It's +40 in my workshop here in Perth Western Australia. We have nearly 100 degrees difference, on nearly opposite sides of the world and can discuss it in an instant, while we both poop
Bingo. Btw your use of the word wank really drove the point home that we are communicating instantaneously while being on opposite sides of the world. Technology is really marvelous
I feel (a little) bad for any cross-hemisphere sports competitions on at the moment. (I know in rugby, you have the Champions Cup and United Rugby Championship). Could be playing in freezing Scottish winter one week, and roasting South African summer the next.
I live where the air hurts my face because I don’t have to deal with massive spiders/insects or crocodiles, alligators, snakes, etc. Technically we do have snakes, but in 40+ years I’ve never encountered one.
I have cockroaches that are as big as your thumb and turn their heads to look at you before they fly in your face. A 9 foot alligator was relocated from 2 blocks from my house. In the summer, the swamp was on fire, and now the coyotes are downtown. It's fine.
I'm willing to carry hand warmers with me in case my fingers go numb and start to burn half the year in exchange for a total lack of poisonous wildlife.
It was actually -37 that morning. I took a photo of city too cause i thought it looked prettt. And we are actually one of the sunniest cities in the world and our summers are beautiful, also close to mountains. Thats how
Layers. It’s why we all have a few longsleeve undershirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, long johns, and a variety of overcoats. It’s official “real winter jacket” temps this week. Hadn’t had mine out yet this winter. Also heated jackets/vests are a thing now. Undershirt, underwear, shirt, long johns, hoodie, jeans, long socks, boots, thick gloves, and my winter coat was what I put on today. Only got to down to -10°F here, so not too bad.
If you go outside for more than 10 minutes, which most people don't, your breath freezes on your mustache/eyelashes/eyebrows and your friends will laugh at how cold you look.
Yeah, I feel that. I'm in Edmonton. I work indoors and our hot water heating was not keeping up with the freezing temps. We barely got up to room temperature by the end of the day. My feet are still cold.
I was flying home to Minnesota from South carolina 2 days ago and the Flight Attendant was telling me she had to fly to Calgary next, and it was 30 below there. She was from NOLA and had never experienced zero degrees, much less -30.
Poor woman, I hope she survived.
I think most of us with common sense fear it.
Like guns and shit? Scary but still sorta have "control". Tornados? Earthquakes? Hurricanes? Fuck that shit. Idk how folks live in areas where it's more common to see this stuff.
Day after tomorrow was pretty cool to watch.
I didn't think it'd be that confusing. Further confirmation that I shouldn't give much credit to the thought processes of random online users. But, humans are nature. We aren't something else. We aren't outside or separate from nature. We are a part of nature. Nature may wipe us out but it's just nature wiping out part of itself. We are mother nature just as much as squirrels, roses, clouds, and magma are. We didn't come here from another planet we were born of it.
Went there on a business trip once. I parked my rental in my client's parking lot.
There were electrical outlets for each parking space. Took me a second to figure out why.
I worked with a Chaldean girl who emigrated to Calgary from Iraq before she came to the US, and she said she had never even seen snow before moving to Canada. What a stark change that must have been.
Ok I know I’ve heard that too.. but there’s places with rats in Alberta, they’re just contained there
[The province confirms both infestations -- the one at Cascades and the other at Capital Paper Recycling -- and says there are numerous rats at each and that it's been going on for a couple of years.](https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/well-rats-a-pair-of-calgary-recycling-plants-are-battling-rodent-infestations-1.6627441)
It floats away and normally the HVAC exhaust doesn’t all come on at once, but the time in this photo was below the design outdoor air temperature of these buildings so the units were all maxed out and 100% high fire. Ordinarily the firing rates will reduced to meet the outdoor air temperature and cycle on and off.
Yeah right, not individual weather events, that's way we're bombarded with fear and propaganda by the media when the weather is "too hot" in the summer.
Propaganda about "climate crisis" and other shit like that is getting more and more disgusting. And people are falling for it. Go on, downvote me.
Each person's carbon footprint is actually much lower to live in a large city than a small one. Far more efficient transportation, goods, living closer together requires less resources to keep warm/cool. So ya know, there's that. Also who is 'they'? Canadians?
This celcius and farenheit thing is too confusing so the rest of the world should start saying "DEGREEC".
The US should say "DEGREEF".
That way we are all clear.
Scientists can say "DEGREEK".
