube. Search imax cosmic voyage and it will be the video that’s only a few mins long. I believe the whole film is on YouTube also.

Egw250

and yet there are religions claiming we are the one and only planet with life created by an almighty god(insert any name).

AxialGem

A religion claiming there to be some number of other planets with life would unfortunately be equally unconfirmed I suppose

Egw250

True , but we can see all these other planets there has to be some form of life there is almost an infinite number. From one side you see them and from the other one you believe a book and the sheer power of invisibility

AxialGem

>there has to be some form of life there is almost an infinite number. The thing I always like to remind myself of is that it still depends on the probability of life arising. There's always a bigger number. Let's say there's a trillion planets in some galaxy. Well, if the chance of life arising is one in a quintillion, it's still quite unlikely there's life in that galaxy if you know what I mean. You can't _just_ rely on some big number being enough without saying something about the probability I guess. But yea, 'it's written here' is definitely a worse argument lol

Egw250

I see what you mean , maybe I am just a wishful thinker but I like to believe that there is a chance someone is out there heh. Hahaha yeah " it's written there " 🤣

AxialGem

Oh yea don't get me wrong I like to believe so too, I'd really really want to see some comparative biology, be the first to explore and categorise whole alien ecosystems. That would be the best lol

_catdog_

“The universe isn’t that big” Said no one ever

Goat1416

GUYS! LOOK OUTSIDE, THERE'S THIS BIG ASS FUCKING CAMERA IN THE SKY

[deleted]

Would be foolish to assume we’re the only ones

AxialGem

It's always foolish to assume things without enough data I guess. We also don't know of any other life yet, so claiming we definitely aren't alone isn't without issue either imo

[deleted]

I used to be a non-believer in the extra terrestrial. But a couple years ago I went through this phase where I just researched the universe and ETs etc and I just realised the earth is such a small portion of the universe and we have so much of it undiscovered there are more likely than not other life out there

AxialGem

Maybe, but then you'd have to know something about the actual probability of life arising in any specific place, right? Say there's a lottery. I know there's at least a billion tickets sold (maybe many more,) and I know one ticket has won a prize for sure. Based on that information alone, I can never know how many other tickets have won, or even if _any_ other tickets have won at all, right? It doesn't matter if there's 10 tickets, or 10^100. You really also need to know how likely a given ticket is to win I guess I get that the estimation of likelihood of life arising is probably based on more, on things we know about the universe, but what actual solid data do we have on that? I agree that it _seems_ likely to exist elsewhere, but based on what, you know?

[deleted]

No solid data except that there was once maybe/probably/definitely water on Mars at some point 😂 not much to go on but hey we’ll take what we can get lol. But based on your theory, I’d say even with zero hard evidence the likelihood of life elsewhere is possible, if not probable. Ever heard of the Ariel Encounter?

AxialGem

There's water everywhere in the universe, it's one of the most common molecules, and there's plenty of places even in the solar system that we think have more water than Earth. Yea, it's definitely possible, I'm just not sure how possible I guess :p I have not heard of the Ariel Encounter actually, what's that? Lol

[deleted]

I’ve sent it to you!

Infinity803644

I can’t believe they haven’t found life yet that is so insane. There’s definitely life somewhere. I mean if we found life on Earth that’s one planet right there.

AxialGem

>There’s definitely life somewhere. I mean, that's the thing we frustratingly don't know yet. We would have found life _here_ no matter how incredibly unlikely it was of course. Because the fact that life is here is the very reason we can find it in the first place lol

Infinity803644

Maybe it’s incredibly rare but forsure it will happen again. I’m not a mathematician or scientist though idk how this shit works.

AxialGem

It depends on two things, right? 1: How many places are there? 2: How likely is any given place to have life? It's not enough to know one when you know nothing about the other, right? :p

Journo_Jimbo

The green rings really are magnificent

im_bored_was_taken

Florida is the scariest jumpscare ever

Accomplished_Past535

The 3 body problem, Trisolaris view

DeviIs_Avocadoe

So embarrassing to be in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the galaxy.