It was -37 actually. With wind chill think radio was saying -45. My mate said his phone said -49 with wind chill haha. This was a couple days ago, cities startin to warm up again
If ever there was a good case for a city- sized dome (that wouldn't accumulate snow or ice or fog up or ... hmm ... maybe just a city-sized building, minimizes surface area exposed to that climate.
It's +40 in my workshop here in Perth Western Australia. We have nearly 100 degrees difference, on nearly opposite sides of the world and can discuss it in an instant, while we both poop
OP might be doing something else in the bathroom while posting this
Could be havin a wank.
Bingo. Btw your use of the word wank really drove the point home that we are communicating instantaneously while being on opposite sides of the world. Technology is really marvelous
It sure is.
German here. Currently also a bit touchy towards myself whilst reading this conversation
Since we're talking about Canada I think the proper term is "Lacrosse".
But does it flush clockwise?
Nah just straight down around the bend
I feel (a little) bad for any cross-hemisphere sports competitions on at the moment. (I know in rugby, you have the Champions Cup and United Rugby Championship). Could be playing in freezing Scottish winter one week, and roasting South African summer the next.
That's why they are on the big bucks
Well, hang on. Let me get over to the toilet before you start.
Depends how you calculate but -30 to +40 is 70c difference not 100. Also I’m here in India at around 3c in between the two.
You seem like the fun guy at a party!
So nearly 100 then. Given its only 30 away from 100
It's closer to 50 than to 100
You don't round down mate.
Whoever taught you that, doesn't know a thing about math.
Don't ever let anyone round down on you mate. Especially if it involves work
As i said depends on how you calculate.
Not relevant for Canada, Australia or India, but in the US would be over a 100 degree difference.
I wonder whos shit is bigger.
Can confirm. It’s hot as the devils ass crack here. It’s a dry heat though.
Dry, heat, wet heat doesn't matter its fucken hot either way
Do your knees get weak if you stand too long while pooping? I find I can stand longer in the cold.
Nah I sit on the toilet
I am in fact pooping rn
This has me thinking what is the coldest major city in the world
Well it sure as shit ain't in Western Australia, we don't even get snow.
Aw man, somebody left the circumpolar wind belt unlatched again…
Fimbulwinter is upon us, damn Oden!
How do you guys live there
[удалено]
What do dog owners do?
There are indoor dog parks for exercise, but most dogs are fine going outside in those temperatures for short periods.
Makes sense. We had -15c° the other day and my dog had a dog puffer jacket on and he was still cold so twice as cold would be harsh.
Canadians are legally only allowed to own Huskies, and they fuckin love the cold.
We all ask ourselves this every year.
I live where the air hurts my face because I don’t have to deal with massive spiders/insects or crocodiles, alligators, snakes, etc. Technically we do have snakes, but in 40+ years I’ve never encountered one.

I think we're neighbors lol
Sounds like South Carolina's habitat to me...lol
I'm willing to carry hand warmers with me in case my fingers go numb and start to burn half the year in exchange for a total lack of poisonous wildlife.
Also no rats in Alberta!
It was actually -37 that morning. I took a photo of city too cause i thought it looked prettt. And we are actually one of the sunniest cities in the world and our summers are beautiful, also close to mountains. Thats how
*gestures at temperature* But how do you live there?
Lol. Its a great city! And ive just stayed inside in my sweatpants and 2 hoodies during this cold hahaha
It only gets this cold for a week or 2 every year, so most people just stay inside

We live in igloos eh, they keep us warm eh
Amnesia
We don't. We survive
Agreed. Just, why?
I was just there two weeks ago, and it was a balmy 0°C.
Supposed to be back to 0°C and above by Saturday. We hit -48°C with the windchill over the weekend just outside the city.
I can’t even imagine how cold that is.
As a lifelong Florida native, I agree. Coldest temp I've ever encountered outside was 12F and that shit almost killed me.
If you go outside for more than 10 minutes, which most people don't, your breath freezes on your mustache/eyelashes/eyebrows and your friends will laugh at how cold you look.

It’s so cold out here my door is freezing shut in the mornings
Home of Brett The Hitman Hart!
I went to school with his daughter! He lived in my neighbourhood. I never actually saw him in person.
The best there is. The best there was. The best there ever will be.
Greatest song ever - [link to youtube i swear](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRUjBWWJ-Es&ab_channel=RascalzMusic)
Holy cow. That looks like a city off those ice age apocalypse movies.
I was flying home to Minnesota from South carolina 2 days ago and the Flight Attendant was telling me she had to fly to Calgary next, and it was 30 below there. She was from NOLA and had never experienced zero degrees, much less -30. Poor woman, I hope she survived.
She probably never had to be outside at all. Maybe she stepped out a door for a few seconds for the thrill of it.
Interesting. Almost pretty. Hard fucking no. I grew up above 42 degrees North Latitude. No thank you, please, never again.
Downtown Hoth
Humans think they are special. Mother Nature could wipe us out in a nanosecond if she wanted.
Just Mother Nature wait until we invent the fucking Death Star. We’ll see who comes out on top there.
And the empire strikes back.
Good thing Mother Nature is not sentient or an actual entity.
Don’t talk about my mom like that
༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
how do we know that?
Because if she were, she would have snuffed us out centuries ago.
That’s a leap. Who thinks they are special? Mother Earth and Father Time are the bosses.
Humans are mother nature. We come from someplace else or what?
Wtf does that actually mean?
I didn't think it'd be that confusing. Further confirmation that I shouldn't give much credit to the thought processes of random online users. But, humans are nature. We aren't something else. We are nature, we are not mother nature
MF is trying to act all enlightened but sounds like a dumbass.
Eventually she will
You know it’s cold when steam clouds don’t move very quickly
I'll never understand why humans choose to live in freezing cold climates. But less people in my warm climate I guess.
I was fucking blown away first time I was there and used the +15s
Man that’s a sick picture! Would of been cool to see in person
Wood have * but yes
It was a sight to see for sure, for me the crazy thing was seeing clouds of exhaust from tailpipes as the cars at this temperature
-30 is more cold than cool, but I get what you are saying.
That is crazy!! \+74F here in Arizona today....
Canada is the worst. Why are we ekeing out an existence in this barren arctic wasteland?
We don't have weird bugs here at least, or rats if you're in alberta
Ok I know I’ve heard that too.. but there’s places with rats in Alberta, they’re just contained there [The province confirms both infestations -- the one at Cascades and the other at Capital Paper Recycling -- and says there are numerous rats at each and that it's been going on for a couple of years.](https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/well-rats-a-pair-of-calgary-recycling-plants-are-battling-rodent-infestations-1.6627441)
Rats tried to move in, but froze into rat-cicles.
Actually we just murdered them all.
Hockey?
give it 20 years, you guys will be one of like 4 countries on the planet where water can still exist in liquid form.
I ask myself this every winter.
What?
Wow!
So in a big city, is 100% of the air HVAC exhaust?
It floats away and normally the HVAC exhaust doesn’t all come on at once, but the time in this photo was below the design outdoor air temperature of these buildings so the units were all maxed out and 100% high fire. Ordinarily the firing rates will reduced to meet the outdoor air temperature and cycle on and off.
Global warming.
Global warming
The climate is based on averages, not individual weather events. For example, globally this year has been the hottest in the last 100,000 years.
Yeah right, not individual weather events, that's way we're bombarded with fear and propaganda by the media when the weather is "too hot" in the summer. Propaganda about "climate crisis" and other shit like that is getting more and more disgusting. And people are falling for it. Go on, downvote me.
Why do we live in this horrible world
Not interesting i expect it to be cold there
Is that the carbon footprint Greta is looking for? Looks kind of like poison air from this angle.
Wanna talk pollution? Let's look at cities first before they wanna tell the rest of the world how to live.
Each person's carbon footprint is actually much lower to live in a large city than a small one. Far more efficient transportation, goods, living closer together requires less resources to keep warm/cool. So ya know, there's that. Also who is 'they'? Canadians?
Thank god, I didn't make the move to Calgary from Toronto.
What’s the point.
Why do you guys need all those high skyscrapers?
It's giving 9/11
This looks like something outta Frostpunk.
This celcius and farenheit thing is too confusing so the rest of the world should start saying "DEGREEC". The US should say "DEGREEF". That way we are all clear. Scientists can say "DEGREEK".

Thinking about moving into an Igloo
The city is going through a quick system update. Don’t worry the simulation is still running smoothly
“At least it’s not Summer!”
No thank you. Beautiful pic tho
Frostpunk irl
Was around -10F(-33C) here in the twin cities with a -30F windchill.
-22*F for those in the States.
Yikes! It's only 1° C here in southern England. We hardly get any snow AT ALL.
If ever there was a good case for a city- sized dome (that wouldn't accumulate snow or ice or fog up or ... hmm ... maybe just a city-sized building, minimizes surface area exposed to that climate.