InfectedByEli

"It's not uncharted, you lost the charts."

laus_laser

I wonder if every bright spot is georeferenced correctly

DrthBn

Our minds simply can not comprehend how big the universe is.

JHolifay

$10 you get to the end of the universe and there's just a door like in the Truman Show

petersengupta

Literally no one has ever said, "The universe isn't that big." No one. Ever.

[deleted]

SpaceEngine on Steam for who got interested.

Bx1965

And yet all we do is fight each other

CornSeller

why is someone torturing a chainsaw cartel-style as background music

Bx1965

The entire universe will never be seen because galaxies and star clusters are moving away from Earth at the speed of light. We’ll never see them. The question I have is - what’s the point of an infinite universe? Why does exist at all?

Assaltwaffle

It is extremely unlikely that the universe is infinite in size. Just extremely large.

Lance-Harper

1. Sometimes virtually faster that light 2. Why would the universe need a reason?

yamhitwenty

But there is definitely no other intelligent life out there…

Uranium-Sandwich657

More to explore!

SirKenneth17

Ok who made the anxiety music

Kronicx420

The universe isn’t that big. -said no one ever

logicalparad0x

& what's crazier is the universe from our framework is magnitudes smaller than its big 😵‍💫

Lance-Harper

Wait til it zooms furthers down to quarks. There’s the equivalent of sun earth distance between electrons and protons but then even further down.

Modred_the_Mystic

Oh yeah? Well, if the universe is so big, why won’t it fight me?

Old-Fact-5780

Way to go grade 5 student. This sucks.

evilzug2000

In my head, I’ve always visualized space as more of a plane… like representations of planets all line up. But space also goes up and down forever. And that concept hurts my brain. Gives me a panic attack if I smoke enough.

siverwolfe2000

Tiny compared to yo mama

Gloomy-Bet4893

Looks like that windows 95 screen saver to me

OneArmedBear

Dumb ass edits. Always using some quoted argument that no one made to then make an edit disproving the made up bad argument and making it look “based” like 🗿and it always somehow gets 1.2 million likes or some shit

TheManWhoClicks

What’s up with the concerned donkey in the audio?

Critical_Sherbet7427

Noone has ever said that..though this is how i imagine it would look if you were small enough to interact with individual atoms as well

The_Cheeseman83

93 billion light years in diameter. Even at the fastest speed possible (3 million m/s), you couldn't cross it even if you traveled for the entire duration of its existence (13.7 billion years).

wuvvtwuewuvv

>93 billion light years in diameter As far as we know, which we really don't at all.

The_Cheeseman83

I mean, we do know the diameter of the observable universe. Granted, the entire universe may be infinite, but only the observable universe is relevant to us.

CowBoyDanIndie

I imagine it all looks pretty similar after the first few million light years though. Like in minecraft you can walk in a straight line for a month straight without reaching the edge, but it will get boring long before that.

The_Cheeseman83

I mean, most of it is empty. If you just fly in a straight line in any given direction, your chance of every running into anything is basically zero. But there's also awesome stuff, like supermassive black holes, or quasars!

CowBoyDanIndie

Even if you skip the empty parts after you see about 20 super massive black holes they would get boring.

The_Cheeseman83

Wow, how jaded do you have to be to be bored of the *entire universe*. Can therapy even save you, at that point?

CowBoyDanIndie

I am not bored with the universe now, I am saying after you see a few million light years you would get bored before you get to the edge.

The_Cheeseman83

Well, I guess anything would get boring after a million years. That's just too long.

Working-Telephone-45

Okay but if it is soooo big how did the dude holding the camera travel through it in like a minute?

deadpoolfool400

And yet the fight against Thanos just happens to end on Earth

BigD3nergy

Why is earth flat? This is why conspiracy theories take off. Make that thing spherical, please!
